Audible: What’s the offense without J-Cotch?
Posted on October 18th, 2009 by Corey Griffin
The past two weeks we’ve seen what injuries can do to limit the Jets’ offense, but now we’re seeing it affect the offensive side of the ball. With wide recievers Jerricho Cotchery and Brad Smith likely out today vs. Buffalo, what do you expect out of the offense?

Thomas Jones up the middle for a gain of one.
Quick short passes to Keller, Leon and Woodhead.
Run distribution should be as follows
Jones: 12
Leon: 10
Greene: 6
And please, no double reverses in the rain
The Bills actually do good against the pass.So we need our run game to come back to us please. If they stack the box we have braylon to make them pay hopefully.
How about some “war machine” today.
It was not very subtle but nonetheless I am not seen many comments about the change in strategy last week.
They changed from schotty’s smokescreen based west coast offense to a Callahan Raider power running game with the occasional shot downfield off play action, which hopefully will be the offense going forward now that they have an actual downfield threat.
Send Clowney and Braylon long using different routes each time, to make the defense worry about the whole field. Then put the ball in the hands of Jones running it, and passing it underneath to Washington, Keller, and Woodhead to try and break one. Sooner or later the long pass will be there, but the meat and potatoes should come the run and short SAFE passes to people who could light it up.
The last time we played in wet weather, Sanchez had a tough time holding on to the ball.
So did the other team….
It was more line only that Mouton guy. He had a fumbling problem the week before.
More importantly, Sanchez is the one that has to throw the ball. I remember 2 plays where there was no pressure, he went back to pass and the ball just slipped out of his hand on the throw.
They are going to run more especially if we are getting rain. I would like to see more Greene and Leon and less Jones. I also agree with Ronnie… We are going to see quick dump offs to backs and TEs. Maybe 1 or 2 deep to Braylon or Clowney.
We have to see early on if they are going to double team either Edwards or Clowney when they go deep. The one that’s in single coverage should be on the receiving end of a deep pass.
Interesting note: Schefter notes on his twitter the Jets may trade Marques Douglas- doesn’t say what we would get in return. Pass rusher perhaps??
Douglass has been been invisible.
I think we need a run stopping lineman, not a pass rusher.
Our D has looked dominant against pass-heavy offenses and terrible against the miami rushing attack.
So lets do something to help our run stopping game rather than pass rushing.
If we do trade Douglas, its probably for a draft pick next year. I think Ryan wants to play Pouha at the end more often.
But this doesn’t make sense, we just released Green.
Clowney and Keller have to step up in J Co’s absence. Braylon is the #1 go-to guy now. After last week, I dont think anyone would have a problem with that.
But like others have said, run the ball. If we can get a MIX of formations using TJ, Leon and Greene we should be alright. We cant just run TJ with a fullback, a tight end and two wideouts. He has to get the ball in every kind of formation. Also, test the edges. We run right at everyone all the time. Lets test the perimeter.
Bottom line is this is a winnable game. We are better in all 3 phases,(man just sounded like Mangini there…barf). I think this game is gonna look alot like the Texans game.
With Howard Green gone I would look for a big body in the middle via trade. You can bet Rex was pretty mad about last week and won’t let that happen again. Pace needs to improve as he was horrendus last week. (I’ll give the benefit of the doubt since it was his first game back).
The question is: who will Trader Mike taget next as that big clogging runstopper in the middle next to Jenks?
To answer the question above: run, run and run some more. Look for all backs to contribute today (including Woodhead).
Oh yea and the Saints are DESTROYING the Giants right now. We took one on the chin against Miami last week and Francesca killed us and Rex.He also anointed the Giants God’s gift to football
Thats why even as bad on D as we were last week, I truly believe it was an aberration. We got WildCat’d. Doc K is right though, Pace played his worst game as a Jet last week but gets a pass bc of the rust factor. We need to get him going bc with the talent around him on this D, he can be like a Terrell Suggs. The guy has that kind of talent. That’s why this week we have to throw Buffalo a beating on the defensive side so we can get back on track. Gotta get a win today
im pretty sure after sanchez’s struggle in the rain against the titans the coaching staff attempted to fix the problem in practice
Yeah Eddie I think this just shows how last week was more of an aberration than anything- we only gave up 10 points to Brees the whole game on defense and the Giants gave up 21 in the first half!
Mel
I know man, the Saints are going up and down the field on the Giants D. I really think that against most traditional NFL style offenses our D can stand up to anyone. Gotta prove it again today at 4:15…
Danny Woodhead- 5”9 200
Wayne Chrebet 5”10 180
both undrafted
Maybe Woodhead could make the transaction?
Cotch would be missed, if he sits out but, we have no shortage of weapons. It took all of one week, for us to see that Braylon is the missing link we all have been hoping for. We need an Offensive Coordinator who puts Sanchez in a comfort zone, and utilizes all of our weapons, to take advantage of the other teams weaknesses.
We had the division leading rusher, last season. Schotzy has the same team as last year, plus Shonn Greene and Sanchez, and he actually said that it would take five or six weeks for the running game to come together. Schotzy has no excuses — sixth game, in the rain, against Bufflao with three new backers — RUN IT, YOU MORON!
the offense sucked without him
