Jets Announce Price Cuts for 2010 Seats
The Jets made a press release today about lowering season ticket prices for next year. I think it’s an important topic to editorialize later, but don’t have the time right now. I wanted to provide you the full release first.
Jets Open Season Ticket Sales for New Stadium to General Public on Nov. 1
Team Also Announces Plan to Lower Price on Mezzanine Club Seats By As Much as 50%
Florham Park, NJ-The New York Jets today announced that they will open up season ticket sales to the general public for their inaugural season at the New Meadowlands Stadium on Sunday, November 1. In advance of the public sale, the Jets lowered ticket prices 20 to 50 percent on Mezzanine Club seats – representing approximately 10 percent of the seats in the new stadium. Prior to going on sale to the general public, the club has sold 70 percent of its non-premium seats in the new stadium to existing season ticket holders.
“This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to obtain seats in the best stadium in the NFL,” said Matt Higgins, Jets Executive Vice President of Business Operations. “We’re excited to begin season ticket sales to the general public. Although 70 percent of the non-premium seats have been sold, there are still great options available to be there when we kickoff the inaugural 2010 season. Our number one goal is to have a sold-out stadium when we open in 2010.”
Ticket prices will be reduced in the Mezzanine Clubs, representing 7,000 of the 80,000 seats in the new stadium. The four sections in the Mezzanine Clubs will be reduced as follows:
o Mezzanine Club Corner tickets will go from $400 per game to $195.
o Mezzanine Club Goal Line tickets will go from $400 per game to $245.
o Mezzanine Club Sideline tickets will go from $500 per game to $295.
o Mezzanine Club Prime tickets will go from $500 per game to $395.
PSL prices have not been adjusted for any seats in the stadium.
“We recognize that thousands of fans want an affordable option to experience the Mezzanine Club,” said Thad Sheely, Jets Executive Vice President of Finance and Stadium Development. “By aggressively cutting prices on these club seats by as much as 50 percent, fans can experience the best food, parking and amenities available. With ticket prices now starting at $195 per game, club seat access is available for as little as $45 per game more than some lower bowl seats.”
As of Sunday, November 1, the general public can call 800-469-JETS to purchase their tickets for the inaugural 2010 season and visit newjetsstadium.com for more information. The Jets will hold a one-day pre-sale this Friday, October 30, for their Facebook fans to purchase season tickets for the new stadium.

As with most things in our daily lives, prices for seats at a Jets football game have spiralled out of control. I hope they choke on their PSL’s and their outrageous ticket prices. Out with the real fans and in with the rich and the corporate peabrains who squander the stockholder’s hard earned investments and then go out of business.
The sports that we love, and have supported, have turned into big businesses. We keep allowing this to happen, by purchasing tickets and paying big bucks for team clothing and memorabilia. We have to wise up and stop supporting stupidity or all of the things we love will be out of reach, before we know it. How much does it cost to go to the beach? How much is it to listen to music on the radio? We already pay for our Water and our TV. If we don’t stop supporting the stupidity — they will be charging us to go to the bathroom! Wake up, America.
not for nothing even with the prices being slashed thats still alot of fazules….i think they made those prices so steep knowing they were gonna have to cut them in half to make it look like they are doing us a favor…it would be understandble but still wrong to raise prices like that if the jets actually won a couple superbowls aned make the playoffs every year but its actually the complete opposite
Agree with the above posters……..It is a scam and they will just raise those prices significantly in the 2nd year and beyond……No one is going to buy those seats and they still have 30% of the other seats available…….Those 30% are cheaper and they can’t even sell those out……30 percent of 70,000 seats is 21,000 seats available plus the club seats……..Good Luck watching the Jets on TV locally next year…..Not going to happen………The fan base will shrink even more……..Giants win again………They sold their main seats…………
They will suck you in for 2010 and raise the prices back to the original level. The old bait and switch. DON’T FALLFORTHIS SUCKER DEAL!
Harvlis, you are spot on. I have found that the best way to view football is NFL ticket with DirecTV. For the cost of one ticket to a live game (in NY) I can see every game every week and the beer in my fridge doesn’t cost me 9 bucks a pop!
I’ve watched many games from home, but there is nothing like being there with 80K people. I’m sure it was nice to save a few bucks on beer and listen to Dan Dierdorf paint the picture for you, but the New England game is something I still think about — loud and thrilling the whole time. Not that I’ll spend this much to go (I got upper deck seats), but I don’t like watching from home better.
I’ve long held that allowing corporations to write off the cost of tickets to sporting events as a business expense would be the death of pro sports as we know them. The rising cost of ticket prices can be tied directly to this practice. So can the skyrocketing salary structures.
The day isn’t far off when there will no actual fans in the seats, but merely the beneficiaries of corporate largess.
I don’t blame the owners or players for taking advantage of a system geared towards corporations. It’s our lawmakers who are to blame. Without the tax write-offs, this problem wouldn’t exist and both ticket prices and salaries would fall to reasonable levels.
are they going to have any cheap season tickets like the upper levels/endzones that do not require a PSL? that’s all i can afford right now
Sorry Charlie!!………Upper deck has long since been sold out as there is no PSL…………….
Upper Deck is not sold out. Jets ticket office just called me last week (w/o 10/19) and they had plenty available. No PSL attached. Sweet!
Nope…Still cant afford them.
the bad thing about this too is he went half on this new stadium with mara not like he funded it all himself plus im sure newjersey tax payers helped out too…i wonder the company who gets the naming rights will be one of the companies we bailed out too for the ultimate slap to the face
They will not be sold out pre-season. They will be selling single game tickets. I hope Woody and his Republican friends enjoy the luxury boxes while the real fans watch from home.
greg / 130,
Thanks for tossing in that perspective. I’ve always wondered about the allure of being in a stadium, other than a once-in-a-lifetime treat type of thing. Nicely stated. Makes sense.
Have only seen one pro game live: Giants-Eagles in the freezing rain in ‘75 @ Yale Bowl, while Jints Stadium was being built. Fun game; miserable experience. Couldn’t tell the teams anymore after the first qtr., due to the mud, where runners would fall and slide six yds. Football in the slop. Very satisfying. Very cool. Rain was a drag, though.
Otherwise, I’ve followed Titans/Jets for decades on radio and TV. So I’ve never felt the call of actually being in the stands, while I know those of you who do go are extremely passionate about it. I’ve always been happy at home or in a team-fan bar. Spent SB III in a student center in my small college in MD, where the student pop. was 1/2 guys from the NYC area and 1/2 from the Balt./DC area. Best time of my football life.
But this is just insane, IMHO. These prices are just nuts — and that’s the reduced price! The “original” prices, which should return as soon as the economy improves a bit, are astronomical.
Harvlis has a good point, too. They’ll keep charging silly prices only so long as there is someone silly enough to pay them. I can see buying a Jets uni with a number and no name. Or your own name. That’s a constant, and a keeper. But how many guys are now stuck having paid a C-note+ for a Mawae shirt or a Chad or Vilma or, worse, a Packer Guy shirt. And you know there are a couple of Barton or Elam shirts out there. The shirt of someone who spent their whole career w/ the Jets is cool. A Namath, Harper, Walker shirt is always a tribute. A Farrior shirt just doesn’t carry the same ummmph, y’know? But they’ve got your money, either way.
I’m certain that there are 3 or 4 guys somewhere, now tearing through the backs of their closets looking for that Miller/22 shirt they paid $100+ for.
BTW, welcome back, Ed(itor), figured you’d be back…
The deal seems interesting, but that video got me really fired up. The new clubs look really cool. You guys have to admit that, right?
