Some more thoughts on the 31-27 loss to the Dolphins from last night.

I Can’t Wake Up — In brief, watching the defense during most of that game was like a nightmare that you can’t wake up from. While the clock ran down and ran down in the last minutes, Ryan did nothing to give his team another chance to drive against the inevitable score that was going to come … that everyone knew was coming. It wasn’t until they were set up at the goal line that you could see in Rex’s face “hey I’m going to lose this game.”

A Game of Opposites — Whatever you think about Mangini, he understands one thing about football, if a team is good at something, then neutralize that very thing. I think we can all agree that the Jets are really, really good at blitzing. Watching what the Dolphins did offensively to the Jets last night, made me realize that this Jets defense is currently constructed and/or schemed to play against a more wide-open brand of football .. to play against a team that is behind and needs to throw to catch up .. to play “downhill” as Steve Young called it after the game. Bart Scott might say How Dare You? (pulled from this) to me, but the truth is that the Dolphins are constructed to play a very physical rushing offensive brand of football and as of what I saw last night, the Jets are not.

The Jets are a defense that’s lifeblood is blitzing the passer, and in this Wildcat heavy Dolphins team, they’re asking for very few plays from their wideouts, and when they do, the Dolphins were in such heavy pass protection packages that their overload of “heavy” skill players (Running Backs and Tight Ends) on the field at most times that it compressed the Jets defense down and neutralized it.

Bad Tackling — There was some straight up bad tackling by the Jets in that game. I know that the Dolphins have an elusive run package and were coming at the Jets from odd angles for a running attack, but there’s no excuse for bad tackling. I don’t know what the deal is, but in both the Saints and Dolphins game I noticed this. It needs to be corrected quickly.

Lemme Upgrade You — I’m sorry Thomas, weren’t you saying something about getting a new contract? Through five games, TJ’s average yards per carry is a rather uninspired 3.7. Yes, Jones has five touchdowns, but on the whole, he’s not being productive as they need him to be in a lead role. Leon is averaging just north of 12 touches a game, so there’s room to get him more carries or passes thrown to him … So far, Shonn Greene has touched the ball just seven times from the backfield. It’s time to see what Shonn Greene can do, we know what Jones is doing, and it’s not really working.

Sorry, But Passer Interference Calls and Fake Punts Aren’t Exactly Offense — Sanchez had a fine game … no turnovers and no picks, but not a great completion percentage either. The Jets stayed competitive in this game offensively due to some fake punts and a number of passer interference calls. Braylon Edwards makes the Jets more likely to get passer interference calls to go their way as he will be force smaller secondary players to do so, but let’s not delude ourselves into thinking that the offense was firing on all cylinders for the whole game, it needed a lift from the deus ex machina at times.

Sanchez to Edwards — The ray of light in the game was seeing how these two can continue to get on the same page and work together. From what I saw in one game was impressive, but I think matchups will determine how effective Edwards can be for Sanchez through the rest of the season.

Now that my emotions are starting to level out, i think we will be OK.. One game doesn’t make or break a team, yeah, that was a BAD LOSS… Sometimes, that’ll wake you up.

Now, let’s take it out on Buffalo.. After that, Oakland,, Then, it’s time for the Dolphins again on 11/1, heading into the bye…

to all jet fans let this be a reminder that know matter the coach or anything else that is new they always return! the same ol jets are back!

Edwards seemed to be in single coverage most of the night, that will change this week.

^^ comments like this (reality jet fan) irk me to no end

It was a tough, ****ty loss, but Rex Ryan has no choice but to be ready for the wildcat in a couple of weeks when we see the Phins. Our offense looks like it’s starting to click and the line had some nice second-level blocks on a few runs, particularly Leon’s. We just have to take it on the chin…we’re still leading the division and we have the Bills coming up, so hopefully that should be a nice little bounceback win.

And like I said yesterday, Henne sure does throw a nice deep ball. And maybe he’s a pretty good QB. That’s bad for us, but it should make for some exciting Jets-Phins games for the next decade or so.

u know if they win that game then maybe something special this year. but as usual the get rid of that feeling . its what they do its what they always do!

  9. avatar jetsman says:

im sorry and everyone is going to yell at me, but the jets need to stop giving it to jones..they should have tried to trade him for picks this preseason. The backs should be washington and greene. Thomas jones looks like he is slow, he bounces side to side and then gets tackled. Greene lowers his head and hits the hole. Anyone watching jets games knows washington gains yards almost all the time. Thats the one thing bothering me. yeah the loss hurt, but atleast our offense started to show signs of clicking. Our defense will bounce back, the had one bad game in 5 weeks of football. Hopefully we beat them in 3 weeks at home..

  10. avatar starz31 says:

    The trolls are back…watch out

    Same Ole Jets…grow up, please.

You do understand teams, sometimes, now follow me here…teams sometimes, lose. It happens. It happens all the time.

We got beat last night. Straight up. As soon as we realize that and accept that we can get back to work and see how this team rebounds. They know they got beat…no question…now lets see how they adjust to what beat them and how they were beat…and I trust Rex Ryan to address what needs fixing. These are not the same ole Jets.

  11. avatar GP says:

I completely agree with jetsman on all counts. Thomas Jones looks like he’s pretty much cooked. With the exception of that 7 or 8yd run he had on 2nd down in the 4th quarter, he hits the hole like he’s running in a pair of Timberlands underwater. If a back can’t be explosive, then he shouldn’t be getting the amount of carries TJ does. And he can’t catch for ****.

The defense will bounce back. That was a character-building loss and now you’re gonna see guys like BScott and Rhodes playing with a chip on their shoulders.

  12. avatar starz31 says:

    I agree with you jetsman…

Leon is a pleasure to watch. Every time he touches the ball, you just dont know what might happen. But, seriosuly, he is a pretty good runner when given the ball, not just when passed to or in screens…the guy can run between the tackles. He always seems to make something out of nothing, and he just has that burst to at least gain a few yards every carry. He needs to touch the ball more. If that means taking him out of return duties…so be it. its for the greater good. He needs more carries, not just touches.

  13. avatar Rob Nacarano says:

Many are raving on a nice performance by Sanchez but I wouldn’t go that far. He threw some not so nice passes and completed half of his pass attempts. The Jets always seem to play better in the second half, and don’t know if that’s a good thing or bad.

  14. avatar GP says:

BTW, did anyone else notice that Jimmy Leonhard was one of the few people on D who totally brought it last night? I love that dude.

  15. avatar R in CT says:

Jones stalling out the run game is having an interesting effect on Leon in that it seems Leon is juking and jiving a lot more behind the line, trying to take it to the house on every play rather than just running straight ahead. Sometimes it’s okay to just run ahead and get 3 yards rather than jump around and get dropped for a loss.

The key here is “sometimes” — Jones seems to be falling down as soon as he hits the line on almost every carry, content to take 3 “hard” yards. And man, does he look slow hitting the hole. He lines up extra deep, telegraphing his runs, and then seems to plod his way up there.

I understand about softening up a defense, but Jones seems like the soft one right now. The only time I’ve seen him run with real giddyup and purpose was when Shonn Greene got in and made some big runs behind the same line.

  16. avatar Bristolstreet says:

    SOJ!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. avatar the fin says:

tough loss for the jets. it’s disturbing to see a “great defense” get smacked in the mouth and off the ball by the fins play after play. even more disturbing is take away 2 fake punts to keep the drives going, plus 2 suspect pass interference penalties and this game isn’t as close as you think. the dolphins were just better prepared and ran it down the jets throats…

  18. avatar Lafflin says:

I agree Jones does not run to his strengths. He tries to be elusive, he tries to find the big hoe, and then he gets tackled for a loss. I’m sure he thinks well there was no hole. What he needs to do is put his head down and run hole or no hole.

  19. avatar sec133 says:

This was an unexcuseable loss. The jets had the opputunity to win a division game and take gain a huge advantage in the AFC East. The defense came out flat to say the least and were pushed around for 4 quarters against the dolphins offense… disgraceful… This team better have a serious gut check this week and come back to reality.

Kudos to Starz31 and those that admit we got beat “sraight-up” I know the guys don’t want to hear this, but this is why I don’t believe in that rah, rah bully stuff spewed by Rex and Scott during preseason. It only takes one solid punch to the mouth to straighten out a bully. After that you depend on everything you are prepared for.

Rex gave notice to all teams that to beat them they have to win the fight before they can win the game.

This has been clearly evident the last two games and clearly shown by the Ravens last year and this year. All their loses have come to physical teams.

Miami is a physical team and the Jets should have been ready for them. The real question (problem) is, were they ready?

  22. avatar starz31 says:

That was a great catch by Edwards in the picture above. 3rd and 22…huge play…great throw, even better catch.

Sanchez hitting Clowney in stride was a great play.

Sanchez missed some throws though, forced some things, it seemed at times, he could have set, or reset, his feet and then make a good throw, but instead threw off his back foot a few times…one time in particular when he threw behind Braylon coming across on a short 3rd down pass.

  23. avatar testiculon says:

The fin: You can’t just “take away” plays that happened. Take away the two third down completions on the fins final drive and the Jets win.

  24. avatar NJets says:

This is a tough one to swallow. Unfortunately, I was there to see it with my own two eyes. I have one specific comment about the entire game and I strongly feel it was a big reason we lost this game. THOMAS JONES IS TERRIBLE. How can we win the possession game when TJ is getting no more than 3 yards per carry? How? Our Defense was on the field ALL GAME because we cannot establish drives that slow the opposing team down. IM DONE WITH TJ and so should Rex, because he is FINISHED. Our defense was straight up gassed last night. They had no energy, and I don’t blame them. We needed Sanchez and Braylon to save our drives because TJ just cannot control the ball. As soon as Leon got more touches, IMMEDIATELY, the offense changed. Its a joke. Leon gets no less than 5 yards per carry it seams. He hits the holes! I’m obviously upset about the way our D played, but we did nothing on the offensive side of the ball to rest the defense, regroup, control the clock and give us a better chance to win. Shonn Greene has to spell Leon, and thats that. TJ is DONE.

  25. avatar DaveN says:

As a former Jets QB/now NY morning radio host said it so eloquently – “The other team gets paid to play, too.” I give props to the Fins for mastering this gimmick O. The played it well, diminished the Jets D’s strength, and got the W. From the Jets prospective, the biggest issue was they knew the Wildcat was coming and could do nothing to stop it. As I mentioned to my Fins fan friend this AM, watching the Fins O last night was like watching a knuckleball pitcher – everyone knew what was coming but they couldn’t do anything against it. Every gimic Wildcat run worked for them and then when they (marginally) threw the ball, it was like a batter facing a 89 mph fastball after watching 65 mph knuckle balls all nite, no one knew what the heck to do. It was frustrating to watch.

I still say the Jets D has had 4 good showings against 4 good/non-gimmick O’s this season and 1 horrendous showing last nite, so I’m not giving up on them yet. And if anyone disparages Sanchez the the O for being the beneficiaries of a few “fluke” plays, they should take a hard look at the Wildcat, which is a compilation of “fluke” plays.

The bottom line is there is work to be done w/ the Jets, don’t get me wrong, so hopefully they’ll keep at it and get it right. And if anyone thought the Jets were cakewalking their way to the AFC East crown, they should check themselves, as they were fooling themselves. Its gonna be a loooong season.

  26. avatar igs says:

    My thoughts on the Lose:

-It’s okay Jets fans. It’s okay. You can chalk this one up to the defense not geling. Don’t panic. It’s more imperative for Rex to learn the wildcat

-Chris Jenkins was pissed!!!! at the end of the game.

-Bad tackling. That’s not Jets football.

-I told you guys that the Jets would see Pat White on the field.

-Scotty is making a mess of this offense. The Jets finally have all the personnel to have a legitimate bread and butter offense and he’s still calling these stupid gimmick plays, or doing other dumb things like not going down field to Braylon Edwards on 2nd and 1. The guy has little respect for the basics. Boy, if you can combine him and his father into one mega-human.

-Ted Ginn Jr., the WR that you guys say is so horrible burned your shut down corner and 2 other DBs for a big TD. Respect the draft.

-Sanchez and Edwards were out of sync. Sanchez is going to have to put some more mustard on that arm and Edwards is going to have to adjust to a ball that floats a little more than he’s gotten in the past. But ohhhhhh, that sideline catch. I saw flashes of greatness from the offense.

-You know, I think with some more effort, Brad Smith makes a good posession reciever. He’s really strong. I noticed that last week when that guy from the Saints ran into him and the Safety got hurt instead of Smith – I think that was last week. Then this week he broke a tackle by just shrugging a DB off of him.

-Fasano’s gotta be covered better in the endzone. Wildcat or no wildcat.

-Edwards got the dropsies again didn’t he. He got lucky on that fake pass interference call.

-This is one of those games that will have drastically different outcome when the Jets offensive and defensive units gel.

  27. avatar JesusRevis says:

Its a loss not a “lose”

its Kris Jenkins, not “chris” jenkins.

tough loss, and good play by Ginn, but youre “respect the draft” comment still has no meaning. Ginn was a bad pick and hasnt lived up to his #9 selection.

its gonna take me a while to get over this one.

  28. avatar Steve in Philly says:

How should we respect the draft of Ted Ginn Jr, igs? Please justify this all for me using actual statistics and game metrics. We’ll see what you find. Keep in mind, even JaMarcus Russell makes a lucky throw every once in a while…

  29. avatar Glocknsoul says:

Pettine and Rex got schooled…..SCHOOLED! by Henning and Henne…… Chad Friggin’ Henne…… Pathetic. Hate to say it, but that’s same old Jets. Set up to run off 4 wins in a row against the sisters of the poor, and they blow it. That D needs to take a look in the mirror and get theri legs moving as fast as their mouths. That was an AWFUL offensive team with an unproven QB that should have been EATEN UP by a good “D” – which I was led to believe the Jets had. Just when I think they’ve turned the corner………. SOJ – Same Old Jets !

  30. avatar BIGMAIN24 says:

I agree with jetsman. Jones needs to go. he can’t find holes and his first step after getting the ball is slow. Washington and greene are the true backs for the jets. They get more than just 1 or 2 yards everytime they touch the ball and know how to find holes. But that doesn’t take away how horrible the jets defence played. I was at the miami game and boy did I feel embarrass. If the defence jus showed up for atleast 1 drive we would of won. If we lose agaisnt the bills u might as well call us the same o’l jets.

JesusRevis, thanks for correcting my misspelling and bad grammar. Perhaps you can quit your day job as a total loser to work as an English professor. That is if you’ve ever read a book in your life.

  32. avatar Glocknsoul says:

Gruden was lovin’ on TJ last night. If that’s his “analysis” as an expert, former HC, I’m not sure I’d want him coaching my team. On second thought – can we get him on a team so we can trade TJ to him? Maybe he’ll be as generous as Mangina.

  33. avatar igs says:

    Glock,
Although the Jets have played phenomenally in the last few games, remember that they’re still learning a system and offense and defense. That wn’t happen overnight.

Steve, that comment just goes back to an ongoing conversation that I’ve had with some of the guys here about the quality of the Dolphins WR corp.

  34. avatar Glocknsoul says:

Isn’t # 77 supposed to be the key to stopping the run game? If you know they’re going to run, how do you not stop them- unless…………… they’re just better players than you. Are we to believe that the Fins OL is that much better than Jenks, Ellis, Harris, Scott? If so, then we’ve been sold a bill of goods on these guys.

  35. avatar Clowney says:

It will take every Jets fan until Sunday at 4 to get over the loss. It is the nature of football, the excitement of an any given sunday (or monday, Saturday, sometimes thursday). Indeed, it was a tough loss to a division rival that is always tough to swallow, but, please, it is just one game. We end the day still on top of the AFC East.

Next week we have a struggling Bills team. Short week. Let’s bounce back on the defensive side (hopefully get a little healthier) and hopefully see some more offensive gelling with the whole bunch.

I am not to worried and anyone who says this is the same old jets is just falling into the trap of the ancient adage that hovers over this team. This is a different Jets, like it is every year, and this year more than the last. We have a different coach, different QB, and different way of football thinking. Miami outplayed us but Rex and the boys will watch tape and be ready when Miami comes knocking on our door in 3 weeks. Yet, between then and now we have two opponents who have looked miserable this year. That does not mean overlook them. We should take these two games easily. No reason to make them hard on us.

  36. avatar Glocknsoul says:

    igs,

Ginn burned three guys (three!) including Revis on that play. Reason: NO PASS RUSH. Revis, as great as he his, needs SOME help from the front 7, and got NONE last night.

  37. avatar GP says:

While I still think Ted Ginn is a bum, with that speed and Henne’s ability to throw the deep ball, that’s gonna be a dangerous combo. Last night, I had flashbacks of Henne deep to Manningham for 3 TDs against my Fighting Irish a couple years ago. I broke out in a cold sweat.

  38. avatar starz31 says:

“Edwards got the dropsies again didn’t he. He got lucky on that fake pass interference call.”

When did he get the dropsies? I don’t recall this. Do you mean when he came across the middles of the field and Sanchez threw behind him?
Or do you mean on that late-game, deep pass, PI call? I thought it was pretty obvious that only a terrific play would have resulted in a catch there…the guy ran full speed downfield and had to lay out for the pass in front of him and just barely dropped it. I’m sorry, but not many players make that catch, simple as that. PI was questionable, slo-mo didn’t do it justice. It looked like he did grab him somewhat at full speed. Hard to say, either way, big call in a big spot.

  39. avatar subwayfare says:

Revis said he made a bad read on the play and that’s clear from looking at the tape. Doesn’t mean Ginn isn’t fast and he made the big catch when he had to.

The Jets were actually only out-rushed by 13 yards and had a better average. It was the failure to disrupt Henne, take away his hot reads when the pressure came that made the difference.

The undefeated Colts got steamrolled by the Miami rushing attack too, but they played better against the pass and had Peyton to bail them out at the end.

  40. avatar J-Kay says:

I just want to know how Henne’s 2nd down play at the end of the game wasn’t grounding…

  41. avatar igs says:

One of the problems about Jets fans on this blog. You respect the Jets. But you don’t respect football. You should respect any good athlete’s abilitys whether you like the athlete or not. Ginn is a good young WR. He made a fantastic play. He’s a good developing WR. He came out pretty raw. But it was a good pick on the Dolphin’s part.

Jenkins actually spent a good amount of time in the Dolphin’s backfield. Pace also. It was the bad tackling and bad coverage that lost the game, especially when it counted. I’m telling you guys, the defense was thinking and that’s bad. Chalk this one up to Rex’s inexperience with the wildcat and the offense and defense needing more time to get the program down. Not in any way a big deal.

  42. avatar starz31 says:

Looking at the replay J-Kay, he run out of the pocket to his right…he was several yards to the right of his RT, and then threw it back across his body. He took the snap from the left hash, but threw it from the right hash, it seemed like he cleared his RT. But gotta say, i’ve never seen a QB clear the tackle and then throw it away to the opposite side of the field lol.

  43. avatar igs says:

    Starz,
Another problem with a lot of you guys. Anything less than complete praise for a player gets attacked. I thought Edwards had a great game. It doesn’t matter where that ball was placed, it ended up in Edwards hands and it should have been his catch. It’s something to keep an eye on considering his reputation.

The pass interference call was totally bogus. also, but you gotta take it where you can get it.

  44. avatar subwayfare says:

Rex took responsibility and it was warranted. The D got frustrated by the Wild Cat, started over committing, lost focus against the blitz beater pass.

It was almost like a boxer who gets drawn into a brawl and forgets to box. Miami has a remarkable running attack with Williams and Brown, whether Pace likes it or not, and enough speed with Ginn to hurt you if you don’t play sound D all around.

  45. avatar reality jet fan says:

i have heard the same speech with every new coach and qb we bring in. just once it would be nice to be a big time team.

  46. avatar reality jet fan says:

last night was a huge game for the jets and they s#@t the bed. i was so pumped with this coach just feels like nothing special

  47. avatar starz31 says:

reality jet fan…grow some balls man. I don’t mean to attack, but its week5. We can’t play well every week. The season is a marathon. We started strong and now are in a lull. We haven’t had this much talent on our roster since, maybe 1998. I trust Rex Ryan. Our defense will rebound and respond. I’m not saying we will do big things this year, b/c personally, with a rookie QB, expectations need to be low, but I see the talent we have, and trust our new coach, and things are looking up for this team. This is just a bump in the road.

  48. avatar starz31 says:

igs, im just saying Edwards did not drop any simple plays last night. he did drop simple plays in Cleveland. His reputation does not befit that drop ball on the deep PI call last night. Even if he catches it, he probably drops it when hitting the ground…the guy was running full speed and laid out for that ball and hit the ground hard. That drop does not worry me at all. Maybe if the CB didn’t commit PI, he catches it ;-)

  49. avatar subwayfare says:

I’m not jumping ship. They Jets won’t face a rushing attack like that from anyone else and I’m certain they’ll play better against it at home the 2nd time around.

The D will learn and adjust, Pace will get better with some more playing time. A healthy Lito and Strickland will bolster the back end.

The offense has a lot of potential with both Edwards and a healthy Cotch on the field. Every NFL game is like a football PHD course for Sanchez. He’s only started five games. He’ll get better.

The Jets D played well enough to win against the Saints. The Jets O played well enough to win against the Dolphins. Put them both together the Jets are tough to beat.

  50. avatar subwayfare says:

I’ll take the Braylon Edwards that played last night every Sunday. He made catches no one else on the roster could have made and also fought a ball away from the defender on a bad Sanchez throw to the sideline that could have been a pick 6. Personally, I looked at the tape twice and didn’t think the PI call was so bad. Edwards was arm barred at the second the ball arrived. Could have been a non call, also, I’ve seen plenty of those go either way. But it wasn’t a blatant drop. The ball over the middle he got his hand on was thrown behind him.

  51. avatar jetfanATL says:

It’s way too early for all the fake Jet fans to trot out the “same old jets” line. I know the dolphins record wasn’t good coming in but they gave Indy all they could handle and lost 2 other games to playoff caliber teams (ATL and SD). They aren’t a bad team at all and losing a tough game on the road to them shouldn’t cause a mass exodus from the Jet bandwagon (although if it does please go and quit posting on this site…)

So far we’re 1-2 on the road w/upcoming games @ Buffalo, @ Oakland, @ Indy, @ Tampa and @ New England. Even if we lose to the Colts and Pats on the road we still should beat the three bottom feeders and finish no worse than 4-4 away from home….. Hold serve at home and split on the road is how you make the playoffs in this league. Now of course we still have Carolina, Atlanta, Buffalo, Miami, Cincinnati and Jacksonville at home. I refuse to believe the fish will sweep us and at a minimum we beat Buffalo, Jacksonville and Carolina as well to go no worse than 10-6 and be in the playoff hunt.

If you want to be crying the same old Jets chorus though wait to see what happens the next two weeks. A flat loss to Buffalo and losing in Oakland would certainly give credence to that theory.

At least this jet fan doesn’t think that will happen. Jets roll the next two weeks, beat Miami at home and go into the bye week 6-2

  52. avatar Ferraro41 says:

You know what I take away? As tough as that loss was, as poorly as we played on defense and as sporadic as we were on offense, we were actually WINNING that game with less than 10 seconds to go.

And keep in mind, the Dolphins had a tremendous game plan that their players executed to perfection…there is no way the Dolphins, especially on offense, can play any better than they did last night.

But that’s why there is hope…while the Dolphins offense can’t play any better than they did last night, I KNOW our defense can play a lot better. And so I’m looking forward to not just getting back in to the win column this weekend, but to our rematch with them in a few weeks.

  53. avatar AL says:

The difference in the offense when Thomas Jones is on the sideline is huge.

I have been saying Leon should be the starter since the preseason.

  54. avatar reality jet fan says:

so nobody thought we would win the next 4 games and be 7 and 1. Because i did! AND ONCE AGAIN LET DOWN

  55. avatar Ferraro41 says:

    jetfanATL….I totally agree with you.

  56. avatar Topdog123 says:

It came down to this. Miami ran great mis-direction plays which threw off the blitz. Defense was worn out by the 4th qtr.

Miami had a better game plan

The game might have been saved if the clock was managed correctly at the end of the game. Coaches win/ lose 3 to 4 games during the season.

    This one is on REX

  57. avatar Joe in Orlando says:

igs, Ted Ginn is spoken of down here in almost the same way we talk about Gholston. He’s been considered a disappointment since he was drafted.
You’re just wrong in your assessment of Ginn.

  59. avatar ATL Jet FANATIC says:

We need to trade for a MONSTER Pass Rusher NOW. Tannenbaum get on the F’In Phones….a high school team would have given Henne less time in there…it was like he had a FORCEFIELD around him….We need a Dwight Freeney, Richard Seymour, John Abraham (yes, HIM) – type player NOW….How many sacks do the Jets have this year?!! Vernon Gholston is a waste of a jersey and bus seat…..They should just cut his sorry a$$ now…… I dont know who is available, but we need someone….. Also – I love T Jones, BUT like other have said – Leon needs to start. Use Jones in spot situations, goal line stuff, 2nd half mainly when opposing Ds are TIRED…. On the spread offense, Rex should have Clowney & Braylon going deep, Keller and Cotch going over the middle, and Leon/Shonn Greene in the backfield….That would be UNSTOPPABLE for us……

  60. avatar ATL Jet FANATIC says:

I just think that the entire defense, along with Rex and Pettine were partying too hard at Mangos on Ocean Drive in South Beach the night before….They played like they had a hangover…..everyone – EXCEPT Kris Jenkins & Jim Leonhard…….They should walk back to NJ as punishment…….

I like our defensive core – Kenkins, Scott/Harris, Rhodes, Leonhard, Revis, Pace is (ok), BUT we need to add a MONSTER pass rusher soon or we will get torched by most average QBs in the league….

  61. avatar ATL Jet FANATIC says:

    Jenkins, not “Kenkins”, sorry

  62. avatar igs says:

Starz, don’t necessarily disagree, still something to watch. The ball was in his hands.

  63. avatar igs says:

Joe, I watched Ginn a lot in college. I know a talented WR when I see one. This is his 3rd year. If the Dolphins stick by him they got a marqui WR very soon. He doesn’t have the oversized confidence that a guy like Desean Jackson has so the game is taking a little while longer to transfer. But trust me, he’s got a good da, he’s got good talent. Just because he’s wasn’t an overnight sensation don’t mean he won’t be a good WR.

Speaking of WRs. Phew, anybody watch Louis Murphy in Oakland? Boy it’s a good thing we got Shonne Green and didn’t draft that guy. He’s just awful.

  64. avatar igs says:

As far as the Jets, just give it time. This aint the same old Jets. They have a complete team. GIve them some time to grow.

And threaten to pummel Brian Schottenheier if he don’t reign the playbok in, Rex.

  65. avatar EpidemikE says:

God there is some trolling going on here.

The offense was adequate enough this game for us to win it. There were glimmers of greatness but they still have a ways to go in being a threatening offense.

Rex did plan against the wildcat and has had success against it when he was in Baltimore but the wildcat ran by the Dolphins was different. They had bigger stronger personnel in the package that could handle the Jets defenders. You didnt have the mismatch of a blocking WR to a LB or lineman. They had to deal with big strong TEs or OL as a TE

Tackling was an issue. We started to see it against the Saints and last night it went to the next level.

Back to the offense, we really, really need to run more. The Jets D was on the field for too long which became more and more evident as the game progressed. The Dolphins had 3 drives with double digit downs, not good for the D.

Its not the same old Jets, the team needs to see the issues, address them and correct them in order for the team to be successful.

  66. avatar subwayfare says:

The good news is that no D coordinator is going to watch the tape – including that PI/drop, however you view it – and say, “Oh we can just single up on Edwards.” This game will absolutely add a problem to the way DC’s game plan against the Jets that they didn’t have before.

  67. avatar Joe in Orlando says:

igs, just because you believe Ginn will one day be a good player does not make it true that “Ginn is a good young WR”.

I could just as easily say I watched a lot of Gholston in college, declare that I know a talented LB when I see one and promise he’ll be a “marqui” player if we stick with him. I find your argument for Ginn just as convincing as you’d find my Gholston argument..

  68. avatar igs says:

    Joe,

56 Receptions for 790 yards as a 2nd year receiver in a gimmick offense. Could you explain to me what’s bad about that?

I think we get spoiled off the Randy Moss’ and Calvin Johnson’s and Larry Fitzgerald’s of the world. But what Ginn did last year was above average in comparison to most WRs in that situation.

  69. avatar igs says:

As for Gholston – I also watched him a lot in college – there was nothing about him in college that said talented LB. There was a lot that said, with some serious development he could be a dominant 4-3 DE. That’s all. If anybody could make him a successful LB, I gotta tell you, Rex Ryan is the right guy. But if you watch, say Brian Orakpo, you see the skills that could transition inot a good OLB in the NFL. I never saw that with Gholston, which is why I thought it was a terrible pick at 6. He should’ve been, at best, a late 1st rounder, or raider.

  70. avatar Joe in Orlando says:

Nevertheless, igs, what I said is true: the overwhelming majority of people who watch Ginn the most consider him a disappointment. This includes Miami fans, media, and based on his diminshing playing time, the Dolphins coaching staff.

He may turn out to be good one day, just as Gholston might, but to state that he’s a “good young WR” is just as silly as saying Gholston is a “good young LB”. Sorry.

  71. avatar reality jet fan says:

calvin pace insulting chad henne learn how to lose and take it like a man.

  72. avatar starz31 says:

i dont think calvin pace should be taking tips on how to lose from posters who are ready to throw up their hands and cry same ole jets.

  73. avatar reality jet fan says:

the team got beat down and still talking trash cmon learn how to lose with class.

  74. avatar reality jet fan says:

so only real fans think everything is great and this is our year

  75. avatar igs says:

Joe, I gotta disagree. And, as I said, Ginn’s 2nd year stats already prove that he is a good WR. Unlike Gholston, who I would call a good young athlete, but not yet a good OLB. And there are also the stats to prove that. Not a good point.

  76. avatar reality jet fan says:

as usual the kool aid drinkers minimize a huge loss ,make excuses for horrible coaching and a big mouth defense that got smackd in the face

  77. avatar JesusRevis says:

    igs,

Once again you decide to insult me rather than respond to my point, which is why you are bushleague. Your knowledge of football is poor and you choose to display that day in and day out on this site. No one ever agrees with you for a reason. Youre a troll and nothing more.

  78. avatar reality jet fan says:

if there is a secret to staying positive please share it

  79. avatar JesusRevis says:

    reality jet fan,

the jets are 3-2 and technically in first place in the division since they beat the pats. We have 3 very winnable games before our bye and our newly acquired WR looked like a stud last night. Not a secret, but a little optimism never hurts

  80. avatar reality jet fan says:

    u right jesusrevis

  81. avatar igs says:

    Revis,

You’re a caveman masquerading as, well, a caveman. There isn’t much of a point to your post, it just corrected my grammar, which I find insulting and really stupid when on a blog post. ANd the point about Ginn, if you don’t respect the angle of building through the draft than you don’t respect it, case closed. Go grab your Colt 45 dummy.

  82. avatar igs says:

realtiy, I think the point you’re missing is that this offense and defense got put together this year. And they played above in beyond against some teams that, themselves continue to vastly underachieve. When they played a more unothodox team, such as the Dolphins are, a lot of the inexperience for Rex against the wildcat, and for the players in Rex’s system got exposed. You should minimalize this loss. It’s weak 5. The team deserves some time to gel.

  83. avatar Joe in Orlando says:

igs, you are free to disagree with the fans, media and coaching staff of the Dolphins on Ginn’s level of play. You’re just in a very slim minority (at best), so don’t expect people to take you seriously when you say the things you do about Ginn. :-)

  84. avatar starz31 says:

    Reality jet fan…
the secret to staying positive is staying real. I don’t let my expectations grow rampant after 1 game, or 2 games, or just 5 weeks into the season. We have a better grasp of our team now than we did after we beat Houston. You sound like someone who was just personally insulted, like what you just heard is coming as a shock to you.

This team has a rookie coach and, now this is the big factor, a rookie QB. That fact alone, is why I don’t think this is our year. I wont guarantee that, b/c in this league, anything can happen. I look at the season as a whole, and just like with MLB, you just gotta get to the playoffs. B/c once there, anything can happen. A rookie QB in the playoffs doesnt give me confidence, but I know we have a lot of talent on defense and we can handle high-powered offenses. Right now, we have a problem with run-oriented teams. I’m just not ready to give up and scream like Chicken Little. I believe in the coaches we have, and the talent that we have. I think they will rebound strongly. But we are an inexperienced “team”. lots of new faces and new schemes. I’m just realistic man. Contenders aren’t built overnight. But I like where we are, and where we are headed, so I’m not going to cry over spilt milk.

  85. avatar igs says:

Joe, I’m okay with that. But as I said earlier, I also have stats on my side. So that slim minority aint as slim as it seems.

  86. avatar JesusRevis says:

    igs,

you dont know me so I dont know why you continue to make generalizations about me and insult me. I corrected your spelling because I find it odd that someone who masqueardes as a Jet fan doesnt know the spelling of KRIS Jenkins. You can keep calling me names like dummy but youre just embarassing yourself. Take a chill pill pal

  87. avatar igs says:

    Revis,

Lol. Masquerade? Yeah, that’s what I’ve been doing all the past, near 2 decades of watching the jets, masquerading as a jets fan.

Dude, you’re a capital D-bag who obviously needs a friend and some healthy time outside. I’m not interested in your lame potshots.

  88. avatar Joe in Orlando says:

From the Miami Herald, after the Buffalo game:

“Ginn, meanwhile, spoke with a reporter about trying to continue improving even as his playing time is diminishing. Although Ginn started the game as he usually does, his snaps were cut considerably after an inconsistent performance the first three games. He finished this game with one reception for four yards.”

    Good young receiver.

The minority you are in is very much as slim as it seems. Pointing at one year’s worth of mediocre stats doesn’t change that.

  89. avatar JesusRevis says:

I really feel bad for you. You must have a lot of anger inside. I pity you.

Every thread is full with other posters disagreeing with you, yet you have an unprecedented amount of arrogance and confidence in what you say. I don’t need to defend myself, I know that people on this site have seen me posting for years and i’m perfectly comfortable with the amount of credability I believe I have. On the other hand, you’re constantly arguing back and forth with everyone on the site, because no one ever agrees with you. So I’m not going to get into all the name calling, I’d rather have respect than insult someone over the computer. Keep it to football, the name calling is childish.

  90. avatar igs says:

Joe, yep. Stats say it all for me, particularly in an offense like that. You remember what the run/pass ratio was for the game?

    Revis,

When you know your stuff, and you come to talk about it, you don’t need caveman insults and stupid remarks to convey them. I’m very confident in my ability to discuss football, whether my pov is popular or not. Listen fatso, if you want to talk about football let me know. Otherwise, keep my name out of your mouth.

  91. avatar JesusRevis says:

    Fatso?

    you amuse me

  92. avatar igs says:

Hey, you start with the insults. I just like to finish them.

  93. avatar JesusRevis says:

Do everyone a favor and explain how I started with the insults. I have not insulted you once

  94. avatar JesusRevis says:

“Perhaps you can quit your day job as a total loser to work as an English professor. That is if you’ve ever read a book in your life”

    that was the first insult

  95. avatar JesusRevis says:

I dont really care about the insults, because it’s not really offending me when you call me stuff like dummy, since im a college graduate from an extremely respected school, and I also have a great job. Or when you call me fatso, since I am 6″1 185 lbs of pure muscle, or when you tell me to read a book, since I read about 2-3 a month, or when you tell me I need friends, since I have plenty of friends.

They arent insults when they are completely false and have no basis whatsoever, so again, just keep it to football man, I didnt insult you once, I disagreed with your point on Ginn, if you dont like my opinion on Ginn, then argue it with stats or personal observations. But my weight, my social situation, my education or my preference for literature have nothing to do with it.

  96. avatar igs says:

No you corrected my grammar and spelling… on a blog. You started with the insults. BTW, I read more books in a week than you read in a month. And I can boast anything you can boast accept I’m bigger and stronger and more muscular.

  97. avatar JesusRevis says:

I didn’t realize you were so sensitive. I already told you why I corrected your spelling, its inexcusable for a jet fan to not know how Kris Jenkins first name is spelt. If correcting that spelling error is an insult then I did start with the insults, but anyone with half a brain knows that is not an insult.

Congrats on reading so many books, im so proud of you.

I’m sure youre unbelievably strong and muscular. Congrats man!!!!!!

  98. avatar igs says:

Oh, come on. You and I both know that not only is it stupid to correct someone’s grammar and spelling in an online forum such as this, but it’s a smug personal insult. Unless you really are the D-bag caveman that you come off as I don’t think that was accidentally an insult. As far as spelling names, there’s lots of player and I’m typing fast. I misspell plenty of names. Plenty of bloggers here do. I don’t go behind them and fix their spelling. I carry on the conversation.

  99. avatar JesusRevis says:

igs, I dont know why you are so offended by my first post, but we both know I didnt call you any names and that you were the one insulting me over and over again.

The insults are corny and childish, I don’t get why youre carrying on.

I would love to continue about Ginn, but you seem to prefer to insult me. If you care to talk football, on a football site, I’m at work til 6

  100. avatar igs says:

Guy, if you wanted simply to talk about Ginn, you would have come out, straight up, and asked. But you decided to open with a backhanded correction of my writing. Childish and psuedo-intellectual if you ask me.

  101. avatar JesusRevis says:

Oh well, cant say I didnt try.

  102. avatar igs says:

Yeah, and we all know what you’re ‘trying’ to call into question when you talk about name spelling also. So who’s attacking who here?

  103. avatar JesusRevis says:

I’m sorry, but any true Jet fan would never spell Kris Jenkins name “Chris”. You happy? I said it.

Getting back to Ginn, it’s clear you are a huge supporter of building through the draft which explains why you are applauding Miami for reaching on a wide receiver 2 years ago, who has not been consistenly productive, at all.

You ridiculed the Jets for trading up for Shonne Green, saying “the jets could have found talent at RB late in the draft”, mentioning players such as Rashad Jennings.

So why aren’t you using the same logic with Ginn? Or with WR’s in general? Couldnt the dolphins have found a WR later in the draft? And instead drafted a lineman which would have been the right move for a young team who is in a rebuilding stage? If you can get over the fact that I corrected your spelling and you choose to respond to FOOTBALL related conversations, then i’m looking forward to hearing from you.

  104. avatar igs says:

Okay, now we have some football on the table.

    1. Yes, when you’ve followed lots of players and you’re excited to discuss a topic you can spell the name wrong. Lots of people do it on this blog. And I know I give absolutely 0 consideration to exactly how a player’s name is spelled. Sorry man, just the facts.

    2. As far as Ginn, I don’t mind reaching on a player if you don’t give up too much to move and you think you can bring him in and make it happen, and it makes sense. Remember I was a big proponent of the Sanchez move. In general I’m also a big fan of Tanning-Bum’s free agent moves. I just think he could’ve chilled after the Sanchez trade.
Speaking of which, I beleive Rashad Jennings and Mike Goodson have both outproduced Shonne Green already. I know jennings for sure has, and Goodson did in the preseason. Louis Murphy the 4th round WR is, along with Zack Miller, the only bright spot in the Raiders offense. He’s produsing with Jamarcus Russell as his QB. They got that LSU connection.

You call Ginn inconsistent but it’s his 3rd year. Ad he’s in a wildcat first offense. Check the run/pass ratio from last night.

The dolphins did both. Grabbed a quality guy in the 1st round and got dpth with guys like hartline, Turner, etc. So please take time to understand my points before you knock them.

  105. avatar Bent says:

Thanks, let’s get back to football.

I appreciate JR not responding to the name calling, which was uncalled for.

  106. avatar igs says:

Bent, I would hope that you were intelligent enough to recognize that name calling is not the only way that a person could be insulting. It would seem to me that the proper statement would be that any insulting behavior is uncalled for, which would include chastisement and provoking language. I don’t see how the statements that JesusRevis has been making are ‘getting back to football. But hey, I guess we all have our biases.

  107. avatar Bent says:

igs – I’m sorry if you took offense at anything that was said and apologize if you thought I was being biased. I know it always causes issues when people have their football knowledge called into question too, so let’s not do that. As far as I’m concerned, I think you are both among the more knowledgeable posters we have here even if you don’t agree on everything, which is why I am prepared to let this stuff slide and have you both keep posting here. More bias, I know…

Regardless, let’s move past this. Cool?

  108. avatar igs says:

Bent, I very much appreciate that. Whenever you have engaged me on this blog it has been intelligently and knowledgeably. When I’m being a knucklehead I don’t mind being called a knucklehead. I just don’t want jesusRevis to come off looking like a victim because he didn’t hurl a direct insult, when in fact he hurled the first insult and continued to hurl them throughout the conversation.

  109. avatar JesusRevis says:

I wasnt intending to insult you by making grammar corrections. I’ve said that multiple times. I’ve tried to move past it but you continue to harp on it.

I’m not trying to come off like a victim, i’m just not into all the bickering, save the drama for the females.

I’m here to talk NY Jets football, thats what I do best.

As far as your point on Ginn, it’s still to early to tell what he will become but I personally didnt like the pick on draft day and I still dont like it. Same for the runningbacks, its not fair to judge Shonne Green or any rookie RB’s for that matter. I understand your preference for building through the draft, but the NFL draft is one of many ways that GM’s can improve their football teams. Trades, Free Agency and undrafted rookie signings have all been strong suits of Mike Tannenbaum. The Jets have just as many starters whom they drafted as any team in the league.
