On having Braylon Edwards on the field for the first time…

Was he out there (laughing)? Braylon’s accomplishments and what he’s done before he got here is very impressive. To see him get off to a good start like that, to see the chemistry that he and Mark (Sanchez) had, the ability to just get him involved in the game is a tribute to him, a tribute to how hard he has worked. It obviously speaks to how having similarity in the system coming from Cleveland gave him an advantage. It wasn’t like he had to learn a brand new system as it was in the case when Brett (Favre) came last year. He knew a lot of the things and that helped. We talked to him last week about his ability to elevate, go up and make plays. I think we saw that. The more that he gets comfortable with the system, the more we can move him around, (and) put him in different spots, that will cause more problems for the defense.

On Edwards making plays…

He makes really impressive plays. Obviously the catch down in the boundary on the third-and-21 is not what you game planned for. It was just a great throw and a great catch. That shows you the type of player he is. The best thing about it was the one he remembers the most is the one that he could have held on to, the deep ball they called PI (pass interference) on. We’re all happy he’s here.

On watching highlights of Edwards before he arrived…

I hadn’t really studied Braylon a whole lot. Just from watching from afar, the last couple of years we’ve played them, we’ve played Cleveland a bit. We kind of (said) ‘Mark, these are the kinds of things that he does well. Look at his ability to separate, look at how big he is, look at his range.’ (We) tried to get him comfortable with him. We believe in the me-to-you factor. It’s hard in a couple of days to get that comfortable with one another. When you watch Braylon make plays on film, it gives a quarterback who hasn’t thrown to you very much the confidence that the guy will go up and make plays for (him). Mark believes in him.

On if he calls the game differently with Edwards…

We’ve had a lot of very good receivers. This guy just poses different problems. This guy is real big. I can’t tell you that I would always call the play I called on third-and-21 and talked to Mark about doing what he did. So that was different. It opens up some possibilities that you maybe wouldn’t do. In that situation, in a good ball game maybe you call a conservative play and try to get a couple yards more and kick a field goal. It’s about having trust in your players, having trust in Mark. We as a staff have that.

On if he would have called the same play on third-and-21 without Edwards…

I can’t say I would have never called it, but in that situation, in that type of game I might have gone with a more conservative call.

On if he is unsettled with the wide receiver situation…

No. I don’t have time to worry about that. It’s a situation where you get a guy like Braylon and if you lose a guy or two then guys have to step up. We have a lot of good players on this offense. Usually I can’t get the ball to them all anyway. I think a guy like Wallace Wright, he’s been here for a long time, and if he has to answer the call there is no question in my mind that he will.

On if the wide receivers injuries change anything…

No, not really. We try to feature more two-receiver sets. For the most part we try to go with our plan and again, we weren’t sure if J-Co (Jerricho Cotchery) would play last week. He wanted to go and went and did some good things at half speed.

On David Clowney’s performance…

David’s been a guy who always seems to be understanding that he can help us. When he and Rex had a sit down he really listened and took it to heart. He’s doing a great job of preparing. We’ve wanted to get him involved. The last couple of weeks we have tried to feature some more plays for him. The things that he is becoming now, what you are beginning to see is that he is becoming a complete player. If you got a guy that is just fast and you put him in a game they just back up. Now you see him run blocking, you see us throwing screen to him, you see him making some plays in the two minute. That kind of opens up more doors because he is not seen as just a deep threat. I think you’ll continue to see us getting him the ball and him making big plays for us.

On getting Dustin Keller more involved…

Every game we have progressions. We have our checklist. It’s a good situation to be in. You’ve got your plays for Leon (Washington), you’ve got your plays for Braylon, J-Co (Jerricho Cotcher), plays for Dustin (Keller). Sometimes the progression doesn’t play out. There are some things that they did defensively, I have to give Miami credit. We tried to get him the ball on a couple of third down and longs, they doubled him. Mark had to come off of him. He is a big part of what we’re trying to do. He’s a guy that we can move around and put in a lot of different spots. He hasn’t had the productivity in the passing game, but I think he’s become a better player. I think that’s evident when you turn on the film in the running game. We all know what he can do in the passing game. It is just a matter of time. Hopefully it shows up this weekend.

On moving players around more…

It’s harder to double a guy when you don’t know where he is. We try to pride ourselves in moving people around, putting receivers in the backfield and things like that. That causes problems because you have to first off find him and try to double him at that point.

On why they haven’t used Clowney more in the first month…

It was one of those situations where Jerricho was playing very good, obviously. It was a situation where David had shown his speed in the preseason. There were little things that were being missed in the walk-thrus and practices. The passing game is all about details. One of the things David has done is cleaned those things up. We can move him around a lot of different spots now. It’s a credit to him. Other than those few things that he’s needed to clean up, there was no reason other than we were trying to get other guys involved.

On why Clowney still needs to clean things up…

We’ve moved him around. He was hurt last year for a little while. There’s just details. Him getting a feel for the details, him getting time with Mark has been good because there is a trust level. He’s a good player, he’s going to help us.

On Leon Washington not making a big play yet this season…

I think he’s been close on some. That’s what our running game has been, we’ve been close in a lot of areas. It’s maybe a block here or a target there by one of the offensive lineman or tight ends, it’s a read by the backs. We’ve played some pretty good run defenses. The last team we played was real good against the run and they’re pretty good tacklers. He’ll pop his share of runs, I have no doubt about that. He’ll pop his share of passes. The more you give him the ball the more you are going to make plays. That’s a big part of what we’re trying to do, give him the touches.

That seemed like a big crock of crap

Schott is so full of crap, his eyes are brown. These guys are not getting involved, because he stinks.

Whatever we do on offense is based on having lots of talent, not on some outstanding game plan that he thinks up. You want to see an outstanding game plan — watch the Dolphin game again. What they did to us was a thing of beauty. When was the last time you remember the Jets taking advantage of another team’s weaknesses. We can play a team that is rated last against the run and Schotty’s game plan is to throw all day.

When we were receiving the ball, to start the second half of the Dolphin game, if we would have scored on that drive to go up by two scores — it could have been a different game. It was really important to put up points on that drive. Schotty was so great adjusting at half time that, I believe, we went three and out.

We won’t win anything important, with this guy as OC.

WORST PLAY CALLING EVER, almost ended Brett’s career, now he is ruining Mark Sanchez’s career. FIRE HIM.
