Miami CB Allen out for the Season

by Bassett on October 27th, 2009 at 11:56 am

The Jets team aren’t the only ones beset by injuries. Starting Miami CB Will Allen is done for the season.

Will Allen’s season-ending knee injury will force the Miami Dolphins to go with two rookie cornerbacks beginning Sunday against the New York Jets.

Allen hurt the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee in the third quarter of the Dolphins’ loss to New Orleans and will require surgery, coach Tony Sparano said Monday.

He’ll be replaced in the lineup by 2009 first-round draft pick Vontae Davis. Second-round pick Sean Smith has been starting opposite Allen.

Sparano conceded he was unsure whether the rookies were ready to assume such a load.

“They need to mature really fast,” Sparano said. “I don’t know if they’re equipped for 10 games in a row of doing full-time duty without having Will Allen out there. But these guys are playing at pretty good levels.”

It’s never fun to see players get injured for any team, but the Jets have to be mindful of the loss that Miami’s sustained here. Miami’s secondary has allowed 73 points in the past two games, with pass defense as a crucial element to the team’s recent woes. The Jets are going to have to figure out how to attack the Dolphins pass defense, and how to do it while not putting the burden all on Sanchez’s shoulders.

    Hopefully Cotchery can play.

The jets need to take advantage of the 2 rookies. I’m sure braylon and j-co, who should be coming bac, should have no problems. The jets should look for the phins to blitz a lot more to take the pressure of the rookies.

The run worked pretty well against the Fins in Miami, and it should work even better in front of our home crowd. It’s still best for Sanchez to take advantage of the play-action when passing.

run run run, screens, play action max protection.

i would like to see schotty dial up some easy completions for sanchez to get him in a rhythm. bubble screens, etc. the dolphins DBs are going to have a really difficult time with the physical play of edwards and JCo. get them out in space, and let them make plays

I know, the offensive opposite of the wildcat: A-11! Figure out a way to make it work in the NFL.

The Miami Dolphins are going to be nervous going in to this game, worrying about their secondary too much to stack up against the run out of the starting gate, but remembering too well how we ran the ball against them last time.

The key is going to be playing to that paranoia. The opening drive should look something like this:

    1. Hand off to Greene for 6 or 7
    2. Deep bomb to Edwards for a score

Such a display would shatter the psyche of the Miami defence and open the game up for the offence.

This game needs to be won by the defence, though for reasons that need not be explained. If I’m Rex Ryan I am insisting on a sack from Pace and Gholston.

looks like we have a few things going our way in this game, Sanchez can let those passes fly and we can test out their defense, we’ll see what happens, i’m saying must-win for the Jetsies though going into a bye week.

It’s not all that hard to figure out. If Miami sells out to stop the run then that mean single coverage on Edwards, Cotchery and Clowney- linebacker or safety on Keller. If they play cover 2 then the run is there.

yea but we cant score to quick…i felt the last time we played them we scored to quick and our defense paid the price at the end…we have to run the ball and keep the ball out of their hands until we can establish a good lead…then go for play action and score to put the game away or out of reach…but this all depends on how well we can run the ball agaisnt them…just my thoughts…

fish suck, with j-co back, having him and edwards against these guys will open them both up, like it did for braylon in miami. people are gonna have to worry about clowney’s speed, he demands coverage, even if it is a straight line hes running, and a backer on keller gives us the edge in the passing game. i love the change of pace greene provides from TJ, TJ is a gasher, greene gashes and then just explodes to the hole. they can’t cover all of them, excercise the short pass game early, get a rhythm, lots of playaction and protection means we hold the ball and win, against miami its so critical to win the time of possesion handily. i think it comes down to the ability to run, run it all over them early when they play cover 2. make them stack us up and hit em with deep routes. jets should win no problem
