It wasn’t Ahmad Carroll’s on the field production that got him canned by the Jets according to Lisa Zimmerman.
Basically, Carroll mouthed off a lot including to the coaching staff, had a negative attitude and would sometimes not turn in required weekly tests.
With the steady improvement of CB Marquice Cole, the team felt that Carroll had not only become expendable, but was more of a hindrance than a help.
Basically you can compare this to someone being fired for insubordination.
Still there’s the matter of his salary that the Jets have to carry according to Cimini.
From what I hear, the test situation gave Ryan all he needed to make the move. It was costly. As a vested vet, Carroll’s 2009 salary ($625,000) is guaranteed. That means they owe him another $257K.
While Ahmad Carroll hasn’t been getting caught with unregistered guns and ecstasy lately, it seems that he’s still not exactly a boy scout. Ryan was sick of the act, and he wanted someone to shove. This was a public hanging for the sake of other players to get them motivated. I wonder if it will work.

There is no guarantee that Carroll will receive termination pay if the Jets had cause to release him. If a team gives a player written warning that he is not fulfilling his obligations to the team it gives the team cause to not award the player with termination pay. Not saying that this happened here, but being that this “test” story leaked and the fact that he was inactive for two weeks makes me think that he and his agent were warned of this and Carroll will not receive any extra money.

Dwight Lowery, Lito Shephard and Donald Strickland probably all do a lot of homework. Dwight has a lot of film to watch from Sunday on how not to cover a receiver and Lito and Donald can watch film of them whiffing on tackles.
