Who: Jets vs. Dolphins

Where: Giants Stadium, East Rutherford, NJ
Their Last Meeting: Is it honestly that necessary that I recount wounds that are still open? If you insist. The Jets defense had trouble stopping the wildcat and a last minute defensive stand trying to protect the end zone would fail as the Dolphins went on to break the line for the game winning touchdown with seconds left until the final whistle.

The Jets really needed to turn around and get the morale back on track which thankfully they were able to do in Oakland. Despite the loss of Kris Jenkins and Leon Washington, the Jets have a lot of talent still waiting to be tapped and with the sting Miami left on the field, the Jets will be looking for retribution and the win that will edge them closer to the Patriots who currently lead the AFC East.
The Jets will need to be alert and focused on defense because the 1-2 punch of Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams can be deadly if it isn’t immediately stopped. In addition the Jets will need to get more pressure on Chad Henne who appeared to be the second coming of Dan Marino in the previous meeting according to Rex Ryan. It will be a challenge but the Jets have powerful weapons of their own now all they need to do is use them correctly.

During Pregame: Kerry Rhodes wanted to go to Joey Porter and tell him something but quickly 3 Dolphins players came and pushed him away.

Thomas Jones in my opinion is one of the best running backs in the league. Belongs right in the convo with everyone not named Adrian Peterson. As far as 2009 goes, I’ll trake him over alot of guys like Steven Jackson, Matt Forte, Steve Slaton, Michael Turner, et al. who got all the FF hype and are overrated.

i know he’s a rook, but we have the absolute WORST passing attack in the league with more than adequate weapons……nobody is dropping passes…..their just not getting them. i wasnt expecting joe montana but i wasnt expecting worst qb rating in the league and Favre pt.2(intos) either. give me jp lozman or shaun hill numbers at least, lol. we have actually lost games off of individuals performance, i dont care what anybody says

This is not the same old Jets. This is a solid team with a rookie QB, a potential franchise QB, that is learning how to win together. This is not a team that has been together for a decade like the Pats. Stuff is going to happen.
But we are getting better and this team has a chance to be special going forward.

KD, as I remember the Jets were down by 5 with the ball in their hands at the last minute. The game was lost by a coach the eschews football fundamentals for fancy playcalling. The offense really tried. Keller made some catches that made my eyes water. But they had no business passing the ball on 1st in 10 inside of the 15 with a minute and a half to go. Bad, bad football.

Absurd. This game was lost by the special teams and a fumble by a rookie running back. That was 21 points.
The defense was outstanding. The offense was pretty good and at times inspired.
Justin Miller, as I predicted, was a dud. The coverage team was unusually bad. That’s why we lost.
And yet the Jets had a chance to win this game at the end. This team will get better.

All you can hope for with a new HC and rookie QB is that the team improves. They did. The adjustments against Miami’s ground game were exceptional. They didn’t let Henne have anywhere close to the success he had in the last game.
The Jets running game was solid against a very very good defense against the run. Sanchez made throws, moved the ball when called upon 20/35 265 yards 2 TDs and didn’t turn it over (not counting the failed the two point conversion)
The team made good adjustments and got better. Special teams choked and lost the game.

Although they haven’t proven they can win consistently, look at the schedule the rest of the way. The only teams they will be underdogs against the rest of the way are the Colts and Pats. They get the Bengals at home and who knows what they will look like come week 17.
These losses to Miami twice and Buffalo are brutal dont get me wrong. But all the football preview magazines had us finishing last in the division. We are still right in the thick of a wildcard berth, which I believe is the most realistic goal for us. I learned two things from this game.
First and foremost REX RYAN does not have the strength, character, or conviction to lead this team. He said “that we were going back to running the football”. This week the jets were practicing two things importantly. First on defense was to shut down the running game of the Dolphins. The net rushing yards for the dolphins was 52. The jets defense worked hard only this week in preparation I have not seen this consistency all year. In fact Scott was a non-factor today against the run. Credit Pouha, Pace, Ellis, Harris, and Thomas for containing the run. Last year the jets practice this consistency until they face the Broncos who showed the nfl the blueprint to wear down Jenkins and run on the jets. This year when they face the Saints they yielded a net rushing of 132 yards and against the bills they yielded a net rushing of 142 yards. Both were losses but sanchez threw 8 interceptions combined and did not spark the offense. The defense struggled and was not consistent. You can pull the Bills game out and say that jenkins was hurt but Scott was a non-factor and the defense wore down. This leads to the second thing I learned from the jets today. REX RYAN did not follow his word and commit to the run on offense. Sanchez has shown he cannot win games in the fourth quarter. Sanchez threw 35 times today. A completetion percentage of 57(%), and showed that he held onto the ball too long, and was not poise at all. In the last series Sanchez dropped back 10 out of the 13 times (two plays which were broken up and he scrambled for yards). Now which plan are you following REX? Schotty’s or yours. When the jets ran the ball the dolphins could do NOTHING to stop them. Interesting stat I think the jets were 7-2 last year when thomas jones had 20 or more carries. Thomas jones had 27 carries for 102 yards today with a 3.8 yard average which wasn’t bad considering that he was a having a couple of gains of 10 yards at a time. The offensive line did its job today and defended Sanchez. What also shows is that the jets today showed vulnerability when they go out and make changes for the team. This is a coaching mistake. Jason Trusnik was the jets best special teams coverage player. I know it doesn’t mean anything now but it shows when the opposing team gashes the jets for 200+ yards on one phase of the game in which you are strong at. You lose the nucleus of the that particular unit. I give Ginn all the credit but for the jets to replace a hole (receiver) and open up another (special teams) can come back to haunt them. Tannenbaum should be lashed out for choosing Shonn Greene and hoping to put him as leverage against Thomas Jones. Greene is not the runningback of the future. If Greene did not cut back (it is not his style by the way) the way he did today and just pick a hole and run through it it would have been a more physical game. The jets defense played more physcial today than the last time they met. RYAN DID NOT KEEP HIS WORD. He is NOT HONORABLE!!!

A year or two from now Sanchez probably scores consistently on a final drive like that. But without the special teams gaffs, he wouldn’t have to. Overall, it was a well coached, and played game on offense and defense. Because it’s the freshest memory, and the loss so painful, everyone is over weighting the last drive.
Once the smoke clears, there are a lot of positives to be taken for the future of the team. It was nice to see Cotchery, Edwards and Keller all on the field together catching balls. Plenty of upside if that continues.
The D – without Kris Jenkins – held a Miami rushing attack that averages 170 a game, 2nd in the league, to 52 yards. That’s very good news going forward.
Jet fans have been under appreciating how solid a team Miami is. They’re a handful for anyone who plays them this year and the Jets were dominant but for the two runbacks.
Tough, tough, freakish loss. Let the bandwagoners jump off. I think the future’s pretty bright.

By the way, Feely was accountable on at least one of those returns. He was too aggressive in looking to get into the action after the first tackle he made. He’s the final line of defense and shouldn’t have been so far up. He did hit a 55 yarder but has to be more sound on returns.

I am hearing good points. The Jets have to be thinking about winning each game. No matter who they play they have to put a game plan together like they are trying to win the Super Bowl. They have to play a complete game and that means attacking the other team’s weaknesses on defense and playing smart on every facet of the game. We need to make the playoffs this year.

the game wasnt on the line there. The game was on the line when the Jets held them to get the ball back to set up and game winning drive. The Jets had the ball from the nine 3 times to go ahead. The bottom line is the defense didnt lose this game for them, the allowed one TD but the fumble and two KOs spotted them 21 pts. Its not just me disagreeing with you, you are flat out wrong -

No team will be looking forward to playing the Fins this year. Tough and sound on both sides of the ball. The Jets coaching staff took the film from the first game and made marked improvements, more than enough to win. Two runback against Westhoff’s unit? I guarantee you no one predicted that.

There is absolutely no doubt the the ‘Phins scored when the game was on the line. Everything after that was superfluous. Except when Farnchez had the ball on the (I believe the 6 yd line) and the Miami D held!!
The only thing I can say is root for the JETS, spent the LEAST amount of $$$$ , and dont swallow the MediaAide!!

What is so frustrating is that Sanchez wants the ball in difficult situations. Its hard to see this. You are ineffective in this game without the running game. You should let everyone on the offense carry you along. You have a better chance of winning on the ground than in the air. The other team is forcing you to run the ball and you are forcing to throw the ball.

Guys, please don’t give up on this team.
Last time we started 4-4 we went to the playoffs. I know division record is big for tie breakers for the Division, but it’s not so much for Wild Card, thats overall conference record. We have some winable games coming up, the Offense is playing great, the defense is playing like the D from weeks 1-3. We have some flaws to fix on Special Teams and some guys to get healthy, and we will do it in the bye week.
I’m not saying this is playoff team, but just the eyeball test tells me this is a great team with all the parts necassary. We just have to figure out the puzzle, and that is tough with so many new pieces.
Keep some faith and what ever happens happens. I know it hurts, and I’m feeling the pain too, but this is not the end, no sir this is not the end. Call me delusional, call me crazy, but I love this team, and whether they were 4-4 or 0-8 I will support them and still keep the hope alive until the day I die.
