Transcript: Braylon Edwards, 11.9
On his role in the last eight games of the season…
I’m in here to do what they need. They have other weapons and other guys are going to be the focus of some plays and some game plans. I’m just here to do what they need, whether it is third down, beginning of the game, end of the game, in the red zone, blocking, wherever they need me I’m here for them. I’m here to help these guys win games this year.
On the touchdown in last week’s game against the Dolphins…
For me it was a statement of my will and determination. It’s a new attitude I have playing football. Being in a place where I am happy and comfortable, that’s the kind of effort and desire that I have for this team. Those are the plays that I want to continue to make to show these guys that I belong and that I’m happy I’m here.
On his future with the Jets…
I really like this situation. I like the organization from top-to-bottom. I like the players, I gel well with these guys. I like the city (and) everything about this situation. I’d like to be here, a Jet after this year, so for me I’m going into it giving it all that I have, show that I deserve to be here and that I’m the type of player that they can count on, that they can depend on. Going in week-in and week-out, Monday-Sunday, I am trying to do everything I can the right way to prove to these guys who I am and I’m the guy that they need.

Maybe we will get a “hometown discount” with Edwards? Like Moss, he may not be all that interested in a top money contract, just in the neighborhood. Although, I expect Chad Henne to plead for his Wolverine pal.
I hope we can sign him. I wonder if they would franchise him? I’d like to sign Richard Seymour too.
I think the Jets need to keep him for the future. It is a no brainer to me. We fill the #1 Wideout postion, and comin in the draft we can focus on retooling the o and d lines as opposed to worry about a WR.
richard seymour would be an interesting signing, just because i feel like he may want to “stick it” to the pats for trading him away…low risk, high reward?
They may franchise him if they can’t work out a deal. He is the kind of talent that you just don’t go out and find every season. If Henry Ellard can continue to work with him and make him more consistent, he will be a top tier WR for a long time.
As for Seymour, mehhhhh he’s 30 and will be looking to cash in one final time before he retires. While he’s a great player, we should probably look to upgrade that spot (although Ellis and Douglas have been doing a pretty good job) in the draft.
I’ve heard Merriman is likely gone from the Chargers…”Lights Out” at the WILL might be what the Jets need.
Sign him, but only for the right price. He still drops alot of balls.
I think this is crucial for the Jets this upcoming offseason. Braylon Edwards was a great trade ONLY if the Jets can manage to re-sign him. He fits the bill for the #1 stud WR we have been looking for, and the Jets cannot afford to let him go.
Sack,
That’s the rumor going around, but could the Jets afford to take on Merrimans contract when they are already paying Gholston, Pace and Thomas to pay the same position? I would love to sign Merriman, start him at the WILL, and start Pace on the opposite side, but I dont know if it is feasible.
On a side note about his former team, yet again they don’t know who their starting QB for Sunday will be. I can see why Mangini wants to keep it such a secret, this way when he announces the starter an hour before kickoff, the Ravens will be like “crap, and to think we prepared for Derek Andersen, and we’re gonna get Quinn. What the hell do we do now?”
I still say the Browns should start Ratliff! He probably has some timing with Stuckey too!
How much of a cap hit would it be if we cut Gholston?
Sign this dude to a long term contract.
Edwards, and J-Co
ohhh baby, as we seen a bit last week. Sanchez will have a great time with these two WRs
Cutting Gholston would result in a pretty big cap hit, and we’re probably stuck with him. Unless some unforseen “accident” should happen with Vernon Gholston…..
I think the cap hit with Vernon “Ghoston” is something like $10 mill in 2010 and $7 mill in 2011, so basically we are stuck with this deadbeat for at least 2 more years after this season……….Forget about signing Merriman…………We’ll barely be able to sign Edwards to a reasonable contract reflecting his reduced value………
Signing BrayBray to an extension should be priority #1 in the offseason, IMO. They need to extend Leon too, but IMO there will be less competition for his services so they can afford to wait a bit more. Braylon and Sanchise look like they’re developing a strong rapport and they could be a lethal combination for the next 5-10 years if the Jets play their cards right.
sign em!!! (and leon too)
Leon and Braylon are 1 and 1A in terms of guys to re-sign
After the catch he made in the Phins game, I got all the answers I needed about his attitude and willingness to do whatever it takes to win.
Guy is a stud and actually still improving
