Link: Loss of fat man creates huge opportunity

An injury to Kris Jenkins can the death knell in an otherwise promising season, let alone one which is one losst to the Raiders from coming completely off the tracks. Still, when you lose a man of Jenkins’ girth and skill, it creates a chance for someone else to make a large impact (pun intended).

The key players to do the stemming are Sione Pouha, Mike DeVito and Howard Green — all wide-body players who will rotate in and attempt to fill Jenkins’ large shoes.

Asked to describe who he is, Pouha said, “Somebody that would be reckless, cause havoc. . . . Somebody that would be disruptive. . . . Somewhat similar to what Kris Jenkins does but in Sione’s own style. Same outcome as Jenkins but in my own little way.”

Linebacker Bart Scott recalled getting his first opportunity to shine on defense and shed his reputation as only a special teams-only player in Baltimore.

“I wouldn’t be standing here right now and you guys [reporters] wouldn’t even care who I was if Ray Lewis didn’t blow his hammy out in 2005,” Scott said. “I would never have been discovered, I would never have gotten the opportunity, I’d have labeled a special teams player.

Bart Scott makes a great point. Sometimes injuries can pave the way for an unknwown commodity to step into the spotlight. Green, Pouha and DeVito certainly have their work cut out for them but they all have ability and a chance to make an impact. I’m very interested to see DeVito specifically. After his extension earlier this season, it’s clear the Jets have faith in his talent, so let’s see what he can do.

Pouha is more suited for the 4-3 than the 3-4.
It’s impossible to replace someone like Jenkins. However, maybe we can turn into a speed defense. More likely to cause turnovers that way.

I liked DeVito the best out of the three and have liked his development since Mangini got him as an UFA in ’07.

He has the best motor and the most upside. can’t wait to see what he does with a full shot !!!
