After hurting his hand during the MJD touchdown in the first quarter, Jim Leonhard came back onto the field to play the rest of the game with an immobilizing brace, but it sounds like he won’t be going this weekend against the Patriots.
Coach Rex Ryan was uncertain of the nature of the procedure, or whether Leonhard might be sidelined this weekend or longer.
“They said when they go in, they’ll have a much better idea,” Ryan said of the doctors. “They don’t even know if they’re going to put screws in it, what they’re going to do.
“When I heard it, surgery, that doesn’t sound good to me.”
…
“It doesn’t feel good, I’ll tell you that much,” Leonhard said after the game. “It was on the touchdown. Missed tackle and a touchdown – it doesn’t get much worse than that – and hurt your hand.
Ryan said he wasn’t sure if Leonhard would be able to play in a cast, as he did for much of the game Sunday.
At first glance you’d think that if he can play with the injury in-game, why not next week? I think it deals mostly with what the surgery requires and whether or not they can adequately protect his hand (and likely deaden the pain) from whatever invasive techniques they use to fix his hand this week. You’d think if they are putting screws in there, there’s no way he’d see the field this weekend.
The biggest problem is that Leonhard calls the alignments for the defense, and specifically the secondary. Now with him out, I’d imagine that it would come to Rhodes to pick up the task. Rhodes has done it before in Mangini’s scheme, but he’s made it clear that he might not like doing it. Going against the Patriots and Tom Brady this week, this is a bad week for them to lose Leonhard.

Rhodes must really suck if he isn’t smart enough to run the secondary alignments on his own by now.

well Rhodes didnt listen to Leonhard when marcedes lewis broke thru for that big catch.
Im not worried interms of playmakers though ive always liked eric smith.

This team makes me sick…. I thought soo much of them this off-season and the first few games only to find out that they are the same ole Jets.
The only glimmer of hope I have, is that every other year we win 9/10 games… But I’m tired of saying next year.
Do I even watch this weekend ???

Kyle,
Rhodes is smart enough. When Rex brought in Leonhard, he knew it would be the easiest transition to just have Leonhard call the defense for the secondary, since he had been doing it in Baltimore since stepping into the starting lineup. Rhodes could have done it, but why would you make him when you have someone who already knows how to do it?

I just truly hate most Jet fans…. Led by the 2 jack asses on WFAN right now.
I hope we walk into NE and kick the crap out of the Patriots. I am so tired of the whoa is me attitude by you phony ass fans….
Yea we lost lost tough games….yea my coach got emtional after a tough loss, yea he talks talk, yea he fired a coach that wasnt doing his job correctly.
Who gives a crap. This is my team and if we are going down I am going down fighting.

I haven’t listened to those morons on WFAN in a long time. I’m surprised they are even talking football, considering that there’s only six months until baseball season starts and they can spend their days fomenting very realistic trades like Luis Castillo and Daniel Murphy for Roy Halladay. If I’m going to guess their conversation, it went something like:
Evan Roberts: “Joe, I mean, Rex Ryan, would you SHUT UP! You sit here talking all this talk AND NOT BACKING it UP! I mean, this is terrible!”
Joe Benigno: “Totally bro.”
ER: “I mean, how can you sit here and say all this and not back it up? And then NEW ENGLAND! I’m so sick of being a Jets fan!”
JB: “Absolutely bro, no doubt about it.”
ER: “I mean Joe, I’m have had it, I’m done, I don’t want this team anymore, I’m sick of them.”
JB: “Oh the pain bro! No doubt about it! Same Old Jets! Absolutely! All right, 10:40 flash…”
I’m pretty darn fed up with the team myself, but I’m still going to watch on Sunday. Its not a certainty that they will lose, and what Jets fan wouldn’t get happy over sweeping the Patriots?
-
Benigno just said that if Rex went for it on 4th like the Pats did on Sunday night, he would kill him for it, but since it was Belichick he thinks it was a good decision and defends it. This guy’s a Jets fan?

GIVE UP !? NEVER!! Lets go into New England and oh yah where we have won in recent years if I do recall? This might be the case where in the first part of the season no one was giving the Jets credit to do something based of playing a super tough first four weeks and would be lucky to get to 2-2, but the Jets won their first three games and handled the tough part pretty well. Now with the “easy part of the schedule” we didn;t do so well…over confident? Dunno it is in the past its over4 with. Now we are in the same boat as we were in the start of the season. No one is giving the Jets a shot to win. I bet the Jets play a great game and I hope they win and shut up all the bridge jumpers.

Joe B is a schill for Bill Bellichick. He loves to rip on guys like Fireman Ed for “schilling” for the Jets, but never, EVER criticizes BB because once or twice a year BB comes on his show and says nothing. He yells at callers who have the temerity to say they believe the Jets are going to win. He’s awful. Listen to his show and you’ll understand the true meaning of “Oh the pain!”

With or without Leonhard, this team will get shredded this week!

I have been a Jet fan just like all of you have and “I’ll go down fighting” as well. But, as fans we all have the right to complain. Here are some reasons why…
1- We lost games that we could have won due to poor play (Bills, Dolphins 2x’s and now the Jags)
2-FO screws us into paying tons of money to go see our team.
3-Vernon Gholston
4-Now we have to hear everyone on sports TV abuse the Jets (which we know they love to do)
5-Weak AFL uniformsThere… still a fan but, really mad about it.

AKA — I’m right with ya — i was gonna say the same thing after reading PDubbs comment but you beat me to it. I am getting so sick and tired of the whoa is me fans. Same old Jets. Yay, I can be angry. I am more tired of the fans than I am the team. It’s draining.

This season is not over. If anything, we’ve been shown that our team this year has been (at the very least) entertaining to watch play. Have I seen some faults? yep. Have I seen some sparks? yep.
Games lost in the 4th quarter (or, OT) are frustrating… But I like the team were fielding this year. Something about them makes me think that with a couple tightened bolts they can really play.
I say the team wins out in an “entertaining” fashion.

So how about the NFL draft next year?
