WOJF, is that team going to be up and running by next season? No. The only real threat I think is Miami because it has his college QB. But he really seems to love NY and Rhodes is one of his best friends, so, barring something unforeseen, we have to be the favorites to bring him back. God, I hope we bring him back.

To clarify, I DO want them to sign him, I just dont think they will be getting a discount and believe there still remains some risk he reverts to his prior off field behavior once he is shown the money.

I truly believe Edwards wants to be here, and am aware Jets retain his rights in certain circumstances, but lets be clear, IF he becomes free the Jets will not be getting a NY discount.

While he has off field interests that make NY a nice option, there are other towns that serve him just as well.

Miami is a perfect fit, as will the potential new LA team.

And if they tender him and hold him to it, his team first attitude may disappear in a hurry.

Lets be real, his choir boy behavior has to do more with this being a contract year than his wanting to be a Jet for life. He will follow the money.

If anyones interested, SI.com has their midseason awards and predictions. Mangold, Harris, and Revis were on the all-pro team, and they counted Revis as an “outside the box” MVP candidate.

Misery – an uncapped year doesn’t save the Jets from the dead money when Gholston (or anyone else) is cut. The cap hit bites in the next capped year.

Next season is Ellis’ last under his current deal. At a salary of $3.335mil he has a reasonable salary as well. What I can see them doing is signing him an extension at a reasonable salary, but his cap figure isn’t crippling and he is a very valuable asset to this defense, especially as the D-line transitions to (hopefully) a younger core of players.

Well, they should at least sign Ellis to a more reasonable deal. Thomas is a waste at this point, if it’s an uncapped year or he’s a free agent then they should cut him. Heck, if it’s an uncapped year they should cut Gholston as well.
