This what we have to do to protect our kid Qb. This si what we should have done against the Bills.
There are going to be times when we need Sanchez to win us a game. the last 2 weeks were not one of those times.
As happy as i am about the blowout it almost annoys me that this wasnt the same result for last week.
i said this before the season. B -Schott is trying to get a head coaching job. He reminds me of when S Payton was with the Giants OC. He has all of these ideas to design creative plays but he has an OL and RB’s to dominate games.
You dont get HC jobs as a OC if you run the ball 50 times a game. he is his own worst enemy sometimes.
in saying that he did what he had to do yesterday. I was waiting for him to get off of the run to call a few PA passes just to mix it up but to his credit he getting ramming it home……
I think its pretty clear Rex basically called the offense for this game. He definitely handcuffed Schotty. That was not a Schotty game, and look at the result? Run the ball 50 times, run it till it is proven to be stopped.
I think the Raider run numbers were skewed a bit by the big scrambles that Gradkowski had — which you’d give up rather than TDs. Fargas also had some big runs when most teams would be passing to get back into the game.
The most impressive thing to me was when at the end of the game with seemingly nothing to play for but a shutout, they held a fairly good running team out of the endzone. That was inspired play, and hopefully a preview or this week vs. Miami.
NOT TO ROCK THE BOAT. HE SHOULDVE RAN THE BALL MORE AGAINST THE BILLS. IF HE KNEW HOW GOOD THEY WERE HE WOULD’VE RAN IT MORE. HE WAS INTERVIEWED YESTERDAY AND HE LOOKED SURPRISED WHEN HE SAID IT. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD RUN THE BALL 60-65 PERCENT OF THEIMES. LIKE BACK I NTHE PARCELLS YEARS.
Still on the Bills game? That was 2 weeks ago. We run the ball 59% of the time, for the 3rd best average ypc and the most yards per game. Enough of this ‘we don’t run the ball enough’ nonsense. WE JUST HAD TWO 300 YARD GAMES IN A ROW>
With a rookie QB we didn’t run the ball often enough. Every time he faked the run he faked no one out. LBs just dropped back. Now when he fakes the run the LBs will stay and respect the run!
-The Bills game was HUGE. Sanchez kept throwing interceptions. Like this weeks game. We cannot lose this game. We were’nt the best running team vs the Bills. Lets get 300 yrds this week. And hold the ball for 35-40 minutes of the game.
You just said it best. We weren’t the best running team against the Bills. Which means we were getting 2-3 yards on a lottttt of runs and were in a lot of 3rd and 6 or more situations. They had to pass in those situations.
But to say we don’t run the ball enough is just plain wrong. We’re the #1 rushing team in the league. Everyone likes to bring up Big Ben’s Steelers, and for good reason. Well, right now the Jets are out-rushing them on a per-game average. Perception vs. reality.
2 games ago we weren’t and should’ve been. We rarely ran the ball on 2nd down back then. After a short run we would then pass. Usually it would be incomplete. Then we would get stuck with a third and long and have no choice but throw. We need to start running on first and second downs. We have the linemen to do it. When we had Martin we would run a draw on 3rd and 12-15 and get a first down. How many screens have the Jets ran this year? It all starts with the run!!!
Those draws were the Paul Hackett special. They never worked, don’t know what runs you’re remembering.
In the Bills game, which we shouldn’t even bother talking about, we ran the ball at a 60/40 clip (right in your little range of success) and almost set a franchise record. Maybe, it was because we were getting 1 yard, then 2 yards and looking at 3rd and 7’s all game. 14 penalties also took us out of rushing situations. The Jets are a rushing team, and we rush the ball plenty.
Ints occurred three times on 1st down, once on 2nd and once on 4th.
Also, I note the criticism of Schottenheimer for calling too many runs on second down, but a review of the 2nd downs tells us:
They ran 11 times and passed 11 times, but when ahead in the second half they had a spell where they ran on 6 of 7 consecutive second downs.
Although you may think passing 11 times was too much, they went 4-9-68-1 int, which is actually better than all other throws (6-20-47-4 ints).
Running on second down wasn’t particularly successful, suggesting that the Bills stacked the box and wanted them to pass. When the Jets did run, they gained just 45 yards on 11 carries, just over 4 a pop…but 25 of these were on one play…the other 10 averaged just 2 yards a carry, so it’s pretty obvious that passing on 2nd down made more sense than you might think.
I am not a great Schottenheimer fan or apologist, but criticizing him for this game is off-base. He has called far worse gameplans than this.
So if we cant run on the Bills are we the best running team in the NFL?
-You are right about running 11 times. But we still need to run more when we are losing.thanks for the link. A good running team runs when they are down. What will we do when we get 3rd and 4th downs at the goal line. throw the ball?
This what we have to do to protect our kid Qb. This si what we should have done against the Bills.

Ricky & Ronnie vs. Thomas & Shonn
Bring it on.
the jets only let up 119 rushing yds but the catch is the raiders averaged 6.7 yds a carry not sure if thats gonna be good against miami

HE SHOULD REALLY BE APOLOGIZING TO REX FOR HAVING HIM ON A DOG LEASH WITH THE PLAY CALLS. HAVE ANOTHER DOG NEXT WEEK FOR ALL I CARE. JUST WIN!!!!!!
REX NOT KNOWING HOW GOOD HIS OFFENSIVE LINE IS OFFENSIVE TO THE LINEMEN HE HAS. HE IS SO FOCUSED ON DEFENSE THAT HE DIDNT GIVE CREDITED TO HIS O-LINE.
HOPEFULLY HE’S LEARNED A VALUABLE LESSON.
Jose,
????…umm what? Rex has said countless times he thinks this is the best line in football. What are you talking about?
NOT TO ROCK THE BOAT. HE SHOULDVE RAN THE BALL MORE AGAINST THE BILLS. IF HE KNEW HOW GOOD THEY WERE HE WOULD’VE RAN IT MORE. HE WAS INTERVIEWED YESTERDAY AND HE LOOKED SURPRISED WHEN HE SAID IT. I BELIEVE WE SHOULD RUN THE BALL 60-65 PERCENT OF THEIMES. LIKE BACK I NTHE PARCELLS YEARS.
-EXCUSE THE CAPS.
FYI- WE STILL CANT RUN A SCREEN!! WHY?

I’m curious to see how many running vs passing plays we’ve ran on second down. I’m thinking about 50%-55%passing.
Jose,

So now we are number one. Our opponenets have nothing to do with it? Lets do it again this weekend!
I’m curious to see on what downs Sanchez’s into occurred? You have that one? Are these stats located in any particular website
JOSE – here is the play by play for you to analyze:
