Just saw something on ESPN- Mark Scherleth- former NFL guy was asked about the Jets struggles- this basically summed up his analysis

“Inconsistency at QB position. Sometimes Sanchez is brilliant other times he is terrible, cant be a playoff team with a QB who cant put a team away or gives the ball to the other team”

Rex Ryan was never even mentioned. Now that was my basic assumption as to why the Jets collapsed and why they wont make the playoffs. You guys can call for Rex Ryans head, but Im going with the former NFL guy.

Look, I hate the “SOJ” phenomena because you really have to judge each season, each team and each coach on their own merits. This Jets team is vastly different from last year’s. Yes, I know the results may be similar, but there is reason for optimism. Boone catalogs these, but it bears repeating that Rex has done wonders with the defense, but he still needs more of “his” guys and, more than anything, needs a reasonably healthy Big Jenks (until a replacement is groomed) and a pass-rushing WILL. Also, as I’ve said repeatedly, expecting to win with a rookie QB who is struggling (like Sanchez has) is almost impossible. It’s too bad that the Jets started 3-0, it just raised everyone’s expectations (mine included) way beyond what we should have rationally expected. But, because you never know what you’re going to get with a rookie QB, the Jets could either win or lose any game left on their schedule. We will just have to live with the ups and downs.

That’s OK Brendan. I’m not totally SOJ. I try to be optimistic, and I’ll be here for year 41. But, the article recapped the same sentiment–be patient, we have injuries, we lost by only a 5.7 point average, rookie coach and QB. When a team wins, no need for that thinking.

Enough guys. How many of the players, coaches, GM’s, front office people, beer men, hot dog guys, cheerleaders, mascots are still around from 40 years ago?

And how many fans?

See, the only thing keeping SOJ alive, is the SOJ fans. Stop the pity parties. Stop expecting bad things to happen. Stop celebrating in the struggles of this franchise (Hank, Fonzie). Stop relating this present team to one that was around before any of these players were even born. Stop.

Agree SD—I will start to believe again when the game results change. Till then I will remain to be a loyal Jet fan, show up at the home games and root for them to win. But after 40 years I would love to see some games wind up in the W column.

Obviously Rod’s new to covering this team.

This team was the talk of the league at this point last year. Then the QB got hurt, Jenkins wore down, and the ball boy masquerading as a HC got stuck in neutral.

Despite the collapse they won nine games and had every meaningful player under contract.

So whats a poor accountant masquerading as a GM to do? Yeah, go hire a rookie HC and use your entire draft on your QB and RB of the future all the while spewing that this remained a win now team.

Brilliant!!

And now we are supposed to be patient, for the 41st year?

I love the comparison of the Jets’ D plight and that of the Pats. I particularly like the unavoidable and implicit concept that compares Garrard to Manning – obviously they are both future HOFs.
