Jamarcus Russel? Vernon Davis’ light didn’t go on until this year. Vince Young is still not fully developed.

Fact is there are some players who take longer to develop than others (both Young & Davis were physical beasts who needed years to develop their NFL skill sets). It’s still too early to write off Gholston.

Been calling it from day 1 – Ghostman is a bust and I can’t believe we wasted a damn #6 pick on him… Can’t afford to blow that high a pick, even Robertson paid some dividends, but Ghostman is def in the discussion for worst top 6 pick in recent drafts… he’s that bad…

And please stop the but-he’s-only-23 and give-him-a-chance talk. B.U.S.T.

Its till confuses me when people question B Scott and K Rhodes.

I know they talk alot but the defense is the strongest it has been for this franchise in years but fans still whine about certain players??

B Scott has done exactly what he was brought here to do and last game when we played more 4-3 he had a huge sack late in the game…..j

I would say Miami was a much bigger challenge in our post-Jenkins era than Jax. Miami mauled our front 7 in the Monday Night game, with Jenkins still playing, and then the next time they played we absolutely stopped their running game. Yes, you can point to the fact they had 3 scores without having to drive, taking away from their possessions and rushing totals, but their two headed RB monster rushed 19 times for 54 yards (2.8 yards per carry). And it was evident that the game in Miami was more of an anomaly than anything else because the D-line owned the line of scrimmage and we were constantly in the backfield.

Either way, this will be another good test with a powerful RB. And once again your assessment on Scott’s role and ability is way off base.

I strongly disagree. Scott’s key role as the primary TED linebacker is to occupy blockers and enable the MIKE to play in space. If the Jets stop the run, then that means Scott probably did his job (especially if Harris makes a lot of plays), even if he ends up with zero tackles.

This Sunday when the Jets face the Jaguars they will be feeling the loss of Kris Jenkins more than any game this season. The jaguars offensive line and Maurice Jones Drew run very well when it comes to smashmouth football. Scott’s role will be crucial in this game. From Sunday’s game we can determine how strong the jets run defense is. If Harris is the only player getting tackles in the middle like he has been doing for several weeks now then Scott is a weak link. Scott was brought to the jets to help them contain the run. It was an piece missing from the jets for some time. If he cannot prove himself in this game then he can talk all he wants but he will be a below average linebacker in this league until he retires. Even an average linebacker must be able to get himself in the gameplan and help shut down the run.

Note: we think that’s the case, but there are conflicting reports on it. There should definitely be no acceleration of signing bonuses in an uncapped year, but the Jets haven’t paid Gholston all of his guaranteed money yet. I think there will be a penalty in 2011 (ie, they won’t avoid the dead money altogether), but it will at least be reduced by the cap charge that would arise in 2010. Whether they can increase that by advancing him money, I’m not sure.

It’s not great business to have a huge chunk of dead money in a year when you are trying to maximise resources to get deep into the postseason, so the Jets still might be better off retaining him, even if his contribution is nothing like what they envisaged when they drafted him.

Vernon was a bust from the introduction of him being our 1st pick. Cut our losses now. Why pay that much for 3rd rate.

Johnny Hector thanks for the level head.
While I am not thrilled with Gholston’s performance, how many people remember Bryan Thomas’s second year? If I remember correctly not only was he ineffective, he developed an eating disorder and shed something like 20 lbs while riding the pine.
He seemed to work out fine after that.
If you guys want to throw Gholston under the bus a la Hugh Douglas and Jonathan Vilma, I say your nuts!
