Link: How ‘Bout A Little Sack Lunch

So we all know the Jets like to blitz on third down. Truthfully, everyone in the world knows the Jets like to blitz on third down. However, did you know exactly how much the Jets send extra men on the offense’s last chance? Scout.com figured it out.

Out of 82 third-down pass plays that they’ve defended this year, the Jets have blitzed 63 times for a league-high 76.8 percent. That pressure has yielded five sacks, resulting in a 7.9- percent sack rate.

The Pittsburgh Steelers are second in blitz frequency on third down at 67.4 percent, tallying a sack on 6.5 percent of those plays. And although the Philadelphia Eagles are third at 55.2 percent, their efforts have resulted in the best success rate of the three teams at 12.5 percent.

While certainly not as successful as the standard that is the Steelers, common sense says that the more you send, the more you’re going to be successful. The Jets have gotten much better at rushing the passer in the past few games and I’ll be interested to keep track of how the Jets do in the second half.

  4. Rex is on the decline. 1 for 6 in recent games. Where can he find culprits? The first place to look is the offensive play calling. The first play of the game was so ill advised one must question if Schottenheimer is really just out of touch with the abilitys and (at least at this time of the season) with Sanchez. As well Cotchery was covered. So once again we knowlingly call a play that not only did not work but left the momentum with the Jaguars the rest of the way. Maybe Rex needs more responcibility and should assume the offensive play calling. Could he handle Sanchez worse? Why do we ask the QB to make a deep throw into coverage and give up a pick (how many so far given up)? A few points : why is there no separation? Sanchez could have held the fake longer, rookie mistake. Why not instead opening the game with a ver well established weapon. The running game. Work in thre rookie slowly. Short open passes. It seems like there is very little effort to create pass plays to open players. It is getting tiring of watching the team lose to teams you should win. Rex please take control. We did not bring you in to be apologetic and political in the post games show. You came in with alot of fire an brimstone it seems now you have delegated responsibility and want to be a nice guy and live by your decissions. If you do that you will lose the chance to see what can happen if you act and get tough. Bench a guy. Hey even throw in Clements. But watch the offensive play calling. Dont throw so much. Throw off the run. You have a line to do it. . Please dont let schott call a play so risky that when it fails please do not underestimate the emotional effect on the defense as they run on the field saying under their breath,” here we go again” . Win games smart. Run alot. Keep the defense fresh (off the field). Forget the playoffs, think of the teams future. Smart play not desperation heaves. Wow be your self. If Tuna were through what this teams recent past there would be no question he would clampling down and assuming play calling. Please Rex, Please. Please?
