Game Recap: Not Nearly Enough
It’s in the nature of fans to be optimistic. Even often disappointed Jets’ fans are subject to the influence. This past two weeks, the bitter taste of the last five games gradually slipped quietly out of the minds of Gang Green accolytes and was slowly replaced by a honeyed nectar of hopeful expectations. By game time, many Jets’ fans were confidently expecting an easy win. Unfortunately, nobody told the Jaguars.
Jets’ fans may have forgotten that the Jaguars had hope, too. Both teams fighting for a spot on the playoff-maybe list, the Jaguars came into the Meadowlands thinking they were also good enough to win. For the first two quarters, it looked like they were right.
In the early going, the Jets looked a day late and a dollar short on every unit. The offense again had no rhythm. Sanchez had happy feet, and he missed wide open receivers on the first three series accounting for an interception on the first play, and only ten points on the next two against a defense that showed no playmaking ability. While Thomas Jones ripped off big chunks every time he carried, there seemed no sustained inclination to run the ball down the defense’s throat—again.
On defense, the Jets were shredded by Jones-Drew right up the middle run after run, 55 yards on the first drive alone which ended with a 33 yard touchdown. He had 78 yards rushing in the first quarter. Meanwhile David Garrard kept making plays, including running for a touchdown, and looked the far more poised quarterback on the field.
On special teams, the Jags looked a lot closer to breaking one than the Jets, who benched Justin Miller for the game.
By the end of the first half, the Jets had been convincingly outplayed and trailed 21-13. It could have been worse. The Jags missed a 49 yard field goal.
So, that is where the season hung. Down by eight. Playing poorly against a team that was executing better than they were. Missing tackles. Failing to exploit their advantages. A quarterback who needed a checkup from the neck up. A defense that was being flat out dominated. An offense that has no motor.
Where it went from there would determine the season. A win, and they’re in the conversation. A loss, and it’s better luck next year.
The third quarter was awful to watch but it didn’t change the score at all. The first series of the second half for the Jaguars, three and out. So far so good but the Jets can’t do any better and have to punt. The Jags go three and out again and with the exchange of punts the Jets get the ball back on the Jacksonville 45. Looks good, right? Except the offense couldn’t see it. First down holding. First and Twenty. Second down Sanchez throws it right into the arms of a Jacksonville rusher, Groves, and he runs it back to the Jets’ four yard line. Then, just as things look the darkest, Jones-Drew fumbles on the two and David Harris recovers. But, could it mean something? Did the Jets have the will to make something of disaster averted? No. Not here. Maybe later. They fumbled back again, at the end of a long gain by Braylon Edwards. Does anybody want to win this game?
Then, as if a switch had gone on, the offense figured out how to play football. Sanchez’s happy feet had disappeared and they got a long drive going that consumed the rest of the quarter. It ran the length of the field but stalled just before pay dirt. They would settle for three. 21-16. Could they get the lead and win?
The defense would hold again, three and out and it would be up to the offense to get the lead. They drove down the field in nearly eight minutes and punched it in but there was a cost. On 1st and goal from the one, confusion led Sanchez to call the second time out. The first had also been burned in confusion by Sanchez and now they would be desperately short. When Braylon Edwards dropped the two point conversion, all the margin for error was gone. They had the lead but it was razor thin at 22-21.
Still, the defense hadn’t given up a first down in the entire second half. One more three and out and it’s over. Did the defense have another three and out in their bag? Nope. On a key play, not yet in field goal range, Kerry Rhodes blew a coverage and the Jags completed a pass over the middle that put them in range to win. After that, the time outs killed them. With two minutes to go, the Jaguars had a first down. If they didn’t blunder, they would win. They didn’t blunder, playing clever football and the Jets lost.
What can I say? I could say that the Jets, again, gave the opposing team too many breaks. Sanchez is reckless at times. It’s pretty clear he’s not seeing his secondary receivers. The team is starting games slowly, not just this week or after the bye, and Sanchez is not a confident passer, at least not until the third quarter. Their offensive playmaker, Leon Washington is missing and missed. Their run stopper, Kris Jenkins is missing and missed. The offense has no rhythm and seems to be looking to make plays, not drives. The defense is fragile up the middle. They make too many mistakes. In the last analysis, rookie quarterback, rookie coach, new defensive scheme, two key players gone, what did we really expect? Bottom line: they’re a mediocre club right now.
Still, it wasn’t going to take a coaching change alone to win. Not in this division, not with a rookie quarterback sixteen games from high school, not with an offense that only clicked once in the last four years, when Favre had Cotchery, Coles and Leon, not with a defense that had been nothing but inconsistent in the past, not with key injuries, not with a brash head coach who needs to learn to be the leader of a whole team. So let’s settle in, Jets’ fans. For those of you who are uninclined to blame this coach and this club for your past disappointments, let’s settle in and wait for the changes that will make for victory in the future. This season is over for lofty expectations. Let’s see what the future brings. As for the rest of you, the Bills can always use some fans. Or, you may want to get your Chad Ochocinco jerseys. Marvin Lewis has finally pulled it together after seven years. You might also root for the Saints. Sean Payton has put it together in his fourth year. Me, I’ll be here waiting for Rex to do it, maybe in his second year, maybe his third. See you when you get back. You won’t mind if I call you a front runner, will you?

I hear you man. some years the wins fall in place and some years they don’t. Lets all stick by our team through the thick and THIN.
still waiting for rhodes to make a play. not just a big play, any play.
“maybe his second, maybe his third”
How can you make the assumption they’ll EVER put it together? After 40 years of this you think it’ll take another year or 2?
What if it takes another 40? I’ll come back then right before i die and happily be a front runner.
I CANT TAKE IT ANYMORE WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY WHY???????
I will always and forever be an unwavering jets fan. No matter how much crap they put me through year in and year out. That being said, I’m furious and dissapointed. This is a team with immense talent. I still believe in Sanchez and think he will become a great QB, but the defense has no excuses. They don’t close when they chase the QB, they miss the first tackle regularly and they get tired and soft when the game is on the line that past few weeks. No excuses. This team has the talent to be one of the best in the league and they seem more interested in starting fights with the other team. Bravado is great and I like the team’s new attitude but back it up or shut your mouth. Especially Kerry Rhodes.
The season is over and I still need to endure 7 more games. I love the Jets and tomorrow I’ll be calmer and looking at the bright side as I tend to do, but for today I bring to the table that being a Jet fan is not an easy thing to do, Mr. Weiss. No real Jet fan will abandon the team, even if we want to we just can’t do it. But I can be frustrated and flat out angry with this season
That’s it. For the first half of the season, I blamed bad breaks, bad luck, bad timing. Now it’s clear: The Jets are just a bad team. I’m putting all my Jets hats and Jets shirts in a box, taping it up, and stowing it in the attic. I’ve pissed away too many Sundays, hoping that this team would just play football instead of trying to pull the next big move. When they win a playoff game, I’ll watch again. And I don’t feel the least bit bad about saying that. They owe me. I don’t owe them. I’m all paid up. And they’ve got a lot of ground to make up. Waste of time.
Hopefully the new stadium will bring new luck to this organization.
Rex Ryan has to watch what he says. If this team is very talented, and this team is only 4-5 then we have to blame the coach.
cant wait to start every NE pat and even fa pats on the wavier wire next week.. I dont even think im going to watch thats how bad i think it is going to be
and for all the schottenheimer haters…
he really called a good game. it shows a lack of knowledge. 20/20 hindsight is ridiculous and tiring. and play calling doesnt account for dropped balls.
lose the turnover margin, lose the game. it works out that way about 3 out of 4 times.
FINALLY SOME REALITY BEING WRITTEN ON A JETS WEB SITE!
i have been a jet fan my entire life and have dedicated myself to this team year round. i am done and will no longer watch a game or spend my hard earned money on this pathetic team. my closet and dresser will be emptied since it is filled with jets sh#t. im done!!!! the misery is over!!! im starting to crack a smile already! u guys should try it
Hey, if the Pats lose tonight, and we beat the Pats next week. The week after, we play the Panthers and the Pats play the Saints, we could be in 1st place.
Lol jk That was the way I looked at it the past couple of losses, now I have given up. The Jets should just release/not play Sheppard to make sure we dont have to give up any higher draft picks for him. Let Lowrey start and see if he can start next season. Give S. Greene the ball much more.
Pats 55 jets 0
Utter pish yet again, i’ve reached my limit with the Jets, they were flat as a fart, i’ve got a bet on the bengals winning the AFC so think i’ll just watch there games for the rest of the season
Wonder how ryan is feeling now after giving the team a week off, i must admit i thought it was a good idea at the time lol
Typical Jets will be beating the Pats then losing the next 2 to the Panthers and Bills. Or lose to the Pats and at the end of the year beat the Colts and Bengals and still miss the playoffs.
the pats will crush us next week,i wont be watching it,ill go to work and make some overtime money, screw the jets, they will never win again this year.
oh well what a dispointment…
This team is NOT READY TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS!!! Sanchez has a lot of potential but he cant lead them to the PLAYOFFS yet.
They are not built to endure the ROOKIE mistakes he is making.
Hey Im not telling anyone not to be dissapointed but be FAIR in your criticism.
In 3 years make definitive statements on Rex and Chez- ALOT can change after a ROOKIE’S first season
the D is what’s most disappointing. They are very, very overrated. How many games already this year where the D couldn’t stop the opposing Offense at the end of the game and it resulted in a loss. Sanchez still has a long way to go, too. Maybe Rex will finally learn to keep his mouth shut now.
the D-line is pathetic. The only time we get a sack or even a hit on the QB is when one of our blitzers goes unblocked. None of our D-Lineman can win a 1-on-1 battle.
I would be fine with the way we are at 4-5 IF Ryan wouldn’t always talk about how good this team is and how its going to be a playoff team.
At the beginning of the year, if we were competitive in every game and end the year at 9-7 or 8-8 I would’ve been happy as long as Sanchez kept improving. But all Ryan is doing is get our hopes up and give us heartbreaking losses week after week.
Rex Ryan is a Genius
Let’s give them a 6 day rest when they have lost 4 of the last 5…
Um as usual the playcalling was suspect. When you have the best running game in the NFL why throw it soo much??
It also looked like we really missed Jenkins today. Not to mention Leon. Its just like Boomer Esiason said “your only as good as your injury list”
Right now we are missing two All-Pro players. But at least Sanched is learning and hopefully going into next year he will have improved.
Very realistic analysis- as your last paragraph implies, we weren’t going to go far this year with a rookie qb and coach anyway, and with arguably our most important players on d and o injured our odds looked even more slim. Let Mark learn on the job this year, and the defense get more confident as the season goes on, and rex get coaching experience. If we get jenkins and leon back next year with rex and mark having a year under their belts we should surely improve.
I’m with Bassett. I’m not sure if it’s disappointing or a sign of hope but when it clicks it clicks. When Sanchez makes good passes he sets his feet and makes good passes. But he also wastes so many drives because on second and third down he throws it at his receivers’ feet. Same could be said for playing calling. Same could be said for defense.
The defense is very good. But it’s overrated. I’m really disappointed in the lack of takeaways. There are good plays where you keep the receiver in front of you to prevent the first down, stuff the run, or force a bad pass through pressure and I think they make a solid amount of good plays. They don’t make the great plays like the strips, the blind side sacks, and the jumped routes.
As soon as the cramps stop and I stop vomiting I’m gonna go hurt someone.
Also anyone who was at game- was it really that loud on the pass to the te on the jags last drive? The commentators said rhodes couldn’t hear leonard’s call to backup and that’s why he wasn’t in position.
Rex and Mark brought hope to the Jets and the fans. I guess that’s why this season is so hard to stomach.
30 pass attempts. Wtf.
They have now lost 4 of their last 5 by 4, 3, 5 and 2 points, and all almost in the 4th quarter or the last snap of the game.
I don’t know if it would be better to be blown out each week! Teasing, teasing and then — WHAM! — sucker punch, yet AGAIN. As Andrew said — mediocre teams find a way to lose.
Talk about testing a fan base. Can understand why the stadium sounded dead for most of the game, yet again. The team let the air in the first quarter and it never really came back.
Vince Lombardi said it best. “When you lose, say nothing.” & “When you win, say even less.” Rex Ryan & today’s modern day athletes & coaches would be wise to heed that advice.
I never understood why anyone would want to give ANY motivation to an opponent’s TEAM or player. JUST SHUT UP & PLAY THE GAME. LET YOUR ACTIONS ( to many missed tackles) SPEAK FOR YOU! Did Bart Scott play today? ;)
Im only 30 and I havent seen the collapes like the older Jet fans, but Ive played and coached football at the collegiate level and as dissapointing and frustrating as the losses have been, Ive seen stuff like this happen before. Im not saying they are a great team, Rex is Vince Lombardi, Sanchez is Montana but they have shown enough flashes that you can still have hope that in a couple of years they could be a FORCE.
The Jets are one or two players of Darelle Revis caliber away on defense from being CHAMPIONSHIP caliber. Guys like Bryan Thomas and Kerry Rhodes simply make too much money and are not good enough to make game changing plays.
Andrew is right, leave now if you want, but in a year or two Ill bet you’ll be sorry you did
Thanks for the taste of reality. They’re not a good team nor a bad team but merely a mediocre one. Most of their games, six, have come down to the last minute or OT and have been decided by 1 or 2 plays. They’ve loss four of them. In another season, those plays go their way and they’re 6-3 instead of 4-5.
Say what you like, the defense came up small in a big situation. Nothing else would have mattered if the defense had buckled down and stopped the Jaguards on the last series of the game. I mean, heaven knows they had like three and a half years of rest (the offense had just had the ball for like eight minutes.
I have to laugh at the notion that Schitty called a good game. Play action bomb on the 1st play for a pick..Great call. The only person that can stop Thomas Jones is his OC. Give me a break. I am a huge fan, but I have tried real hard not to invest as much, as then I will not be crushed. I admire those who actually buy season tickets to this team, knowing the last games of the year are shear masochism.
Kerry Rhodes Stinks.
Rex is off with the defense holding a donut convention on the days they are scheduled for tackling drills.
Defensive line has zero depth…and little talent at that
Kerry Rhodes Stinks
Schottenheimer is not consistent in effective play calling throughout the course of the game.
Keller needs to become more effective in the middle of the field.
Kerry Rhodes Stinks
I’m sick of hearing Rex’s mouth. Up to this point, the team is not well-coached, extremely thin in terms of depth (negative to constantly trading up in the draft, especially for reaches!!) and at the end of the day, they aren’t any good.
Any team can have a game or two that go wrong, come up short, bad luck, etc. But this is 5 of 6.
I’ll never stop rooting/ supporting/ showing up at these games. But I kind of miss the loveable, miserable jets. This team is hard to root for sometimes because Rex is a pompous ass, Rhodes is doing more cheerleading than actual playing and Sanchez comes off faker than a set of hollywood tits in his effort to be the leader.
Jet fan for over 40 years, ticket holder for 27. They continue to be a pathetic team. Tired of hearing of ttheir postential—-show me. This team is like every team the Jets have put on the field for forty years—losers. At this point I don’t know if it will ever change. Some day I hope we have team that will grow a pair, until then I don’t expect anything to change.
Andrew, why did you have to end your piece by effectively calling us, the fans, a group of band wagoners? Liked most of the analysis up until that point. Every Jets fan feels the pain of games like this. Unnecessary to declare yourself king of the martyrs.
If you’re sick of it, then leave. But there is no coming back.
Captain Kerry is too worried about Hollywood to make an NFL impact anymore.
To everyone who said this isn’t the SOJ, I say you’re wrong. This IS the same ol Jets.
eddie —
i have seen them (almost all of those historic brutal losses).
this team is on the right track. and as andrew pointed out originally, disappointment is really a function of expectations.
but we all want to win now. what sucks is that it looks like again can’t even make to thxsgvng with meaning football on sundays.
this team has some talent, has some good coaches. a paly here, a play there and its a 10-6 team. the worst thing to do would be to blow it up. its just exhausting waiting all the time.
I second the motion that Schitty and Kerry stinks.
Draft Eric Berry.
4-12 or 5-11 we will have a shot.
Forgot to add- too many people put way too much stock into the things Rex says.
Half the time he is having fun with the media. I think you are going to see him tone it down a lot in years coming, but all he was trying to do was repair the self esteem of the lifeless, broken football team that Eric Mangini left him.
Unfortunately he cant tell the media that he is going to get rid of guys like Bryan Thomas after the year is over. He doesnt go after his players in public. Its never going to happen, its not how he does things.
More often than not this year this team has been put in position to WIN. Contrary to popular belief on this site, from my coaching experience, that is what your main focus is.In all the losses you can point to the PLAYERS NOT EXECUTING in a certain phase of the game. Missed tackles, blown coverage, stupid penalties etc.
For anyone clambering for Mangini, if Mangini was here and Jenkins went down, this team would lose by 21 or more a game. His read and react was garbage without Jenks.
kdbart, part kd lange part Bart scott, dude you are messed up. My sympathies to you. I am done drinking the koolaid.
Draft Eric Berry.
Elite defense my arse.
With the game on the line in the 4q they have allowed the opponent to march for the winning score three games in a row.
Am I the only one thats starting to worry about this QB?
Rex is a good coach
Scitty is not.
Harris is a good LB.
Scott is not.
Leonard is a good Safety.
Hollywood is not.
Revis is a great Corner.
Sheopard/Lowery is not.
Point being :
Draft Eric Berry
Go Jets!!!
Suckenheimer blows.
Draft Eric Berry
Third inexcusable loss at home. At the end of the day we need to win.
I am as big a Jets fans as there is, but I don’t get why you guys put so much of your life into what happens to the Jets on Sundays.
I am a Jets fan, because I love going to the bar, getting a beer and a burger, watching the Jets and debating Jets football strategy with my fellow drunks. If the Jets win thats great, if the lose my day isn’t going to suffer.
You guys act like if the Jets win the Super Bowl it will solve all your problems. Guess what? It won’t. Get a life and stop living your life through the Jets. Then maybe you will actually be able to enjoy being a Jets fan.
I agree with Chris–it is time for Rex and this team to shut their mouths—-when you win you don’t need to talk. Till then shut up and play like you mean it. There is no diffierence between this team and last years team. This year is no different than the pathetic collapse of last year. Mediocrity lives in the Meadowlans.
Wise Old
Worry about the QB? You act like he is Ryan Leaf. The kid left the field with the Jets WINNING. He will be fine with more experience, when the game slows down and he has been in all different sorts of situations
The elite defense point is valid. But thats the work of the media. In a 3-4, with Bryan Thomas at ROLB and Rhodes at FS, compare that to Pitts with Harrison and Polamalu or Balt with Suggs and Ed Reed (who arent the same w/o Rex by the way.)
We got spoiled with the big start, they arent good enough to overcome the up and down play and the typical mistakes that Sanchez makes. He is going the natural maturation of a QB, Rex too with game management.
Its frustrating and dissapointing, especially for the guys who have dealt with the losing for 40 years, but the talent is there and needs more time to develop into a CONSISTENT winner
KERRY RHODES IS THE MOST OVERRATED PLAYER IN THE NFL…HE IS AWFUL
dtjet
There was nothing wrong with the first call of the game. Cotchery was single covered and had a step on his man. Sanchez under threw him by five yards. I;m no Schottenheimer fan but fair is fair.
Why don’t all of you angry Jet fans do what I did, and stop being a fan? I destroyed every piece of Jet memorabilia I had in the house after today’s game, and it felt GOOD!! You guys should try it. After 30+ years as a Jet fan, I am no longer putting up with their crap. F the Jets. I can honestly say I hate the Jets for all the BS they have put me through over the years. I hope the Patriots crush them next week. I hope they get crushed every week. If we all stop going to the games and watching the games on TV, and stop buying Jets memorabilia, maybe these bunch of losers will leave town, and move L.A., or anywhere far away from New York. For anybody who thinks this team is on the right track, or is still holding out hope that someday they will get back to the Super Bowl, you are dreaming. This team will always be The Same Old Jets. Eventually, all of you will give up on this team like I have.
Can’t argue that logic Former Jet fan.
I am still a Jet fan.
Why?
I have no idea, 27 years of bull sh it but here I still am.
Draft Eric Berry
ENOUGH.
The only thing that distresses me more than this team is its fans. I don’t want to hear one more word about not being a fan anymore, or hear “Same Old Jets” or anything like that.
Are these the Same Old Jets? Maybe. I don’t know. They’re absolutely awful, that much is certain.
But people on this site seem to whip that phrase out after every interception, let alone loss. QUIT TROLLING YOUR OWN TEAM. More often than not, life sucks in the NFL. And sometimes, for our older fans, life sucks for 40 years. I’m sorry for that; I truly am. But if you’re still here complaining after enduring all that, then clearly these Jets mean something to you. So instead of inanely calling for Rex to be fired, or Mark to be, I don’t know, “undrafted,” or whatever you would have of him, why don’t you either a) do something constructive or b) complain in private.
No one on this site deserves a winning team, which is great, because to hear you say it, you’ll never get one!
Doug – Very well said.
And Andrew, I have no idea of your age, but I will guess that you haven’t witnessed the debacle known as the Jets long enough to become completely jaded and cynical.
I will always be a die hard Jets fan. But I will always expect them to blow it, some way, somehow. Their creativity at messing up is often the thing I enjoy most about them.
So I’ll hang in there for another week, year, decade, and, hopefully in the end, close to a century. But I won’t expect another Joe Willie to arrive and lead us to victory. That kind of miracle happens only once.
inOhio
I saw Joe Namath play, in person.
I agree that the quitter fans make us all look bad. Sometimes your team loses winnable games. Some seasons it happens several times.
Quit on the team if you must, but do it with some dignity and just go away quietly.
I’ll still pull for the Jets. I’ll still be mad when we suck and glad when we win. It’s big-boy football. No one feels sorry for you when you lose. Get over it because we still have 7 more games to play. Either root for the team or STFU.
Sincerely,
DM in CO
inOhio that is exactly right
4-5 is better than 0-9, 1-8, and 2-7 and being eliminated already. chill out and enjoy thye game next week and the rest of the season until we’re eliminated if we are eliminated. if we win the next 7 games we win the east it’s that simple.
Screw you Andrew. I have been rooting for this team for over 40 years (I have no idea how long you have). And I am pissed. Your sanctimonious line about you being here when we get back is really bull****. And don’t you dare call anyone who has rooted for this team a “front runner”. I think our frustration with this this team is justified—and I hope your dream of this team turning around in 2 or 3 years will be a reality—but I would not hold my breath.
I just thought of a silver lining :Woody has to eat another loss and rescinds the PSL requirements due to non purchases to see this team.
NO PSLs for 2010!!!!
That would be awesome.
Oh, and draft Eric Berry
SAME OLD JETS!!!
I hope Bassett finally realizes what a loser Kerry Rhodes is. He is not a pro bowler and is not even a good safety.
The Jets need to start benching their underperforming vets like Rhodes, Thomas, Eliis etc. Let the youngsters play to see how good they really are.
Am I ever glad that I didn’t pay Woody The Weasel’s exhorbitant PSL fees so I don’t have to attend 30 more years of JETS losing. 41 years and counting!!!
I have been putting up with this nonsensse since 1960. It seldom gets better. I will stay the course but I am unhappy with Ryan, Sanchez, Rhodes, Pouha and the fact that the team came out FLAT today. There is no excuse for it. Giving the team 6 days off was a BIG mistake.
John I,
One can always dream. But when the JETS lose 35-3 to Patsies will you finally call season over. I think it is over already.
And what a mistake it was to let Brett Favre leave for nothing.
As a young jet fan at the age of 13 i haven’t endured the pain you older fans have. I have already seen how bad it could get. The worst i’ve seen is Doug Brien 2002 oakland raiders 03 05 07 terrible seasons and 08 breakdown. I don’t believe they will make the playoffs but benching sanchez is not the answer. He has a brighter future than clemens. I was dissapointed when i heard fans calling for sanchez to get benched. Clemens wouldn’t have done better. we need a new offensive coordinator. I have hope this team will win a title in the next 5 years. Say what you want but I wont stop being a fan. I’ll admit they aren’t playing so good but they are a couple plays away from 8-1. I hope you agree with me.
Can only see the Jets winning 2 more games this year—maybe the Bills and Tampa. That is quite a come down from the way the season started. There is also a strong possibilty that they will not win another game. I see the pathetic play of last years defense at the end of the season rearing its ugly head.
And, by the way, the entire team just quit. Would you throw your body away for the rest of season? For what? Sanchez is about to learn what dirt tastes like in every region of the country. And even Canada! I wouldn’t block for him. Let the rookie really learn the NFL. He needs a serious wake up call. And he can shove that hot dog up his pants.
it hurts me to say this because I was a huge kerry rhodes fan till this season……but i think he is the product of a i got my big pay day and really dont care about anything else but looking pretty and enjoying the celebrity life.
its sad it really is
Draft Eric Berry, trade Kerry
Even though I am a Pat’s fan I expected more from the Jests this season. Given the quick start and the accumulated talent it looked like you were loaded for bear but apparently that isn’t the case, something is still missing. Could be that Rex isn’t the coach everyone thought he is, could be that Sanchez needs another year of two of seasoning, could be a lot of things but as your former coach always says “you are what your record says you are” and your records says you aren’t very good. Right now you are in 3rd place in the AFC East behind the Pats and the Fins, there will be no winning out or miracle finish, you are what you seem to be, a mediocre team at best. I guess I just don’t get it, you guys have fielded such a bad team for so long, even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally, this is beyond ridiculous. At least Rex will stop telling you what a monster he built and there’s always next year, enjoy the rest of the games and climb down from the bridge.
I’m a Jets fan and we’re into November… Time to start looking up the ole’ NFL draft sites again.
What picks don’t we have? 3rd for Edwards and a 5th for Sheppard?
I think Schott is a joke. His Offense basically sucks.
Ah… Here comes another 20 year old Pats fan who probably wasn’t around with the Pats were a bigger joke of a franchise than the Jets ever were.
I hope all these frontrunners don’t show up… crowd sucked today plain and simple
hey guys im going to the bucs/jets game on dec 13th. Ill be the kid 5 rows behind the jets bench wearing a brown paper bag on my head. LOOK FOR ME!!!
No Pete—the crowd did not suck—the Jets sucked. I have not put on a pair of shoulder pads in some time—I just show up and root for the team—once in a while I’d like the team to show up.
James,
Shut up about Eric Berry
No one shuts up a home crowd like the Jets. Maybe the lions and raiders, but the Jets do a pretty good job.
Most of you are acting like a bunch of little kids. I love the Jets and I’ve suffered for many years. You’re all talking about getting rid of the stuff in your closet and canceling season tickets, then do it! We’ve all sat through this for a long time, but we have a team, and they’ll learn and when they dominate the leauge in the next 2-3 years. I don’t wanna hear it from all of you guys that “gave up” on the “same-old” Jets. When we win a championship, don’t come crawling back, cause we don’t want you. We who stay through things like this, ARE THE TRUE JETS FANS. I BLEED GREEN UNTIL THE DAY I DIE.
Those who are done, we’re never important the rest of us fans, those who stay, are the true Jets fans.
Did everyone notice that two of the teams that needed to loose to help the Jets–unlike the Jets they got the job done–San Diego and Bengals both win–sure we will have the tirfecta when Pats win tonite.
I’m tired of the coaching staffs always mismanaging the game. First Miami game Rex refuses to call timeouts. Buffalo game we continue to throw the ball all over the field putting the game in Sanchez’s hands. Second Miami game no challenge of a fumble on the winning drive. Today two wasted timeouts in the second half, one on defense because wrong players, not enough, or too many on the field, then first and goal from the one timeout again because of five WR package sent in. Players make mistakes but the coaches seem to do it week in and week out.
I just listened to the post game interviews- Sanchez’s was typical (cant make mistakes) , what a bunch of BS, he says the same things and mkaes the same mistakes every week.
What I did like was Braylons, he said it how it was. Im becoming a big fan of his to be honest and I hope the Jets sign him after this year.
R in CT comes closest to stating the obvious when he points out how this team has been losing games by just a few points. This team does not know how to win. The losing mentality permeates not just us SOJ fans, but there it is no accident that the Fish beat us in close games (and win another today) while we lose.
Winning teams make plays. Losing teams do not.
Until Rex acknowledges that a losing attitude permeates this franchise and that those who feed it will not be tolerated, this team will continue to entice and fail.
This stinks so much like my alma mater, Columbia that I can no longer stand it. I no longer watch games. I tape them and erase them without wasting my time when they lose like this to a lesser team.
Harlan
Hey Jake I already gave up the tickets and Have been burning something that says Jets on it after every stupid loss. By early next year I will have rid myself of Jet garbage. Until the owner starts holding people accountable, and they make sound football moves instead of ones bsed on looking good in the media and to sell tickets I will no longer support the team financially.
Jake D.–Not acting like a little kid. Like you I have suffered for many years—will be wearing my Jet jersey tomorrow–have put down my required down payment for next years tickets. Yeah we got a team and we have had a mediocre team for 40 years. Saying they are the SOJ is not giving up—it is reality. I don’t know why we can’t be a different team—had high hopes when the season started—in the end it is the same old pathetic Jets—a team without heart, a team without the killer instinct, a mediocre football team. But as I usually say in December “wait till next year”.
Guys,
I guess the reason why people are going off the deep end is because this team looked good the first 3 games, which instilled some hope that maybe we have something this year. The fact is nobody thought the Jets were going to be good this year at all. We are getting what we expected. I fell victim to it too but this is really what you are going to get from a 23 year old rookie qb. The defense is ok but really, when they are called on to make a stop at the end of the game, they don’t…and that’s basically a veteran defense, so no excuse there.
This blog is a great outlet. ….Being a Jet fan has always been about disappointment. I dont believe in curses but it sure looks like we can go on and on about the reasons we lose .But really we just lose. And in a hundred different ways ,From the Marino spike to Richard Todd. Its never ending . Why do we keep coming back?
Masochism
I thought Rexs’ forte was defense yet that’s at least the second time where we can’t stop a team when it matters.
P.S. i am getting really sick of Kerry Rhodes, i was once a big fan of his but now its just ridiculous about his lack of playmaking ability
Bingo Rizzo, I will except a rookie QB making mistakes, and a rookie QB screwing up the timeouts—what is unacceptable is a veteran defense not making the stop when they have to. That was the one think that I thought Rex would instill in his defense–be there when it counts. But apperantly along with his clock mismanagement he is not able to instill a killer instinct in his defense. We have lost 3 games that were there for the taking—and we were as pathetic as we were last year under Mangini—what has changed?
I must say, we always play good enough to lose.
Where do we start? How about the first play of the game — bad play call by Shotzy the dog and equally bad job by Sanchez. First, Sanchez rolls out to the left, which is not his best throwing side, then he forces it late, down the left sideline for an interception. Bad play call, we are not going to win the game on the first play of the game. Sanchez should have run the ball, as he had the whole field in front of him. Clusterf–k on the first offensive play of the game. Six plays later, we are down 7-0. At that point, I wanted to go on the field and smack Shotzy in the back of his head. When, later in the game, on an important third down, he brought Brad Smith in to take the snap — I felt that that call could probably get him fired. Fortunately for the dog man, Shonn Greene fought hard for that first down. I’ve said it before, and I will probably say it again. Schottenheimer is a loser. We will never go anywhere with that moron calling the plays.
As for the defense, how do they shut down the Jags for the whole second half and then let them walk up the field for eighty yards to win it on the last drive?
Sickening. It is not fun to be a Jet fan. I was at the game. I feel like I was on a roller coaster ride and I got off the ride feeling nauseous. Can’t wait for the New England game.
Has anyone noticed if Sanch@z is wearing his Mexic@an flag mouthpiece lately?
The weak link on our D is on the defense line and his name is Marques Douglass. He’s decent against the run but never gets any pass rush and is a big reason why opposing qbs have all the time in the world on every play.
Ellis has lots of tackles this year so he isn’t the weak link.
Hey, NamVetJet
You had high expectations with a rookie quarterback? Any body that thought that the Jets would win 10 or 11 games, was outta their mind. I’ve seen enough football to know that some of the BEST quarterbacks have had rough first season.
IE; Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning.
I figured they’d win 8 games, even with the talent they have. Come on now, Sanchez came into the season with 16 games of experience and you expected the Jets to do well, as he developes, this team will also… Don’t give up on the Jets, 40 years of mediocrity, but you know what, we will no longer be mediocre, at the end of the day, this team walks with the heart of a lion. Mediocrity will NOT stand under Rex, mark my words.
I’m just tired of losing to teams that we are better than. Miami twice, the Bills, and now the Jags. The entire organization should be torn apart. We are the NY Jets playing in NJ in the Giants stadium and we wonder why we can win and have no future. Please sell the team and move it to the west coast. Matbe the new owners will share a stadium with the Raiders.
Hey Weiss what y drinkin? It is not too early to question the coaching competence of Rex Ryan. This team never seems to have any timeouts left, their substitutions are chaotic, on the last 3rd & long for Jacksonville they were confused on coverage. Let’s face it, were being coached by a defensive coordinator, not a head coach. The only time this team has ever won was when they were coached by a LEGITIMATE HEAD COACH, a la Weeb or Parcells. Bill Cowhar , where are you?
I am still a Jet fan
But this is hard to take
Andrew – Was he playing for the Jets, or the Rams? Just curious.
Hey guys yea its really me Rex Ryan, just want to tell our fans no worries this is just another hickup. We will play better the rest of the season and we will make the playoffs! Kerry Rhodes is fine and hes our man. Shotty is brilliant and he will get this offense clicking again. Can’t wait to beat up on the Pats next week in Foxbourough.
Viva Mexic@!
For anyone to defend Brian Schottenheimer, you must be releated to him or something like that.
Being a good offensive coordinator doesnt all fall down on play calling during the game. This offense looks lost. Sanchez is being asked to do too much and who is asking him? Schitty is asking him. You don’t do a play action bomb on the first play of the game, when you are in a must win game and have the #1 rushing offense in the league. Once I saw that play I knew this game/season was done.
Until we get an offensive mind in here who knows how to call a descent game and tutor our young qb then we are pretty much going to be in the same boat next year as we were this year and as we were last year.
PS- Looks like Brett Favre was the problem last year, not that piece of Schottenheimer…right?
Keep barking Scott, keep barking!! Maybe you can put Rhodes on a leash too. This game PROVES that when the jets front seven matches against an opponent’s front seven the jets front seven will LOSE (without jenkins and without getting help for jenkins). The scheme will only give you so much help. After that it is man to man. Do you think Tanny cares about the trenches? What happened did Rex fall off the face of the earth? Why isn’t he pounding his chest with all his bravado. Come on guys I thought you guys were diehard jet fans. Some of you guys want to crawl back into your holes and curse the jets. Shows how much backbone you guys have. Look at the other losing franchises that still have passionate fans. Look at them!
I am just as every bit upset as the rest of you but just keep two things in mind….
1. The most important player on this team is Sanchez and he doesn’t appear to be the problem. Remember he is a rookie and he will only get better, making the Jets a far better team.
2. If they keep losing, maybe Shotty will get canned and Callahan can be our OC.
Jake—had high hopes when we went 3-0. My pre season prediction was 8-8 which does not look likely. I think the frustration for me is how we loose and who we loose to. I am sorry but I don’t understand why you can’t stop a team when it counts, a team who you have stopped a whole half. And this is not the first time it has happened. This is a veteran defensive team and the lose against the Bills, the second Miami game and todays game are unexcusable. I don’t know what will make it different next year—Ryans defensive scheme will be the same, his motivational skills will be the same—do we need other players—I am at a lose–what will make it different? I am not a football x’s and o’s guy—but for 40 years I have seen a team that does not perform at crunch time. Anybody how does that change.
Its very hard to take but I think I got Hyped from the 3-0 start. I really expected a 7-9 season. But with a stop here and there. We could easily have added 3 more wins under our belts. I just want to see improvement from Sanchez and Rex. A rookie QB and coach deserves more then one season to evaluate. Get more help in the secondary and a pass rushing end or OLB .
Just another Sunday in the life of a Jet fan. New year, new hype, new hope, same result…..Disapointment.
MEMO TO REX:
TALK IS CHEAP SO SHUT THE F**K UP ALREADY!
You’re going to get smacked by the Genuis known as Bellichick and he’ll make sure you’ll wish you never opened your big fat mouth.
MEMO TO BART SCOTT:
You’re not Ray Lewis, never were and never will be.
MEMO TO MARK SANCHEZ:
Cold weather got you down, how about you grow a pair of balls.
MEMO TO Schottenhemier:
You’re just like your dad, a massive tool.
MEMO TO JETS FANS:
Just END the Season!
Viva Cojones!
inOhio
Namath for the Jets vs. Unitas for the Colts in Shea Stadium. It was an amazing shootout. The two quarterbacks combined for something like 700 yards. I was way up in the stands but the ball kept flying up to eye level. It was bombs away.
Memo to Randall CUMMINGhand,
Eat a weiner.
Schotty has no feel for game situations.
He is just like Gholston, very talented but no instinct and he should be inactive with Ghoslton next week. Agree they have to start playing the kids, after next week which is now my season.
Eddie, I could not disagree more, the press did not create the legend of the Jets “elite” defense, Rex Ryan, Bart Scott and many others following suit created it with their big mouths. The press picked it up and ran with it like a Sanchez fumble.
I was serious asking about the QB, he is starting to worry me.
I have seen a lot of young QB’s in my day, and know it is way to early to judge a QB or any other player for tha matter (jeesh, even Mickey Mantle got sent back to the minors (he wore number 6 btw in his first go round which I found interesting ), but some of his passes are simply atrocious like he has no idea where the ball is going.
And despite all the alleged studying during the bye he makes the same mistakes, over and over again.
There have been plenty of talented QB’s that never get it, and I am starting to become concerned that he may be one of them.
I fully expected him to play an excellent game today with a week off to breather, and he stunk up the joint.
The three or four drops did not help, but all QB’s have drops.
Name one popular and famous Mexic@an who isn’t a comedian. Relax, folks. Sanchez is just there to make us laugh. And he is doing a good job.
And how come no hate for Dustin (oops, I dropped it again) Keller on this blog?
Rhodes had the big miscue but he was one of many goats today.
This team is clearly not ready to make the playoffs, and quite frankly neither is a percentage of the fans of this blog. If 40 years of mostly losing is too much to bear, then stop rooting for the team. Stop whining. Stop bitching and go root for a perennial winner. Before this team can think playoffs, it first has to first learn how to win. Ryan will have to get some players and some coaches who know how to win. Unfortunately not enough of them are on this team at present. Though he didn’t cost them this game, I certainly don’t think Shottenhiemer is one who knows how to consistently win in the NFL. I just hope that Sanchez is innoculated from the negativity enough to become one of those who learns how to win in the NFL. The “same ole Jets players” ala Kerry Rhodes, Brian Thomas, Shaun Ellis probably will not be a part of the team when it finally learns how to win. A lack of talent particularly on the D-Line and in some other spots also need to be upgraded. Depending on a gimpy Kris Jenkins is playing with fools gold. There is enough other talent here to win in the near future. However it clearly takes more than talent. It also takes sensible fans (not the overly emotional sort that comprise some of this blog’s readership) to support the new players into a winning formulation.
Thought on Sanchez, he was sold to us as Pennington with a better arm.
Perhaps his adrenalin(nerves) is causing him to throw the ball too hard, because I am not seeing the advertised accuracy?
Oh yeah, Pete Carroll deserves and apology.
the jets are playing for the people and are playing in jan.instead of now one thing mangini did the jets should do. worry about the team they are playing not the future.and play for themselves not for us cause if you play for yourself the rest of us will benefit to much talk about playoffs forget the playoffs play to win today
WOJF,
You don’t have to worry about Sanchez. He’s a young QB, making young mistakes, but he is still making some great plays. After his 5 INT game he had 2 games with a 100 passer rating. Today was a step backward, but I also don’t hold the first INT completely against him as it was a poor playcall (rolling him out to the left so he throws a deep ball across his body). Basically, no rookie should be throwing the ball 30 times, and once again Schotty abandons his running game too soon and puts too much on the shoulders of our rookie QB. I wouldn’t worry about him though, he’s clearly got the talent and the mental game will catch up soon.
Letter to Santa:
Hi Santa, I hope you are enjoying your time off with the the wife. I know the busy season is upon us, but I would like to ask for one gift next year (a year early just to give you enough time to get it ready).
Anyway this one gift is something that I have not asked for before in 34 years. This one gift is not a bike or a new toy; it’s a Super Bowl Championship made out of a broken down football team that has done nothing but disappointed its fan base for 40+ years.
Santa you and the elves have some hard work a head of you with trying to make this happen, but from all the stories I have heard over the years I understand that your team in the North Pole love challenges (and this one is big)!
I believe the owner Woody Johnson is trying to help this team go in the right direction, but me and the rest of the die-hard (long and short term) fans do not believe he truly understands how to fix something that is broken this bad. So you might need to give him a Football Almanac, and a better supporting cast just to start with.
Another problem you will cross is the Devil.
Yes I said the Devil!
You see Santa the New York Jets greatest Icon “Joe Namath” sold his soul to the Devil for a Super Bowl Championship back in 1969, and the Devil delivered. Now due to the “Namath” curse, this team will forever suffer without ever seeing another Super Bowl Championship, because of the injuries, crappy play calling and play execution.
What makes matters worse is that we all know the Devil masks as Bill Belichick on Sundays, and has his son Tom Brady is playing quarterback just to make our life HELL!
I know the man down stairs is a tough dude to work with, but I’m sure a batch of sugar cookies from the wife, toss in some worthless elves, and Offensive Coordinator Brian Schottenheimer with the 2008 1st Round Draft Pick Vernon Gholston (who in my opinion are both dead weight anyway) maybe you can make him destroy that contract from 1969.
Just some suggestions that might help the cause would be to help star players like Leon Washington and Kris Jenkins overcome injuries, and fix the some of the players financial contracts as well.
There must be a way to fix this broken team and your my last hope to figure out a way!
Now I’m going to post a copy of this letter to you on a web site known as The Jets Blog (www.thejetsblog.com) for my fellow NY Jets Fans to see. Maybe some of them can make an addendum to this letter by adding some additional suggestions.
Please say hello to the gang, and give Blitzen (Our Defensive Favorite Reindeer) a tickle behind the right ear for me!
Thank You
**** *****
#$^* this team
period
When they start playing good ball and stop running there mouths, ill give a $%*& again.
They dont deserve us to care this much, I think I will go and get a life now
the jets made MJD look like Barry Sanders, David Garrard look like Warren Moon, Sims-Walker look like Jerry Rice and the Jags won with a gimmick field goal today…….right REX
Funniest line:
“Our defense is so good that we cant even give up a TD even when we try and let the other team score”
What are these people doing saying don’t be fans anymore? last year was a fluke… rookie head coaches and qb’s dont go to the playoffs… this will be a very solid team in a 2 years, and by really solid, i mean afc championship game solid
Sanchez is a complete stud he leaves these games and the jets are WINNING, the defense, while good, isnt that great and blows leads when we don’t need them too.
If you claim you stopped liking the Jets then get out of here, we don’t want to listen to you and dont come back either, we dont need people like you
The worst part and best part of being a Jet fan is the pain they inflict on regular basis. They have got to be the team which has lost the most games in the last 5 minutes. There’s always next week, though, and when next week doesn’t matter there will be next year. Real fans don’t given up on them (though they may turn off the TV early every once in a while to maintain sanity).
As I’ve been saying, the OC just is not doing a good job playing the hand he has been dealt, which is a rookie QB and an experienced RB. Given those two options, the Jets should be running pretty much every play. Sanchez will learn — very few NFL QBs are great from the beginning. He has potential. But this year they should be running a lot more and passing a lot less. We would then have fewer INT and probably more W. It’s as if the Jets come in every week without an offensive gameplan. I don’t understand it. But, hey, maybe the OC is just a lot smarter than I am.
I agree with an above statement… if we had mangini without jenkins we would be 2-7 easily. HAVE FAITH PEOPLE
can i just say i am really against Revis returning punts/kicks(cant remember)….If Revis goes down with an injury then you have to question the coaching staff’s decisions!
For the people who have been saying “it’s time to play the kids and see what they’ve got”, I ask you this:
WHAT KIDS?
wow-rough loss but this goes on Ryan for not whipping these guys in practice. off during the bye. Full Pads in practice!!! where was the tackling today? Bart Scott better shut that mouth and make a few frickin plays–a sack or pick perhaps? same for Kerry “hollywood” Rhodes–cut him–does he play on D? pathetic performance from a pathetic franchise –why do I watch. btw Plaudits to DeVito–that guy has heart!! give me 11 of him of D and they may stop somebody!!!!!
WOJF
I dont know what you are talking about, who called Sanchez “Pennington with a better arm” I think that is what YOU expected. I never read a scouting report that compared Mark Sanchez to Chad Pennington.
And for all the young QB’s you have seen throughout your Wise Old expert football career, previous to last year, the only rookie QB to get a team to the playoffs was Marino. Ryan is the exception to the rule and Flacco, if he didnt play with the REX RYAN LED ELITE BALTIMORE Defense, would not have been good enough to get this FLAWED Jets team to the playoffs
Name me a quote that Rex or Bart Scott said ” We are an elite defense”.
You wont find it. They never said it.
They said alot of stuff about being a good football team, having talented football players, Channing Crowder, going to the White House mulitple times in the future, and they may have hinted that they hope to become an elite defense, but never said “We are an elite defense, no one can score on us”
The media, like Dick Enberg and Fouts proclaimed them “the ferocious Jet defense” at the beginning of the game, ran with it because of Rex’s history of having top 5 defenses and based on the Jets statistical performance on D.
Football players and coaches dont call themselves “elite defenses”. That is a media created term, used to compare defenses in pregame football shows or sports talk radio.
I tried to be nice, because in general, your pessimistic and negative posts irk me- and anybody who refers to “themself” as Wise and Old, needs to take a look in the mirror.
You should change that to “Old, Bitter” or “Bitter ,Old” Because that is what you sound like
Oh man, Brady and Belichick are gonna fry this team alive next week.
Golden opportunity and they blew it, its so hard to say. I promised myself I wasnt going to check out the comment boards after this game because it would just depress me even more. But of course I did, ive been the guy on here that was always saying week after week, “its ok this teams better than this” and stuff like that, this is the first week im actually starting to doubt my faith in the Jets. When the jets went up 1 and it came down to jacksonville needing to drive down the field and get a field goal, i for the first time honestly didnt believe they would be able to stop them. I was hoping and it looked good for a while, but 3rd down after 3rd down they would make a play when they needed to. I still love this team and I love the Jets and that will never change, but i hate the fact that I dont believe in them anymore. The defense player GREAT in the second half, didnt allow a first down until the last drive, but yet i still felt the time the Jags offense was finally gonna click was when they needed to, and they did. The Jets can compete with ANY team and i still firmly believe that which is why i think its stupid to think they will get blown out in NE next week, im more kind of expecting them to compete and than lose it again at the end. Im dissapointed in the defense because they made it a point this bye week to try and get more turnovers and they only got one, but it was a muffed exchange so i dont really count that. id hate to think they were trying to get turnovers so much that it was affecting there tackling and coverage skills, whatever it was it wasnt pretty. The only good thing about being a fan of a team that seems to be good, but not good enough every year is that when it finally happens(i pray to god in my lifetime,im only 21) us jets fans would enjoy it so much
Bitter should cover it. NY sports teams have historically been terrible except for the Yanks and recently the Giants. For some reason, my lot in life has been to root for teams that end in -ets. So yeah, you can say I’m just a little bitter.
few points, maybe if some of these guys would set up
Brian Thomas -(Who), not one sack
Bart Scott- overrated, yes, has some fire but more talk than tackles, how about a big play for some of that Jet bucks you got
Sanchez- every game a major mistake!
Phouha- lifetime back-up, never stepped up
Lito Shepperd- Eagles are laughing, another missed tackle
Rhodes- make a play!
I got nothing tonight….. This night is for the Hank, fonzie and Ed(itor) of the fanbase.
I just have nothing to say about my team right now.
J-E-T-S Jets, Jets, Jets … SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also Pete Carroll does not deserve an apology. Sanchez was projected to be drafted mid to late first round. His TALENT got teams to notice him, and Washington and the team that just beat us today, BOTH wanted him bad.
Pete Carroll was looking out for his program. Mitch Mustain and Matt Barkley are not Mark Sanchez. Pete Carroll knew it. Sanchez goes #1,2, or 3 this year if he stays in school barring injury.
So basically, the Jets got the probably first pick in this years draft a year early
AKA…Drew:
Don’t get down, don’t give up hope man. It could be worse, lots worse. The Jets could be 1-7.
But remeber though, Fonzie did try to warn you about the Jags, and about Rhodes and about Scott, and about……..ah, forget it!!!
As a Jets fan, I never cared to watch any other game than the Jets game each week. Now I find myself watching other teams play. I guess I am becoming more of a football fan and losing faith in the jets each year.
Every year its a different issue that this team just can’t get right. Are the New York Jets an NFL team or just another business in Woody Johnson;s portfolio? I don’t believe that the football is his true passion, money is. This is one of his toys. As was the case with Leon Hess.
Someone got it right when they said that all the Jets were about last year and at the beginning of this season was making headlines in the media….from Brett Favre, to Rex Ryan & Mark Sanchez. all to sell PSLs.
The Giants can command the PSLs because the last couple of years they have put a better football product on the field. Luckily for Johnson, the Jets are still in the NY market.
As I watch these other games, I see the the teams that win BOTTOM LINE making plays. If you can’t make the plays you won;t win the game.
Get the issues with this team right (its already too late)
What is the solution?
OK a playoff shot is over.
Do we have any chance an winning the division title?
schottenheimer is horrible. he rarely has any feel for the flow of a game. we are blessed to have a talented young qb for first time in franchise history since namath, so back off sanchez.
the defensive backfield is overrated because of rhodes sucking and missing the big man up front.
I’m glad my fellow Jet-sufferers see this mess for what it is. I can’t complain about Sanchez –for a rookie he’s fine but when your D doesn’t play well in key spots it makes it tough for a rookie. Running game on 1st down hasn’t been great either so I see him in a lot of 3rd & longs lately–not an ideal situation for a rookie. Again this team needs to be coached better so Rex has to step it up & get tougher on these guys. When Jim Leonhard has more sacks than B. thomas & B. Scott something is wrong here.
2009 was always about 2010… but now everyone knows it.
The rookie QB still looks like a rookie QB. He has flashed potential, but realistically it takes 2 years for QBs to adjust to the NFL game. If he continues to make these kind of mistakes next year, then we may have a problem. But this kid has solid physical tools, a good head, and a fighting spirit — 2010 should be a much better year for the kid.
The defense was expected to be a top 5 defense, but without Jenkins dominating the middle we are again seeing the weaknesses exposed. The scheme does a great job of keeping offenses off-balance, but teams like Miami and Jacksonville have been able to line-up and play smash mouth.
In addition, the team is forced to overload to get any pass rush. Thomas continues to be a disappointment in the pass rush (no surprise there), opposing teams seem to be able to focus on Pace, and Gholston continues to be a bust.
The bottom line, is this defense needs some young, physical talent to be added to the D-line if this team wants to compete for a playoff spot in 2010.
Oh yeah… Schotty did not throw the 2 INTs today and Schotty did not play poor defense in the 1st half of the game.
Let’s get real guys… Schotty is fine. The problem is not the play calling or the preparation. The problem with the offense is the team is starting a rookie at QB and that means opposing defenses will force him to beat them. On some plays he will win the battle and look good, but on others he will struggle. The NYC media may have built this guy up to be the 2nd coming, but the reality is he is a rookie QB that is learning to play at the NFL level.
I am surprised by the negativity. I mean don’t get me wrong, today was my BDay, I’m on my honeymoon in Costa Rica, and I watched the Jets lose another close game to a team they should have beat, but I am not as upset as most of you fans. Our team is relatively young, our coach and QB are rooks, and we have promising playmakers on both sides of the ball. This year was never gonna be our year. Within 3 years if this team has made no progress, and our QB is still making questionable plays, then worry. Now, try not to be so down. Things could be worse.
LMP23:
Thank you for the acknowledgement. And that is eactly why I despise the The owner and his suck-up.
We were sooooo primed to win last year, then they threw it all away by outsmarting themselves in a PR move to sell PSL’s. Now this year, they want to fire up the fans and rope in the spanish market !!!
Hank I think it’s a bit much to insinuate that they only drafted Sanchez to reach the Hispanic demographic.
Last things for the night
I dont get the Bart Scott hate. He really didnt play that bad today and cant be blamed for this loss.
I DO get the Kerry Rhodes hate. Fonzie kind of has a point there. He gets paid a lot of money to just be around the ball.
Last thing- Is Richard Seymour UFA after this season? If he bolts from Oakland, go get him
Damian;
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
Let me see, today is your bithday, you are on your honeymoon in beautiful Costa Rica and you are WATCHING the Jets.
I’m sorry guy but, YOU NEED A CHECK-UP FROM THE HEAD-UP.
PS. Drink a bottle of AGUARDIENTE and everything will be all right!!
Everytime Hank makes a valid point, he gets crazy and completely SCREWS it up.
Hank No, no,no,no,no,no
Sanchez goes top 3 (probably #1 if Mangini doesnt get the pick) in this years draft. There were 3 ( SF, JAX, and WASH) other teams drooling over the kid.
Please I am part Hispanic, dont go there its offensive
Eddie,
Barring a franchise tag, yes Seymour is a free agent next season.
I’m not a fan of Bart Scott but he makes tackles/for a loss too but his bark is too big for his mouth. just quiet down now. Plus the d-line clearly needs help–draft pix & Seymour. Remember even with Jenkins that d-line got no sacks/pressure. Mr. T. keeps trading those picks for players so I’m not sure what we even have in 2010. not good.
Brendan:
Hy guy. If it makes you feel any better, I listened to Rex’s presser after the game and really came away impressed!! For the first time I came away with a positive feeling about the guy. I heard him speak in a thoughtfull, considerate way about the opponent, AND his team. Maybe he will learn to be a bit modest after all !!
Anyway, the season is still not over if the Jets can beat NE and the ‘Phins do also, as I think they will.
Its a long shot , I know but 10-6 can still win the division.
totally totally heart breaking loss… 4 of 5 losses have ben within the last 5 minutes of the game.
this defense is just plain bad. ive been to 4 games this year, and have seen 1 sack i think. david garrard had about 10 seconds to throw the ball, and rushed for a 12 yard TD.
Rhodes is horrible in the secondary… two big passes on that last drive, to non factor receivers…
how do you stop them the whole second half, except for when YOU HAVE TO STOP THEM?????
The only good thing was that i got into a box in the second half, ate drank, and met curtis martin, randy beverly and mel gibson…
home losses to BUF,MIA,JAX are just HORRIBLE!!!!!
Santa,
P.S. Help us Draft Eric Berry.
Bart Scott is better than Kerry Rhodes. Just barely.
Go Jets beat those patsies.
LOL, I can’t even convince myself.LOL
GO JETS!!!
I told everyone last season that Schotty was garbage and even made Favre look awful (gimme a break with the lame injury excuse)…I also NEVER wanted Rex or any other rookie head coach after Groh, Edwards and Mangini….Rex looks far worse than all of them…He reminds me a lot of Pete Carroll, but with a way bigger mouth (and body)…Pete Carroll actually showed more as a rookie coach than Rex has thus far and was fired after one season as Jets head coach…Rex has been awful in every department and even his defense is beginning to look like Mangini’s..I think he’s in way over his head..Remember, his father was also a great defensive coordinator but lousy head coach…I know it’s early but so far he looks more like Rich Kotite than Mangini…I never thought that I’d miss Herm and Hackett…Edwards and Mangini both made the playoffs their rookie season with far less talent (Groh just missed the playoffs on a missed kick as time expired in the last game of the season)…Rookie head coaches usually don’t improve that much anyway, especially when their Rex’s age and have been in the league and have as much experience as Rex (Mangini was like 15 years younger)…Now I know why the Ravens passed over Rex and hired someone outside their organization…It reminds me of when the Mets were the only fools in baseball who hired Willie Randolph…The Yankees were so happy to get rid of him so they wouldn’t have to pass on him when Torre would eventually leave…My final prediction is that Rex will be fired after the Jets flop again next season and everyone on this board (who at the moment are in love with him) will be calling for his head…I hope that I’m wrong and Rex leads them to the Superbowl next season but deep down inside all you Jets fan know that’s never gonna happen…Here’s to 2011!!!!!!!
The Jets have to learn how to win games and be a good football team. Their record as a favorite these last three years is terrible. They always play down to their competition. I think Rex Ryan thought beating New England changed the culture, but its just ingrained in these guys. Other than a handful of players the Jets players all come from being in a losing culture. It is going to take alot of work to fix that mentality.
James in TN,
We would have to lose every game the rest of the season to get Berry. That is a pipe dream and we don’t have the picks to trade up for him, nor should we. If anything we should be looking to move back to get extra picks and load up on lineman and looking to get a beastly pass rusher.
Belichick went for it on 4th down from his own 30!!! Peyton is going to bring it home!!!!
Watching the Pats lose would be a very, small, minute lift after today
Belichik just made the dumbest decision in the history of the NFL……Hopefully the Pats lose and make us end the day on a good note.
1 yard away for one of the most amazing comebacks you’ll ever see in a game between 2 elite teams.
Ha ha can’t wait to see people try to defend Belichick blowing this game.
Well at least the Patriots lost…
TOUCHDOWN!!!!! What a game.
I’m loving it
For everyone who wants to have Rex Ryan fired
Even the greatest all time HOF coaches, have their moments
Brendan;
I told you man, don’t dispair, the Pats just lost!!!
If we did our job we’d be playing for first next week :(, regardless love seeing the pats lose
I can’t believe I just saw what Belicheck did. This is just amazing way to end the day.
Just imagine what our reaction would have been had we won the game today.
Brendan;
And this loss really, REALLY hurt the Pats. As much,or more so than the Jags hurt the Jets !!
Hank,
I hope you’re right, but we’ll have to prove the world wrong next week to prove it.
I said it before in the guide to rooting post
Peyton Manning is Bret “Hitman” Hart
“The best there is, the best there was, and the best there ever will be”
The Pats were up 6…A TD beats you….what was Belicheck smoking…I could use some of that after some Jets games
Eddie,
Brett just did a wrestling performance for charity at my old high school. I kid you not. Damn right I went.
OK People.
Jets are 2 back.
We play each other next week.
Then we have the Panthers while the Pats are @ the Saints…..this division is not over. Only bad thing is that the Dolphins are more in it than us
That was a friggin awsome game with the perfect ending!!! (Indy & NE) I feel a little better knowing NE lost, thats for sure……(not that i feel any better about our Jets, but better knowing NE lost!!!)
Brendan, good point we do need OL and DL depth, but Eric Berry is a once in a decade Safety. I would like to shore up the NG and the RT position though.
How about those Pats losing LOL. Love it, if only the dolphins would have lost.
The last Pat possesion was Jet-like.
Shot themselves in the foot after outplaying the Colts for much of this game.
60 minutes. Rex has got to start preaching THAT to the boys
YW Hank/Naples…..You are also right about the Spanish market. I noticed on the Jets website, on the homepage all of a sudden were pics of Hispanic fans that were never there before. Not being racist or offensive, just an observation.
You got that right Eddie. Brett was my all time favorite wrestler, and Peyton is now my all time favorite quarterback. The Colts are the greatest team ever. They are my new favorite team. Good riddance to Rex and his Merry Band of Losers. I’ll be rooting loudly for the Colts when they manhandle the Jets later this season.
Former Jet Fan and Brendan-
Dude the Brett the Hitman Hart era was the only time I would wear pink without a wife/girlfriend buying me something and making me wear it.
Former Jet- I feel the frustration, but Peyton did us a favor! Hopefully by the time we play them, they will have wrapped up home field and will be resting guys.
Peyton wins more SB’s if he and Brady switched places. You give Peyton the defense that Brady had, and no one would ever beat him. He is the greatest, ever. Period, point blank
LMP- I get what you are saying, but I dont like the sound of a guy being chosen over someone else because he is Hispanic. Sanchez got drafted because we needed a QB and he impressed a lot of teams in the top of the draft with his PLAY and WORKOUTS. It offends me because I am half Puerto Rican. No one gave my mother anything because she is Boriqua.
Guys the season is not over yet! Why are we all on here being so damn pessimistic? We’ve already beaten the patriots once this season. They dont have as good a running back as the jags do and Brady CAN BE HAD. The Pats must be shooting themselves in the foot after this game, think about it, this is basically the Jets after they lost to teh dolphins. A demoralized team playing a bad bills team at home, throwing it away. WE CAN WIN AGAINST THE PATRIOTS! Not only that, IF we win against the patriots we can be in first the following week as they play the saints and we play some sub par team. This division is shaky, this conference is shaky, this season is not determined yet. Im thinking 9-7 could even get us into the playoffs as division leaders. You’ve got to think, if the patriots lose against us, they’ve got atleast 2 more losses after that the remainder of the season. Yes, what would have been ideal, was to beat the Jags today, beat the Patriots next weekend, and take a comfortable 2 game cushion (1 win more than patriots, also owning the tiebreaker with them incase they were able to tie the jets in wins). We could be undefeated this season, its just this team doesnt play 60 minutes. The 3 games i saw that the team played the whole game were the first 3. Rex needs to emphasize this. What SHOULD be on the Jets mind is beating the patriots and only beating the patriots. What i saw today were players who were thinking beyond the game, thinking into the game against the pats when there were still 3 minutes to be played. WE CAN DO THIS. I know it hurts to believe because we always get burned but whats the purpose of being a fan without these times? Without the bad times the good times will never be as noticeable and feel as satisfying.
Come on Jets fans, lets rally this team up. I want to still be watching Jets football well into January, however unlikely that thought may be.
Dont some of you people get sick of making excuses and trying to rationalize what happened. I am, I have been doing it for weeks. Its time to stop the, “well if this team does this then that team”
THIS IS NOT A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM. PERIOD.
WE HAVE NO REALISTIC SHOT AT GOING TO THE PLAYOFFS
we have lost 5 of 6 games, thats not a fluke, the 3-0 was
For those that watched the Colts / Pats game and said to themselves that we are even in the same leauge, you need a reality check.
Im not saying we dont have talent, this roster is loaded with studs, but talent does not make a good team.
Colts did us a favor. Peyton could have been on the Jets if he had came out his Junior year.
Go Jets beat the cheating Pats.
will,
there are no excuses. all there is is hope. something that you lack. something the jets players lack. something the fans lacked in the stands today.
want to know why new york teams are rarely successful? simple, the fans.
look at other teams, look at the steelers and the vikings fans. look at the crowds and look at the support their teams get. only fan i see that actually gives an effort is fireman ed.
look at the first 3 games: 1 win away, 2 wins at home — crowd electric
look at the next 6 games: 1 win away, 3 losses home, 2 losses away. a crowd that was pathetic against the bills (ive never heard a stadium so quiet from start to finish), todays game (which was mediocre at best), and a dolphins game where the fans decided to take a 2 quarter coffee break when the team needed them the most. its no excuse, but what im saying is there is no support to this team.
ur gonna tell me that whats there to support when you have to watch such a bad team play. good question… the players themselves need to believe in what their doing, something bart scott revealed the jets roster does not do. and how do we get them to believe in themselves? fan support… oh wait, what fan support? look at this whole thread… says enough about what the players are getting.
Will I agree with alot of what you are saying
You cant have just the Darelle Revis show. Bryan Thomas aint going to get it done as the Weak Side LB in a 3-4. Our ends like DeVito – who plays hard and is great on running downs-, Pituoua and Douglas, apply no pressure.
This team is a few players away or a year from being a consistent winning playoff contender
Sry, but you can’t blame the fans, that’s ridiculous. Blame Schotty for poor game planning, blame Rhodes for uninspired play, but you cannot blame the fans.
A few thoughts, now that the bad taste is washed out slightly by that Pats/Belichick abject fail:
1. I’ve had it with this defense, namely Kerry Rhodes. I’ve heard every excuse known to man why he doesn’t have an interception or an impact play in a billion games. Enough with the excuses. He hasn’t earned one penny since he signed that extension. He’s a joke. Honestly, if the Jets let him go tonight, I wouldn’t shed a tear. At least our other loudmouth (Bart) makes a play every once in a while. As a larger point though, our defense is nothing but a bunch of schoolyard bullies. They’re tough guys in blowouts, then in tight games they turn into gutless sissies. By my count, three of the five losses (both Miami games and today) can be blamed on the D being unable to get a clutch stop. There are some talented guys (namely Revis, Harris and Pace), but they’re inconsistent and we have way more holes than we want to believe. Rhodes is a clown, Bryan Thomas needs to go and our D-line is terrible, even with Jenk.
2. Who the hell does Sanchez think he is with that press conference speech and ‘you shouldn’t have any questions’ remark? Listen, I like the kid a lot, it’s clear that he’s going to be a very good quarterback and he has a lot of heart, but he’s as immature as any player the Jets have had in my lifetime. That was flippin’ inexcusable in the press room. If I were one of the reporters, I would’ve walked up to him and punched him in the face. Rex or Tanny or whoever the hell has any authority in Florham Park needs to sit him down and bring him back to earth. He’s got the physical tools to be a terrific QB, but he has A LOT of growing up to do, FAST. He’s cracking, and this is far from as bad as the media can get.
3. No more talking from Rex about how good we are and how unlucky we’ve been. We’re not any good. Period. We’re mediocre at best. Again, I like Rex and am glad he’s here, but the gutless defense is a direct reflection on him. He was supposed to mold them and he brought a lot of guys in, and they’re jokers. There’s no way earlier in the season I thought I’d be saying that, but here we are.
I’m still here for life unfortunately (anyone jumping ship is a douche, sorry, and will be back as soon as the Jets win a few games) and my hope for the future is still in tact, but there are major issues that need to get cleaned up before this year is out. Period.
Joe B , well said.
Joe B. I second it. Kerry Rhodes is garbage !
As a long time jet fan [69'] what blows the mind is that one year we look like we’ve got something going on, we add better players and the following year we crap ourselves. Seems like every couple of years we do the same thing, ie SOJ. What some of you fans need to do is what I have done and that is to put your heart on velcro, this way it’s not so painful when our team pulls it out. Honestly when they lost to the Fins, for whatever reason, I automatically clicked on autopilot because as a fan for years I know it aint happening this year.
So as we do year in year out… sit back and by the end of the year hope we have grown.
P.S. New England lost to the colts tonight… they are gonna kick our arse at home next week… or maybe the Jets will win to keep us guessing. Aaaa the life of a Jet fan… isn’t it grand…
Same old Jets!!!!!!
Enough with you Schotty apologists!!!! You guys are ALWAYS making excuses him….Penninton is hurt, Clemens was never any good, Favre is too old, and now Sanchez is a rookie…Favre was MVP runner-up to Brady then goes and Jets and is horrible…Then he goes to the Vikings and is once again an MVP candidate…Do you see the connection??? Favre’s a year older and had about the same time to prepare with the Vikings yets he’s just like the Packers Favre (gimme a break with the lame injury excuse)..Where was that Favre when he was on the Jets?? The real reason that Favre was nowhere to be found last season was because Schotty didn’t know how to utilize him correctly…Schotty tried turning Favre into a Chad Pennington clone but that would never work because they are total opposites…Schotty has been bad every season with the Jets..His best season was his first because he confused teams with his unorthodox play-calling..By the end of that season everyone figured out that Schotty was just plain clueless and is easier to figure out than my kid sister on Playstation….Even Mangini said that Schotty was no good his first season with the Jets…By Mangini’s last season he had to script the opening drives for Schotty…What a shock that Mangini’s scripted offensive plays were the only time when the Jets offense looked like it was pro caliber…Schotty is a joke!!! Please give Callahan the play-calling duties!!!!
All I can say is Thank God fan message boards don’t run franchises.
same old jets … just louder and fatter
The way I see it is we need another good corner opposit revis , Lowery and shepperd arent getting it done .
We also need someone else mabe a D-linreman to get to the qb on the blitzs so we dont keeep getting beat . Rex D isnt going to work with these guys .
Also the o-line needs improvement on pass blocking .
Wish we had more draft pics
Let’s beat the Pats and do two things:
1) Salvage a horrible stretch of games and look toward the future with some good feelings again.
2) Actually be back in the divisional race for another week (I don’t think this team is consistent enough yet to sustain a run so it won’t matter in the end, but to have the Carolina game mean something would be nice)
#1 is the real thing tho. Beat the Pats. Feel good about ourselves again. Beat the Bengals and Falcons. Or just win some games with consistent play. Go into 2010 proud of this team, and let these losses work to our longterm advantage as growing pains.
Beat the friggin Pats.
theres parts of these games where the jets look just as good as anyone but then for some reason they start playing dumb…for once i would like them to play a full game of dumb free football…when i mean dumb i mean no drops(keller),no penelties,no ints, and better playcalling…the talent is here just not the brains i guess
hopefully this was the last week revis will be doing punts
this is so frustrating when you look at the talent on the roster, then the record
This team is biggest running joke in the NFL.
Rex Ryan has turned himself into a giant fat, clown, running sinking ship.
I never bought into this guy and his “defense.” I’m sorry, but someone in the NFL that long as DC is a DC for a reason. Newsome didn’t make Ryan the head coach for a reason, and we are finding out why.
The guy is a blasphemous moron, and a team full of the most overrated players in the NFL.
Kerry Rhodes is not an NFL Safety. Bryan Thomas is not cutting it as a linebacker. Our WR’s lack the fundamental ability to catch the ball. Sanchez is 2 seconds late on almost every throw. Oh, and our defense is terrible at tackling, another fundamental.
I can’t tell you how sick I am watching these idiot Jets players dive at Maurice Jones and totally miss him. Bunch of sissy girls out their afraid to really tackle.
The Jets suck, really, really bad. And we are nowhere near a playoff contending team. We are in for another re-building phase, which may or may not take the next four years, depending on how quickly Mr. T realizes the mistake he made in hiring this hick idiot from Baltimore.
Joe B,
I don’t think that our defense is “gutless”. You have to keep in mind that they’re playing without their centerpiece, the most important guy in the defense (Jenkins). The defense had a crappy first half, then came out and shut the Jags down (of course minus the last drive). I think we all see the defense is a player or two away from being truly elite, but they’re on the cusp. Guys like Devito and Pitoitua are going to be very good in years to come. Devito showed me a LOT yesterday. The guy’s motor is relentless and he gets penetration in one on one’s. Pitoitua is a giant out there, and he uses his size to his advantage. If we ever get a real edge rusher, coupled with those guys, Ellis and a healthy Jenkins, and our D-line is going to be excellent next year. We do need to get younger, especially in the middle, but Rex is giving these young guys more reps in Jenkins absence and they’re taking advantage. It’s obvious that Lowery isn’t a real starter. He’s basically a Donald Strickland clone, which isn’t a bad thing, but we need an answer opposite Revis. The linebackers are strong, but Thomas has gotten worse since playing SOLB in Pace’s absence.
Something I never thought I’d say, but Harris had a bad game yesterday. Rhodes didn’t have as bad a game as everyone is saying, but that play on the last drive when he didn’t hear Leonhard yelling to him is inexcusable.
But the bottom line is this defense has only lost us this game (debatable) and the Miami game (MNF one). It’s very good, but is a few pieces away from being elite and the unit we see glimpses of.
Kyle,
We suck really, really bad? I’m pretty sure we’re better than the Browns, Rams, ‘Skins, Bucs, Titans, Raiders, Chiefs, Bills, Lions, Bears, Seahawks, among others. We don’t suck really, really bad. Forget about last season, this team is on the rise. A year of experience for Rex and Sanchez and a year in the defensive scheme with (hopefully) a new offensive scheme next season will show that 2010 is our year to make noise. This year still has a glimmer of hope, and as is my optimistic nature I’ll still hold out hope we can beat the Pats. But as I see it we have a lot to look forward to in the future with this team.
few pieces from being elite ………..<<<<<<
can we be good before we talk elite ……. theres nothing close to elite about the jets ……
ellis is old and gettin older …. his best move is throwing chunks of snow…..
and sorry but rhodes stinks …. unless arriving a second late means anything to ya…
ya know whats alarming .. everyone says rex will learn with every game … yet the in game coaching and mistakes get worse…… .. what suddenly rex is gonna learn theres a clock to manage ?
John,
How can you seriously sit there and say this defense isn’t at least good? This defense is 3rd in yardage and 6th in scoring. After 9 games that isn’t done by accident. Yes, there are mental lapses, a lack of turnovers, and a few missed opportunities to close out games, but this defense isn’t a bad defense by any means.
ok .. theyre almost good …..like rexs prediction
i can say it .. cuz they collect stats but dissapear in the big spot .. every game …… good d rise to the occasion .. this one asks the crowd for loudness ,then says it was to loud,,,,,,
if theres an excuse out there … these paper tigers will use it ….thats all they’ve shown …
Ugh, theres one place to lay the blame and thats coaching. Just like in the piece at the beginning of the tthread. Youre running the ball well, but you wont run in the red zone. Why?
Because Schottenheimer is an awful coordinator. Firing him this year wont be good for Sanchez (who is playing well despite the picks). Next year he HAS to be a goner. I hate this guy. This Oline and TJ dont have more than next year at top shape.
But Rex is the cuplrit in this loss. The team looked lax and didnt play with fire on defense. Kris Jenkins’ backup must be our first pick in the upcoming draft.
Im not even jumping off the ship yet, because a win at NE will change the outlook all together. We need a good draft and a change at offensive coordinator to live up to the potential that we DO HAVE.
Kerry Rhodes is a complete hack.
Eddie D-
I’m not saying that the Jets took him because he is Hispanic, I am saying that the Jets are using that fact in their marketing after the fact.
I don’t understand why Mangini handed us everything we wanted after getting fired.
The Jets will never win until the owner realizes that the henchmen that he hired in Tannenbaum and Ryan are not capable of building a winning football program. Sanchez is a joke. How in the world did they draft this Pee Wee Herman is beyond me. This is my last year at the Meadowlands and I am so happy that I will no longer financially support the Woody Johnson and his merry men of idiots.
We are happy to see you go rudy. Sorry it took financial woes on your part but it will make for a better fanbase without you.
LMP- No harm, I got ya, I wasnt offended by what you said, it was Hank, and its really not that bad but I dont want to hear it from( based on his posts) a middle aged, upper middle class, white guy about how the Jets drafted a Chicano to appeal to us crazy NY Latinos.
Besides Im half Italian half PR, now MY MOM would go LOCO if she heard some ish like that…
The Jets suck and we are stuck with Kerry Rhodes for the next five years. This guy is terrible!
Brendan -
I admire your optimism and loyalty, but I’m sorry, when you’re barely on the field for the second half, and your mediocre opponent starts from its own 16 with the game on the line, and you still can’t get a stop to hold onto the win, you’re gutless. Kris Jenkins’ absence doesn’t explain away the thousands of missed tackles, pathetic non-pressure on the quarterback and terrible secondary play by everyone not named Revis. They’re gutless. They have some pieces, but no heart. It pains me to say it, but pretty much every time they need a clutch stop, they’re nowhere to be found.
Hey Brendan, yes, we do suck really really bad. We have bought almost every good free agent the last two years. We have all the paper talent in the world and we still suck, bad! Please, Rex prove me wrong but at this point. You are a bad coach on a bad team!
Joe,
I understand your frustration, I am feeling it as well. But you are making it seem as if we have the Browns defense. Clearly we could/should be better in certain areas, but we’re still a solid team. I wouldn’t say “gutless” is the right term. I doubt they’re making mistakes for lack of “guts” (which I take to mean confidence, pride, and in this case, skill) I just think it’s a compounded issue that stems from their need to make big plays (which, as I had been talking about all week, would lead to them giving up more big plays) and their poor tackling. It’s not “guts”. I think this is a very prideful group of men, who have had 2 games where they played poor and fans are ready to blow up the unit and start over,
Brendan, I’m not ready to blow up anything, but they’re sissies. That final drive encompassed who they are. Loudmouths who like to strut during/after a blowout, but when they’re actually called upon to get a big stop, they can’t do it. I’m not saying much about their talent, other than that we still have more holes than we’d like to admit. They’re still a talented group, but they can’t come through when it’s time to back up the talk and earn the money. Period. Do we win that game with Jenk? Probably, but Jenk was on the field for the final drive in Miami too. All I’m saying is enough with the excuses. Enough with the partial credit. They cannot get the job done when it counts. I don’t know how that can be argued.
We’re a top 10 defense. We stopped Tom Brady, with the ball, with a chance to win. We stopped the Titans on their drive in the 4th with a chance to tie. The Jets’ defense has been the reason for a loss in two games, the MNF game and yesterday. Other than that, the defense has put us in position to win, every week. Buffalo game? Offense and Specials. 2nd Miami game? Specials. NO game? Offense. So in 7 of 9 games the defense has been very good. Not always the height of consistency, but they’re a good unit. Certainly, they are not “sissies”.
Has Rhodes made one impact play all year?? The guy is always a second late. His football instincts are terrible but his mouth works great. A paper bag would provide better defense. At least someone could slip on the bag.
