A Rooting Guide For Sunday
It’s the second half of the season, which means one thing: teams are thinking playoffs. The Jets, at 4-4, have seven weeks left and realistically need help to have a shot at the playoffs. So, who should you be rooting for this weekend? The always helpful Fifth Down Blog has the answer:
STEELERS (6-2) over Bengals (6-2) in Pittsburgh. The Jets have to hope the Steelers pull away in the A.F.C. North at the expense of the Bengals. Why? Because the Jets will finish the season with a game against Cincinnati. If that game has playoff implications for the Jets, at least they will be able to take matters into their own hands. The Jets do not play the Steelers this season.
COLTS (8-0) over Patriots (6-2) in Indianapolis. It is a given that Jets fans will root against the Patriots every week. Here, there’s a little extra incentive: A New England loss coupled with a Jets victory over Jacksonville would set up a first-place showdown between the Jets and Patriots next weekend in Foxborough.
EAGLES (5-3) over Chargers (5-3) in San Diego. No need to worry about the N.F.C.’s Eagles, and if a Philadelphia win hurts the Giants, too bad. The Giants had their chance to help themselves and the Jets last week against the Chargers but lost in the final minute. The Jets do not play San Diego this season.
…
BROWNS (1-7) over Ravens (4-4) in Cleveland. It is O.K. to root for this Brady, as in Brady Quinn, who will be making his first start since Week 3 with the hope of jump-starting the Browns’ woeful offense. And it’s O.K. to root for the former Jets coach Eric Mangini, who needs all the support he can get these days.
You know, it’s funny that we’re sitting here talking about the division, but the New England-Indy game should have every Jets fan glued to their set Sunday night. All of this, of course, assumes that the Jet stake care of business Sunday afternoon and handle their end of this arrangement. If the Jets win, it coul dbe quite a showdown next week in Foxborough.

All of them are possible except the Browns game, they have a 99.99999 percent chance of getting blown out in that game.
don’t tell that to hank and fonzie, nyckage. they’re under the impression that this is all but decided already.
its amazing with all that has gone on this season theres a good chance we could be tied for the division lead (technically leading the division) going into next week. Theres a golden opportunity here, i think weve had our share of dissapointment for the year, now they really need to come through. You cant ask for a better opportunity considering all thats happenend
Yea totally agree…its crazy that we still have shot….but the only game I will be watching tomorrow is the jets cuz if they lose than none of this matters…
we cannot lose tomorrow….. we will not lose tomorrow…. Garrard will find himself on the bench by the 4th quarter!
jets all the way…to the playoff…whooooo
Garrard will find himself on his back in the first quarter.
Listen , I’m usually overly optimistic, but I love how so many people assume the pats game is a gimme!! I’ll believe it when I see it!
As for tommorow… Shouldn’t be a problem!
I am usually the pessimist but this just shapes up as one of those weeks, Jets win handily, not in a blow out as Jax will run the ball and try to keep it close and if nothing else Garrard can manage a game, so the will struggle through halftime but pull away late for a 27-17 victory.
Then its nap time for this old codger so I can stay awake for the Sunday night showdown.
im thinking 27 – 9 jets win
jones drew 64 yards 1 fumble
garrard 134 yards, 10-34, 2 ints
sanchez 211 yards, 22-41, 2 td’s 1 int
jones 144 yards, 1 td
greene 92 yards
braylon 2 td’s 97 yards
jcotch 4 receptions 47 yards
jets 5-4 going in to play the patriots at 6-3.
Nothing else matters unless Jets win their game……Let’s hope the season at least stretches into December before our chances are gone……….Let’s win one we’re supposed to win at home………Just like Sexy Rexy said, “there are no excuses”………..Let’s get it on for 1 pm and take ‘em down!!!…………Then we can all enjoy everything that much more after………
You’re dead on except Sanchez 212 yards, not 211
Other than the Colts beating the Patriots I would not worry about any rooting interests right now. I think we actually control our own destiny since the Steelers still play the Ravens twice and Bengals once and San Diego plays the Bengals.
These all seem long shots, be must haves .
I am all about that cinci game being meaningfull, cause ill be there. I think it will be meaningfull, and an real battle .
we need to take one game at a time forget about eveybody else if we are 1-0 sunday night then we start looking at patriots which play at night and jets next sunday i at a time
Joey Porter has been benched by Sparano.
LMFAO
I will be at the game tomorrow, just got free tickets from my boss, f’n sickkkk.
section 137 row 38 any of you homiez wanna beer or a toke come find me.
BOTTOM LINE: IF the JETS lose sunday,OUR season is OVER. THAT being said,my PREDICTION………………J-E-T-S- 23 jags- 20
I haven’t said anything for a while; was too embarrassed by the loses to Buffalo and Miami. Them bums better not throw this one. One interesting note: I heard our run defense is actually better since the departure of Big Jenkins….We’re also getting our money’s worth with Lito Sheppard, lol. Great deal man.
Get loud out there NY! Its a must win!!!
Another thing: Tomlinson has 91 attempts for 289 yards and 3 touchdowns. Cheers! Horah! Horah! Looks like Curtis Martin’s record of consecutive thousand yard seasons (10) is not in danger. I wonder with the two back league nowadays will his record be in jeopardy; the leading RB can stay healthier…I guess it depends on how good the teams is. Adrian Peterson scares me.
LaDainian is behind the 8 ball; he’s not going to do jack against the run defense of Philadelphia, ha ha!
the defense has to watch out for 2 people…. jones drew, which is a given…but also revis has to stay on sims-walker, i’ m telling you this kid can play… the games in the defenses’ hands today boys… J-E-T-S ALL THE WAY BABY!!!!!
If we can hold MJD out of the endzone, run the ball like we have been, Chez makes a few throws, WE WIN-that simple
Peyton beats Brady tonight in the dome. Petyon is the GOAT,if was on the Pats they would win the SB every year barring injuries
I am rooting for Schotty to get locked in the coaches office for the first half , so that we can have a lead going into the second half.
Jets 34
Jagoffs 9
Jets inactives: QB K. O’Connell, CB A. Carroll, J. Miller, V. Gholston, R. Fowler, M. Slauson and WR D. Woodhead.
E. Ainge is the third QB.
