While all we’ve seen is a model citizen since his move to New York, one “high-ranking” NFL official is waiting for the other shoe to drop for Braylon Edwards, according to the Post.
… one high-ranking NFL source familiar with the goings on in Cleveland warned about Edwards, “One day you get Good Braylon and the next you get Bad Braylon.”
But there’s been no sign of Bad Braylon since Edwards got here. He has 13 catches for 192 yards and two touchdowns in his four games with the Jets and, though he has a couple of drops, he quickly picked up the system thanks to a lot of behind-the-scenes extra work.
That’s something that Rex Ryan’s brother, Rob, the Browns defensive coordinator, said would never be a problem with Edwards.
Edwards, who is in the last year of his contract and is reported to be seeking some $9 million a year in a new deal, will be a restricted free agent after the season unless there’s a new Collective Bargaining Agreement struck before then. He obviously wants a long-term deal, but the Jets could simply give him a one-year tender offer of about $5 million to retain his rights. If that transpires, it’ll be interesting to see how Edwards reacts.
Good Braylon and Bad Braylon?
Reminds me of a scene in one of my favorite/worst movies of all time.

Good, bad … I’m the one catching TDs in New York.
It bears watching to be sure. Receivers are known for their polar personalities, so let’s see how this all plays out for the Jets, but it’s fair to say that it might get ugly based on Tannenbaum’s track record. $9 million per season doesn’t seem like a lot when you consider what Laveranues Coles was looking for this past offseason — a deal averaging $7 million per.
The Jets do try to maximize their cap space in whatever ways, and one major way that manifests is in not paying players top dollars until the have to. With a possible uncapped year coming, the Jets might try to frontload as much of an offer as they can on Edwards, or they can RFA tender or franchise him and see how that plays out as well.
Still Edwards is a very unique talent, and they’ve already given up a lot to get him. Guys like Faneca, Pace and others have shown that the Jets will pay a lot for players they think are worth it, so if they consider Edwards in that category, they’ll back the truck up. With a young QB who could really benefit from someone of Edwards ability, it seems doable.

If he is an RFA for two more years, the Jets could split the difference with him for the next two years and give him a lot of money as bonus money, up front with a second bonus for the mid point of the second season and have the deal run a higher salaries for later years (3-5).
The risk to the Jets would be minimal; no way will the part with a second or third round pick without at least tendering him the full amount to lock him up.
Structuring the bonus money that way would ensure if he goes bad or gets hurt, we are only hurt one season not three or more.

Braylon has said and done some things in the past that are always going to make people wonder. But from what I ve seen of him since he came over, he is the kind of receiver that the Jets have been missing for a long long time. I dont think Tanny would have made this trade if he didnt intend to lock him up long term.
The guy is on a team where he WANTS to be a part of it. Some guys just need a change of scenery and as they make mistakes and get older, they learn from them. Regardless of the past, the guy has been a great player and teammate with the Jets. So far he has earned the right to be compensated

Braylon’s a stud WR, with a stellar college resume and is just entering the prime of his career. Since the only way to replace him would be to spend as much or more money on a comparable UFA or move up to a top 5 pick in the draft, I think the Jets have to sign him. If he takes less than elite WR money to stay, then it’s a no-brainer and an absolute fleece of the Browns. Cleveland was a nightmare for Braylon. In NYC and with a Namath-Maynard relationship with Sanchez, Braylon could get the recognition that he’s always wanted. So, it’s also a no-brainer for him to stay and, IMO, there’s only 1 team that will make a run at him: the Fins. Henne threw 15 TDs to him in his frosh year at Michigan…I think he’ll be lobbying the FO. I’d much rather watch Braylon catch passes for us; the only time I want to see Revis covering him is in training camp, not twice a year against the Fins.

Evil Dead 2 was better.

Braylon Edwards, of he NY Jets sent Rihanna a $10,000 bottle of champagne while at LA hot spot, “The Bank” … she sent it back because she didn’t know who he was.

HHH:
It sounds like Braylon has not refrained from his wicked, wicked ways. His partying times might be OK as long as he stays away from the snow!!!
-
yea.. but to me a funniier part iz she sent it bak cuz she dnt know who he was lol
-
That is incredible, to send back a $10 thou bottle and not even bother to find out who he was.
Still though, Braylon was known in Cleveland for his ablity to Party Hearty.
Or maybe she did but his reputation preceded him.

He is going to be very, very tempted by Henne, Miami, their entertainment industry owners and South Beach.
That is the genius of them bringing those folk into the fold.
Don’t be surprised if the Cleveland Braylon returns if he is tendered.

WOJF:
South Beach !!! South Beach !!!
I haven’t been to 1st Ave or Soho or the Village in 10+ years.
But I can tell you without a shredd of doubt, there is NOT a place in the WHOLE US to party like South Beach. Case closed !!!

I give Braylon credit, if you are gonna get rejected by a chick at least let it be by a gorgeous, long legged, world famous RnB “sensation’ ( haha sensation)
All that crap means nothing, I saw all I needed to see when he carried two DBs into the endzone…
Wise Old-Braylon aint goin to Miami, that place can party (WMC in South Beach took 5 years off my life probably) but NO PLACE in the world can you market yourself like NYC! You can make more money here than anywhere, every athlete knows it…just ask ARod

I kinda hope we get Al Toon’s son after reading that article

If we want our franchise QB to grow quickly, he needs an elite receiver with him.
Peyton Manning had Harrison
Roethlisberger had Ward
Rivers had Gates
Cutler had Marshall
Eli had Burress
Cotchery is a solid NFL receiver but not on the level of the players above. Edwards can be on that level.
