Game Recap: Dolphins 31 – Jets 27

Wow, that was brutal.

Forget Braylon Edwards and Mark Sanchez’s impressive first game together and what might be an impressive pairing for years to come.  I generally look at the “Rule of Twenty” in a win or loss.  If the Jets can’t keep a team to under 20, then their defense probably failed, or if the Jets couldn’t get 20 points on offense, their offense probably failed.

What’s maddening is that last week, against a very good Saints team, the Jets defense was for most of the game, lights out.

This week, when it came down to it, the Jets defensive personnel knew that the Dolphins were going to dominate them with the run, and they couldn’t do anything about it.  They got pushed around all night by the Dolphins and when the Dolphins needed a drive, they just went out a did it.  Chad Henne, who was a high rated QB a few years ago when he came out in the draft, had a great game against the Jets and benefitted greatly from the running game that his team had, and the Jets were unable to stop.

The great thing about the Jets defense is that it is built to stop the pass, but that’s only relevant when teams have to … you know … pass.  When the Jets removed Kenyon Coleman from the equation on Draft Day, they got worse against the run and maybe only now am I seeing the difference that his presence meant.  It was something I was concerned about, and although the team can apply pressure and has stopped the run against some lower tier rushing teams, but when they face a team like the Dolphins, they got exposed.

We’ll break this game down more tomorrow.  For now, leave your comments on the loss.

  1. This is why it’s lethal to have hope as a Jet fan.

Rex Ryan was COMPLETELY outcoached, Bart Scott wasn’t mentioned ONCE, Rhodes is sorely overpaid as a “premiere” safety, and the pass rusher is two old dinosaurs who are over the hill.

This is a 9-7 team, despite a soft schedule coming up.

Zero chance they go 2-0 before the re-match with Miami…which they likely lose again to the same Wildcat gimmicky bs.

This one hurts more than any other in the last 2-3 seasons. So much for 3-0, 4-0, or 4-1. Get ready for 6-6.

  2. IF THIS DEFENSE PLAYS LIKE THIS EVEY WEEK….WE’RE GONNA 3-13 THIS YEAR….ABSOLUTELY ATROCIOUS!!!!!!

  3. Brutal loss.
    - Bart Scott missed a couple of big tackles.
    - Edwards was awesome. This will definitely help our run game going forward.
    - Schotty called a very strong game.
    - Special teams executed perfectly.
    - Defense was outright horrendous. It could be due to the hot weather and the fact they were out there on a couple of very long drives.

  4. brutal…..that hurt like hell…..

  5. Utterly disgusting loss…. The only thing I’ll say is, it was about damn time they bombed it down the field to Clowney. I don’t give a sh@t if he can’t run 8 yard crossing routes. Just bomb it deep to him at least twice a game. I have to go throw up now.

  6. I HOPE BART SCOTT LIKES POULTRY….CAUSE THE IN FLIGHT MEAL ON THE FLIGHT HOME..IS CROW!!!!

  7. Even with our terrible defensive play, we could still have won the game if it wasnt for Coleman. This guy can’t play man coverage or really any coverage.
Sheppard and Strickland are really being missed. If they are out for any longer, its time to sign a CB.

  8. I AM TIRED OF BEING A JETS FAN….SOME ELITE DEFENSE WE HAVE…WHAT PRESSURE?

  9. You hit Henne (sack or no sack), you stop Ronnie Brown (who is the better of the two) and you can begin to unravel the Dolphins. We need pass pressure from the DL, not just the LBs.
Secondaries don’t get any more suspect than that. Edwards, Cotchery and Keller should have shredded them.

Wild Cat is gimmick. Miami looks like a college team out of West Virginia or Arkansas. It is essential we bounce back against Buffalo. Make practice hell this week, Ryan.

  10. Wow sure got pushed around, our linebackers got beat up badly. need more out of them. revis got burned by ted ginn, ted ginn! kerry rhodes had his best game of the season but their inability to create sacks or turnovers is a bit surprising considering how much they blitz. add henne to a long list of young qb’s to abuse the jets:
    shaun hill
    JaMarcus
    trent edwards
jp losman (would have beaten us last year if he didn’t get tackled on that bootleg).
    tyler thigpen
    seneca wallce

this felt like a mangini defense today. if not for a lucky pi call and a few fake punts we would have gotten rolled. scary part is this may have been our best offensive game.

  11. Drew Coleman and Lowery had the 2 passes that ended up losing us the game. With Lito and Stricland coming back at atleast SOME point during the season, im confident we’ll be able to bounce back.

  12. When was the last time the Jets got a sack? Blitz way too much.

  13. Speachless……next week can’t come soon enough.

  14. 6 of the 7 in the 3-4 were awful today. Big Jenks was the only one who gave a decent effort. Revis, surprisingly, was terrible out there. We shut down Brees last week and we can’t beat CHAD #$%$#^& HENNE??? The offense was pretty good, moved the ball pretty well, Cotchery and Keller were non-factors however. But the defense tells the story in this one. They were god awful.

  15. I said it before…I feel like we lost to Navy.

We are still on top of the division, the way I see it, if we lose to Buffalo then it is time to panic.

It’s an early loss and we are still in good shape, if nothing else this game provides tons of tape for the defense.

  16. Jets got beat up tonight, plain and simple. Embarrassing effort against gimmick offense. “Elite” D my ass. Back to drawing board for Rex, who should be ashamed.

  17. Well for all you guys giving up on the Jets, you can quit being a fan now and no one will miss you. Yea, it was a tough loss, but get real this isn’t the end of our season.

  18. Jesus — when did Jets fans turn into the football equivalent of Cubs fans? You fly ridiculously high with a win — then get absolutely ludicrous with a mini streak. With a loss, everything is total crap. Youse guys got to get a grip.

  19. Guys, relax…it was a tough game to lose, but it was also a tough game to win. We are still a good team. The phins are obviously much better than their record shows. They should have beaten the colts, and the other games they lost were somewhat close. I know everyone is frustrated, but you really think that because we lost 2 road games, one to the saints who are a great team, and the other a division game against a solid miami team who needed to avoid going 1-4, that now we are going 9-7? come on

  20. cotch seemed hurt out there.
for all you mets/jets fans, its bad enough when our teams lose, we have come to expect it- doesn’t it seem like not only do we lose but our rivals are thriving? the pats and phillies, the celtics, what’s with our bad luck. if not for stephan matteau i’d be an ofer.

  21. lol here come the schizophrenic fans.
Also did anyone notice we stopped the run better with Gholston on the field?

  22. Schotty called a strong game? I thought his playcalling was horrendous! But then again I guess it’s not SO bad when the other team knows that every freakin 1st and 2nd down would be a run…

  23. For the first time this year we got outcoached and physically outplayed. We should have lost by alot more than we did. We looked more like 2008 than 2009. Lets just hope its an aberration and not a sign of things to come.

  24. “The NY Jets: making crappy QBs look like Hall of Famers for 40 years.”

  25. Its not like we get too high or too low but when was the last time the Jets didn’t break our hearts. For me being a fan for over 25 years I keep ny guard with them. I don’t get sucked him by them.

But it is same old Jets when a game you are supposed to win to get hold of the division the Jets lose. SO keep the guard but dont get too low or too high with them.

  26. Exposed. Overrated. Manhandled. = Kerry Rhodes and the Jets Defense. This one hurt. On national TV.

  27. Whats scary is not the fact that we can’t sack anyone. We are still applying pressure and forcing quick throws. The scary thing is that we dont even have opportunities to intercept passes. The opposing team gets 3 or 4 balls in their hands on defense coming close to an INT. We dont even get that.

We are going to see a lot of Fred Jackson and Lynch ala Williams and Brown.

  28. everyone needs to calm down its a tough loss yes but it was a divisional game, which is always tough, on monday night on the road to a team that SHOULD have beat the colts 4-0 on monday night…an ideal record in the division is 4-2 which is still capable and we had a rough night against the wildcat

we need to focus on the bills which should be a win and when we r healthy with sheppard and strickland we will be even better its a long season so there is no need to jump off the bandwagon that quick…even super bowl teams have bad game if anyone remembers how awful the giants were in 2006-07 in some games including an awful showing against a divison rival on sun night (redskins)

everyone hits a bump in the road

  29. Some of you folks need to take a breathe and relax…

We got outcoached this game. Our D sucked.
But, we have to games next week that we should win relatively easily.
And as I indicated in the prior thread, we’ll see how good of a coach R Ryan really is when they face Miami again AT HOME, with plenty of tape to review from tonight’s loss to adjust their gameplan as needed.
Plus, Cotchery should be FULLY active by then; we’ll have Sheppard and Strickland back, or at least one of them back, and HENNE will likely NOT repeat that sort of performance against this team twice while playing at the Meadowlands.

I just don’t see the Jets losing against the BILLS or RAIDERS, so the true test will be when Miami comes to NY…THAT GAME will go a long way in determining just how far this team will be able to go this year…

Miami is certainly a well-coached team, however — gotta give ‘em credit where credit is due…. but the Jets really should have won this game regardless… despite the strong play by Miami’s RBs, if Henne didn’t complete 2 or 3 of those passes, this game would have been won by the Jets, despite the D’s mediocre play.
The next few weeks will determine exactly where this team stands….

  30. Fellow sufferers, this hurts. The only thing worse than losing to the fish is losing to the Hatriots.

Still, it was a good tough road game and we hung in there till the final seconds.

Sanchez to Edwards — are we going to be seeing a lot of that? I hope so.

Don’t know what else to say other than that I hate watching my squad lose, but unfortunately I’ve gotten used to it.

Oh, one more thing: initial commenter Chris: go **** yourself.

  31. Sanchez was average, he’s not why they lost, not why the game was close. He wasn’t great, wasn’t too bad. Shouldn’t be talking about him. It was all the defense, and the three LVP’s are Scott, Revis, and Rex.

  32. C’mon guys, we lost but man, we have Braylon Edwards now. You see those catches? I was pretty upset but c’mon, look at that silver lining. That guy IS a beast. He’s got swagger and he makes amazing catches.

We got outplayed. It happens. Every once in a while, Cleveland beats the Steelers. That’s all I’m gunna say.

  33. I was upset right after the game, but I’ve calmed down some.

Basically, we lost to the one NFL team that our defense can’t match up against well.

Big deal. It sucks that it happens to be our rivals and division foes, but that’s just a coincidence.

The Bills are going to pay next week, we’ll be 4-2. Then we’ll get the Dolphins again after seeing their gimmicky offense.

I doubt any team can push us around twice in three weeks. You don’t go from shutting down the top offense in the NFL to being a bunch of bums in one week.

Gimmicks frustrated and confused us tonight. Let’s see if that happens after some film watching and scheming by Big Rex.

  34. Anyone else see Henne’s tiger tattoo?

  35. i thought pace was coming back

  36. Calvin Pace had no effect on this game. Defense was supposed to be better when he came back and it wasn’t Disappointing. Stil 3-2. Come back hungry against the Bills and build up some momentum.

  37. HEY GUYS !!!!

And the worst part was Ginn caught the TD against Revis !!!!

  38. Two thoughts ran thru my head on the last play:
1-Oh damn it there running the wild cat
    2. CALL TIME OUT!

I am thoroughly disgusted. I never thought the D could play so poorly. This one hurts

  39. Anyone want a free IPod Nano. Tackle Ronnie Brown and we’ll talk!

  40. I agree JeffL. I was screaming for a timeout with about 50 seconds left right after Henne got the first down to Camarillo.

  41. Also, if we whine about this, we’re no different than the Pats fans that were all upset about us a couple weeks ago. Let’s show that we’re serious and we’re not cry babies and move on. Dolphins were super pumped and they managed to catch us off guard with a great display of offensive plays. We’ll learn and move on.

I agree, I do feel like we got beat by Navy lol.

  42. can you guys be reporters and tell a fair story? i don’t know if i speak for all jets fans but please have a back bone and take some responsibility!
    report cards:
    qb:b
    rb:b+
    wr:a
    Te:c
    Defensive line :b+

    qb:b
    rb:b
    wr:a
    te:c
    D-line:b-

come on guys you are professionals, does a grade of a team depend on just the offense?
Maybe words like brilliant, excellent, fantastic, tough, and outstanding, should be saved for another night?

  43. Our defense is an over rated joke! We suck again guys, we have now found out what kind of coach we really have. THE JETS SUCK, I HATE BEING A JETS FAN I WISH I COULD LIKE ANOTHER TEAM. REX RYAN YOU SUCK, JETS SUCK, SAME OLD JETS. THINK I WILL KILL MYSELF NOW. I HOPE WE DON’T WIN ANOTHER GAME, I AM REALLY TIRED OF THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  44. that was such BS they are such an annoying team. We got out played in every aspect of the game. Even the offesne wasnt great, we got every single call and still couldnt win. Pathetic. But theres nothing you can really do about it BECAUSE PRIME TIME FOOTBALL GAMES ARE FIXED

  45. hate to break to everyone

  46. Welcome to New York Braylon Edwards. You’re the real deal and worth every player that was given up and more. As for the vaunted Jets defense, good grief. That Miami offensive line made you guys look SICK!

  47. I’ve calmed down. We lost to a very good team. We got tons of favorable calls from the refs. This game could’ve been a LOT worse. Sure, it’s hard to swallow, but it’s just one game and we’ve got a soft schedule coming up. I cannot see us losing to the Phins in the Meadowlands…

  48. Fun game to watch…that single wing is exciting and definitely not a gimmick…once pat white is the full time wildcat qb watch out…tannenbaum take note…parcels knows how to win

  49. That was painful. Not stopping the run was bad enough but the Jets also have to practice wrapping up QBs. Too many bail-out passes given up with near misses on sacks. Pressure’s nice but you have to kill the play. The Ted Ginn bomb was avoidable and was ultimately the difference. I expected the #1 rushing offense to have some success, but the fact that a rookie making his second start beat us and didn’t take one sack is unacceptable.

On the plus side, the Jets ran better and Sanchez bounced back to some degree from the Saints debacle. No turnovers or big mistakes, but I also thought he was playing a little tight and over-thinking a bit. The truth is he could have racked up passing yards against that team, even with Cotchery barely able to play. If that’s what he gets out of Braylon Edwards on a couple of days of practice, I look forward to the next few weeks.

Against the Saints, the D played well enough to win, and this week the offense did. Now if only we can have both in the same week.

  50. Hey guys, maybe this was just a bad day at the office for the defense. I find it hard to believe that the defense we watched dominate the NFL for 4 weeks was all of a sudden exposed. The Bills and Raiders are next and then we get Miami in our house, hopefully in some cold, blustery weather. Jets win the next 2 weeks and then beat Miami at home and this game will stand out as a huge wake up call. I’d rather have a game like this in game 5, rather than game 12.

  51. this was not the team to be sending all out blitzes on.

want to know why our defense was so ineffective? because you do not blitz the hell out of a team as fast as the miami dolphins. for example: you send a 7 man blitz…. 2 yard screen pass to ricky williams… which leads to a 59 yard play… how about: 8 man rush, on a 3rd and 10…. no chance that miami is going to run the ball, leaving man to man coverage. dwight lowery gets beat.

im liking what rex is doing, but he’s got to know when to pick his battles. this is not a conventional team. they do not have 2 receivers, an elite running back, and a qb who will sit in the pocket and scramble bc the jets secondary can shut down the pass. no this team has essentially no wr’s, they have no elite qb, instead they have 3 agile running backs. you dont send blitz after blitz! you clog up the holes, you defend against screens, and you play it safe when its 3rd and 10 on your own 15 yard line with 1 minute to go.

this game was not lost because our team is a bust, or because they are not talented enough. this game was lost solely on coaching. rex, atleast so far, has proven to be a better coach than we all could have expected. a real risk taker that knows how to get the best out of his team. but his gameplan against the dolphins, was terrible (thats kindly put). not only that, but how do you trust drew coleman in a situation like that? why do you blitz in a situation like that, and furthermore, when presented with the exact same situation a minute later on your own 15… why would you ever go with the same play that just failed?

Others team have success against the dolphins because they play it more conservative. yes they give up yards but they also dont give up the big chunks of field that the jets did tonight, atleast as often.

not only that but the jets o-line should watch how the dolphins played tonight. it will really help them with learning how to create holes for the running backs. it seemed that 90% of the time the dolphins running backs had running room.

and what happened to cotchery? i think i heard his name once the entire game. yes the jets traded for braylon but it did not help that again the jets only had 1 really good wr on the field at a time. braylon did his part tonight but jericho was no where to be heard. i know he had some hamstring problem, but if thats the case you sit him and you prepare him for the bills. clowney could have contributed more in that 2nd slot.

    not a good game….

    but some positives:

it looks like the offense may actually make a contribution to the team this year. for the first few games it seemed to me like the defense would have to do all the work.

david clowney finally made a catch. in fact he made a few, one of which was a 54 yarder.

leon washington seems to be getting better with each passing week.

braylon edwards… do i need to say anything else? for now he has done his part.

special teams unit: great game. i dont know if the weatherford punt was intentional but nonetheless you guys showed up.

overall i think the majority of the people who have commented here are over reacting. this was not a case of the jets losing because their team did not have it, it was a case of poor coaching — primarily the defense. its good to have your bread and butter but its great if you can actually adapt to your oponent. it just makes me wonder if rex took the dolphins for granted and did not prepare as much as he did for the first 4 weeks. the jets looked sloppy defensively, maybe thats the reason. buffalo SHOULD be a gimme. They do not have the running that the dolphins have nor the receiving that the saints have. They do not have the defense that any team that the jets have faced has either. So…. unless the jets do not prepare for them, i do not see how they can lose it. Then again i thought the dolphins were going to be relatively easy to defeat as well…

im looking forward to seeing rex step up as a coach because clearly he was outcoached this game. im also looking to see players who make millions of dollars start earning their pay checks.

lets go jets… but i have to say, its hard to root for them just because they always have the ability to get our hopes up so high and then just as quickly deflate them.

  52. ITS COOL GUYS…….Lets not be typical fans and jump off the wagon just yet we had back to back road games with a rookie coach and qb…. We can learn alot from this game, We are still in first place!!! We need to just regroup and be there for are team this sunday coming up!!!!!

  53. QB: B- (DIdn’t lose it for us, and certainly kept us in it)
RB: C+ (Leon looked good tonight, not sure why we bother using Jones)
WR: A- (Edwards looked every bit worth it and Clowney had a nice catch)
TE: D (Keller had only 1 target and it was interference and none of the other TEs had any catches, lack of targets saves it from an F)
Special Teams: A (2 fake punts, no missed FGs, good return yardage)

D-Line: C+ (is Jenkins the only one who showed up?)
Linebackers: C- (Bart Scott was nowhere to be found)
Secondary: D (Ginn burned them, Henne was 20-26 for crying out loud)

  54. freddys dead, It did kind have a feeling of being fixed. The NFL/ESPN pushed this Hispanic game so much and wouldn’t have been complete without a Dolphins win. I don’t want to believe it, though.

  55. I can’t belive thus

  56. nationally televised kick in the nuts.
    0 sacks.
    Where is Dustin Keller?
    No forced turnovers.
Love Rex’s arrogance when we win.
Think he should spend less time talking when we lose.
    This one hurt.

  57. Dustin kept me from winning my fantasy game. I was feeling great when I ended yesterday tied with Keller yet to play. I needed anything from him to win and he didn’t get involved at all.

  58. Wow what a year makes in regards to our running game. Jones looks like he is 90 years old out there. The only time I want to see him next week is when we are on the 3 yard line and ready to score. Its the only thing he can handle. Time to give Greene more carries

  59. Not every team is going to be able to run the Wild Cat that well because they don’t have the players. Both Williams and Brown have an exceptional combination of speed and power. They were able to turn runs that would have normally been 2 yard games into 10 and 15 yard chunks. The problem Miami is going to have is keeping those guys healthy for 16 games with all that contact.

  60. The last couple of years…the offense….goes to one receiver exclusively the whole game. Nothing to Cotchery at all because of Edwards. Next week it will be all Cotchery and no Edwards. Spread the ball around some more.

TJ & Greene are the same running back up the middle and get touched and fall down.

  61. I always believed the NFL has some say in who wins or loses…..Oh the Jets and rookie QB beat Tom Brady and the Patriots (what a great story) then we can’t beat the 1-3 dolphins??

Last year it was the Brett Favre story and we just collapse the rest of the year?

MLB In the year 2000 the Yankees and Mets Subway series….who would’ve thunk??

  62. As a die hard Jets Fan this game was an embarrassment!

I HATE gimmick plays, and team that use them! I always felt that constant use of gimmick plays (say more then a handful of times) take away the enjoyment of any sport!

This includes teams I root for as well! Gimmick plays remove any strategy which is important, and creates a 1 dimensional sport which is plain boring!!

    Anyway…
Hey Rex did you forget to show your guys the taps, because it doesn’t look like the defense studied? You just got beat by a 1 win team! You should have followed the blue-print!

Its also time to abandon your were a run first offense because that sucked too for the last two weeks!

Since were speaking offense screw your Leon must get 20 touches rule!! Leon SUCKED tonight! He was like a child playing with adults, and was dominated! Leon should have been benched after the first half, with Greene his replacement!

This is on Shotty, your play calling stinks, and I hope Shotty is gone next year!

Other then that I love the Edwards trade, and the Sanchez rebound! I just felt bad for these two guys…. They really played well tonight and hope this loss to a gimmick team doesn’t effect them negatively!

  63. I’m going to be the first to say it……

Brand new team SAME OLD JETS!!

  64. It was a division loss to the fins so there is an extra little sting to the loss. Having said that the first thing I noticed right from the start of this game was that the Dolphins were playing like they had nothing to lose while the jets were playing like they had something to lose. Not so much on offence but the defence seemed like they were playing prevent again. Ryan gave them to much time and respect on defence.
Aside from that I saw some things on offence that were very good. Sanchez only forced the ball once, threw no picks, didn’t lead his receivers, threw a few pump fakes and if he played this good with Edwards after a few days of practice imagine what another week together will do for them so cheer up guys. Unless you were expecting the Fins to lay down because of their record.
The Jets and the Dolphins always have wild games, the loss sucks but I don’t think it will happen next time.

  65. Anyone reading this knows that being a Jets fan consists of years of embarassment interrupted by the occasional season of promise that ends with disappointment. After a 3-1 start, tonight was the night where out team had a chance to state on the field which type of season this would be.

To be fair, Dan Marino is a HOF QB.

    What? That wasn’t Marino? Weird.

Rex’s defense is overrated. That was a disgusting display. How anyone can look at buffalo, the raiders, and the fins again as gimmes is delusional. This was the 1-3 dolphins who marched up and down the field at will against our D.

I’m sick and can’t believe this organization has the balls to ask for outrageous PSL’s to watch these perennial losers next year.

    J-E-T-S suck suck suck.

  66. I cant believe how many fans are calling Miami’s wild cat offense a Gimmick offense…MIami has been working on this scheme for 2 years now and is starting to get successful with it…Are we a gimmick offense because we ran two fake punts on fourth down because we couldn’t convert on 3rd??? Miami is a team that is running a scheme that works pretty well for their personell and adding players each year that fit the scheme. The wildcat is going no where soon and the JETS better learn quick to defend it better…What about the run-n-shoot and no huddle offense are they gimmicks too…Ya’ll need to learn that the NFL is an evolving entity and its the great coaches with adaptibility that remain successful in this league…REX will need to get adaptive quickly and figure out a way to stop this formation consistently or we will see this formation from teams all year long…

  67. Come down guys.
    The positives.
    1. Were still in first
    2. Edwards. Finally a number one receiver
    3. Offensive line push. Finally Back
    4. David Clowney
    5. Sanchez’s rebound. Protected the ball. Didn’t stare down recievers.
    6. Cotch is hurt. Still won”t feel the 1 2 receiver punch until next week
    7. Jenkins is back

  68. Negatives
    1. Clearly Pace is Rusty
    2. Lowery and Coleman are terrible. ( Sheppard and Strickland, when they come back it’s over)
    3. Revis and Bart Scott played god awful.

  69. On a side note…. whats up with Clowney?

I concerned… Cotchery (injured), Clowney (injured), Edwards (may be depressed after this STUPID LOSS), who are we left to toss the rock too if the Bills cover Keller… Brad Smith?

    We fans are F—ed!

  70. I saw the silver lining after last week’s game.

The only positive here is that Edwards is one hell of a receiver.

The running game sucks. Jones is done. Where is the pressure on defense? And I thought Rex knew how to stop the wildcat?

Last week, sanchez lost the game. This week, our defense lost it.

  71. Don’t jump the wagon yet guys. Our offense is going to start turning it up soon! Offensive line finally made a couple of strong pushes! The Clown and Edwards !!! Cotch is clearly hurt and was only on the field as a decoy. It’s almost impossible for any team to stop the wildcat in the hot heat of miami. Unlike last year will beat the Dolphins when it matters this year ! * BTW Coleman and Lowery make me sick.

  72. Clowney had cramps from dehydration, he’ll be fine next week. Every time I watched Clowney he was open. They better start giving him the ball now.

  73. The gimmicks Miami has are named Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams. Running a play that puts the ball in either of these guys’ hands with an additional blocker is going to be problematic for any defense. Take these two players off the field and the Wild Cat isn’t going to scare anybody. The problem for Miami is they are both getting used Earl Campbell style and it’s a long season. I think Williams hurt an ankle near the end of the game and it’s not surprising.

  74. Tell me, guys, if you agree or not. I think this is a good football team, and they can win 10 or 11 games. However, the Bengals, Ravens and Steelers all either have better records or are a better football team, and it will be hard to beat the Pats out in the east. They’re going to have to be flawless to make it.

  75. The only positive here is that Edwards is one hell of a receiver.
RESPONSE ROB: your dead wrong. Cotchery was clearly bothered by the hamstring for this game. Definitely think he was only used as a decoy. Big upside for our offense when he gets back to full health. Offensive line showed some life today. The demon in Jenkins is finally starting to wake up. Clowney got good lucks ! He was open most of the time too. Sanchez rebound shows me he’ll be a solid qb for years to come. Rebounding after a 4 turnover game is a huge plus for me. The heat in Miami played a big role for the wildcat. Biggest issue was the coaching. They should of called a timeout before the final play. Defense looked exhausted. Big problem ! stupid decision.

  76. Jet Fan 4 Life…DId u watch the same game I did..Leon looked pretty impressive to me when they gave him the damn ball…Ronnie Brown averaged 3.5 yards per carry and Leon averaged 4.4…Are u trying to say that Ronnie Brown was terrible tonight too????Leon had 10 touches for 44 yards while Ronnie Brown had 21 for 74 yards…Get your facts straight before u spout off about who sucked and who didn’t…

  77. does anyone know what the front of drew coleman’s jersey looks like?

  78. This loss will make the Jets twice the team they are now! Tough to say but, watch. Jets are going to get a good run going now. And the next time the Jets play the Dolphins will but the stake in every Miami fan’s heart. Hope they enjoy this win.

  79. coleman needs to be released immediately. he is soooooooooo bad. sooooo bad. Lowery is terrible to me so imagine what I think of coleman.

  80. Yay. I would love to see Leon and Greene take the run game for the rest of the season. Thomas Jones is only good for the power yards

  81. Boooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

  82. The heat in Miami played a big role for the wildcat.

Response BleedGreen: so now we’re blaming the heat? We just got embarassed on national tv (well, cable) and you’re blaming the weather??

Yes, cotchery’s a good receiver. And I meant no slight. But I still take no positives from this game. This was a heartbreaker and showed that the jets defense ain’t the ravens defense, even with Rex, Bart and company.

I hope they can turn it around, but years of watching this team doesn’t make me optomistic. Same old jets.

  83. GANGGREEN:
I saw the same game as you bud, but every time Leon got the ball Miami was all over him in the backfield!

Most weeks Leon make a few big plays, but tonight Miami stopped him for short yardage. Those facts are true, and because Leon was held to 4 yards per carry he did not look good. Hell if the Jets wanted 4 yards per carry they should have kept giving the ball to TJ.

As for who sucked … the Jets as a team did because they lost to Miami !!

  84. Jets-Fan-4-Life,

Do you have a pair of freakin eyeballs? Leon did the best of any of our backs tonight. At least watch the game if you’re going to criticize the team. Jones is the real problem. He’s always had average speed but decent power and played as well as his O-Line. His O-Line isn’t playing as well as last year, but Jones is basically falling down after the 1st hit. Make Leon the feature back between the 20s, and put Jones or Greene in the red zone! I’m sick of Thomas Jones stinking up the joint.

But regardless of all that, this game was purely on the defense. Stupid wildcat! Anytime we score 27 we expect the defense to hang on to the win. If you told me before tonight we’d score 27 points, I would’ve assumed we’d win.

  85. From watching that game you’d never guess that Miami only out rushed the Jets by 13 yards and the Jets had a better average 4.6 – 4.2.

Of course, 151 rushing yards is too many to give up, but IMO the lack of disruption of the passing game and Henne’s 20/26 for 241 and 2 TDs was the real back breaker. A lot of those yards were almost like rushing yards, with lots of YAC to the backs, but Henne was way too comfortable.

  86. Ok, accepting the loss, now I can look back and appreciate the game, and some of the positives..

    Few points:

Lets just face it, we wont be facing this type of offense, aside from the Dolphins again, from anyone else…Our D has the talent and players for the traditional “QB in the pocket” type of offense.

Braylon fricken Edwards.. Did you see that catch???? SIC!! I started thinking about the future of the Jets a bit after that one… We’ve finally got the “lob it up” and he’ll bring it down over the little cornerback guy! Nice tool for the young Sanchez. (Only if he’s not throwing Pennington’esqe lobs)

Pariticularly against the Wildcat, I thought sending Rhodes from the outside was effective.. I didnt see them continue with that though..

Nice to see Clowney get a touch.. I like how we kinda snuck him in there and threw one deep later in the game.

Guys, aside from getting our butt whooped, it was a heck of a game to watch.. You knew that there would be some trickery between these two teams..

As far as “the game was fixed” theory.. it would appear that the calls were going the Jets way, if you mean the Refs are on the take, so I’m not sure that theory works.. Unless “SLUGGWERTH” got to Calvin Pace and the bunch before the game..

Thank goodness the Pats lost.. Hopefully we’ll have the Fins number the next time around.

  87. This thread makes me embarrased to be a Jets fan much more than the teams performance tonight. The Dolphins are a good team that got the better of the Jets tonight. Does anyone realize that we are still in first place? Sure, I am sick of the build up and let down that usually happens, but we are way ahead of where I expected us to be at this point. We beat the Patriots once already and judging by the way they are playing we will be beat them agoin later in the year. Did any of you really expect us to run the table in the east this year? Learn from the loss, stop calling for Rex’s head, and jsut enjoy the ride. There are a lot of promising aspects about tonights game. The offense was much better, we have a WR that the majority of us have been crying for since April and Sanchez rebounded nicley. We’ll see how this post looks next Sunday night after the team takes their frustrations out on the Bills.

  88. I AGREE, THIS THREAD IS EMBARASSING.

WE GOT BEAT. DEAL WITH IT.
YOU THINK KENYON COLEMAN IS THE DIFFERENCE? ARE YOU JOKING ME?
I WAS AT THE GAME TONIGHT. I LIVE IN MIAMI. AND I WAS SITTING IN BACK OF THESE 2 JET FANS, WHO WERE AMAZING PEOPLE. WHAT ANNOYED ME THE MOST, WAS HOW PESSIMISTIC THEY WERE. ALL THEY KEPT SAYING WAS HOW WE WEREN’T GOING TO WIN AT THE END.

REGARDLESS IF THEY WERE RIGHT, YOU DON’T ROOT FOR YOUR TEAM THAT WAY.

EVERYONE MAN UP!!!! THIS IS OUR TEAM. I AM DAMN PROUD OF IT. I STILL HAVE FAITTH THAT WE CAN MAKE A RUN TO THE SUPER BOWL. THAT’S RIGHT. TO THE SUPER BOWL.

I’M STILL ON THE BANDWAGON. ARE YOU?

  89. It wasn’t about the players.

Coaches Ryan and Pettine failed to create an unorthodox
D-formation to handle and unorthodox O-formation.

That, and no other reason is why the players were NOT
    in position to make plays.

    Our coaches were whooped.

But that’s okay- because every man has these kinds of days.

  90. your coach is a pompous ahole, “these gimmicks from college”. LOLOLOLOL . We kicked you where it hurts. DOLPHINS RULE. Sunshine over snow anyday.

  91. The game should of never been close, 3 pass interference calls, one for 1st and goal and the call was BS, admit it. 3rd -22 sanchez got lucky. Jets should of had 14 points less more or less. Dolphins Dominated and will win the AFC. Watch and Learn

  92. Very bad loss to an inferior opponent. I hope this serves as a wake up call, you can’t just show up in the NFL, even bad teams can jump up and bite you if you don’t bring it.

  93. I think we stopped them in the 3rd Quarter with the Bear Defense – i think that’s 5DL and 2LB’s. Where the heck did it go? When they put two good blocking TE’s on the field with a solid FB and have a RB at QB, you should not be playing a base 3-4 defense. If they put 5 WR’s out there would you only put out two CB’s? No. Rex needs to stop being so F’n cocky and be willing to change personal to match the other teams. Our LB’s were dominated all game because we only had 3DL and they had 9 blockers!

  94. No Class… Ryan is a sore looser. Can’t even give the Dolphins credit for beating the pants off of them. The Dolphin’s QB has a name. You will be hearing it for a long time to come.

    Admit it…you got beat.

  95. I think everyone needs to relax. It was one bad game by a defense who has been shutting down opponents all season. Even the great Ravens defense had bad games. It happens, this is the NFL it can go either way every Sunday. Yes the defense couldn’t come up big in the end, but you guys need to look at the bright spot, our offense looked good yesterday for the first time all season. Our defense will bounce back, i just hope our offense can continue to get better. The jets were picked to go 5-11 this year with a rookie QB. We came out better then anyone could have expected, lost two games.. SO what. Im not ready to give up on them yet. What pissed me off was listening to Steve Young who said” I came here to see if this so called jets defense was like the ravens, guess what they are not”

Oh yeah steve, last time i checked the ravens lost to the pats who we shut down two weeks ago.The jets need to regroup win the next two games and come out strong against miami the second time.

Relax buddy, last time i checked losing by one score isn’t exactly getting the pants beat off anyone. And if the dolphins were so sure about their QB they probably would let him hold the ball more then he does..

  97. To all the above conspiracy idiots, the JETS got EVERY close CALL in this game so how was it fixed for MIA?

MIA did not need anyone’s help to win this game, they outplayed the JETs, plain and simple.

IF you are that convinced games are fixed stop betting on them. If you are not betting then vote with your remote, stop watching.

But dont clutter up the Jetsblog with your stupid fixed game comments.

  98. @DolphinsRule

You have three weeks to talk, enjoy it while you can.

  99. Hey look at it this way, on the bright side of things next week we are playing a high school football team with an offensive line that has an attention span of a fruit fly. Then after that we play against a quarterback who couldn’t hit the broad side of a building. We just NEED to show up week 11 against the Pats. That is our playoff game our “Super Bowl” if you will. Week 2 meant nothing, now its time for the defense to grow a pair and live up to their potential.

  100. Anyone that’s off the bandwagon already is a joke. Jets are a good team and although their defense got torched lastnight it was against the top rated run offense in the league. I know we all hate the Dolphins but they are a good balanced team. We were only favored by 1.5 PTs.

I think you’re gonna see them come out and put a hurting on the bills next week and the raiders. I also think we’ll be 6-2 after the next Miami game.

Take away those two faked punts, and the score wouldn’t have been even close.

    Jets Suck Suck Suck

Yeah…three weeks until we kick you in the groin again.

  103. its all over jets fans miami unlocked rex’s master defense.. it’s going to be a long season !

  104. IT WAS A GOOD GAME. THEY RAN THE WILDCAT AND THEY RAN THE BALL. WE NEVER CAPATALIZED WHEN THEY THREW THE BALL WHICH IS THEIR WEAKNESS. THE DOLPHIN QB KILLED US EVERYTIME HE THREW THE BALL. WE NEVER GOT A SACK. AND THE WAY THE GAME WAS GOING ONE SACK WOULD’VE BEEN ENOUGH TO WIN THE GAME. THE 3RD AND TEN KILLED US. THERE IS NO WAY WE SHOULD’VE ALLOWED A 10 YRD PASS!!! THE MIAMI WEAKNESS KILLED US!!

  105. 226 OF UNANSWERED PASSING YRDS!!! 150 YDS OF RUSHING YRDS IS UNDERSTANDABLE BUT ALL THOSE YRDS PASSING. BAKC TO THE VIDEO-TAPE REX!!!

  106. This is a joke! All you people who are ripping the Jets. This is a young offense with a rookie QB! on MNF. We got one of the easier schedules coming up and it will all play out from there. Braylon looked great as did the rebound from Sanchez. This is a young team! Chill your nips.

  107. 1. calvin pace was rusty
    2. the defensive line was not good except for jenkins which allowed the wildcat to the second level
    3. the linebacker core had pitiful tackling
    4. we were missing top corners in the passing game as well as in the rushing game

to fix these, injuries need to heal and better coaching and tackling

    offense looked good…27 points..not bad

leon did great along with edwards and clowney

cotchery and keller were quiet, cotch is hurt btw

better next week, regroup and dont worry about it

  108. Ok. Is it beyond reason to think that maybe Miami isn’t a bad team? I mean, can you for one second even consider that the Dolphins aren’t just “gimmicky”…they are also a pretty decent NFL team? That maybe they didn’t catch the Jets “off guard” but rather they had a good gameplan and won the game by executing it?

Nah…I forgot you guys are Jets fans. Nevermind.
