Audible: Who’s Going Tomorrow?

by Corey Griffin on October 17th, 2009 at 3:49 pm

So the weather looks miserable, the team is coming off a deflating loss on Monday Night Football, and it’s a late start against an absolutely abysmal football team. All that said…

Who’s comin’ with me?!

Are you heading out to the Meadowlands tomorrow?

THE JETS QUIT ON ME LAST MONDAY NIGHT FOR THE LAST TIME, SO I AM FINALLY QUITTING ON THE JETS
    By The Ed(itor)

Last Monday night, the JETS had a huge game with the Miami Dolphins. A win would propel the JETS into 1st place in the AFC East and give the Fish a 1-4 record. JETS fans were worried that their Offense would score enough points for the JETS to win. But surely the JETS Defense would show up and dominate the Dolphins running game and make Miami one dimensional. Thus ensuring a JETS win. But instead, the “Same Old Loser JETS” showed up on Monday night. The Defense never showed up and thus turned a sure win into another typical loss by this sorry franchise. And possibly ruining this season for all JETS fans.

I have been a long suffering JETS fan for about 40 years. I watched their Super Bowl victory in 1969 and became a full fledged fan in the mid 1970’s. I became a season ticket holder in 1978. Thus I have been going to games and watching the JETS mostly lose for a lot of years. I have thousands of hours invested in this team by watching them on TV or attending their games. And for what?? I could have spent those hours volunteering at a non-profit and would be more fulfilled. The JETS leave you with that empty helpless feeling every year. But I kept on coming back with the hope that they would produce a winning product on the field and eventually get back to the Super Bowl. I even lobbied for the original and only Boss, George Steinbrenner to take over ownership of the team. But he was much too smart to take on this losing franchise.

After their initial success in 1969, the JETS have never been to the Super Bowl again. This will be the 40th year of JETS breaking my heart and I am fed up with their inconsistent and sometimes lackadaisical play of so called professional football players.

This year started with optimism with the hiring of Rex Ryan. But things went quickly down the hill as Woody The Weasel announced exorbitant PSL fees for the right to purchase tickets to his new stadium which none of the JETS fans wanted. Woody wanted the new stadium so he could personally earn an additional $75 million a year. Woody didn’t care about the JETS long suffering fans. All he wanted to do was line his pockets with more cash. So despite being a season ticket holder for 30 years, I either had to pay his exorbitant PSL fees which they had the audacity to call an investment or be relegated to the upper deck. Now the upper deck would be fine in good weather, but in bad weather it would be better to stay at home. And of course there were the two worthless so called exhibition games you had to pay full price for. Woody, because of greed, did not build a dome on his stadium. At $300 million, Woody could have paid for the dome in 4 years. But Woody opted for cash in his pocket instead of convenience of his fans. At last look, even Jerry Jones build a dome on his new stadium.

Then there was the move to New Jersey which included state of the art practice facilities. But Woody didn’t build any stands and instead of training in New Jersey, he sent the team to up state New York. I was planning on taking my grand kids to see the JETS in Florham Park, but instead that turned into a FloP.

Monday’s night’s game was the last straw for me. You can only take so much from an owner who doesn’t care about the team’s long term fans and the players who take the money and don’t show up to play. So after 30 years as a season ticket holder, I am quitting the JETS before they have another opportunity to quit on their fans and me.

Seeing this one time was enough. Ed, if you are done with the team, get off the site. Sec 139 see you tomorrow.

  11. avatar Tos9987 says:

Ill be there sec 101 cant wait

  12. avatar miketaliaferro says:

    Ed,

I agree with many of your points overall, however Mikey has one here, too. The comment alone would have been a strong enough statement. Don’t know if we needed the re-re-posting.

  13. avatar Joe B. says:

    Ed, you’re pathetic.

  14. avatar Electric Ham says:

Hey editor….. good for you now suck a goat… LETS GO JETS!!!! GET LOUD BABY

  15. avatar Mike from Poughkeepsie says:

    section 127.. okay okay

  16. avatar StvDoe says:

    Ed(itor),

After you posted this yesterday there were many, many responses to your tirade. If you read them, (which I’m confident you did), then you know they were overwhelmingly negative with a sprinkling of sympathy.

So why the return? Are you hoping to cause a groundswell of revolt? Do you think you can encourage the Jet faithful to rise up against “Woody the weasel”?

    If you are, it’s a fool’s errand.

We’re here to stay. Neither the modern day NFL economic fact of PSLs, nor our team’s spotty history of success, will deter we Jet fans from supporting our team.

As I said before, I’m sorry to see any Jet fan abandon our team. But if, as you’ve stated, you are doing so, then do so. There’s no need to belabor your point amongst those of us who remain faithful.

  30. avatar Drew says:

I’ll be there, prolly a must win.

  31. avatar Jason says:

Even if I had tickets I wouldn’t go. I once went to a Jets game in this type of weather (the only game i’ve ever been to) and it was the most miserable experience of my life. And I was sitting on the 40 yard line about 20 rows up from the field.

Absolutely miserable with the weather and the rain and the cold.

Plus, football is a sport that’s much better seen at home and not in person.

  32. avatar Green Lantern says:

Julius Peppers is available to…just throwing that out into these comments.

  33. avatar GANGGREEN says:

Green Lantern, Cool that he is availible but how we going to afford him…

  34. avatar kc. says:

I almost have to believe that todays game vs the BILLS is probably a MUST win. I know “mathematically” its NOT,but in REALITY,it IS.

  35. avatar Joe B. says:

    Jason – You’re a sissy.

  36. avatar Bent says:

Lantern – Are you suggesting the jets go after Peppers?

They have no cap room. Peppers is earning over $1m per game.

  37. avatar Wise Old Jet Fan says:

Good luck out there guys, make us proud, I truly respect anyone that shows up today, only the hard cores will attend, which includes just about everyone that makes noise anyway so should be as loud as ever.

A true test for the offensive line today, the game rest with them, assuming of course Sanchez is capable of holding onto the ball in the rain and cold, which I believe he is.

Specifically, Brick must contain Shobel, one of the best pure pass rushers in the league. IF Brick wants to make the pro bowls he needs to hold his own vs. a player that has historically made him loook bad.

Glad they cut someone after that perfrmance last week, and hope they gives some reps to the kids unlike the last regime. I know they can’t cut him but Gholston should be incactive if there is any justice.

Westerman, Murrel, Pat all have earned reps and if Rex is a man of his word, that the best players play, they should get a full shot to show they are better than teh underperforming Douglass, Ellis (impacted by injury), Pouha, Pace (if he sucks again) and Gholston.

  38. avatar scott says:

    ITS TOO COLD OUT!

    But im still going. F5.

  39. avatar Tos9987 says:

Where did you hear about peppers being avalable ? I cant find it anywhere .

Hope the patriots dont scoop him up .

  40. avatar Green Lantern says:

I know I was just hoping to stir something up.

  41. avatar Bent says:

The Pats wouldn’t be able to afford him either.

However, since the Panthers are pretty much out of playoff contention already, have no first rounder next year (SF) and are unlikely to retain him next year, he’d better be available for a 1st round pick otherwise they aren’t very smart in the Panthers front office.

He’d need to go to a team way under the cap that finds themselves in contention, despite not even attempting to maximize their resources in the offseason. I’m not sure how many teams fit that description, but none of them are in the AFC East, as far as I can see.

  42. avatar Matt says:

I woke up this morning and it is raining, its going to be freezing and i broke my finger a few days ago so i can’t clap anyway….BUT I’LL STILL BE THERE REPRESENTING SEC. 118 WITH MY BIG ASS GREEN JET COAT AND A HAT TO MATCH! LETS GO JETS!!!!!

  43. avatar John R says:

Yes. Sec 320. Last game missed was Kotite’s last game.

  44. avatar e_man says:

I’m dying that I’m missing the game. I traded in the rain for an IT conference in Sunny FL. Now I need to go find me a bar that’s playing the game! Have one for me guys.
