Jets Sign LB Kenwin Cummings from Practice Squad
The Jets have signed LB Kenwin Cummings (6-3/250 DII Wingate) to the active roster from their taxi squad, the first time since his signing with the Jets in May of 2008 as an UDFA.
With the waiving of Carroll, I thought the Jets might get a little “beefier” and Cummings is definitely that. Cummings is a guy that has promise, but it will be interesting to see if he gets activated for gameday or not, and if he does, where does he play? One would think he’s a special teamer for sure, but you have to wonder if he might see time on defense too, as the Jets might want to learn what they have in Cummings before the season ends as he’ll be in his third year next year. Cummings is the size where he could be a versatile linebacker for the team, maybe playing a David Bowens-esque role … able to play ILB and OLB where needed … with even some down lineman (where he played collegiately) mixed in. I’d imagine that using him as an ILB makes more sense, since the Jets are logjammed at outside linebacker.
Is this a sign that Vernon won’t be back for a long time? I think his injury is not that big as they r tellin us

I think it is a good idea to bring up Cummings. I was at the game and one thing I noticed was that our Kickoff team was a weak group. We need some stronger players in that group. You can’t send out all DB’s and WR’s and not expect them to get blocked. Good move.
Rex just announced Leonhard to have surgery- no timetable on return. Carroll move was more because Cole had usurped his role but was evasive when asked if there were other motives involved. Also said the timeout on the first and goal play in the fourth quarter was because they tried to catch the jags napping with a quick snap but they were ready for it so play wouldn’t have worked. But then why didn’t they just audible???
Is that true about Leonhard? I don’t have access to streaming video feed at work so I can’t watch any press conferences, but I don’t see that surgery announcement anywhere else yet.

I like this kid Cummins! Maybe this is a replacement for Gholston and Brian Thomas!!! Let’s hope he Cummins rushes the QB better then both of them… From what I recall he looked great last year and this year in preseason!
Kenwin is a 1 man wrecking crew. He’s tough, violent, and has no concern for safety. in other words: he’s perfect.
Kenwin has a lot of promise but then he puts a Jets uniform and puff?……….
I’m curious to see what everybody wants out of next year’s draft. If they can part with Gholston somehow over the offseason, I’d love for them to go 1. Edge Rusher (i know we have pace and thomas.. Pace is great, but how many impact plays/sacks to thomas have?) 2. D lineman – hopefully a guy who can play DE and NT when needed.
