Jets Waive CB / ST Ahmad Carroll

The New York Jets have waived DB Ahmad Carroll, who was signed by the Jets as a free agent on July 22, 2008. Carroll played in 22 games for the Jets, recording 30 special teams tackles. Carroll had been a first round pick for the Packers as corner. Carroll was well respected as a core special teamer, but he didn’t ever play corner for the Jets, and that might have been his undoing.

That said, I don’t get. Special teamers Justin Miller and Ahmad Carroll were both deactivated yesterday. Carroll has been with the team for almost two full years and has pulled his weight on specials, while Miller has one bad game, and was deactivated yesterday, will get to stay?

You have to think that the Jets really like what Marquice Cole is doing, and they need to get beefier somewhere else on the team, maybe defensive line. This is the precursor to another move, but I don’t exactly get what they are up to. I probably would have waived Miller first, though he might not be far behind Carroll …

  1. I am shocked!!!

Watch New England pick him up (did the FO forget we’re playing them this week).

If this was done to make a statement, then there are a number of other candidates that would’ve gotten the job done.

  2. yea i figured if they were going to make a statement it would be a bigger move than this, like maybe a benching or something, but I did like Carroll and I felt comfortable with him cover kicks, I think he did a very good job.

  3. Not sure why Miller is still here. if he cant return kicks he should be collecting those shopping carts in the supermarket parking lot for the holidays.

  4. One thing I know I didn’t like–that I thought I’d love–is Revis fieldig punts. I know Leanord was hurt, but no way our best D-guy is fielding punts. Sounds good on paper–but me no like.

  5. Dumb move,

    Just dumb

  6. ED I agree 100%

Revis should not be in a situation where he can get injured!

  7. Agree…Can you say Jason Sehorn ?

  8. Seriously, you mean to tell me we don’t have one fast little jitterbug type who can fair catch is when he’s open by 10 yards in every direction (oops, I forgot…Jim Leonhard got hurt and stopped returning kicks).

  9. Shouldve kicked miller out. Batman was a key component to our ST unit, which will now suffer even more.

  10. Pure speculation but he was playing way too well to be suddenly deactivated then waived, especially a top special teamer.

More to this story, I suspect.

  11. Ed I was thinking the same thing revis cant be getting smashed all day returning pumts . If he gets hurt were F@#$ed

  12. Who do you think they can be getting by getting rid of this guy a FA
