News: Bills Fire Dick Jauron

by Bassett on November 17th, 2009 at 4:21 pm

News from the AFC East, Dick Jauron was fired today by the Buffalo Bills.

Jauron was 24-33 since being hired by former general manager Marv Levy in 2006 to be head coach. He has two years remaining on his contract that will pay him a total of $6 million in 2009 and 2010.

“I really don’t have anything to say,” was all Jauron would say when reached on his cell phone by The Associated Press.

Defensive coordinator Perry Fewell is expected to be named as the interim head coach. A separate announcement on the replacement was expected later Tuesday afternoon.

Interesting. The Bills have been in free-fall this season and it didn’t help when it was announced that Jauron wasn’t going to be fired earlier this year but didn’t get much of a vote of confidence, and was just a matter of time from that point. The Jets were 3-4 against Dick Jauron during his time with the team.

from the latest article by Don Banks at SI:

There are no bigger frauds in football than Rex Ryan’s big-talking Jets (4-5), losers of five of their last six games after that 3-0 start. And let me quickly remind everyone that I had fully bought into New York before it got off to a fast getaway, predicting in the preseason it would be an AFC wild-card qualifier. Missed that one.

Ryan keeps talking up his team, but it sounds like so much hot air now that the Jets have lost three consecutive home games to AFC opponents Buffalo, Miami and Jacksonville, none of whom played the Jets with a winning record. The Jaguars were the latest opponent to expose New York’s once-boastful defense, rolling up 347 yards against the Jets and their shoddy tackling, including 139 on the ground.

Mathematically, the Jets remain in the AFC wild-card picture. Realistically, they’re done for the year. That loss to Jacksonville was basically an elimination game. And don’t look now, but New York is headed to New England next week. The Patriots, no doubt, have a bit of revenge on their minds.

OK let’s look at this for a min.

NE, yes we are away, but we actually don’t have a losing streak like we did at home against them

Carolina, well since it’s at home it’s in our favor, but so was the Jacksonville game

    Bucs, enough said

Bills, It’s in toronto they just fired their coach, what else do you want

Falcons, Matt rayn has not faired well in the last couple of weeks,

Colts, by the time we play them, they would have gotten home field for playoffs and start playing back ups

Bengals, same situation they possibly could have won their division by now

Our playoff hopes are bleak, but It’s very doable

    lmao

Don Banks was leading the hype parade after we started 3-0…hahahaha this is hysterical.

Dont get me wrong, I enjoyed our 15-minutes of fame this season, but I love how Banks blames Rex Ryan’s talk for all our teams failures. He says he bought into it before we were 3-0, well I remember his articles from after the TEN game… he was infatuated with our team then, as was I. But he’s the one with a weekly national publication.

Yeah, blame Rex for making you look bad…haha

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe has been suspended for four games for violating the NFL’s policy against performance-enhancing substances.

so do you guys still want him over braylon

  5. avatar JustAGreenGuy says:

I don’t think he looks bad at all. I still think he is a good writer. Jets looked like a real team back at 3-0.

  6. avatar starz31 says:

he is a good writer and I don’t mind his articles, but maybe I’m just fed up with the media turning on us now. I understand this is what happens when you have a coach who wears his emotions on his sleeve. unfortunately thats a great fit for the media but probably not for himself.

They praise him when we play well and then they bash him and blame him for when we start playing bad. Yes, he certainly deserves some blame, but I feel like it’s just grasping for a story…(i.e. sensationalism, which btw probably sums up Sportstalk radio and newspaper tabloids)

NE – I cant remember the last time Pats dropped 2 in a row.

Carolina – doing much better, and with a power running game in the cold and a defense that can’t tackle, I like their chances. Delhomme-Smith is still a potent combo.

Bucs – played the Phins much tougher than we did. 50-50 for us to win this one

Bills – The only game I see the Jets winning this season.

Falcons – 50-50 shot, depends on how Turner’s doing.

Colts – They should be relatively healthy by then. And if they’re undefeated they still have something to play for.

Bengals – Maybe they’ll have pity on us if they’ve sewn up a spot.

    Pessimistic, nah, more like realistic.

The only surprising thing about Jauron’s firing is that it didn’t come right before the Jets game so the Bills could have had a spark from their new coach and beat us. That’s happened quite a few times over the years.

  9. i love it…wilson says something never seemed right with jauron at the helm…the bills could never get over the 7-9 hump…yet our fine squad somehow managed to go 3-4 against Dick. perfect…

    good riddance

  11. avatar bleedsgreen&white says:

las time the pats dropped 2 in a row was to us….twice!!!

  12. avatar Bobberson says:

The media’s turning on us? That’s news to me. I just thought they were looking at a 4-5 team that’s lost five of its last six and has no conceivable hope of winning any time soon and responding accordingly.

The 3-0 Jets and today’s Jets are two completely different teams.

Let’s hope and pray(not literally) that Schotty gets the job in Buffalo so we can play his vanilla offense twice a year!!! That would be just perfect… I bet Rex would send a very nice letter of recomendation for him!!! Schotty has to be the weakest link!’
