Film Room: Whoopsy Daisy

I don’t know if there are fans as deluded to think this, but just in case, here’s some fodder should you run into a Skins or Broncos fan trying to tell you Champ Bailey is still the best cover corner in the league and Darrelle doesn’t belong in the conversation.

Then you can show them something like-a-this … Darrelle’s latest opus.  Too bad it came against a terrible QB.

Hat tip to KSK for the Bailey highlight.

  1. In addition…Darrelle has shown he is a very good tackler.
Just another part of his all-around game. He really is a complete CB, I’m not sure what his weakness is? maybe releasing to a saftey too soon? ;)

  2. the good REVerend! pray when you throw against him, quarterbacks!

  3. Anyone interested in his Bobblehead?

  4. I think Revis is great, great, great. Bailey has been great. I don’t know if he still is, I just don’t see him enough. Regardless, it’s silly to pick out one play as indicative of anything. Being a CB in the NFL means that every once in a while you’re going to get toasted. It comes with the job. Yes, Revis is now one of the leagues best but he sure didn’t look like it when Ginn ran right by him for a long TD. Being a CB is tough. You’re on an island going one on one against some of the best athletes in the world. Sometimes your going to lose. Bailey put his head down on that play and Ward (to his credit) made him look foolish. On it’s own, it doesn’t say anything about Bailey’s overall skills.

  5. Bailey is a shadow of his former self, not terrible but no longer can be considered a top echelon shutdown guy IMO.

  6. Ive been fuming for the past 2 years that Revis wasnt getting the respect he deserved, and it was why I canged my name on this site to JesusRevis. Now that Darrelle is getting the recognition he deserves, theres not much work left for me to do. I’m getting bored.

  7. It gets mighty lonely for WRs out on Revis-Island….

  8. Bent……..you can’t be serious

  9. You don’t think he’s lost a step at 31?

And don’t call me Shirley. Oh, right…you didn’t.

  10. Anyone would lose a “step” due to age…..but c’mon now, you’re underselling the man terribly, he is STILL an elite corner and in many NON jet fans eyes a top 2 or top 3 corner in the league in regards to Aso. So to call him a shell of his former self and decent enough to not be calles “terrible” is clearly naïve. I love Revis just as much as any other jet fan but as a NY fan I think we should pride our selves on rational and factual comments, its all good tho Bent, lol.

  11. ridinmywave,

I don’t think it’s naive to say that Bailey is overrated. He definitely is. at one point he was in that “do not even think about my side of the field” level of play. He clearly is not there now. I’d rank quite a few cb’s ahead of him, but still probably would have him in my top 15. He’s not the same player he was, and that’s not Jets homerism, because Revis is only one CB and I think there’s a lot that are better than Bailey now.

  12. Watch any Broncos game and youll see Bailey get beat a bunch of times. Watch any Jets SEASON and you may see Revis get beat a few times.

Bailey is still a very good corner, but he clearly isnt as good as he used to be

  13. Maybe my choice of words was poor. I mean he’s regressed from a 9/10 to a 7/10 not like a 3 or 4 or something like that.
