AUDIBLE: What’s your favorite rival?
In the last 15 years, give or take, the Jets-Patriots rivalry has developed a strong, intense nature that’s hard to deny. From Parcells, to Belichick, to Martin to Mangini, there’s been a constant nature of back and forth with both teams; players, coaches and even fans have traversed both sides of the rivalry.
I saw in the comments on E. Weekes’ daily links that some of you believe the Dolphins are the Jets’ premiere rivals (something I agree with) but it’s hard to deny that the Patriots have become quite a fun team to beat.
So my question to you is not what’s the Jets biggest rival, but what’s your favorite team to watch the Jets play? Is it the Giants? Dolphins? Patriots? Seahawks? Bills? Have at it.

The Pats. They’ve been the big bullies of the AFC East since I’ve really been following football closely. Nothing gave me as much pleasure as watching Jay Alford plant Brady into the ground in the Super Bowl a couple years back. It was textbook! Hell, I still play the clip every now and then.
Miami – by a mile. They are the only other divisional rival to have won a Super Bowl (without cheating)
I’m going to say the Dolphins.. Because the games are always good, but I love beating the Pats.. They’re just something more satisfying about Revis beating Moss and picking off Brady.
I go Miami. The Miami fans always make it interesting regardless of their teams record. And although it was more than 15 years ago I will never forget the Wesley Walker game against Miami. Just incredible.
pats.
99% of younger jets fans that are in the age range of 1 to 25 will say PATS…because they have kicked our ass since as long as we can remeber
I am part of this age range and i dont think we care too much about the Phins games because we have kicked their ass for as long as i can remeber…the games werent as fun because there was almost 100% chance we would win….
Unfortunatley, It looks like it will now be BOTH the Phins and Pats because…
WE SUCK!!!
Two words: Mud Bowl.
Oh Yeah…and to answer the questions posed: I love watching htem play the Pats hands down…
They are a great team and everytime we beat them i feel as if there is hope for my favorite team in all of sports…
Lets go jets (even though we suck)
Living in South Florida, I have no greater hatred for any team more than the Dolphins. They make it a point in the media to bash the Jets whenever they can. I hate the Patriots, but the fact that the Dolphins carry this chip on their shoulders as if they have been relevant since Marino makes me hate them even more.
Of late, I have a strong hatred for the Patriots, but in the words of Wes Mantooth, “Goddamnit, I respect them.” I’ve seen Brady make so many great plays against the Jets, its hard not to respect him, even if he probably is an @ss and he kills us every year. The Dolphins on the other hand, are a total joke. They can’t sell out their games, they trot out “celebrities” like J-Lo and Marc Anthony as “owners,” and their fans walk around with such an air of superiority, which, when you think about it, is completely undeserved (they last won a Super Bowl in what, 1972? Made a Super Bowl in 1982? BFD). Add in loudmouths like Jason Taylor, Joey Porter, Channing Crowder (who sucks), and I have deep hatred for the Dolphins.
My first year being end of 04, I didn’t really care so much for any of the rivals, because I didn’t know much of the history of the Jets, I was a new fan same as 05 season, but after 06 season I started to realize, I really should hate the Pats, up until we lost to the Fins, I started to hate the Fins more now, because of all the talking the 3 consecutive losses, and that god damn Jason Taylor, he makes me want to punch babies, sometimes what makes losing to the Fins bareable, is taylor being blocked the entire game.
My new team I love to hate is the Fins. so does that answer your question.
I love beating the pats the most.
I love beating the fins much more now that Pennington isn’t playing for them.
I like it when we play the bengals because we beat them every time.
Most likely it depends on your age, or more accurately, when you started rooting for the Jets. For me it will always be Miami (unless they re-locate or switch conferences, etc), because growing up throughout the Marino v O’Brien shootouts, the Mud Bowl, the Duper 217 yard game, the Marty Lyons v Don Shula fight, Allegre’s OT FG, the fake spike, Monday Night Miracle, Pennington beating us last year means a lot more to me than what essentially amounts to a 12 year grudge over stealing Bill Parcells in 1997 and pissing off Bill Bilichek over it.
ourselves
I guess I didn’t officially answer the question but it’s the Dolphins.
If the Pats go back to being in the toilet and a 3-13 team, and Belichik leaves, no one will really care, yet no matter what the Dolphins can be 2-14 but if they beat the Jets twice they are ecstatic in Miami. I love to play against that team, win or lose it’s always fantastic drama on and off the field (see this year for example)
Seriously its the dang dolphins followed by Oakland.
Fish
51-45
It’s hard not to say the pats especially with Spygate but I love squishing the fish!
The ones we beat!
dolphins…..I hate their logo, their stupid fins fight song all their players and 99% of their fans. The reason I say 99% and not 100% is cause I live down here now and its hard not to make friends with some dolphin fans……but hands down its the dolphins…..
I hate Jayson Taylor so much It almost makes me want to say Miami, but being 16 I hate Tom Brady more and Bellichicken so Patriots.
Season sweep of the Pats? I think so. GO JETS
Pats…and I live in Miami. I can’t stand the Dolphins, but to be honest with you, it feels a lot better beating the Patriots. Both of their fans suck, but Dolphin fans are some of the worst in the country.
subwayfare:
You had to bring that up, didn’t you.
Still hurts today!!!!
i’m 26 and went to college in massachusetts during the patriots superbowl cheat assisted victories. i really dislike the pats and their fans, but i goddamn HATE flipper. it’s not even close.
80’s dolphines
90’s bills
2000’s pats.
all time – dolphines.
all time most hated players. 1- marino 2- brady 3 j.taylor 4. b. smith 5-t.thomas
Dolphins, no doubt. Mud Bowl, fake spike, and, now, 3 straight losses. If you lose to the Pats, you lose to a great team,,,the Fins suck and we suck twice as much for losing to them. I hate the Fins.
Well….I hope one day…. I know it’s asking alot….. but for Christmas, could we please, please beat the Raiders?
2009 Jet’s Suck.
2010 Jet’s are where it’s at.
Hey Mark, do you feel it? That hot sensation on your neck? It’s Ainge breathing down your back waiting for his deserved chance to help this team win. For the money you make, you need to make a statement and make it now!!!
Without question, Miami. There are so many incredible games (good and bad): AJ Duhe, Kenny O v Marino in my favorite regular season shoot out, the fake spike, Monday night miracle. Of course just writing that sentence made me vomit. Twice.
I HATE THE FINS AND THE PATS FU*K THEM BOTH!!!!!!!! GO JETS!!!!!
I hate the dolphins, because im japanese both them and the whales bombed us
F%^&^aaaa you dolphins!!!!!!!
Def the Phins, until Belichick and Brady got to NE you could count the number of good seasons the Pats had on one hand.
Between Marino beating our heads in from the 80’s to early 90’s,Mud Bowl, Jason Taylor’s sissy underwear modeling, watching the human gutterballs Mark Anthony and J Lo in the sky box,and dropping 3 straight to them….I HATE THE DOLPHINS
miami beat us 2times then an afc championship aj duhe lye blackwwod etc the jets had a good team that year yes i hate miami
I like beating the Pats more than anybody right now, but I hate losing to the Dolphins more than anybody.
I’m in that 18-25 range of Jets fans, I’ll admit it, so the Patriots rivalry is much more serious to me, especially now that I’m living in Boston. The Phins just haven’t been all that relevant during my young fan years.
Honorable mention: Beating the Raiders is always fun, especially at the beginning of this decade.
Browns. just cant seem to beat em………..yet
Man,
I hate the Pats with a passion, they are just the smug rich guys in all those movies, that your supposed to hate and root for the slacker, underachiever which would be the jets.
but man oh man, do i hate the phins, and the bills, and the colts from the old AFC east days.
Oh and i’m 23.
really though, i hate every f8cking team but the jets, i love beating them all and hate losing to them all, but the Pats and phins are both my favorite to beat.
In highschool me and some friends who are Phins fans used to go at it hard.
In college everyone of my friends where Pats fans, and we never beat them then.
It has to be the Dolphins not matter your age.
It all started for me with Marino in the early to mid 80’s
It has to be the Dolphins. Remember for nearly 20yrs Marino whipped us all the time and I will never forget that. He threw more touchdowns against us than any QB has thrown against 1 single opponent in NFL history. Which I believe is over 70tds.
Also remember they sweeped us this year. If we didnt let that happen guess who would be leading the division? I hate the Dolphins Jason Taylor and South Florida DAMN THEM TO HELL!!!!
Since I have been a fan since 1988. I have hated the Miami Dolphins but I always had the pleasure of them choking in the playoffs, so my pick is the Patriots. I hate Brady, Bruschi, Harrison, Seau, Faulk.. I hate the “Patriot Way” and how they are somehow better than any other organization. I hate when the media acts like if you say something about them, they use that as motivation. It’s the NFL, you shouldn’t need any motivation for sundays. They act they are so high and mighty. God it pisses me off. I never met a Patriots fan til 2002 and man do they come out of the woodwork. I can’t wait til there streak is over. That being said I still hate the Dolphins, but it has to goto the Pats.
Jacksonville…HAH
I thought it was the Pats, but after thinking about it for a long time, its the Dolphins. I hate everything about them. They’re obsessed with beating us.
I’ve been a Jets fan since before they were the Jets–I saw the Jets play in the Polo Grounds and in Shea–and I can tell you it used to be the Raiders that fired us up. Then it was the Bills. Then it was the Fins. Now hands down it’s the Pats.
The Pats are the team to beat in the division (and in the league).
This year even though we dropped two to the Fins, if we could possibly sweep the Pats, I’ll be flying.
Last year it sucked much less that the Jets collapsed down the stretch just because the Pats didn’t win the division!
It will always be Miami. Regardless of anyhing that has happened between the Jets and Pats over the last 10 or 12 years I never despised them in quite the way I despised Miami.
I’m 35 and been supporting the Jets since ‘85 so that’s a lot of ill feeling that’s been built up.
“Remember for nearly 20yrs Marino whipped us all the time and I will never forget that.”
He actually went 17-14 against the Jets in his career and over that period the Jets were almost always the underdog. Then he retired and the Jets won like 9 in a row over Miami. They were fun to play back then. Now? Not so much.
“Well….I hope one day…. I know it’s asking alot….. but for Christmas, could we please, please beat the Raiders?”
Yeah, it’s been ages since we beat the Raiders…three games ago!
AKA Drew, it’s all about the age. Look at all the comments from people who are 25 and younger. They know nothing about the 80s. You can’t blame them for not caring about all the glorious history between these two teams, all they’ve had is the 12 year grudge between Kraft and us over stealing head coaches from one another. In 30 years there may be a Buffalo rivalry and there will be people saying NE is more of a rivalry, and then 70 year olds saying Miami. Just the way it goes.
Bent — are you downplaying the Jets-Dolphins rivalry because since Marino retired the games haven’t been as fun? This year had a couple of amazing games, especially the back and forth one at home. Reminded me of the 80s. Last year they won the division on our field with our QB, and with Parcells. The Dolphins lost to NE to give us the 2002 division. The Monday Night MIracle was one of the best games in the history of the team, and that was the first game against Miami after Marino retired!
I know that right now the Pats are the best team in the past 10 yrs and the whole Bill fiasco that took place ruffled a lot of feathers, but in case anyone forgot, Parcells is now on the Dolphins, and Mangini is no longer here.
As long as the Pats are great, they will certainly be a great team to play twice a year and battle with, especially when we are good. But the Dolphins are by far the most entertaining games, whether we are good or bad.
Im in the 18 nto 25 age range and i really really hate miami. to be honest ive been spoiled when it came to miami this is only the first time they swept is since ive been watching football which is since 97.
now to the raiders point..the only thing i know about the raiders is every time we went to the playoffs be it second or fist round we lost to those bastards got i hate rich gannon with all my life.
but back to the present..there is no bigger piece of crap than brady all these backhanded comments about the jets and you spend most of your time in lower manhattan? if i hadnt moved to ct from the city i wouldve camped outside of his gils house just to back smack him..it wouldve been woth it…
but as far as the fins i just hate them with all my soul because of what they represent they are the worst team look a joey porter…they say bart talks too much but at least he can still play..joe porter cant even back up his talk that piece of crap!!!!
but i think it comes down to who we are playing any given week…i hate the pats and just want to beat em like some of you guys said because everyone thinks they are so perfect with their coach who can cut off his sleeves and not get a fine..
but they fishes…..ah man…its even for me hate pats and fish..and dont forget how the nfl move the colts out of the afc east as soon as they realized manning was one of the best..why? you tell me why? because if manning was still in the afc east he would never win a superbowl between us and everyone else in the division? but i digress…f pats and f phins….love..go JETs we are the best now and forever pats got down today 27-17…REVIS!!!#1
remember i called todays score!!!..lol
Greg – No way…I just said it was less fun because we lost!
I didn’t really answer this question but the way I feel is that, at the moment I dislike the Pats about as much as the Fins, but that’s because of their current set of players, the coach and some of their fans. When they were a lousy team and when they become a lousy team at any point in the future, they are/will be an afterthought compared with the Dolphins.
I’ve always disliked the Dolphins, whether they were a good team or a bad one and regardless of who the coach and players are. I even like Parcells and Pennington for example, but this didn’t take any of the shine off Jets-Dolphins.
Finally, the rivalry with the Dolphins is clearly better than the Pats rivalry because of all the iconic games in the series.
If the Jets lose today, at least we can all take solace in the fact that it will hurt Miami’s playoff chances!
Good point Bent… as much as I hate the Pats, I don’t care if they win the division as much as if Miami were to win. So since we are unlikely to win 6 of 7 here, might as well screw Miami.
And yeah, being on the down side of the rivalry is no fun.
bleeds — if you get the score wrong, will you never predict one again or keep trying until you get one right.
Kewpie to Fitz for getting it.
For the past few decades, with the brief hiatus involving Parcells, the Jets are not a fun watch; it is more of a penance. I refuse to watch another Jet loss this year or even a close game we eek out a win (thank god for DVRs).
We need a coach who actually addresses, head on, the losing culture infecting this team. Only then will Jet fans be able to watch games knowing they can beat anyone, will not throw victories against lesser teams away, will make other teams look like cursed losers, and compete for a SB.
Right now, being a Colt or Pat is as much a state of mind as being part of an organization that knows it can win and believes it will.
Frankly, I doubt this happens in my lifetime. I think Rex’ refusal to acknowledge SOJ will prevent him from addressing it. From the media, to the fans, to the players, instead of doing what it takes to win, folks are looking behind them to see who is gaining on them; a losers game.
harlan
For anyone who has been a fan prior to Bilichek taking over the Pats and Brady’s golden boy beginnings, the answer has to be MIAMI.
It stretches all the way back to the 70s, as they were the team to beat in the division, then came the Richard Todd-AJ Duhe disaster, the Kenny’O-Marino shoot out, the fake spike, half the Miami fan base comprised of ex-NYers, the Monday night miracle…
No comparison. MIAMI throughout the years has been our biggest rival. The Pats only over in this era and if the Colts were still in the AFC, I would actually have put them before the Pats. Super Bowl III, those Joe Willie days were we used to cringe watching him get hit by Bubba Jones, Bert Jones scortching the Jets, beating Peyton Manning in the early days, the 41-0 playoff win in the Meadowlands when the Penny led the Jets from the brink of being counted out of the playoffs and no season ticket holders even bought playoff tickets because nobody believed in them…
40 years with Miami vs everyday with the Pats since Mo Lewis nearly killed Drew Bledsoe…
I am 30 and while I detest the Dolphins and their fans, there is no ther team I’d rather see die in a fiery crash then the Patriots. Funny thing is my hatred for them didn start until after they won their first stolenbowl. Why couldn’t have mo Lewis just left good enough alone and let bledsoe run outbounds!!!
i hate the dolphins, and theyre 10000 fans from nj at every game in the meadowlands, but sitting in 337, we ALWAYS sit next to the visiting teams section, i saw more jags fans last week in jersey than i ever saw in jacksonville. so i hate every team the same on sundays because i wanna win so bad sitting next to a bunch of idiots doing a J-A-G-S JAGS JAGS JAGS chant, get a life. but anyways, my list from most hated on down. 1.)Dolphins 2.)Patriots 3.)Steelers 4.)Raiders 5.)Buffalo (I guess, like to make fun of people from buffalo so we’ll go with it.)
hate the dolphins most. Probably always will
The Jets biggest rival is Miami. The best place to watch a Jets Fins game is at Miami. No fans are so severly affected by the J-E-T-S chant as Dolfans…they hate it with a passion.
Three teams you couldn’t pay me to root for: Dolphins; Flyers; Braves. Like a bull seeing red – the mere sight of their colors sends me into a rage… I actually rooted for New England to beat the Rams in the Super Bowl (Martz was such an arrogant d-bag, I wanted to see him go down; plus N.E. was the underdog back then). Of course, my favorite Super Bowl moment ever (having been born in ‘71) was watching the Pats lose their bid for a perfect season and the NY Post running photos of people in starving African nations wearing the 19-0 shirts that had already been printed up.
Rivals change from decade to decade. Take the Mets, for instance. Years ago, it was the Braves who were our most hated rivals (it was also the Braves who won the most penants). Now, though, it’s indisputable: the Mets most hated rivals are the Phillies.
I used to hate the Braves. Now I almost feel sorry for them. But the Phillies? I want them to lose every game they play–I wanted the Yankees to sweep them in the WS this year.
Same with the Jets. I used to hate the Fins the way I hated the Braves. Now I hate the Pats the way I hate the Phillies–I want the Pats to lose every game they play. And in the Pats/Giants SB, I went buts cheering for the G-men, and I am not a Giants fan.
All of which is to say, rivalries heat up and cool down. I’ve been a Jets fan long enough to remember when the Bills were IT in our devision, and we hated them most of all. Now I almost feel sorry for Buffalo. . .
Er, that should be nuts not buts. Damn itouch.
Flipper.
Although I do love seeing bellichick get pissed off when the JETS beat up on his boys.
keep trying..lol go jets
