On why others should believe the Jets could still make the playoffs…
People outside the room don’t have to believe it, and that’s fine. Have we given them a reason to believe it? No. The only people that believe it are the guys in this locker room. There is one thing about believing and another thing to do it. That is what we have to do. We have to go out there and do it. I understand if people don’t believe in us and that’s ok, that’s fine. It is up to us in this locker room to go out there and do it and bring all of those people out there back on our side again. We have our work cut out for us, but it is not impossible.
On the team having no margin for error…
There is no margin for error. This is the situation we put ourselves in. We understand that and we have to be accountable to that. Moving forward we do have an opportunity. It’s all about taking advantage of the opportunity. That’s all we can ask for is an opportunity to right the ship and do something that we set forth way back in the offseason. We have seven weeks to prove ourselves as a team. We’ll see what happens.
On how the team can “flip a switch” and find a way to execute…
In the National Football League you can’t flip a switch on and off. There is a natural progression throughout the week to the game. It can’t be something that you get to the game and then boom, let’s do it. It doesn’t happen, it’s too hard. We’re trying to be a consistent football team. In order to do that, it starts from this point forward. Our preparation and then once we get to Sunday, then you have to do it for 60 minutes. That is the only way I know how.

is it only me or ever since k-rhodes did that stupid jetblue secret thing on twitter that jets have only one game??seems like that 3-0 got to their heads…if they only played without the mistakes we can easily be 6-2 right now and sittin pretty
Loser talk, that’s all that is from Damien Woody and to be honest, after fourty years of it, no one is listening any more. Here’s what Woody Johnson should do. Tell the NFL that next year the Jets will be changing their name and their colors. They will scrap the entire history of the franchise and start fresh. Oh , and if Bill Cowhar or Shanahan or Grudin are ready to sign, cut our losses and move on past Rex.
Does anyone else think that maybe REX is to chummy with his players? The coach can’t be your best friend. I hate Mangini, but maybe Rex is too much the anti-Gini. Maybe some guys need to know that there is some reaal discipline & accountability?
I like this team & now we have to look to 2010. I just hope REX gets better.
Cheech, you’re out of your mind if you were serious.
I think you’re wrong about Woody, his comments make total sense in regards to the current situation of the team.
We are 2 games behind the Pats with 7 to play & 1 against them. This is our only hope fore the playaoffs. Pats & Miami falter. We go on a tear. It’s true. Not impossible.
The only way the jets make the playoffs is if Chargers o Broncos tank the rest of the season.
Any idiot that think we should let go of Rex is a fool.
Cowher is not comming here cause the jets will spend but the will not fire ppl in the office. in his words, he wanted a team that wanted to win.
the key to our succes is a good O-cordinator and sign some good players.
the O-line has not played good at all this season.
we have some parts an the main one with Sanchez. let build this team and we will win.
Woody is one of our better players…if only he could get some of our defenders to think like him, we’d have a good team.
As far as Rhodes is concerned, he’s garbage. Not a good player. Never was. He’s the most overhyped player with zero on field accolades in the past 25 years of Jet history. Never have I seen a guy who thinks he’s an all-pro but really is a below average player.
Rhodes epitomizes all that is wrong with the Jets. He’s a talentless loser who’d rather be twittering about how great he is then getting better as a professional.
He flat-out stinks. Watch closely next week at how many times he’s standing with hands on hips as a play is ending. No picks, no tackles, no big plays=garbage player.
Stop with the O coordinator stuff….He’s the least of our problems.
How about getting a guy who can rush the passer. Not since the “Sack Exchange” have we had a pass rush. 25 years.
Bottom line is, beat the Pats. It will give us a shot at first place the following week and potentially give us our confidence back, which we lost on Monday Night in Miami and haven’t gotten back, Oakland notwithstanding.
I don’t know how we can possibly beat them, on the road, them off a terrible loss (they average 20 point wins after losses), after already beating them once, and Brady playing extremely well. But hey, it’s not impossible, and it is all we have left. A win next week is really all we have left to jumpstart the season again.
We won the division at 2-5 once, we can do it at 4-5. Maybe Rex should tell the media that you play to in the game. The next game they went on the road and beat up on a good SD team, if you recall… this game is all we have left.
I’m always surprised how many delusional people there are. I’ve seen it here and on Metsblog: oh yeah if so and so lose and we go on a .800 win streak and do things that we’ve shown absolutely no sign of doing hitherto, we’ll make the playoffs! Its not impossible, it could happen!
My answer is, NO! I wont happen! Why? Because if there is one thing we’ve seen, is that miracle runs DONT happen to this team. Its always some turd sandwich after another. And all we fans ever do on Sunday mornings is say “please sir, may I have some more?” Ugh, I have such loathing for this team and myself for watching this garbage and letting myself get so worked up. I’ll bet most of you share my sentiments. But am I still going to take up valuable time watching this team get demolished on Sunday? You betcha!
we need sanchez to step up and state that “we will make the playoffs”. this team needs a leader right now and the only exceptable leader is the qb position. pennington did it in his second year on the team ( first as starting quaterback ). sanchez must take over this team right now!
Heads are rolling read this link. http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2009/11/16/jets-defensive-line-coach-leaves-team/
“(Rhodes) is a talentless loser” That is a bit much.
Shamik,
We win next week, and it is not unreasonable to think we can make the playoffs. We’d be one behind the Pats with them playing on the road in New Orleans. Not exactly impossible.
mdGordon,
I used to be the same way, but after the past few weeks, it’s clear that Schotty has to go. Look, the guy has some great, great plays. But he also has absolutely horrible plays. He also has a bad football instinct (feel for the game) and calls mind boggling plays. On the first play of the game you wanna take a deep shot? That’s fine by me. You want that deep shot to be a QB rollout to his non-throwing side that he throws 50 yards downfield across his body? That is not fine. That is dumb. And the play (or lack thereof) that I’m most upset about, we get the ball down to the SIX INCH line and he calls a 3 receiver shotgun set. ARE YOU JOKING? Sanchez got to the line, saw they were about to get steamrolled, and wasted a timeout. Not like we could’ve used that later in the game.
all
Give it a break!!!
Rookie coach, Rookie QB. This team will be OK in the LONG RUN. For the first time in YEARS, I truly believe it is going to work out. Yes it will not happen this year but give it time.
Reggie Hodges is on the Browns now? Mangini really went crazy with the mediocre ex-Jets, didn’t he?
rhodes has to get his head out of his ass and out of doing lady gaga videos and concentrate more on tape and working hard to be the best safety in the nfl…
u know where rhodes fell off…right after jonathan vilma left…and you know why? because vilma has an amazing work ethic and him and kerry were buddies…kerry has no one now to keep him in the film room and make him work….i think bart scott should beat the crap out of him and wake him up cuz coming from one his used to be biggest fans his act is growing old
this game is SICK
If Jet players want the fans to believe what they say and not what they’ve seen on the field they’ll beat the Patriots on Sunday. However, the real question is who will show up: offense, defense or special teams AND when: first quarter, second quarter, third or fourth?
As a fan I would hope all three phases would show and stay for the whole game, but then again, I’m a fan not a player.
Shamik — where were you in 2002? Were you old enough to remember being 2-5 and the laughingstock of the league? I remember it. Believe it or not, that team was buried more than this team. I’m not saying it will happen — chances are it will not. But to say miracles don’t happen to this team when in this decade a 2-5 team won the division is either ignorant or that of someone too young to remember 2002.
when all you got is hope, you gotta hold on, as empty as i feel, and every jets fan feels, we will all watch sunday because of that hope, because deep inside we believe the run is going to comeecause, what else can we do? hold onto it, until the numbers say otherwise, the team can make the playoffs in my book.
I cannot believe how awful the Cleveland offense is. You cant play any worse than this. The offense looks lost and a complete mess.
Until we are eliminated from the playoffs completely.. theres always a chance.. who would have thought that at 8-3 we wouldnt make the playoffs and the dolphins would.. nobody.. Until the numbers say were out… were in.. so.. why cry about it… just watch and see… theres still 7 games left…
Brendan,
Maybe I went overboard with the “talentless loser” comment. He isn’t talentless, I just think he thinks he is a superstar, when he is not even very good. I just don’t get it with him.
As far as 2002 is concerned, that was sweet….let’s beat the Pats and spark our season back up.
2 days removed, and I’m already ready to get my hopes up again! Pathetic but true.
md,
Yeah I agree with you, I don’t get it either. Although I do believe that if he never said anything, people wouldn’t kill him as much. I’m hoping it’s just split second hesitation because he’s still getting used to the scheme.
And I’m with you with getting my hopes up. I’m already talking myself into “well, we beat them once….” Gotta love being a Jets fan.
Is it me or is the Brown’s defense better than the Jets? I’ve never seen a front seven so inept at beating blocks. WE WIN ZERO ONE ON ONE BATTLES.
Watching a number of other games this week, seeing pass rushers like Woodley, Mathis, Freeney, Abraham, Dumerville, Allen etc…. it’s apparent how bad the Gholston bust is hurting us. If he was half of what he was supposed to be, we would have 2 or 3 more wins this year. Think about it – the games we won with our D were all blitz scheme. As soon as other teams got some tape – we were toast in terms of a pass rush.
It may be early but I’m ready to give up on this year and start thinking ahead. They need to call plays to develop Sanchez, enough of the complicated crap from Schotty – just line up and play offense. I feel like Schotty’s offense is designed to try and fool defenses to make up for a lack of talent. Newsflash – we finally have the talent. Line em up, Block em up, run good routes and make good throws – simple as that. You don’t see all the shifts and crap from Manning or Brady do you? They may run a guy in motion, but they line up quickly, take their time reading the defense (Don’t have to read it twice – before shift and after) and run the play.
We also need to get young players like Gholston, Lowery, Clowney, Greene and Westerman on the field to see what they have and concentrate on building some actual depth through the draft and free agents who can rush the passer.
Oh… and Never thought I would be saying this but Kerry Rhodes is VASTLY over rated.
PLAYOFFS? **&&%%@ PLAYOFFS? WHO SAID PLAYOFFS?
WIN A GODDAMN GAME FIRST BEFORE YOU MENTION PLAYOFFS!!!@@@%%%
