Link: MMQB Awards Shonn Greene

Peter King wrote in his MMQB column today that Shonn Greene, Jet rookie RB was his award winner for this week’s Offensive Player of the Week.

Offensive Player of the Week

Shonn Greene, RB, New York Jets

When Leon Washington was lost for the season with a broken leg at Oakland, Jets fans re-familiarized themselves with a player from Iowa they’d seen carry the ball only seven times this season. The Jets used most of their draft currency to move up for Mark Sanchez at No. 5, so the team’s first pick after him was Greene at 65, at the start of the third round. All Greene did at Oakland was rush 19 times for 144 yards, a 7.6-yard average, with two touchdowns. They’ll need him for the rest of the season to take the load off Thomas Jones.

King writes more dribs and drabs about the Jets, but it was good to see Greene get so honored for his peformance.

  1. Funny, but that was changed from the original — this morning when I read it, I know it said something to the effect of getting Greene “in the middle of the 3rd round.”

  2. He also neglects to mention that the Jets traded up AGAIN to get Greene and didn’t even have the #65 pick originally.

  3. Tanny seems to know who can play. It is Schotzy who doesn’t utilize the talent he is given. Isn’t it amazing that every time they throw to Clowney, good things happen. Schotzy has misused Leon Washington, Dustin Keller, Shonn Greene, David Clowney, Erik Ainge, and Brad Smith. I can’t wait, until Callahan takes over, on Offense.

  4. Shonn Greene is a beast!

  5. Schotty has misused Erik Ainge? How in the hell has he did that?

  6. lol @ the Ainge comment. would you prefer if he started last year over Favre perhaps?

  7. THRE IS NO REASON TO MAKE A BIG DEAL OUT OF THE RB’S. ITS OUT OFFENSIVE LINE THAT SHOULD GET ALL THE ACCOLADES.

  8. That’s nonsense Jose. Greene played his ass off.

  9. Greene looked good. Surprisingly fast for a big back. But Jose is not incorrect. There were some huge holes to run through..

  10. fwiw, Greene’s 144 yards rushing were the second most in Jets history for a rookie, besides Matt Snell’s 180 yards in 1964. The player he bumped to third place: Leon, who had 129 against Detroit in 2006.

  11. Of course the O-Line was great, but to say we shouldn’t make a big deal out of Greene’s performance is crazy.

  12. harvlis…

    agree 100% with you bro…

  13. Jack & Row,

We drafted Ainge to play QB. He was quite good in colllege, from a top college team. He has been treated like dogmeat, from the day we got him. He has shown, in pre-season, that he has the ability to get the job done. In my opinion, he played better than Kellen Clemens. In my post, what I am saying is that, Schotzy, who runs the Offense, has no judgement of talent. If Sanchez keeps playing poorly (and I include our last game as a poor one), Ainge should be given the opportunity to step in. He was here last year, knows the system, and he has what it takes to be a solid pro QB. You might disagree. Time will tell.

Last year, it took half the season, before Dustin Keller was thrown the ball. After three great games, Shotzy forgot to throw to him for the last four or five games. Did you see the catch that he made, against Oakland? Is this a guy who should be forgotten about?

Last year, Leon got to run the ball three times or less, in half of our games. One game, he touched the ball one time, for a sixty yard TD, and never saw it again.

Last year, Chansi Stuckey caught a TD in our first three games. He didn’t see the ball, until the last game of the year.

Shonn Greene looked great, in pre-season. Granted, he has been injured at times but, why do we have to wait until the seventh game to get some serious yards from him.

David Clowney burns the defense, almost every time they throw the ball to him. Where has he been?

Bottom line, Brian Schottenheimer has no judgement of talent and no ability to call plays. If we had a good OC, we could be undefeated. One day, Rex will wake up.
