Leon Talks About His Injury and Contract

by Bassett on November 13th, 2009 at 9:00 am

Leon spoke for the first time to the press this week, probably in part because he’s from Jacksonville, and partly because his routine is now getting stabilized for him. Here’s what Washington had to say about his injury.

“Getting injured was the last thing on my mind,” Washington said. “When it happened after my first carry of the game, I was almost in shock. It really didn’t hurt that much. I felt a pop in the leg. It felt like slow motion, like it came 10 second after the guy rolled on my knee.

“I could feel my right leg dangling by itself. I was real nonchalant, thinking, ‘I broke my leg.’

Goo.

It’s bad enough seeing the video, but hearing that sounds awful. It’s good to hear that he’s kept a good perspective and later in the article he talks about his contract status. The article notes that his recovery could take “6-12″ months, and that seems like a wide swath of recovery time. Here’s to hoping that it’s the six month version, as 12 would basically place him on the PUP list for the whole summer and early part of the season. That he’s not thinking back about his contract issues is good, but it’s one thing to say it to the press and quite another to live with it.

We wish Leon a quick and speedy (get it?) recovery.

Hopefully, Leon will be back next season…For now, sign Larry Johnson!!!! He’ll run through the Patriots next Sunday and put the Jets back in first place…Thomas Jones needs help and Greene (whom I think will be really good next season) is not ready yet..

When you take a guy who’s skill is his legs and speed and then he has a brutal break…… uh… not good.

I dont question his drive to get back but this sounds like a big road to recovery for leon.

Lets say its 10 months to when he can start football activity….. Thats not counting over a year layoff from football shape and doing what he does cutting and stopping.

Maybe its just me but this sounds pretty bad if we expected the “same” Leon for 2010.
