Daily Links: Cold n’ Wet Edition
Posted on October 17th, 2009 by Corey Griffin
In case you didn’t know it was football season, the Weather Channel icon on my desktop reads 42 degrees. Oh, and it’s going to be just as cold tomorrow — and rainy too. For those of you heading out to the Meadowlands Sunday (myself included), it’s not going to be a pleasant gameday experience. Unless of course you’re imbibing some fine spirits and the Jets win by 30 — it’ll be much better then.
- The farm system’s Browns’ Josh Cribbs is unhappy with being in Cleveland his contract. We could probably get him for Wallace Wright and a 2013 conditional pick, right?
- Tim Graham breaks it down pretty simply: If the New York Jets’ defense doesn’t feast on the Buffalo Bills, then Rex Ryan needs to re-examine his troops.
- Maybe it’s a good thing John Riggins didn’t finish his career with the Jets?
- Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith are going to talk to Congress about the biggest non-labor issue facing the league right now: head injuries and brain damage.
- For those of you interested in getting rid of Vernon Gholston, the Gaines Adams deal is a case-and-point example of how it’s not exactly a cost-effective transaction.
- Kris Jenkins is ready to get down and dirty come Sunday.

Corey:
How is that for selective reporting!!. What about the true side of the article that ” He truly loves Cleveland, has a great relationship with Mangini and is committed to the team players part. Those parts “happened” to be left out. True vulture journalism !
Read here for true reporting: http://www.ohio.com/sports/browns/64647267.html#
And was also ” forgot” to mention that Cribbs has THREE (3) years left on his contract, where Leon has only one !!
Cory;
See what I mean about selective (bias) reporting by the media sharks ! Case in point:
Why is it the last year, in difficult times it was …”MANGINI MUST BE FIRED !!
But with Rex is….”the troops need to be re-examined “
Hank,
Because last year was Mangini’s 3rd year and the team collapsed from 8-3 to 9-7. Rex is 3-2 and in first place. Why are you trying to compare the two situations?
Hank, Cribbs said he was unhappy with his contract. In the offseason its more about the amount then how many years left.
Brendan:
You are right, it’s not the same situation. But my point is that the media started all the hate on Mangini from the first moment they tried to get “Juicy” information and they couldn’t. With rex, it’s the opposite.
Same thing in Cleveland. A few old timers, media scribes had inside ( anonymous) informants and Mangini fired them all. Now 99% of the media hates him and continue to add more fuel to the loosing culture.
Green Lantern:
First question: Did you jump to the site I posted, and did you read it?
Because if you did read it , you’ll notice that it totally contradicts the headline above in that he doesn’t WANT or WILL be traded.
Also, Mangini will not re-nogotiate nor disccuss re- negotiation with contracts that have one or more yoears left. It set for BAD precedent. Only on specific case, (Rhodes) he will extend a contract at seasons end and only if the player absolutely proves that he deserves it. Remember Cribb’s contract runs thru 20012.
Now, an aside question: Why would the Jets take on ONE MORE contract problem when they haven’t resolved their own in Leon Whashingtons? And how about Edwards?
