In an article in the Daily News, Damien Woody tells the press that the line is willing to take some of the load off of Mark Sanchez’s shoulders by running the ball more.
Cimini notes in the article that the Jets have been changing their line scheme this season.
The Jets are employing more zone-blocking than last season, and zone blocking requires more coordination than man-to-man. That could be one of the reasons for the slow start over the first five games. Now, with Sanchez a turnover machine, the plan is to lean on the running game more than ever. “If that means putting the pressure on us and the running backs, that’s what we have to do,” Woody said.
It’s a good point. It makes sense that Callahan would turn the scheme to more zone-blocking eventually, but I think that might have contributed to the slow start for the running game. After last week, things seem to be working, let’s see if it can continue for the Jets in the coming weeks.

Denver’s running backs ran for 1200 yds plus a year out of this zone blocking technique..Good thinking Callan and Schott..Now if they can only be consistent with it we may win some games…Sanchez needs to stop thinking he’s superman and rely on this running game and some play action…

Bassett:
Have you been able to find some sort of statistical analysis about Sanchez and Braylon Edwards?
Specifically, despite his drawing nearly constant double-coverage, it seemed like Sanchez had stopped going through his progressions and was just hucking it up to the area of Edwards, hoping he’d make a big play, even in nearly impossible situations.
How many of his INT’s were intended for Edwards? It appeared to me that he was trying to force it, and before Edwards came, I was kinda impressed at his reading progressions, taking into account of course that he is a rookie.
I also noticed that after facing a little adversity, Sanchez’s FOOTWORK seeme to be way off, and he was just looking antsy and less fluid with his feet.

Wasn’t this suppose to be the whole point from the beginning? “Ground and Pound”
Sanchez wasn’t asked to do much the first 3 weeks and that’s what it should have been the past 3 weeks as well

Now if they will only give Leon more carries

DSMizzle…I know they targeted Keller 10 times that game. And one of his picks was intended for Dustin on a corner route on the sideline, just under threw him, defender was waiting for it

starz31: I know they targetted Keller a sufficient number of times. Sanchez wasn’t very accurate and Keller had a few drops.
That being said, I still think Sanchez has been trying to force it to Edwards rather than checking down.

I can see it now, mark my words. Schotty is going to run the ball constantly during the first half…….of course Oakland knows this and is going to stack the box and neutralize it. After not converting about eight times on third down and being down seven (probably early in the third) it is going to become glaringly obvious that running is no longer effective and that we need to throw the ball. Of course once Schotty realizes this so too does Oakland, and they’re going to be ready for it. At this point Oakland can also smell a victory so they’re going to be playing hard. Now, Sanchez is going to be throwing into a cover 2 spy defense, it’s going to look as if he’s forcing the ball, and ultimately bad things are going to happen.
If Schotty was smart he would not wait until he absolutely had to to call a pass play. And he would not call Curl routes that can be easily picked. He will also warn Sanchez that the D is going to be doubling Edwards. Perhaps throwing to Clowney on a deep post while Edwards is running a shallower post and taking the attention would be a smarter call.
I’m simply not a fan of Schotty, I just think he doesn’t get it too often. -
I really wouldn’t mind Callahan as offensive coordinator over Schottenheimer. Seems like a much more thorough, rigorous and thoughtful guy. Better than the guy that’s trying to reinvent the wheel but doesn’t truly know how the wheel works.
Anyone else think Jim Zorn might be an interesting prospect to look at as an offensive coordinator next year?

Lafflin sad and scary how easy it is to envision this weeks game playing out exactly that way. Schotty is horrible. Guys on Sirius were marveling at how in Denvers system there are always guys running open and that their adjustments are so good that the broncos outscore their opponents 70 – 10 or something in the second half. Unlike our offense where no ne can get open and we make few adjustments. Just depressing really. I hope we get it together this weekend but am not confident after the past few weeks. Go Jets!

Well I think the whole running game needs to be there. This has tyo be a constant thing. I think the whole idea as I understood was to run the ball more often and have Sanchez throw more high percentage throws and play actions to (a) get his confidence back up and (b) because he is a rookie, and he needs time to develop. We have this three headed monster supposedly with Jones, Leon and Green…Lets use it to our advantage LETS GO!!

im trying to figure out what happend to the screen plays to leon. 0-none. its funny though when we had penny thats all we can do now that we have a ROOKIE qb now we cant find em any more. terrible preperation for a ROOKIE qb. and why is leon not going in motion and posing as a wr and catching him for some quick throws . idunno man. rex thought that big talk was gonna back him up and it work for three games. one reporter asked him if he remebered what he said about miami and he actually forgot . its funny cause i bet miami circled that jet game on thier calender

Maybe something B Schott should have thought about somewhere between us getting 300+ yards rushing and Sanchez’s 3rd INT.
Play to our strengths……what a great idea.
Unbelievable!!
