Liveblog: Bent & Bass Jets-Dolphins Liveblog
Hello from the Meadowlands! Bent and I are hanging out in the pressbox here and while he’s going to be leaving us shortly, we thought it would be fun to liveblog some of today’s festivities.
We’re also tweeting thoughts on the game here, follow us at @thejetsblog.
3:47 – Seriously I’m not even trying this anymore. Follow me on Twitter now.
3:22 – At the end of the third quarter, the Jets ran back down the field quickly via a Cotchery catch and run and scored another touchdown. Edwards had a super athletic TD that you have to see on highlights … it’s amazing. The Jets went for two and failed … I get going for two there, but hope it doesn’t bite them in the end. Jets 19 Dolphins 24
3:13 — Ted Ginn runs his SECOND kick back for a score in this game. Damn. He needs to get benched every week. Dolphins 24 – Jets 13
3:11 — Jets use the opportunity to convert the muffed punt to a touchdown on the next drive. Sanchez has a backbreaking naked boot. Beautiful fakeout.
3:04 — Just when things look bleak, Davon Bess muffs a punt and gives the Jets second life setting them up on the 30. If the Jets can’t get a TD here, they don’t deserve to win this game.
2:58 – Jets drive the ball decently well, but Shonn Greene fumbles the ball and Jason Taylor scoops it up for a runback and a touchdown 17-6 Dolphins. It’s getting ugly quick.
2:52 – Ted Ginn burns me … hard putting the Dolpins up by 4 on a kick return for touchdown. Write this 1,000 times … I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. I will no longer taunt the Dolphins on my blog. ….
2:50 – Jay Feely hits a 55 yard field goal for the Jets! 6-3 Jets. His celebration was priceless, jumped as high as he could and he still wasn’t as tall as Brick or some of the O-Lineman.
2:46 – Dustin Keller getting chippy after missing a third down conversion with a defender.
2:43 — Hey! Been a while since I checked in here. Jets tied at 3. Jets have a great defensive first series, holding the Dolphins from getting the conversion. Shaun Ellis had an excellent pressure and sack on third down to set the Jets up in excellent field position after the punt.
2:11 — Jets and Dolphins a combined 1-13 on third down … that’s why the game is 3-0.
2:00 — Cotchery showing some frustration at Sanchez skipping a ball to him that he could have otherwise caught that ball.
1:55 — Jets slow the Miami D and David Harris has a great read and react sack for the Jets to stop the Dolphins drive. THESE are the plays that the Jets missed on in the first game in this series. Now the Jets are pinned deep. Let’s see how they do in the same situation the Dolphins have been in …
1:48 — Jay Feely makes a great tackle on Ted Ginn to stop the runback at the 25 yard line.
1:45 – The Jets end the drive and score a FG, but there was some questionable playcalling on second down. Now the Jets are going to give the Dolphins their best field position of the game … will they be more risky on offense now?
1:33 — Faneca gets blown back on what turned out to be a ok gain, but Faneca was blown up on that play.
1:33 — This Dolphins punter is having an insane day … I guess it helps he doesn’t need to limit his punts.
1:31 – Bent makes the great point that Revis made a great play on the ball on the drop by Fasano. A safety would have narrowed the gap versus play the ball.
1:30: Schottenheimer is calling plays one play too late. SHould have end-arounded one play earlier, when team wasn’t keying on it. He had Cotchery perfect on the previous play, which I think is why he did the next play he did.
1:27 – Bent and I agree that the catches that Keller has been making were all the ones he would make last year.
1:25 – Keller gets in a little talking with an opponent after getting the Jets first third down conversion of the day. Bent intones in that British accent of his, “that’s why they drafted him, didn’t they?”
1:23 – Flea flicker by the offense, Bent said he had Richardson wide open underneath, but no luck as Sanchez threw it away .. he was locked on Edwards.
1:21 – Justin Miller had a great block on Leonhard’s punt return, he pancaked him and it was clean.
1:20 – Bent and I are talking about the Jets and even though it’s not sexy, the Jets need to play this sort of a field position game. It’s not necessarily fun, but it’s working so far.

woo – i guess the Fins laid a Bart Scott hit on the Shancise…..
Rex is having Herman Edwards type problems managing the clock. Calling those two timeouts, especially the last one, give other teams unnecessary extra chances.
2 things on the 1st half:1) Clowney twice ran 3rd down routes for receptions 2 yards short of the 1st down marker. 2) We see how important having a good punter is.
a 55 yarder??!
I love the hit Sanchez took, he grew up on that hit and moved forward to being a man. No more GQ mags buddy. i want a rugged N.Y QB not some sweet playboy
Ginn kills the jets. Maybe the jets wide recievers should learn to catch the ball with their feet
Feely – pump your chest agian.. Ginn 100 YD return because of an returnable kick-off
The Prevent Defense is dead.
If only the Jets could give up playing the Prevent Offense.
SOJ!
its time to let sanchez throw the ball you didn,t think last game at the meadowlands between these two teams was going to be trhis boring
what i tell you get ready for a big ride to victory
COME ON! WHAT HELL ARE WE DOING THERE ARE IN OUR HOUSE
i would not want it any other way
IN your house? the Giants house? Until 10 seconds ago – dominating.
defense will get even better now miami defense will be on the field to long we need 3 out and run again
Electrifying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Jets love to disappoint. They are less than mediocre because they can’t beat mediocre teams. AKA Dolphins, Bills.
Their play makes me sick.
They called a timeout to run that pass? So stupid. The offensive play calling by the Jets has been terrible.
Sickening
what a bunch of douchebags
Their play calling is very close to terrible. At least there is one consistent thing the Jets do. I cried and prayed they would get a better offensive coach last year and that didn’t happen. We need to have a killer instinct on offense such as the Colts, Saints, and other winning teams.

Brian?
Really – you might want to take a look at the last 20 years. Both the Bills and the Dolphins have been better than the JETS. I am not sure you have one fact to call any other team mediocre – when the JETS have done nothing, nothing but talk…
When you win on AFC East division – then talk, until then, stay humble…
the jets took my advice on how to stop the wildcat(4-3) can they just stop the reg run.
I was looking at the bills and dolphins now not in the past.
Even now Brian –
The only team that can tlak in the AFC East is the Patriots until someone can break thru…
Good luck the rest of the year -
we need a DE and a OLB that can make plays and cover. im tired of running backs and TE catching all the balls aginst us. This need to end this season.
If the Jets miss the playoffs this year, they can look at the two recent losses. I have really had it with this team.
NO GUTS! HEY ALLFISH GO SHOOT YOUR SELF!
Thanks Jay -
Good luck with your JETS – you are a classy individual to respond like that.
They should give gholston a camera
allfish go back to miami with the rest of the fa**
plz run on 1st down plz
jay – learn how to be a man.
schooty should be fird today for that last play. the phins obviously knows it and it should have been a short pass to get some yards
good game – and good luck to the JETS the reast fo the season.
season seams bleek at this point. stilllove this team, there a bright future with Rex. Schotty????? im soory for the guy beut he cant make it happen. wtf come on >:(
cant blame Shotty for all of this one, it was a great game. his playcalling was ok, just couldnt come up with the right play when we need it.
Westoff and his crew need to give back any game balls the received for the Kick returns. we need some speed guys out there that can tackle. Brad smith should only be in on Punts.
go f**k urself allfish
Jets are now 0-3 vs. two AWFUL teams in their division. Of course, that makes them worse than awful. Putrid. Just putris.
we should of ran it on second and six jones was runin at will almost
Rex’s game management was terrible during this game.
1) The timeouts before the half. Granted nothing bad happened, but it gave more opportunities to the dolphins.
2) Not challenging the Bess play which Revis clearly recovered after the play…just terrible.
3)Going for the two pointers (the last time was justified)…too early. Another thing the last two pt. conversion attempt that was nullified due to illegal motion. I hope somebody clarifies what actually happened because I still am not sure.
Obviously ST broke down and really cost us the game.
Disappointing as usual.
Wow Danny Woodhead looked great on coverage today
Faneca has been a liability in pass protection all year
well i guess this time specail teams killed us the last 4 plays no runs we could of gotten a first down at least and beat
Allfish do me a favor and go on your own 3-4 dolphin Blog. No need for that kind of banter during the game.
hey at least the defense backed it up
Outcoached badly. Without those failed 2 pointers, we could have been going for 3 at the end. We should have run on 3rd down as well to make it 4th & short. The Jets are a better team & really Rex needs to mature as a coach. I feel totally sick.
now we just need to play for wins and buld for next year no shottie
allfish are ya dead yet
This is what happens when you let Eric Mangini pick you clean of your top special teams players.
2 point conversions would not have made a difference if the Jets decided to kick, the Fins would have kicked the extra point then.
Defense finally plays well, then offense struggles, then offense steps up, and special teams kill us. I HATE losing to a crappy team like the dolphins. It kills me…just kills me. they suck, and unfortunately, we suck worse, apparently.
Difference between Fins and the Jets is that when the Fins needed a TD to win and were inside the 10 with under 2 minutes left, they committed to the run. They know what they are. The Jets are a ground and pound team with an OC who thinks he’s coaching the Saints.
Please enough with the blame game – Its painfully obvious that the Jets lose this game do to poor ST play and the lost fumble from Sanchez. Rex had an outstanding game plan – Don’t run a good coach out because blaming a ST player may not get the headlines.
Just cant take much good from this game. Sanchez played well only because Miami stopped blitzing. Our defense played well, except when it really counted. And special teams? It’s yet another week where we get to say “well, we had a chance to win”. Gonna vomit now.
No chance at playoffs anymore
Look we all knew the Jets weren’t hoisting the Lombardi trophy this season. If you ask me we aren’t that far off from a great team. However Sanchez is a rookie and a few off season moves will put us over the top.
Rex Ryan is a great defensive coordinator but a horrible head coach…First move he better make is replace Schotty with Callahan…But he won’t do that in a million years…
horrible head coach? Way to critical – You give him way too much credit for having an outcome in this game. – The PLAYERS LOST THIS GAME PERIOD.
“Its painfully obvious that the Jets lose this game do to poor ST play and the lost fumble from Sanchez.”
It was Greene, not Sanchez. Anyway, regardless of the ST problems and the fumble, they had a chance to win at the end and came up short. There’s no way 2 and 6 should turn into 4th and 13.
AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH You guys are terrible. You done just been swept. DOLPHINS RULE!
Why not run on 3rd down to set up a 4th an short, seeing up a little dump or a run for the first. Then we have a fresh set of downs to score a TD. I don’t like having sanchez throwing when we could have easily ran it. This is a tough team to watch I tell you that.
“you done just been 3-4? lol
OK, So the D played really well today. They only gave up 104 yards and 9 points. The O gave up 7 points, and the ST gave up 14. I think the O and ST have given up more points this year than the Defense. The only thing that really needs to change is Leonhard as the punt returner. He’s just too slow. He can’t get more than 10 yards on a return to save his life. If the O and ST would stop giving up points, the jets might have a chance to win a game.
@Miami Dolphins, if we are really that awful its not saying much for the dolphins, we lost both games to you in the last few mins of the game and who else have you beat, the bills?
BTW, Rex Ryan is a fat bag of **** who should focus more on coaching then on running his ****ing mouth. He’s a punk just like his father.
When you beat the Patriots, did they give out rings? Cause that’s the closest you’re gonna get. Same old Jets. November 22nd can’t get here soon enough.
It’s going to be Arma****inggeddon.
The Jets may be terrible, Miami Dolphins, but so muust be your life if you think posting anonymous comments on another team’s blog is good way to spend a Sunday afternoon. No family? No friends? Hopefully for your sake, your childish taunts have provided a minor distraction from the aching hollowness of your lonely, loveless existence.
Can someone explain to me the penalty on the successful 2 point conversion?
Of all the big plays, that ends up being the biggest because had there been no penalty there, we had a FG in the basket on the final drive and everything else would be gravy at that time.
I blame Tanny and Woody…After Groh, Edwards, and Mangini they should have NEVER hired another rookie head coach!!!! I personally wanted Jon Gruden..He’s younger than Rex and already has a Superbowl…Shanahan was next on my list followed by Cowher …This was NEVER gonna happen because: 1. Tanny didn’t want to give up power 2. Woody cheaped out 3. They wanted a defensive-minded head coach so their boy Schotty could run the offense…Remember, Tanny desperately wanted Schotty as his head coach…Tanny had Schotty ahead of Rex on his list of candidates but feared negative media and fan reaction…
BTW, Rex Ryan is a fat bag of **** who should focus more on coaching then on running his ****ing mouth. He’s a punk just like his father.
lol i laughed when i read this. I honestly started to buy Rex’s “tough-guy” attitude after we started 3-0 and beat NE and TN at the beginning of the season. But now its a complete joke, and its backfired. The media, and his players now see him as a guy who can talk alot of smack and not back it up. That CANNOT be good in any way
3rd down, we should have run. So obvious. The zebras better clarify that illegal shift. It cost us the game as well.
Fish fans-I guess you have the right to brag but your team is going nowhere just like us. These 2 teams both kinda suck & I agree nobody on either team has the right to talk any smack at all.
you done just been! go back to school you fins fa**ot
I blame religion I blame the world I blame Shotty I blame Rex I blame Sanchez I blame Greene, I blame the ST’s, I blame the ref’s I blame Favre, I blame Tanny I blame Woody I blame Bellicheat I blame………………………
Getting real old -
The Jets are a solid club and will be for several years. Stop feeding the media with this garbage.
There’s really no connection between what the knuckleheads write in the paper and what happens on the field. Seriously. Rex Ryan could answer every question in Esperanto from here on out and would have zero effect on the games.
40 years as a jets fan and this is by far the worst. all the big-mouth idiotics of this team has shut me down. the patriots are going to shred this team like its never been shredded before. i’m embarrassed.
dmazz, yeah sure the Jets are a real solid team…Please tell me that you’re joking!!!
Tuco the Jets Brwons Divisional Game was the worst day for me as a Jets fan. Today was nothing. Everyone acts like a coach and its players are wrong for showing confidence/ Id much rather this than the old regime.
The Jets will fly high in 2010. Thats when you should have expectations. Not when theres a rookie coach /staff QB new system on D loss of Jenkins / Leon.
AFC Playoff picture
Division Winners
Colts, Patriats, Steelers, Broncos
Wildcard
Bengals 5-2
Texans 5-3
___________________
Ravens 4-3
Chargers 3-3
Jaguars 3-3
Jets 4-4
Dolphins 3-4
One of the Steelers, Ravens, Bengals will drop out because they’ll beat on up each other. Same goes for the Patriats, Jets and Dolphins. The Chargers are not a good team at all. Their only saving grace is that they are in a horrible division but that may not be enough to save them.
We won the head to head battle vs the Texans.
We have a game against the Jaguars at home coming soon and end the year with the Bengals at home.
We are right in the thick of things. We get the bye week at a great time, right at midseason. We can work on some things, get healthy, study some more film and we’ll be in it til the end.
Here’s the deal in all seriousness. Sanchez, ultimately, will be fine. Edwards and Keller are great. Your O-Line is really good. Washington is outstanding. Revis could be all-world.
But Ryan is a blowhard. If I were Tannenbaum, I’d tell him to shut his ****ing piehole, lose 50 pounds, and try again next year. The only reason opposing teams’ fans are taking such joy in the Jets losing is this bag of crap.
That and I’d ban the retard known as Fireman Ed.
After 34 years of rooting for this pathetic team, its days like this that I hate myself for being a Jets Fan!
Brand new team same old Jets!!!!
This team sucks!
Ronnie, we’re 0-3 vs. Bills and Fins. We suck. we’re not going to playoffs, and it’s our own damn fault, because we blew 3 games against mediocre team, (even by NFL standards. Have you noticed how many truly bad NFL teams there are? Week to week, it sems you never know what teams will show up. Is it so hard to play 16 games a year at full throttle? I guess so.
was at the game cant believed they let 2 ko returns…..and why can sanchez only play good 1 half a game??
I can think of 30 losses worse than this one in the past 30 years. Are you kidding me? I love this team & always will.
So we lost but there were a lot of positives today. We lost it on those 3 returns. Miami can’t make a run for the playoffs on those types of games. We’re still half a game ahead of them and they go to NE next week.
Defense was strong (Ellis, Pouha, Scott, Harris et al) as were Sanchez, Keller, Edwards and Thomas. Just got to regroup and beat the Jag’s. Jag’s will be my first game watching the Jets live after following for 25 years in the UK – can’t wait!
My best guess is that the anonymous fish fans posting here are just trying to block out the howling silence in their souls. Good luck to them they’ve waited a long time for it but I don’t think they’ve got too much to look forward to for the rest of this season.
WW85, think about what you just said. 30 worse losses than this! WTF kind of team are we rooting for!?
For you haters – that the only comments you can make is one of 4 letters – all i can do is quote a reasonble average head coach.
“Boo Hoo Hoo”
Jay, Charlie and Led – bad medicine has a real bad taste. It actually can last several days.
Cheers
Why did the JETS go for 2pt conversions so early. If they kick both of those failed 2pt conversions its 30-27 on that final drive. Kick a field goal and take a chance in overtime. Another coaching blunder
Lots of problems during the game is but the fact is that with plenty of time left the Jets were 9 yards away from winning. Instead of handing the ball off to their experience running back (Jones) the OC has their rookie QB throw the ball repeatedly. That simply does not make any sense. Really, it is mind boggling. The chances of the QB being sacked and or fumbling and or throwing an INT far exceeded the risk of Jones fumbling the ball. Plus the chances of Jones gaining yardage was near certainty. Stupid loss. The Jets players deserve better coaching.
it doesn’t matter if the jets kicked the extra points instead of going for the 2pt’ers. the phins would have just kicked their own extra point and been ahead by 4.
I’m thinking of making a Crying JETS Fan video for YouTube like ‘Crying Giants Fan’
Shamik,
This is not a good teaam>We look like a very typical NFl .500 team that has lots of talent but can’t combine it at the right time. I’ve been a Jet fan over 30 years & the Jets have pretty much been around .500 most of that time. I’ve seen so many heartbreaking losses over the years, I’ve stopped counting. It’s always worse losing to Miami-I grew up with Marino crushing me over & over. I actually thought the Bills loss was far worse than this one this year. .500 teams lose games they should win & win games they should lose.
allfa* shouldnt you be dead bt now!go to hell
I guess the keepers of thie BLOG allow personal attacks and name calling.
Again – best of luck to the JETS the rest of the season and go YANKS.
Celebration Cigar being lit!!!!
Jay, why do you gotta use the ‘fa-’ word dude? I’m fairly certain Bassett, who puts in a ton of work on this site, doesn’t want to see it. Its affiliated with SNY, etc., and we can show our appreciation by not making it a difficult task to moderate the comments.
This game sucked but relax. Right now, the football team from their geographic area is superior to the one from ours. Period. JETS might be better by the end of the year in terms of their record (we all hope for this and for the playoffs) but the Dolphins earned these wins.
I hope the dolphins lose every game for the rest of the season.
this loss hurt more than most because of rex ryan.
why can’t he just be the normal professional coach like 90% of the rest of the NFL?
does he really have to talk so much smack, and allow his players talk so much smack, and get the opponents completely riled up??
thanks to rex, the dolphins — and others — will continue to play beyond their skill level just because this coach can’t shut up and be a real pro
Same ole jets…. poor coaching, poor team prep, especially on special teams,,, I mean, they’ve lost 2 times to a team with only 3 wins?
Humiliation, depressing, pretenders, etc.
How about no more MOUTH until they start winning
ronnie and a few others on here with a brain — let the fairweather fans jump off the bus — you know they’ll be back after the next winning streak anyway — and just ignore their posts about how pathetic their lives are. This is a young QB who has shown a lot of promise, on a team that is building for the future. Let them cry and run away. The truth is that 2010 and forward was the plan, this was a building year all along and the only people that are disappointed now are the ones that got their hopes up at 3-0 when we were trying desperately to temper their expectations.
And I agree — NE beats Miami next week and loses at Indy and we could be playing for first place with a win at home vs Jax. (and if that happens you’ll see all the bandwagon jumpers back!)
“we could be playing for first place with a win at home vs Jax”
That could be the funniest thing I’ve read in months! Awesome! Keep ‘em coming, dude!
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!!
You must be humor-deprived. Or someone who likes to make other people feel bad so they can justify their own deep-down feelings of insecurity and low self-esteem. I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt and go with the first one.
As soon as Fat Rex shuts his face, I go away. Hope things are good in Section 130!
i know rex isn’t the guy on the field missing tackles and blocks etc, but i don’t know how Rex can look himself in the mirror after the dolphins losses.
can someone please tell him to SHUT UP!!
I never asked you to go away Tim. I just wondered why you would laugh at other people to make yourself feel better (and I am now leaning toward that second analysis).
I don’t understand why people need to be cruel to other people to satiate the emptiness in their lives. My team may stink but at least I can close out this page right now knowing I didn’t need to insult other people to make me feel better about myself (and if I read you right, you still will not feel better about yourself anyway). I’m sure you will write something “clever” to try to prove me wrong, or “laugh out loud” by yourself at me, but frankly, I’m off to watch the baseball game with my friends — so I apologize in advance if I don’t see any of your well-thought out attempts.
I don’t think you guys will be playing for first place in three weeks either cause you’ll lose to Jacksonville in two weeks and you will be in 3rd place, but that was damn funny stuff. Tim got worked over.
thats alright the fa* fins fans will come down after there a** kicking next week
Dude, lighten up And tell your jag-off Jets fan trolls to stay off Patriots boards.
Seacrest, out.
good lord, even after the game rex can’t keep his mouth shut.
he just embarrasses himself in those interviews.
start winning again then your fat ass should be allowed to talk.
James in TN -
Don’t worry about the Fins lossing – worry about your team winning….
FIRE BRIAN SCHOTTENHEIMER!
No way he should’ve gone run-pass-pass on that last drive. TJ was running well and we were moving the chains. First down, Jones gains what, 3-4 yards? On second and even third, just run the ball. We had plenty of clock to burn. There was absolutely no reason to pass that ball in that scenario.
Rex ryan and the JETS are the sorest losers I have ever seen. Rex and Bart probably want their ball back, and want to go play with each other, since it did not go their way. they are pu**ies.
theres nothing funnier than a non-jet fan wasting his time on a NYJets blog…man these people must have nothing to do hahaha
