Audible: Second Half Predictions

So tell us what you think about this team for the second half? What do you want to see from them? What are your expectations? Who do you want to see more from? How will the second half of the season play into what the team does in the future? Are there guys that you’ve “put on notice?”

Let’s hear it!

  1. to go 6-2 or 7-1.,…realistic 4-4

  2. 10-6 wildcard berth BOOYA

  3. The only lost that im willin to accecpt on the rest of the sched is the colts game, we must win against the Pats and the Bengals

  4. with such good AFC teams, can we even go to a wild card berth with 10-6 record?

  5. A lot depends on if can produce winning formulas of successful teams like Buffalo and Miami. If we can find a way to give up over 300 yards rushing and/or only gain 104 yards ourselves, the sky is the limit.

  6. 4-4 I hope I’m wrong.

  7. early this season = cautious optimism
    now = defensive realism

I’m defending myself from Sunday night depression by expecting an 8-8 season.

  8. second half expectations:

sanchez, edwards, cotchery, keller and clowney improve their chemistry during the bye, and we see the receivers and sanchez get their timing better, which results in a more accurate franchez.

schotty begins to retweak his playbook to compromise better with our new receivers/qb/rb.

woodhead steps up and gets some quality reps.

the team starts lowery in anticipation of cutting lito.

pouha and pituota (?) are both schemed into the middle of our Dline (and gholston is removed).

westermann is given quality reps (possibly in place of b.thomas)

westoff gets more quality time with players in practice for ST.

Rex gets nasty and goes a la Mangini and has muliple TACKLE DRILLS in the RAIN while BLASTING MUSIC.

    players put on notice:
    alan faneca
    bryan thomas
    david clowney
    b. hartsock

i predict a lot of great changes, and a moderate turn around:

    5-3 to finish 9-7.

no playoffs, but our core players gain experience for next year.

    GO JETS

  9. Jets will go 6-2 the rest of the way and get the 2nd wild card.

Sanchez will only turn it over 5 times the rest of the way.
Dustin Keller has a big second half and we will upset either the pats or the Colts.

  10. 8-0

The only team to have truly beaten us yet this year was The Jets. And the rest of the losses were just bum luck. This team is going to be everyone’s nightmare after the bye week. Mark my words, all you doubters. The worm has turned.

  11. 7-1 we will lose to ne and beat indy cause they wont have nething to play for we will get a wildcard

  12. You mean we have to endure another half?

  13. Kerry Rhodes continues to make no impact plays but leads the league in trash talk, taunting, and hilarious Twitters. LOL! Good 2 c u Kerry!

  14. It depends on so many different things, really, that it would be tough to make an accurate prediction. This team still has realistic playoff potential in my opinion, but a lot of things need to change.

For the time being my prediction is 4-4 the rest of the way, with an upset of a good team and an upset to a bad team sprinkled in.

  15. The easy asnwer is on paper we will go 4-4 and finish 8-8 but i cant let myself believe that we are a better team than that.

My issue is we can shock a team like Indy or Atl… I really beleive we can but then we are not consistent enough yet to then run the table on the “winnable games” like Buffalo or Tampa or Carolina…. the way we have played non of those are gimme’s

RealisticPrediction … 9-7 and will get teased will a playoff birth but lose out in the final week.

    I hate being realistic……

  16. I say we go 9-7, and miss the playoffs.

Those losses to Buffalo and Miami were crucial and unacceptable and will ultimately keep us from the playoffs.

  17. 9-7 and miss the playoffs. I’m with Drew. I really feel like the jets can upset any team given the strength of their defense and rushing attack, but they haven’t played with enough consistency to make me think they can put together a run big enough to make the playoffs.

  18. I think Jesus is right.

I’m still not convinced with dirty Sanchez, but at least the defense has kept us in contention. It will be interesting to see what they do during the harder part of the schedule, but we better not hope the last three games are needed to get in the playoffs

  19. The second half of the schedule is easier than the first half, and baring injury, the team is only going to continue to improve, especially Sanchez. Not finishing 9-7 or better would be a disappointment.

  20. 9-7

  21. The talent is here! The Jets will starighten this out and put together a string of good wins.

We have a new coach, a new QB and a new defensive system, it takes some time to gel. I really believe we’re going to see a different team for the second half of the season. The bye week could not have come at a better time. A little rest, some time away, and they’ll come back ready to play.

    6-2 to finish 10-6.

  22. Looks like 8-8 to me

  23. We will beat the Colts, who are resting all starters due to there clinched #1 seed, in week 17 to go 10-6 and probably miss the playoffs depending on what happens with tie breakers.

  24. 8-0 put it in the books

  25. The only thing that this team has proven to me this year is that we can pretty much lose to anyone that is not named the Oakland Raiders.

Worst case, we’ll beat Carolina and TB to go 6-10.

However, I am hoping that Rex learns how to use timeouts and NOT chase points in the third quarter, so we’ll probably pull out victories over a few more teams.

Best case is 9-7 in my opinion.

To go 10-6 or better, and have a shot at the playoffs, we’d have to beat all of the teams that we are supposed to beat (something that we have not done), plus two of CIN, NE, INDY, and ATL. I can’t possibly see that happening with this club, unless INDY and CIN have their playoff spots wrapped up by week 16.

    We’ll see… but I’m far from optimistic.

  26. Yep, I also see 9-7 and just miss the playoffs. But, I believe this year is exactly what I thought it would be: in the 7-9 to 9-7 range and a team that improves itself and looks younger to build a foundation for years to come. I would like to see Braylon and Sanchez form a great rapport towards the end of the year and that image of them at the end of of the Dolphins game makes me think they are forming a bond which is very important.

  27. Hartsock has been put on notice by this Jet fan bigtime….. Can a more invisble player be more involved in big penalties?

  28. 7-1 is the only way they have any shot. Lose to the Falcons(NFC) & run the table. The only reason I think it could happen is that I get the feeling this team is going to play well with it’s back against the wall.

  29. Sanchez has a 5 TD day and Greene gets over 180 yards to beat out Matt Snell for the Jets rookie record for most rushing yards in a game.

The record? 8-8 to 10-6, depending upon whether the Jets can play more consistently in all three phases of the game.

  30. As the offensive play calling goes, so goes the team. The defense is alright and will continue to get better as long as there aren’t any major injuries behind Jenkins. Pouha may become an issue against the smash-mouth teams. Special teams will be fine. Rex has to put a short leash on Schotty until he shows he can pul off a game plan that is respective of the kind of the defense the Jets are fielding. You cant make a real prediction until you see how the team reacts after the buy. But I’m leaning, tentatively 4-4. I don’t think they beat Carolina (rushing attack vs Pouha), New England (Brady’s stepping into his throws now.), Cincinatti (loaded with talent – this one can go wither way), or Indianapolis (Peyton Manning and Dallas Clark).

  31. I truely believe we can beat anyone. We should be 8-0 right now, if it wasn’t for a few bad plays here and there.

but, we have lost 4 games from those bad plays.

I say we go 7-1, win the afc east, win at least on playoff game and then AFC championship next year.

we have a great core of young players, some really good veterans. We are kinda like the 85 Mets, cocky good young team that just hasn’t put it all together yet.

  32. Will makes a good point – that the Colts may rest their starters of they’re already in. So maybe 5-3.

  33. I’m always against making predictions because of how many factors go into it. I think the Jets are capable of going 6-2 and making a playoff run, but I also think they are capable of blowing some games and going 4-4. The talent on this team is undeniable, but i’m getting a little tired of the results not matching the talent

  34. We could go 7-1 in the second half and the only loss being to ATL.But it won’t happen. We could be 6-2 and the last game vs CIN at the Swamp could decide the last WC spot

  35. Jacksonville W
    New England L
    Carolina W
    Buffalo W
    Tampa Bay W
    Atlanta L
    Indy L
    Cincy L

Finish 8-8 … and this includes some luck.

  36. The Colts are not sitting their starters with two weeks left in the season, that is ridiculous. The last game sure, but not week 16. They have to have some type of momentum going into the playoffs, especially if they have a bye.

I have tried to be optimistic, but I have given up. They were an 8-8 team when the season started and that is exactly where they will end up.

  37. great topic…

On notice, I’d have to agree with a lot of people and say Kerry Rhodes. make a play and get off twitter. you’re supposed to be loose and flying all over the place with the new D. Mostly I see him blitzing off the edge, then letting up when he gets within 5 yards of the qb. i was pitching him for probowl last year but then ed reed and troy polomalu really showed what a playmaking safety does. Lets go 25, i need my rhodes jersey back in rotation.

hartstock definitely, he’s been an impressive blocker, but the penalties are doomsday.

woodhead, keep contain on kick coverage guy. unacceptable.

we can go 5-3 to close out and finish with a winning record, and i’ll be content. to finish 9-7 with a rookie QB and HC would be a big deal and a great stepping stone.

we SHOULD however, to go 6-2. If we can overcome our constant struggle with beating teams we’re supposed to beat, then it’ll be an even better launch into next season.

I don’t know if 10-6 gets us in the playoffs though… I wonder about the AFC North, they could potentially send 3 teams to the 2nd season. I don’t think houston can hold up though, and don’t think that the fins will make a serious run.

I hope Rex knows what he’s doing giving 6 days off for the bye week.

  38. I said 9-7 in August and I’ll go with that now too.

We’ve got a young QB and a rookie HC, so growing pains were always going to happen. I guess the worst thing is that our worst games have been against the worst teams (absolute dross of Oakland apart).

Of course you could look at it another way, when we play top opposition, we raise our game. maybe when the play offs are on the line and we need to win against IND and CIN we can rise to the occasion and go 10-7 and maybe sneak it.

If not I’ll be satisfied with 9-7 and close losses to IND, NE and ATL with signs of improvement.

  39. Realisticly 8-8

    WOW 10-6

  40. Spentmiles has it right. This team is great, and it’s a little sad that as fans we are so used to losing that we can’t see that. Breaks tend to even out over the course of the season, and a lot of bad ones went against us in the first half. Every team fumbles once in awhile, but how many get returned for touchdowns? 3 in 8 games, come on. Back to back kickoff returns for touchdowns? Come on. You can say, “well, why didn’t we kick away from him.” That’s what the crappy teams have to do. We have one of the best coverage teams in the league. We don’t have to kick away from anybody. Bad luck, as much as anything, prevented this team from going 7-1, maybe 6-2. We’ve got to think that we’ll flip that and with good luck run the table, or at least 7-1.

  41. I think 5-3 the rest of the way is most likely, but i dont think 6-2 is comepletly insane.

Lets say we split vs Cincy/Atlanta 1 game is home 1 on the road. We also probably lose to the Pats.

The Colts game that everyone is counting as a loss, dont be so fast, the Colts could seriously be 14-1 going into that game and/or have no reason to play Manning and company the entire game. That division doesnt seem like its gonna make the Colts sweat out those last couple games. If they have everything wrapped up, this game suddenly becomes very winnable.

The rest of the games the Jets should…SHOULD win.

That would make them 6-2…and 10-6 can be good enough for a wild card.

  42. I’m sorry, but im not afraid of the Bengals or Falcons. The Jets can beat both of those teams, we are just as talented.

  43. Playoffs
    Colts:
    Patriats
    Steelers
    Broncos

    Wildcard
Bengals/Ravens – pittsburgh and those 2 teams will beat up on each other so only 1 will make it. Then its

Chargers, Texans, Jets and Dolphins for the last playoff spot. We can probably make it at 9-7 as long as we beat the Bengals to win the tiebreaker vs them and have the dolphins worse than 9-7 (because we have the tiebreaker already vs the texans)

  44. I’ve been looking at our play off possibilities, and the games our main rivals have, in each case, these are the most likely losses they might have:

DEN (6-1) – PIT, SD, NYG, IND, PHI – could go 10-6 – My pick 11-5
SD (4-3) – NYG, PHI, DEN, DAL, CIN – could go 8-8 – My pick 9-7
CIN (5-2) – BAL, PIT, MIN, SD, NYJ – could go 9-7 – My pick 11-5
PIT (5-2) – DEN, CIN, BAL, GB, BAL – could go 9-7 – My pick 11-5
BAL (4-3) – CIN, IND, PIT, GB, PIT – could go 8-8 – My pick 10-6
IND (7-0) – TEX, NE, BAL, TEX, DEN, NYJ – could go 10-6 – My pick 12-4
    TEX (5-3) – IND, IND, NE – could go 10-6 – My pick 10-6
NE (5-2) – IND, NYJ, NO, TEX – could go 10-6 – My pick 12-4

So if we go 9-7 (losing against NE, IND & ATL) I can’t see us getting a play off berth. At 10-6 we’d probably have to win against NE or IND to take the conference record over TEX and BAL (both at 4-2 now) or win at NE and hope that they lose their 4 tricky games and take the division on the head to head. I also hope the CIN is already in by week 17 and rests their starters to make things easier.

  45. Jacksonville W
    New England L
    Carolina W
    Buffalo W
    Tampa Bay W
    Atlanta W
    Indy W
    Cincy L

I think they will be 10-5 going into a must-win vs Cincy for the WC, be moved to 8pm, and at 1pm Miami and NE both win to knock us out of the division possibility, and we lose the play-in game to the Bengals.

Very 1997 of me, right? :)

  46. I say the record will be 5-3.

One thing I think that we should seriously stress on is the lack of impact that Kerry Rhodes has brought to the team. There was so much talk about his ED Reed like style of play but I havent seen anything like that.

He really needs to stop yapping and start acting. The team’s been so inconsistent the past few weeks after the Saints loss I cant put my finger on the actual issue. I think thats because certain aspects of the team just had bad games. So far 1 loss attributed to the D (@ Miami), one loss for the kicking game (VS Miami). Two losses go to the offense and one is squarely on Sanchez (Saints) and the Bills game.

  47. To make the playoffs at 9-7 (Good possibility) we need:

    1) beat the bengals (Good possibility)
    2) have the dolphins worse than 8-8 or worse (Good possibility)
    3) Have one of these 3 teams (Cin, Pit, Bal) at 9-7 or worse (preferably the Bengals) – (Good possibility)
    4) The chargers at 8-8 (biggest question mark
    5) The texans at 9-7 or worse (almost a definite considering their schedule)

If we get to 10-6, then we’ll definitely make the playoffs.

  48. Agree with everything you say Ronnie

  49. Ronnie, do you really think the Texans will drop that many games? I know they’re a bit erratic, but do you think they lose games like TEN, JAC, STL, SEA & MIA (their games apart from the 3 I said.)?
    I hope you’re right.

MIA’s difficult games are NE, NE,TEX & PIT

I think they lose all 4 and go 8-8

  50. 9 – 7 I agree with most of the crew here. Some of you however are completely crazy. Stay off the wacky stuff 8 – 0? Realistic Jets Fan!

    Go Jets!

  51. 9-6-1 We tie Cinci the last game of the year. 3 games over .500, I’ll take it.

If we fire Schotty at years end it will be like making the playoffs because he is a problem.

I loved the Mangini firing and Schotty should have been releasd too.

Rex can win but he has to have full control of the team decisions, and with Schotty he doesn’t.

  52. 12-4….we win out and Sanchez is rookie of the year.

  53. 8-8…A defensive failure, a Sanchez blunder, a special teams lapse, and the 4th loss will come solely on the shoulders of Schotty. I would like to be more optimistic, but I just don’t feel confident expecting a better record in the last 8 than the first 8.

  54. myles has the right attitude. That’s what we should believe will happen, if it don’t happen, it don’t happen, but to say we are gonna be 8-8 is being a pretty horrible fan. We still have half the games to be played and we are a very talented team. We should have some pride in your team and think they could run the table.

You’ll all just so scared to be let down, that you force yourselves into being Joe Bedingos. Making a mockery out of the faithful jet fans.

Hate on the team till they win? That’s a pathetic way to be a Jet fan, and you should all be ashamed.

Win, Lose, Tie. I’m gonna love this team and believe they will win the next game.

call me a optimist, call me what you like, but I just have a good feeling about the core of this team. We will be a force in the NFL.

  55. Johnny, I understand where you’re coming from, but some people just have more realistic expectations. I think many of us envy your ability to remain so strongly optimistic. I could be blindly optimistic because I’m a fan of the Jets and I want them to win it all, but when I realistically look at the way they’ve been playing, I just don’t think they’re playing consistently enough to win more than 4 of their next 8. Thinking the Jets will go 8-8 doesn’t make you a believer in the “same old Jets” philosophy.

  56. doesn’t make me*

  57. Johnny I felt that same way after the first Miami loss, then the Buffalo loss, and then the 2nd Miami loss. Hard to question fan loyalty after being burned so much this year.

  58. 10-6. Lose to NE and Indy, beat everyone else. Miss the playoffs.

  59. All of you guys are high if you think we’re going to reach the playoffs.

NO WAY WE ARE WINNING @ NEW ENGLAND
NO WAY WE ARE WINNING @ INDIANAPOLIS

Even IF we manage to win 1 of those games we lay a huge egg at Carolina and lose a tough game against L. Coles and the Bengals.

Next Year Boys! Just give in already.

  60. Sorry my mistake. Lay a huge egg at HOME against the Panthers.

  61. Well if Indy has it wrapped up it isnt unrealistic, I believe the toughest games for the Jets will be @NE, and home to ATL and CIN

  62. Folks we have to pray for a 6 – 2 ending. I think this is very realistic. I say we win out at home (carolina, atlanta. jacksonville, cincy), split on the road. Two relatively easy (although this is the Jets) road games (buffalo – nuetral site and TB). Indy may not be playing for anything, so we may be able to steal one.

Develop Pouha, Clowney, Greene, Lowery, Keller and lets watch Sanchez flourish.

Still not sold on the coach. He needs to stop trying to be the most popular guy on the team, by constantly saying he trusts the guys in the clubhouse. There is a real discipline issue with this team. He needs to make sure he puts in place fixes that stop the mistakes. Trust can only get you so far.

  63. I said on Day one that this team would be 8-8 and just miss the playoffs….So far that looks like it could happen, but you never know.

  64. IF this team believes in itself, it can go 7-1.

  65. Jets are cursed/”snake bitten” call it what you will….We beat Tampa Bay…end 5-11. Too many penalties, sloppiness, mental mistakes, poor game plan strategy in a word they have “learned” to lose – reflection of the coaching staff. Mark it…Looking forward to the Draft.

  66. 6-2 aint unreasonable….the sad part is we could easily be 7-1 right now but it really comes down to 1 or 2 plays a game that made us 4-4…if we can learn to get rid of those and finish off a game a little better during our bye 6-2 can be done…i hope so

  67. Bosox were cursed until they weren’t. Pats sucked forever until they didn’t. NY Rangers were cursed until they didn’t. Many other as well all believed in themselves to turn it around. REFUSE TO LOSE!

  68. 9-7 finish
Kerry Rhodes will not have a pick or Forced fumble but maybe he will just shut up
Sanchez gets Rookie of the year

  69. I’m going to start looking at next year. Here’s how I see it playing out:
Jacksonville – We’re bound to lose to one crappy team, its either this or Carolina, IMO
New England – I’ll believe we can sweep the Pats the day Brady retires.
Carolina – See above (Jacksonville), these two crappy teams can run
Buffalo – We dont deserve to be an NFL franchise if we lose to Buf or TB
Tampa Bay – They’re dreadful, and they have an even greener Q than ours
Atlanta – totally a 50-50 shot to win. I’ll give the edge to Hotlanta, they’re just a better team
Indy – no way, not with the way Manning’s been playing.
Cincy – If Cincy’s in the playoff hunt against Bal and Pit, and they probably will be, you gotta give the edge to Cincy.

So 3w – 5l. (7-9) with an aging, but very very promising team the next year.

    10-6 wild card………

    pretty please??!!!!………….

hoping sanchez improves as the second half is about to begin…………i will be really disappointed if he throws 20 or more picks…….

  71. yes no disipline in this team what so ever. km from rockland said it best. nobody is stateing the obvious though. kerry rhodes is one of the biggest letdowns on d. brian thomas has to go. Pouha played good sunday. i am inspired by him. goulston is ghost-ton. jim leanard does nothing but blitz .ellis played good sunday. fanaca has to go. what happened to screens and draws. when we had penny thats all we could do. now shotty got a qb that can throw he thinks he can just chuck it down the field WOW!!!!! Wheres marques douglass? wheres westerman? wheres brad smith and our wild cat? i mean the guy was a good qb be if not great one in college why not use im in some option plays, sweeps, passes ANYTHING!!!!! STOP running on first down ALL THE TIME!!!! shotty has to go .HIRE ME !!!!

    YOUR HEAD_COACH SIGING OFF……

  72. Considering that we beat those who were supposed to beat us, and then lost ’sure-fire win’ games; that we can look like a SB team one moment and a HS team the next, I’m not touching predictions on this team with a fork. The entire structure of the franchise is too volatile at the moment. This Year’s question: Who Are The Jets?

The way they’ve played so far, they absolutely can go 7-1, 4-4 or 1-7. So, I’m not going there.

Here’s what I DO want for the 2nd Half of the Year:

    1) Win or lose, I want enjoyable football that matches and honors my commitment of 3 hours spent watching on Sunday.
    2) I want solid, focused football. I don’t want to see any more self-immolation on the field or sidelines or with the roster. I want to see people playing smart, tough football. If someone beats us, fine, as long as we didn’t beat ourselves again.
    3) I don’t really care where we end up, as long as I have the chance to be anxious about a playoff spot towards the end of the season. Just to be in contention in mid- to late-Dec. would suit me just fine, with the way this year’s gone.
    4) I just wanna hold my head up when I say I’m a Jets fan.

That would mean that all the dopiness of the summer and fall was a thing of the past, and that this team had matured and come together a bit. I would like that.

  73. 12-4

  74. Oh, one more thing…

I listened on the radio (TV wouldn’t touch ‘em) to the Titans do enough losing in the early ’60s and watched those unis in the papers.

As much as I loved the old AFL, it’s time to retire those awful ‘mustard covering the hotdogs in them’ unis, and return to our rightful J-E-T-S, Jets Green and White, where we belong.

  75. WW85 is right. It is not a curse if it can end at any given time.

  76. I totally agree with mike — forget the record. Let’s win with swagger and lose with dignity. Let’s have the QB grow up in front of our eyes and become a true leader, not just a kid jumping up and down. Let’s have our HC win a game for us with an innovative approach to time management, or at least not repeat any of the mistakes he’s already made — showing he can learn unlike his predecessors who made the same mistakes over and over. Let’s see this team show that they are learning how to win, as Bart Scott says. And yes, let’s be able to hold our heads high at season’s end, whether that’s 4-12 or 12-4.

  77. We need to get back to leading games early… I know we had a 6-3 lead against Miami on sunday and a small lead against the Bills but I remember earlier this year that we had several times where we had a 10 to 14 point lead early… we need to stop having to always come from behind late in games… Schotty needs to re-work his playbook and incorporate better offensive pass plays… Sanchez shows a lot of promise and Im excited for his future with this team.

I totally agree with ferro about the throwback uni’s.. time to retire those for a good while…. The only benefit I see with them is the helmet and pant colors are different than most other teams colors making it a little easier for sanchez to see downfield and bc of this i believe the jets have worn them more often.. think about it…. our mostly white traditional helmets are more common and harder to differentiate downfield..

Jets will finish the season 9-7 and miss the playoffs…. but I’ll be feelin pretty good in the offseason for next year!

    Go JETS

  78. Mike T…great stuff, right on the money

  79. I looked at the second Miami game as a statement game. That being said, they made a statement that the Jets still have some growing to do. So go from 4 and 4 to 8 wins, maybe 9. Miss playoffs, but young players and hc get experience and they become a force next year.

  80. no mistakes 12/4 playoffs afc championship game jets 27 pittsburgh 24 in a stunner.jets in a rematch aganst the saints i believe

  81. i love jet fans, always comical! thanks for the laughs guys

  82. more like freshA-hole…

  83. I believe that the remainder of the Jets season relies on how this team responds after the bye week.If the Jets come out and lose the next game or two their season and moral will be done for..If they come out swinging and win the following game or two they will make a strong run for a playoff spot..Weather will be a major factor for Sanchez and with his already inconsistent ways can spell catastrophe for this team…Realistically i think the Jet go 5-3 at best 9-7 overall…But ya never know several games we lost in the first half of the season should have been won…

  84. freshAtroll (i just learned that word)

I will use a comparison that I think could possibly apply to what is going on with Rex.

Joe Girardi in his first year with the Yankees mismanaged some things. He over- or under-managed at times, mis-handled some media situations. It took him a YEAR to tweak a few things. Not radically change his entire approach, just a few adjustments. Paul O’Neil talked about how it just takes some time. Most Yankee fans rumbled about things he did his first year. But now with a full season under his belt and an off-season to bring his type guys (i.e Mark Texiera) he is standing at the top of the world.

That was Mangini’s downfall, he couldnt change. But it took 3 years to come to the definitive conclusion.

What Im saying is it IS possible for Head Coaches/Managers to make a few minor adjustments without completely abandoning who they truly are. Often with guys who are talented like Rex and Girardi, it can be the difference between mediocrity and greatness

  85. I actually forgive Rex for not replacing Schotty with Callahan because one of my cousin’s closest friends works for the Jets and claims that Rex would love to remove Schotty but Tanny will not allow him to do so…Actually, Tanny told Rex when he interviewed for the job that Rex had to give Schotty carte blanche on offense or he would not be hired!!!!!!!!! Supposedly, Mangini wanted Schotty out as well but Tanny nixed the idea..Mangini then began scripting the opening drives of every game on the offense and Schotty didn’t like it because Mangini’s game plan would actually work and then Schotty would go on to lay an egg on offense…Tanny protects Schotty because of Marty…Tanny even wanted Schotty to be the head coach over Rex Ryan but was afraid of negative reaction from the fans and bad press from the media…Tanny claimed that Schotty had this amazing interview which was gonna be Tanny’s lame excuse for hiring Schotty…

  86. I think you are looking at 9-7 +/- 1 game. Folks, does it really matter if we are 8-8 or 10-6 and get a WC spot only to lose in the first round? This is what I am looking for?
    - Continuing development of Sanchez and the offense with Keller, Edwards, & Cotch healthy
    - Greene getting 12-15 carries a game and showing he can be a major contributor next year even when Leon is back
    - Giving Murrell and Westermann a shot (VG I am done with)
    - Seeing how DeVito, Pouha and Pitoitua play on D-Line
    - Getting a big play or 2 from Rhodes
    - Seeing if Miller can regain explosiveness on KO
    - See if we can find a balance between run-heavy offense and giving Sanchez ability to use his weapons

  87. We go 9-7 and miss the playoffs due to all the divisional losses.

    Other Predictions:

Sanchez gets Rookie of the year.
Jones breaks 1500 Yards and 10 TDs.
We finish the year with the number 1 rushing offense.
We will lose to the Pats.
Rex will not stop shooting his mouth off, but who cares.
Kerry will get into another tumble with another player before pre-game.
Bassett will like buy a Sanchez Jersey before the year is up.
Corey will have one TJB Radio show without going off! ;)

Known fact: I will continue to be pissed off, because I lost my bet with a dolphins fan:

  88. IF THEY PUT IT ALL TOGETHER THEY COULD GO 8-0.

UNFORTUNATELY, THAT WON’T HAPPEN. I’D BE HAPPY IF THEY WIN THE GAMES THEY ARE “SUPPOSED TO”, WHICH WOULD MAKE THEM 9-7 AT BEST. AND WITH THEIR DIVISIONAL RECORD THAT MEANS NO SHOT AT THE PLAYOFFS THIS YEAR.

  89. I think the Jets will go 7-1 the rest of the way… We’ve been in every game, and it’s bound come together after the bye.

I think we will win the AFC EAST with an 11-5 record, New England will finish 10-6, Miami will finish 9-7.

It’s not uncommon for a team to get on a good run… I think the Jets are about to embark on one. Coach Ryan mentioned something telling, about the year that the Raiders made the playoffs after starting off 4-4. You see every season some team was 2-4 or 2-5 at one point of the season and turned it on… Why can’t that be the Jets.

This is the playoff picture as of today…
    IND 7-0, DEN 6-1, CIN 5-2, PIT 5-2, NE 5-2, HOU 5-3, BAL 5-3, SD 4-3, NYJ 4-4 & MIA 3-4.

I predict the final standings will be:

    1. AFC NORTH
PIT (13-3) w/ wins against DEN, CIN, KC, BAL, OAK, CLE, BAL and MIA, w/ a lose against GB

    2. AFC SOUTH
IND (13-3) w/ wins against HOU, NE, BAL, DEN, BUF and JAX w/ loses against HOU, TEN, NYJ

    3. AFC EAST
NYJ (11-5) w/ wins against JAX, NE, CAR, BUF, TB, IND and CIN w/ lose against ATL

    4. AFC WEST
SD (11-5) w/ wins against DEN, KC, CLE, DAL, CIN, TEN, WAS and loses against NYG and PHI

    5. WILDCARD #1
NE (10-6) w/ wins against MIA, CAR, BUF, JAX, HOU w/ loses against IND, NYJ, NO and MIA.

    6. WILDCARD # 2
DEN (10-6) w/ wins against WAS, KC, OAK and KC and loses against PIT, SD, NYG, IND and PHI

    Outside looking in:

    BAL 9-7
    MIA 9-7
    HOU 7-9
    CIN 8-8

  90. I can’t understand how so many FANS here say we will only lose 1-2 more games this year.

    Absurd.
    Then you woke up.
    Pigs will fly.
And Jamarcus Russel throws a 300 yard passing game.

Be realistic people. I think we will get hot but fall short.

  91. My pre-season prediction was for what I thought, considering the strength of schedule, a newbie HC & QB, a wildly overrated O-line and the lame Schott, was 5-11. I now feel that that was too harsh an assessment, so I’m revising it – all the way up to 6-10. We should be able to beat Tampa Bay and, perhaps, Jacksonville, but forget the rest.

I am, however, constantly amazed at how most of the Jets fans in here are so sure that we’re world beaters. I wish I could borrow just one pair of those rose colored glasses. Never-the-less, I’d be happy to be wrong.

  92. I would love to be wrong to but how can expect anything better than 4-4 in the second half? I agree with you Johnny. How can you guys expect 7-1 in the second half when we can’t even beat Miami? Come on put down the kool Aid guys.

  93. OK, here’s what I don’t understand. How can a team with the # 2 defense in the league; the best rushing offense; special teams that are pretty good too; and a rookie QB with talent who seems to be getting beyond his mistake ridden games come out 5-11 or 6-10. There’s just no way that should happen. While 8-0 or 7-1 for the second half surely looks overly optimistic, if the breaks even out, it could easily happen. If the breaks continue to go against the Jets, then 9-7 or 8-8 may happen. But why would fans assume the breaks are going to continue to go against us? Because they always have? We didn’t have a team with the second best defense and the best rushing offense in those years. A big losing record? It makes no sense.

  94. [...] had a post about predictions on his blog, I threw out a similar question on Twitter. You can see the interaction between the [...]

  95. Ive been a jets fan since 97 in all those i know i haven’t suffered as long as a lot of jets fans i cant help but believe that this team can win no matter what. I was ridiculed during the 4-10 and 6-10 seasons because no matter what or who we were playing i told everyone around faithfully this is the game we win, its this week that we win and i that was with bad teams. Yes this team is young Yes this team has lost some dumb games. Yes sanchez is young but lets hold out lets wait and see and have faith and believe they WILL do this they WILL make the playoffs. Its our birth right….thats how we have to start thinking..go jets and go fans they need our support…….
