Who gives a hell if we’re hated? It’s better to be hated than to be irrelevant. As long as Rex wins football games he could be the world’s most hated man. I couldn’t care less. What’s with the obsession that our coach be liked? Why does it matter to you?

NFLFan – That’s fine. If you were calling ME “nuts”, then we would have a problem…whereas if you were calling a hypothetical person that would believe Rex is in the same class as someone like Ali “nuts” because you can’t believe anyone would put him on such a level without being crazy (and at the same time accepting that my explanation proves that this was not what I was saying), then it’s all good.

That made sense in my head, honestly.

I think this whole issue comes down to there being two types of fans in pro sports:

Those who are proud of their teams because they succeed, and those who are proud of their teams regardless of their success or failure.

The former live in dread of failure, the latter don’t.

Rex is a problem for the former, not the latter. Rex’s mouth scares the former, not the latter.

We all want our team to win, but only the former fear we’ll lose.

I’m glad I’m of the latter because I get to enjoy the games whatever happens.

If you’re a player, you damn well want NONE of the latter on your team. I understand why some fans feel that they need to share that attitude. But in reality they don’t. Our attitudes have no bearing on the team.

Should we ever win another Super Bowl, we’ll all enjoy the victory equally, but only some of us will enjoy the ride regardless of the outcome.
