Audible: What’s Cookin’? (KSK Style)

(Post flies open)

riversface

Eight games into the season and the Jets stand at 4-4 on their BYE week barely hanging on to their second place standing in the AFC East. Although there have been many errors in past games, the Jets return to face a decent mixup of teams (Jags, Bucs, Panthers, Pats, Falcons, Colts, Bengals, Bills) but one question remains:  How can the Jets begin to click once again? (maybe the above picture is something Ryan should use in his motivational Powerpoint next week).

This is where you guys come in. We here at TJB want to know what do you guys think of the Jets so far? Do you think they can still get into the playoffs? What about the 2010 draft, are there any needs you see now that can be resolved in April or through free agency? Who What Ya Got?

  1. First off…What picture is this? Anyway, Yes the Jets can still make the playoffs. I still have faith that the Jets can get it done. The Jets right now are still in the thick of things and anything can happen. THe Jets I could see go 6-2 the rest of the way. But they have to be clicking and ready to roll coming out of the buy and take out Jax at home. Indy and NE will be tough games. Just get into the playoffs anyway you can. From there we will see. GO JETS!

  2. This is Phillip RIvers, no?

  3. 6-10 w/ Schotty

    10-6 w/o Scotty

  4. Schottsuckenheimer, lol not scotty

  5. For draft its Terrence Cody 354 lb could be perfect replacement for big jinx and is perfect for 3-4 D

  6. That pic scared the crap outta me

  7. Cody would be a great replacement if they could draft him, he could really learn a lot under Jenk and eventually be the starter.

I don’t see the playoffs this year, barring some incredible second half, which if it happens, I won’t complain.

Basically I want to see the Jets draft defensive and offensive linemen. Line depth is the biggest issue with this team. DB depth wouldn’t be so bad either.

    No trading up this year.

  8. if we want to makee the playoffs we have to win against the bills jags bucs, panthers, pats, and falcons if we win these games i feel like we can make the playoffs with 10-6. the patriots if they lose to the dolphins, undeftead colts, us, the saints, and texans the patriots losing these games isn’t that carzy the dolphins are a very underrated team the colts and the saints are undefeaed so you know there good we beat the patriots already and the texans have a good offense with andre johnson and steve slaton

  9. First of all the Jets are not going 6-10. So you can stop that. Too much talent to do that. Second I think right now you have to go for the Pats this week against the Dolphins. You do not want to have a situation at the end of the season where the Jets and Dolphins are neck and neck for a playoff spot. We will not make it due to the fact we lost both games to miami. So we need to distant ourselves from the Dolphins anyway we can. Of course that is all relevant if we go on a nice run in the second half, which I am confident we will. The Pats right now are looking good and Brady is finding his stride so the division will be tough, but still do able. We have to keep pace with the Pats in the second half, and a must win in NE and Toronto. Our options are still there GO JETS!

  10. i say in the draft we get the best dt and line him up with jenkins and keep these 4 man fronts that weve been doing lately…then maybe draft fanecas replacement his age is starting to show

  11. I think it’s been said already: Draft for the trenches on both sides of the ball.
Cornerback depth would be great; I am not convinced Lowery if the long term answer as the starting CB opposite Revis. Lito and Strickland are prone to injury.
I do not expect playoffs this year.
    Playoffs? Playoffs?!

  12. Current mock drafts seem to think that Jerry Hughes can be had in the second round. I don’t know if you guys have seen TCU all that much this year, but he’s an absolute monster at defensive end. If we can nab Hughes in the second then I’d love to see the Jets maybe grab Anthony Davis or Trent Williams.

  13. Any discussions regarding this year’s playoffs are mute until this Jets team starts to show some maturity and consistency. The mark of an immature team (with talent) is one where in their losses, one unit of the team plays poorly. That’s who we are right now folks. Until Ryan takes the reigns and stamps himself as the HC over all the units, Shottenheimer’s proclivity for finesse when you are best at smash mouth will continually handcuff the team. The D is generally good and consistent; the ST is generally good and consistent (last week’s loss nothwithstanding…but the O is a crapshoot every game. Sanchez is learning, and ultimately will be an answer and not a question mark. Shottenheimer is a weekly problem. Ultimately, until he is removed, expect a weekly roller-coaster ride on O. The encouraging thing however is that we have the talent.

  14. Ahahhaahhaa this picture is hilarious reminds me of the doll chucky o.O

  15. I used to pound on Schotty all the time, but he is getting better. He cost us the Bills game & that’s it as far as I can tell. The first Miami game we got outplayed, but his playcalling was good. The Saints game I guess you could say we should have run it more, but Sanchez was playing well to that point. Miami 2: Schotty called a great game except for that 3rd down pass/sack. He definetely cost us the Bills game. If we had an OC who just ran it all the time, we’d all be howling about that. The OC has to try plays to keep the defense off guard even when it’s not our strength.

He’s not the problem this year overall. We’re just not consistent yet. Loads of talent which is not coalescing…The hallmark of Jet teams for as long as I can remember.

  16. To make the playoffs the Jets would have to beat the Patriots or the Colts, better the Patriots because a 2-4 division record wouldn’t cut it. I can’t see them getting a wild card berth with a 10-6 record because there are too many other good teams in the AFC. The Patriots have some tough games coming up and if the Jets win the Pats game, and hopefully start clicking on all cylinders they can probably put together a five game win streak (Jax, Pats, Panthers, Bills, Bucs). First things first, beat the Pats and get back to the way they were playing when they were 3-0, then it comes down to winning games when it matters the most. The first round pick has to be a defensive lineman. Ellis and Marques Douglas can go probably a a few more years, and Jenkins maybe some more than them, but they have to get younger and get deeper on the defensive line. No way they pay Sheppard that big bonus due in March, he’s gone after this year but hopefully by next year Lowery can grow into a starting role. Strickland’s injuries make cornerback depth a must, and the offensive line is holding its own but depth is key there as well. Faneca is doing well although he’s let up some sacks and Woody has been solid playing hurt. I don’t think they need to find a replacement for Jenkins right away, but they need a guy to replace Ellis or Douglas for the near future. Suh from Nebraska? I think they have to give Jones his bonus in March the way he’s playing and hold onto him for another season. Draft a defensive lineman, corner and offensive lineman in that order.

  17. We’ve seen all 3 units at their best, and their worst..
The flashes of greatness give me hope..
As long as they continue to improve week to week, we’ll be ok..

  18. I think that shottenheimer needs to go. His play calling is to pradictable, and the jets will finish 9-7 at the most. We will lose to another stupid team. Perhaps the Jags next week?

  19. I’d draft with one intention, get nastier in the trenches. Draft guys who have produced in college and will play in the NFL with a giant chip on their shoulder. I want nothing more than the Jets to become maulers on the offensive and defensive lines.

I just want a team that will come in, week in and week out and beat up other teams. Those teams usually win a lot of games.

Terence Cody, although perfectly sized to replace Kris Jenkins, has none of those qualities. He seems like he takes plays off and he doesn’t have Jenkins freakish quickness.

  20. This team needs to go 7-1 the rest of the way to make the playoffs as a wild card. With the Pats and Colts, as well as the Falcons and Bengals (yes, they’re actually good for once), that’s gonna be difficult.

The best scenario for making the playoffs at this point is beating the Patriots and taking the head-to-head tiebreaker for the sweep. Even if that happens, they’re still a game ahead, and Miami would need to be a game behind, at least, because we would lose the three-team tiebreaker on division record.

It’s not looking very good right now. For next season, the team is set up pretty well. Growing pains across the board, and the injuries, didn’t help. Need to draft, well, period. Meaning hold on to picks this time. Need depth guys at WR and DB, and some interior defensive linemen. Could draft a guy on the o-line to take the torch from Faneca or Woody when the time comes.

  21. its the midway point now and this season so far has been depressing for us JETS fans, but i do believe their may be a light at the end of the road…maybe!?! I believe if Rex actually becomes our head coach and not our head defensive coordinater then maybe we can pull it out. We’ve played everyone tough, weve just had costly turnovers which suck but this is very fixable. I expect this team to come out fired up after the bye week and start playing as a whole and not as seperate units, if we can do this we’ll beat the teams we need to beat and make the playoffs. Lets have some faith, and to the fans show up to the games lets pack the house and make some noise give these guys something to feed off of. As for the draft skrew the draft lets worry about winning with the team we have now.

  22. Pats beat the Fins then the Pats lose to the Colts and we beat the Jags to set up a showdown for first place in the division 2 weeks from now……..I wonder what the pessimists will say if that happens…..The Jets are only 1 win away from possibly playing for the division lead……

On a side note I hope the Pats destroy the Fins….I live in South Florida and as much as I hate the Pats I want nothing more than to see these Fin fans crying on monday

  23. I dont think things look better next year. There will be too many aging parts to replace. We may be slightly better only bc Sancehez gets better. We need to win now & make a run at the playoffs. These guys have to start believing in themselves.

I have to agree with Jetobsessed. We’ve seen flashes of brilliance from every part of the team, but rarely together. There is legit chance to make a playoff run if we can get all 4 wheels running at once.

  24. I think if we continue to play how we have we’ll end up 8-8 (give or take a game), but if this bye week works well for us and we can get all our units playing the best they can together we can make the playoffs and make a run in the playoffs. As stated before we’ve seen how good we can play, we just need to have them all click at once and I can see us beating any team we play.

  26. Chucky?

  27. I’ve come to this site at least 5 times today (15 hours monotonous studying) just for the picture of Phil Rivers. Never fails to crack me up!

  28. I actually forgive Rex for not replacing Schotty with Callahan because one of my cousin’s closest friends works for the Jets and claims that Rex would love to remove Schotty but Tanny will not allow him to do so…Actually, Tanny told Rex when he interviewed for the job that Rex had to give Schotty carte blanche on offense or he would not be hired!!!!!!!!! Supposedly, Mangini wanted Schotty out as well but Tanny nixed the idea..Mangini then began scripting the opening drives of every game on the offense and Schotty didn’t like it because Mangini’s game plan would actually work and then Schotty would go on to lay an egg on offense…Tanny protects Schotty because of Marty…Tanny even wanted Schotty to be the head coach over Rex Ryan but was afraid of negative reaction from the fans and bad press from the media…Tanny claimed that Schotty had this amazing interview which was gonna be Tanny’s lame excuse for hiring Schotty…

  29. FANS,

I BLEED GREEN AND WHITE LIKE ALL OF YOU! THE JETS HAVE TOO MUCH TALLENT TO BE WHERE THEY ARE AT 4-4 BUT I SEE AT LEAST 8 AND 8 MAYBEE BETTER. THATS NOT BAD FOR A ROOKIE QB AND COACH. WHEN WE CAN GIVE THE BALL TO MARK AND SAY WIN THE GAME THEN THINGS WILL GET MORE EXCITING. THAT SHOULD BE NEXT SEASON.

  30. They’re going to go 4-4 again in the second half and end up 8-8. I’m sure they’ll win one of the games we all figure they’d lose (to instill us with false hope) and then tank it against a beatable opponent. All of the games will be competitive and come down to the end where they’ll find unique ways to lose as is their way… I’ve been watching this same movie for 30+ years — predictable yet entertaining.

  31. haters haters haterrrrrrrrrs

thats to all you pessimistic jet fans. stop hating and start loving.

  32. Question: If a talent like Bama LB Ronaldo McClain falls to us, do we pass up the opporunity? He’s much better than Thomas and perhaps even Scott although he have more pressing needs.

A lot of size coming out of the OL department with talent scattered here and there.

Could be some interesting DL prospects out there although I’d like to seem some wingspans measured. Might have to draft a college DT and convert him to DE (Nebraska’s Suh and OU’s Gerald McCoy are good examples). I really want Vol Eric Berry. I know he plays SS, but I bet he has the talent and speed to be moved around in the secondary.

That said, I still feel like we can scrap out a shot at the playoffs. Just gotta roll this second half!

  33. we need the Dophins to beat the Pats then we beat then the game after. let us all fight it out till the end like last season and hope we are not the odd one out.

Jets need DE(pass rusher),OLB and CB. i like Dunlap,Greg Hardy and T.Cody in this draft.

i dont think the jets should use anything higher than a 6th pick on a O-lineman. We can pick one up as a free agent.

jets also need to cut Fanecas pay.

  34. 9-7

…and we get rid of Shotty for next season (maybe Dan Snyder hires him as the HC of Redskins and pays him three times what he’s worth!)

  35. No, the Jets will not make the playoffs.

As an aside, we were running the ball so effectively last week and got away from in the Rad Zone and it cost us. I like Schotty, but until teams stop our running game, you have to keep running.

2010 Draft Selection: With Big Jenks out, you have to think about Terrence Cody, NT, Alabama. He is a potential game changer and the type of player you build a 3-4 defense around.

  36. My gut says 9-7, miss the playoffs by one game due to one of the 3 terrible losses to the Phins and Buffalo. They will be respectable and in the hunt until the last week of the season. Rex, Chez and the lesser experienced guys will learn a lot from this season and be a dangerous team next year. Schotty moves on to another team, Cavanaugh or Callahan replaces him as OC.

In terms of the draft I think the Jets will go defense early, Id like a D-lineman to replace Ellis or Jenkins in the future or another CB to help D-Rev on the other side. Cody will be a monster, if he is still there.

In terms of free agency, the only thing Id say Im pretty confident in is that we will get a lot of re-treads from Balt I dont mean star players but guys who were back-ups in Rex’s system.

With that said, 10-6 is not impossible by any means, and the Jets are still very much alive and outright dangerous if they can get put out an effort any where close to Weeks 1-4

  37. It is essential that Cody works on his conditioning and potentially cut weight if he wants to be successful in the NFL. I’m not sure he would exactly “replace” Jenkins either as he brings a dissimilar skill set to the table

  38. Ok, the Patriots beat the Dolphins and moved another game ahead of the Jets in the AFC standings as well as in the division records. Look on the bright side, the Fin’s were finally shut up and Porter had zero tackles. We both have to play the rest of the season, I’d rather have your schedule than ours but I like the Pat’s chances, we’ll see what happens but (you had to see this coming) we beat the team that swept you. Good luck guys.
