The Complete Clown?

by Bassett on October 18th, 2009 at 9:59 am

theclown.jpgDavid Clowney, was asked to step into a more prominent role last weekend what with Jerricho Cotchery limited for the Dolphins game and Brad Smith injured in-game and he came through well for the Jets. After a bumpy start of the season stemming from his benching due to his Twitter-ings, Clowney has only responded positively, culminating in last week’s game against the Dolphins. With more reps in the game, Clowney had four catches for 72 yards (with the one 53 bomb worked in there) maybe the Jets are starting to feel like “The Clown” can become a more consistent option in the Jets passing game?

When asked about him on Friday, Rex had good things to say about Clowney. “(I see) great vertical speed,” Rex stated. “He’s doing a great job. I think [Wide Receivers Coach] Henry Ellard has done an excellent job with him. I think he is more than just a speed guy. He has a chance to develop into a good receiver. The first thing you notice when you think of David Clowney is blow-by speed.”

Translation, he’s got the physical talents, now he just needs to work to develop them and he’s coming along, but he’s got room to grow. If Cotchery is limited again, could this be another good chance for The Clown to make an appearance?

He looked like the real deal on Monday night. Many of us have said before that he looks like he has decent hands too. I want J.Co in there, but this may end up being a bright spot, because maybe we finally get to see what the Clown can do. I think he can be a huge asset to this team. Now all of a sudden you have J.Co, Edwards, and Clowney as serious threats, it changes defenses gameplans.

if he can prove he can not only consistantly be a deep threat, but also be a reliable medim to short range reciever, then i think weve got a serious arsenal of weapons for franchez to play with.

I thought this was going to be another Chad Henne article for a moment.

As Han Solo once said “Great kid, don’t get cocky”.

I thought he did well on Monday.Lets see how he blocks, because this should be a pound the rock game. Even though we have not really been able to shine at that yet.I do expect it today.I think Braylon and Clowney should be able to give defenses a hard time.

Pound the rock then throw deep or throw deep then pound the rock. That is the question.

This kid can play as I have been saying for months. The Jets need to stretch the field and open up the middle, Clowney has the speed and the hands to get it done.

    Send in the Clown!

I was not entirely unimpressed with Clowney’s blocking in preseason. Anyone else?

  7. avatar levi says:

He does ok at blocking. Just lacks the size really but the effort is there.

All of a sudden the Jets have an interesting mix at receiver. With Edwards, Clowney, J-Co (when healthy), and Keller, there are a lot of different skill sets out there. Throw in Leon out of the backfield (and even Brad Smith) and the passing game has a lot of potential. And of course who can forget the X-factor – Danny Woodhead. Incredible!

I want to see the Clown running route but I want to see Woodhead catching passes. Go Woodhead…….

  10. avatar e_man says:

David has the blow-up speed, but he needs that route running that JCo has… It seems he goes 100% all the time, and Clowney can go 70% and still blow by guys. If and when he works on the running route, he’s going to be something.

  11. avatar Zartan says:

why hasnt J-Co worked with Clowney the way Coles did for him.

  12. avatar Harvlis says:

Big surprise — Clowney can get deep on teams. Schotty keeps wasting our talent. He needs to go.
    Seen Keller lately?
