On the opportunity to start…

I’m excited to go out there and get a win. I know circumstances have put me in a situation where it’s been kind of highlighted a little bit more. It’s not really anything new. I have played some nose tackle. Me and Kris (Jenkins) used to play left and right situations. The starting situation, I think I started (four) of the last six games. I don’t think anything is new.

On the pressure on the defensive line without Kris Jenkins…

Kris Jenkins is a humongous player. He’s a four-time Pro Bowl player. He is an individual that has a presence. You can’t not feel the effects of somebody like that. The best thing that I can do is not become a Kris Jenkins but, become the best Sione that I can be. The only thing that I will try to parallel or mirror of Kris Jenkins is his effect in the middle, his ability to clog the middle. His ability to be disruptive, to strike and to get off and reestablish the line of scrimmage. That outcome is definitely what I want, but to do it the way that Kris Jenkins does, like manhandling people, I have to probably stay in the diner a little bit more and to stay in the weight room a little bit more to become massive and powerful like Kris. The outcome is definitely something I look to mimic and copy, probably in more of a technical way, in my terms.

On replacing Kris Jenkins…

His play is huge. To come in and say you are going to replace Jenkins is not the case. The case is to come in here and be a part of the puzzle of the defense and be effective at it and make the plays that I need to make.

“The best thing that I can do is not become a Kris Jenkins but, become the best Sione that I can be.” – Sounds like a self-help tape.

Honestly, while it obviously really sucks that we lost Jenkins, Sione is a more capable backup than he’s been given credit for. The team will have to scheme around the lack of Jenkins, but we’ll be alright.

We’re all rooting for you, Pouha!
Be all you can be, man.

I find it hard to believe he didn’t devour a single sandwich during that whole exchange.

I recall my Dad talking about Pouha when he was at Utah and watching him a bowl game just demolish the other team and be a totally dominant player. Hopefully that’s the player he can become again…

Maybe they can play the 4-3 more often. Sundays game might be the season or us. At 5-3 we will have a better chance to finish at 10-6.
