..Fireman Ed….Where was he the entire 1st half? He recevied all the accolades for helping beat the pats…but he is so inconsistent with gearing the fans up…..We need him from start to finish…not just arbititrarly throughout the game….Any else feel the same?
talk to his agent.
I have been a dolpfin fan for 30 + years and have enjoyed watching they rivarly, such close games all the time its awesome.
I agree That the Jets defense played a great game but I dont understand why the coach and some of the players keep talking down to the dolphins as a team.
I agree we are rebuilding, we will get a top notch receiver next year parcells always does after he builds up the o and d lines.
We are not complete yet but we played the colts and saints better than any team yet so we are not far off, a Big #1 receiver like Boldin or Ocho Cinco and a better safety and we will be close.
Also Channing Crowder is good against run but not covering tight ends.
Anyways I think the Jets are not far off either we both have young QBS that will develope.
I just dont see how the coach and players from the Jets talk down like sore losers and bullies, I had respect for the Jets even though i never liked them, but know I am losing respect for them. Our kids are to look up to these pros and they look like bullies and thugs.
I love how our coach is getting trashed all over the place, the radio, this blog… its funny. What happened to our guru special teams coach? Is Rex responsible for all those missed tackles? Oh… and maybe, just maybe, the team that won the division last year is actually pretty good, can actually capitalize on mistakes… just throwing it out there
I think its pretty simple. There were people yelling around me at the yesterday saying I cant believe it. Well ill tell you all something, I can believe it. There is nothing else to believe. Its always something.
And truth be told, the jets have alot of talent but something is missing. There is no flow to our game. Maybe its the play calling, maybe its something else. But I can tell you this much. If we can somehow manage to go 10-6 on the season and squeek into the playoffs, i do not believe we can win games against teams like Pitt, Indy, Baltimore and NE.
Playoff teams make mistakes, then they correct them. Its seems every week after teh jets correct a big mistake, a new one happens. So in 2 weeks we will play jacksonville and our special teams will return a TD and make the opposing team start back in their own territory, but something else will hurt us. That is what .500 teams do. There is no such thing as should have won in the nfl. Your record is a reflection of your players ang coaches.
Any fan that wants to bash Rex with the love/hate can crawl back under that rock. Sanchez is not being groomed right. The kid is put in bas situations all game with a line that mostly hasnt blocked factored in with WRs that cant get any space
This team started the season with so many holes, Rex had us overacheiving and evertyone on the wagon. Now that we playing like the team we have on paper everyone wants off. Get off then and in the next few years dont show your face when Rex builds a power house.
You guys really wanted a superbowl this year. we can still make the playoffs and if we dont the team is going in the right direction with Rex and Chez.
Yah, i can see what you guys are talking about when you say Ted Ginn is a terrible reciever. i mean he just brings nothing to the table. Nothing at all.
I didn’t get to watch the whole thing (switching between the Giants game) but I saw Keller and Edwards make some beautiful catches. Keller was money in the 4th. Special teams had a bad day. But that’s Mike Westhoff once in a decade or so. The D and O were both playing high again so that’s a great sign. Pouha needs to be traded to a 4-3 team for some picks so the jets can get a prospect.
no mater what happened, the Jets threw this one away in the end, literally. Schotty’s gotta go. I’m comepletely convinced.
We have a rookie head coach and a rookie QB…mistakes are going to happen. Sure, there’s something missing…consistent QB play sort of has a ripple effect. Sanchez is shaping up nicely, but he’s still only completing about 53% of his passes and he has 8 TDs to 10 INTs. Teams are still stacking the box, so the 10% of passes he doesn’t make usually come in 3rd down or other obvious passing situations. Soon, Sanchez will be completing those passes, teams will ease up on 8 men in the box and the Jets will have longer and more successful drives. Longer drives help the defense and special teams, too. There’s no position in professional sports more important than QB (with the possible exception of NHL goalie during the playoffs). Look at the Giants…good Eli and the Giants look like a Super Bowl contender, bad Eli and the Giants look worse than the Jets. Until Sanchez matures, the Jets are just going to have to live with the inconsistency that a rookie QB brings.
I question Schotty a lot, but I don’t think that he can be blamed for yesterday. I think Schotty has a flaw…he loves the passing game too much and with a rookie QB, he has to run more in obvious passing situations. Also, if a running play gets 1 yard on first down, it doesn’t mean it won’t get 5 on second down and keep play action alive for 3rd down. I would’ve ran the ball on second and 7 at the 9 yard line yesterday. Time was not a factor, the Jets run the ball right as good as any team in the NFL, the Jets could’ve gotten a 1st and goal at the 2 and he has to remember that he has a rookie QB that needs to be put in as few “must pass” situations as possible. With play action as an option, Sanchez is just a much better QB. That was an ugly series to end the game, but I had no issues with the rest of the game.
Sack, I gotta say, if you don’t blame Schotty for last night, your entire statement is an indictment of his play calling in the final minutes. I 100% agree with that analysis also btw. All factors said run.
I agree that that more than playcalling went wrng for the overall game, but like a good offensive or defensive struggle. it came down to the last minute. And I beleive that, in that last minute, it wasn’t the Jets talent level that lost out, it was the playcalling. Schotty has shown time and te again that more than loving the passing game too much, he has no respect for fundamentals of football.
Remember last year the snow and rain games where TJ and Leon were hot and Schotty just refused to throw the ball. The guy’s gott a go.
#1 rushing in the league and #2 defense…
This all makes no sense…something is way off. Stupid presnap penalties is a good place to start. Eliminate those and we have a good shot to win at least 2 of the games we lost. Give Sanchez one more year and hes making those game tying or game winning drives at the end of the day. Again, asking too much of a rookie QB to win the game with 2 minutes left, his performances should not be judged by his ability to win games, just by his tenancies to lose games (which so far he has corrected after a couple bad ones)
I said throw. I meant run.
Jason,
Best comments so far. I think, though, I can take what you’re saying one step further. These losses truly come down to the coaching. When you have a team like ours that can beat the Patriots, the Texans at home, go toe-to-toe with the Saints, but then flop against Bills and the Phins with a hodgepodge of mistakes (one week it’s offense, one week it’s defense, one week it’s special teams, one week it’s penalties), it’s not for lack of “good” players or even “it” players (of which, I think we have a few)…it’s because the guys in charge aren’t keeping the players focused and in line with proper game plans.
I love Ryan’s attitude, and I think he’s got a great future here. However, I believe he’s gotten a little ahead of himself since our bum-rush of a 3-0 start. As a defensive coordinator, he didn’t have to manage every aspect of the game, and now that he’s being asked to man the ship, it looks like he’s having some trouble adjusting to the added responsibility.
Also, while I like some of Shotty’s creativity, since week 1 the guy hasn’t adapted play-calling to the tempo of the game. Last sunday, we started from mid-field almost the entire first half (I kept exclaiming to the guy sitting next to me that we would jump out early because of the great field position), but we couldn’t get anything rolling. We came out of the gates every time with the same, predictable set of bread-and-butter plays, and there was no spark.
If I could quantify it, I would say that I’m with Shotty about 40% of the time. I don’t think he’s horrible, but he’s not helping us, and he’s refused to adapt to the pace of the game. I don’t think I’ll get over those last 4 play calls for a while.
Yes, credit where credit is due: our 300+ rushing performances were great. However, one was against a Raiders team that trailed by about 20 points the whole game, and the other came during an OT loss.
In the end, I think that when you have such drastic inconsistency in the 3 phases of the game from week-in-week-out, you can’t blame the players. It’s the result of poor coaching.
igs,
But, Schotty had to let Sanchez throw and Sanchez’s throwing kept the Jets in the game. With 20-20 hindsight, the Jets should’ve run. But, Sanchez was picking apart the Dolphins secondary and the Fins were doing a good job at stopping the run. I would’ve run on second down because the Jets could’ve gotten a first and goal at the 2. I like to run down by the goal line, but I’m no OC. There’s also no guarantee that a run wouldn’t have been stuffed. Also, part of bringing a rookie along is to put him in more pressure situations like yesterday. Sanchez didn’t deliver yesterday, but he will soon. Generally, I just would like Schotty to run more on second down.
Sack,
I agree in terms of moving down the field. Sure, let ‘er rip. But once the Jets got that 1st down inside the 15 and there was around 130 on the clock. It should’ve been run, run, run. That’s where your run blockers, 1st round draft picks earn their money.
Sack, I’d also say that a rookie becomes special by developing a healthy respect for the game. Sanchez is a gunslinger already. He doesn’t need the flyboy encouragement.
The special teams letting two touchdowns occur is what lost us this game. Bottom line, if just one of those doesn’t happen, we win the game. I am not going to sit here and rip everything else apart. Truth be told, our defense stifled thier offense, and our offense scored enough points that we should have, and would have won this game.
Think about this: the Jets have outscored opponents by 43 points this year, DESPITE the fact that opponents have SIX defensive/special teams touchdowns to ZERO for the Jets. Just think about that. Add that to the injuries we’ve suffered and it really shows you how snakebitten this team truly is.
I thought we would run in for the touchdown so we could bleed the clock and take away their timeouts. I was hoping for a first down and then take 2-3 rushes up the middle to milke the clock so they had little time as possible to drive down the field. Does anyone remember the Seattle game last season how Schotty couldn’t master getting our players to get it in the endzone? I love the direction our team is heading but if anything else Schotty should have been let go last year because essentially the owner wanted him and Rex can’t call him out because it was part of the deal.
Ideally,Schotty is let go after the season and Rex picks his Own OC. That way the OC answers to Ryan who should be making all the coaching decisions not Woody or Tanny. Callahan would be perfect for the style of Offense Rex has in mind.
Just saying…
I love being a Jets fan…
i friggin hate jason taylor with a passion….he was so much more tolerable when we were winning al those games in a row…now since they won the last 3 jus makes him more douchey!!
hey…everyone needs to chill the **** out
My hate list
Bill Belichick / Jason Taylor
Joey Porter
Any Jet that left us for Pats
Tom Brady
The Wildcat
Tom Cable
Channing Chrowder
Now that that’s off my chest, I agree with Zartan, we still have a chance for the playoffs, and even if we don’t make it, we will be making it for the next couple of years under Ryan and Sanchez, remember the Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning Tandem didn’t start out great and they made the playoffs ever since their first season. I as a jets fan have a right to say the Jets suck, and they did on Sunday on ST, but I as a Jet fan will always have hope for this team, this team can go 0-15 and the next week I will always root for this team and feel like it’s gonna be our week.
Here’s why Ryan is a joke and has no right being an NFL head coach:
“RYAN, WHO GIVES Westhoff and offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer almost complete autonomy, says he has no plans to take a more hands-on approach.”
Ryan should return to just being a defensive coordinator…During games, this team is run like there is no game plan on all the sides of the ball..He has to take command but he’ll NEVER do that…Just like he’ll NEVER shut his big fat trap…I predict the players will soon get sick of his hubris and stop playing for him…He’s already embarrassed them enough…What a joke!!!!
if you have seen every game like me you could believe the jets should be 8///0 we made so many mistakes in our loses saints 2td spotted final score 24//10 dol long pass to gin td 31 /27 buf. 6 turnovers 16//13 dol gin again 2 td 1td fumble 30 //25.take away those stupied mistakes and we are talking a different tone.we are there we just need to worry about todays game and forget about playoffs i believe thats were the mistakes are comming from we are putting to much stress on our selves we are a new team we have nothin to loose expectations will drive you crazy
I have a suggestion for TJB. Since it’s the halfway point of the season, and we’re 4-4, and this blog seems to be split between the SOJ faction and the “we’re really ok” faction, I think a poll is in order.
Simply – Will the Jets make the playoffs this year?
Put me down for a No, only because I’ve watched this movie so many times, that the trailer (first 8 games) doesn’t pull me in – I know how it ends.
funny how it’s al “If (we haven’t had those penalties),If (Jason Taylor had not been at the right place at the right time), If….If…..IF…. but “IFs” do not win you games, good players and coaching do.. at the end…all that counts is a “W” or a “L”…but as Jets fans, you cannot admit that a team that defeats you twice is better than yours…. grow up, stop being crybabies and you may, just may, belong to the big leagues once again.
I am not off the bandwagon but can’t say I was always 100% on it…I knew coming into this season we weren’t going to b perfect and go 16 and 0 and knew that most likely we won’t go deep into the playoffs, mainly because of a rookie qb and rookie head coach….but I did know that as soon as we got rex we were going to b a different team ( not the “same ol jets”)
That being said as soon as we won our first 3 games, 3 tough games, I can say that I did have more expectations for this team…but was brought down to earth after that deflating bills loss…I don’t think schotty is a problem but I do agree his play calling is to predictable….like his goal line formation he called about 4 times when we were at the 30 yard line…that was plain ridiculous! But again I don’t think he is the reason y we r losing these games…in each game we put enough points to win the game…it was mistakes that cost us those games, not because we didn’t score enough….wut I think we r missing in order to win these types of games is for the whole coaching staff to be consistent in keeping this team focussed and prepared to play on every given Sunday for 60 minutes….we have had games where the offense and special teams shows up but defense doesn’t (first miami game)…we have had games where the defense and special teams step up but the offense doesn’t (saints game, but only cuz of out rookie qb) and we have had games where our special teams didn’t play well enough to win( bills game and yesterdays game)
Again I think that as soon as this coaching staff steps up their coaching and has this team prepared every Sunday that’s when we will start winning these close games and be an elite team! All we need is CONSISTENCY!!! CHILL OUT GUYS, THEY WILL GET THIS FIXED! WE STYLL HAVE A SHOT AT THE PLAYOFFS AND EVEN IF WE MISS IT WE ALL KNOW THAT WE HAVE A VERY GOOD TEAM TO LOOK FOWARD TO NEXT YEAR AND WE WILL SOON B A FORCE TO BE RECKONED WITH! GO JETS!
rex ryan will be fired after next year
freshAShell, you are correct!!! Also, all his boyfriends on this board will hate him by the end of next year just like the stupid Mets fans who were somehow fooled by Jerry Manuel and his personality/charm have now finally realized he’s an awful manager…Hopefully, someone like Jon Gruden will still be available…Just like after the Coupon’s finally fire Jerry Manuel next year, hopefully Bobby Valentine will still be available…Then again, the Coupon’s probably wouldn’t hire Valentine anyway…Thankfully, Acta has already been hired!!! Go Jets 2011!!!!!!!!!
I like Sanchez’ mentality. He looked good against the Phins. Let’s come back after the bye looking stronger than ever.
