tell that to polamalu.... darren sharper , lawrence taylor etc. etc .etc ......

football is not baseball ... trying to pull a hr out at will ... in nothing like stripping a football ... imposing your will is what football is about ....

mangini 's defenses were a perfect example of waitin for things to happen and not making them happen ...

John,

Actually, I agree with Drew's analogy. In baseball, when you are trying to hit a home run, you take more risks and let fundamentals slip. When you're trying to force turnovers and score TD's on defense, then you start to take risks you wouldn't normally take and fundamentals take a back seat. In both cases, if the players just let it happen and don't press, then it will happen eventually and they won't give up big plays (or big strikout #'s) in the process.

Maybe if our O played a little D and stopped GIVING up so many points we would not be 4-4

I see know why Pete Carroll didnt want Sanchez to leave. USC has fallen off the map. The offense and defense have vanished

They got destroyed by Stanford today.

whats the big deal with turnovers? i mean this defence is great. they shouldnt worry about it if it happens it happens. i understand about the momentum shift but its true its like trying to hit a hr in the bottom of the 9th. just get a single and youll be fine. regardless i think we have the best D in the league and we will make the playoffs...go jets!!!!

Yes, but score from the defense in either of those games would have made a tremendous impact. It's not that they weren't trying, but like Bart said, they dropped some easy Pick 6's in the 1st half .

It's not just about the points on the board that a TD on D provides. The momentum shifts when the Saints and Dolphins both score off turnovers completely changed those games. The Sharper INT particularly because the Jets were about to go in for some sort of score.

Defensive TDs are part of a big time defense -- be it Baltimore, Pittsburgh, or whoever. That the Jets are the only team without a defensive score and have only 58 yards off turnovers is something that can be definitely improved.

Every little bit helps when you have an offense with rookie QB that struggles at times to move the ball. The truth is that this defense has a lot of playmakers and I think all Scott was saying was that they know they have oto much ability to have not taken at least one back.
