Game Recap: Thank You Sir, May I Have Another?

animal_house_760.jpg

Like Corey said to me while we were waiting for Rex … “you have to laugh.”

Corey and I talked some after the loss here at Gillette and here’s three key things to think about. I’ll write up more later tonight once I’m home, but drowning my misery in beer is calling.

Sanchez Knows He Needs to, But Will He Say Uncle? — In his presser tonight, Mark talked about the ability to say “uncle” on a play. Mark talked about it this week in his presser, and he went out there, and refused to do it in-game. Look at the interceptions that came on second downs, look at that wicked playfare that he should have thrown away. Sanchez talks about learning his lessons, and he’s gotten a lot of good ones so far. Now it’s time for him to go from orhtodoxy to orthopraxy.

Posterized — There’s going to be a lot of attacks coming from a lot of different directions on Mr. Rhodes, and they’re all justifiable. Since his ‘Hollywood’ days, there was always the question of “will the off-the-field stuff affect the on-the-field?” … are we there yet? This week, his own DC was all that defensive of his guy basically calling him the antithesis of a “gym rat” and his play today was shaky at best. There were a few plays where he was run over unable to stop the run effectively and his play against the pass wasn’t all that better. Rhodes technique looked terrible.

The Run Oh the Run — People were talking glowingly about the Jets run defense after the loss of Jenkins, but look at some of the teams they played, Oakland, Buffalo, etc. Miami 2 was the one game that I was actually impressive with the run defense, and today showed that this team is currently not able to defend against it.

Ghosts of Gholston — The story of Gholston getting picked over Leodis McKelvin by Mangini and the Jets scouting staff’s disdain is looming larger and larger … more on that later.

More later, keep chiming in with your comments on this game, we’d love to hear em.

  1. release rhodes after the year,he sux,i mean really,he sux, fire shotty as well, and fire the gm as well, draft berry, and a decent pass rusher in the second round

  2. To all who hailed me as a looney for the remarks I have made about Rhodes being on of the worst safeties in the NFL can now officially tell me how right I was. Accepting apologies.

  3. Once a jets fan always a jets fan….there is a ton to be done with this team.. I beliewve in Rex and Mark.

Schotty, Rhodesand Lito must go . Only if we could get someone to take out first 2008 round pick. Mister, I don’t hit anyone!!!!

  4. You may think im just sayin this because im a jets fan but i think they will go far next year. With the new stadium and rex and mark having a year under there belts this could be a year for the books but i just hope we can finish this season with dignity maybe go 9-7 8-8 and root for the bengals and against the fins and pats.

  5. They could get something in a trade for rhodes maybe sheppard

  6. im so tired of watching other teams in the playoffs, gosh we suck with a capital SUCK,screw the jets,im done with them

  7. This team has totally emvarrased us as fans of football. We gve the most immature and inept players and coaches in the NFL. This team is in for another rebuild. Faneca is done, we need a new safety, a new Defensive line, a new RT and Moore can hit the road too. We need LB to replace Thomas and I am not convinced that Sanchez is the real deal after learning nothing since game 1. Anybody who consider his team a contender is drinking the cool aid. We need to come to the realization that this team is going nowhere fast.

Oh yea, we need a new CB too. Optimism is great, but there is none of that to be had here.

  8. come on did we really expect much of anything else out of this game?

who here thought we would win?
who thought sanchez would NOT throw a pick or two or four?
who here thought we would stop the run w/o jenkins?
who here thought welker was gonna be held all day?
who on this blog would have picked the jets to sweep the pats?
who thought we were much better than a .500 team?

we know our weaknesses and so did Belicheck. what are you gonna do?

ugly game, but wasnt that expected?

WE ARE WHO WE THOUGHT WE WERE! quit drowning yourselves in tears, with the “same ole jets” talk.

  9. Not much to be said here. The Jets split with NE, who are just clearly a better team. It’s the losses to Miami, Jacksonville, Buffalo etc that ruined this season. Ryan looked truly pissed after the game. Sanchez says he’s learning but keeps repeating the same mistakes week after week. That’s a little scary. Let’s face it, what choice do the Jets have? Kellen Clemens? Kerry Rhodes looked awful and may be a candidate to be cut as a shakeup move.

  10. Kyle…he is only 23!!!!!!
They now need to build this team around him!!!!

  11. hangar-
    edwards gone? come on now…

and would love to have CP back as a QB coach, but i think we nipped that in the bud when we went behind his back and ran him out of town!

  12. I expected to see a Jets loss, yes, but to lose this way is unconscionable. Sanchez is allowed a pick or two against a good team, but 4!? And its not like they were tipped/deflected passes either. These were literally thrown unto the gut of the defenders. Throwing into triple coverage time and time again, throwing behind his receivers, Sanchez was absolutely dreadful. The few good throws he did make, were dropped.

In addition, the Defense absolutely sucked. They were absolutely terrible on all accounts. I DID expect them to stop the run, not to miss five tackles in a row. Every person on that team should give back their paychecks for this week except for Revis and the Special Teams punt coverage unit.

  13. There is a facebook page dedicated to the firing of schitty

  14. i really didnt think we had a shot to win this game but the play has been worse as the weeks go on! bart scott & kerry rhodes are the biggest jokes! all mouth & nothing on gameday..take your acts somewhere else….learn from revis who talks om the field with his play not his BIG FAT MOUTH!!

  15. He is 23 and learning nothing. Stafford is obviously the better QB. You grade rookies by improvement and Sanchez gets worse. At least so far.

  16. kyle- stafford played the browns…. this is laughable.

everyone step away from the edge.

  17. I look forward to the following for the rest of the season:

The continued beatdowns of WR by our All Pro D Revis.

Better understanding and play of our new defense.

The grooming of a new OC

Sanchez getting better and learning to throw the ball away once and a while

Rex getting more comfortable being the HC.

********* I apologize to everyone for defending Kerry Rhodes. I am not sure what has happened the last few weeks. Just speechless

  18. Rebuilding r u kidding faneca isnt done our d-line is great we do need a new safety i think woody needs to go more than moore all we have to do is resign braylon and leon and trade kerry also get a new offensive coordinator all these things can be done

  19. Rhodes has had enough time playing in a big city – he’s way too distracted.

Trade him to Buffalo or Seattle.

  20. Trade Rhodes, just get rid of him. I dont care what you get for him. I’ll take the 5th string nickelback and a 6th round pick in exchange for this bum.

  21. they must resign braylon trich and leon how old are the pats running backs kevin faulk has been playin for a while

  22. calm down people! jeez, “he’s not learning… etc.” give sanchez a break.

there we’re more than just flashes of brilliance today from #6. several times, i saw him move his eyes, check down, and make good passes. HE TRIES TO MAKE A PLAY ON EVERY DOWN. WHO WOULDN’T? ESP. a rookie. that’s why he doesn’t throw it away, that’s why he holds onto it so long. obviously, it’s infuriating. but, he is learning. and the guy has a terrific arm, and pretty good accuracy. i am looking for really amazing play from sanchez, edwards, keller and cotchery… especially, next year. he’ll learn to throw it away. HE’LL ADJUST AND ADAPT TO THE SPEED OF THE GAME, and learn how to manage the game better. i have no doubt. are there going to be more amazing throws this year? yes. are there going to be more rediculous picks as well? yes. and im ready to sign on, b/c i see great things coming from #6.

we need to RELEASE D. COLEMAN. his coverage of welker today was absolutely horrible. HORRIBLE.

kerry needs a wake up call. something along the lines of running into a little girl holding a choked off voodoo doll of a green jersey’d #25, staring blankly at him. i don’t think i’ve ever seen such horrible technique or tackling. rex needs to lay into our defensive “captain” regarding his armless tackles.

rex needs to leave the tissues at home this week and lay into his players. too much potential was left on the field today.

  23. maybe i’m in the minority here but i wa hoping clemens would come in during this game. Sanchez has caused the jets to lose more games then win!! Up until today when i would see him play bad he would just sit there alone, today was the first time i saw him actually looking at pictures his ints were terrible. As for the defense i watch this defense and they play with absolutely ZERO discipline They cant tackle they get juked out too much and they make stupid mistakes perfect example 3 down and goal from the 9 and David Harris holds to give them 5 yards and a first down. I can always except a physical beating or a physical mismatch but i cant handle the mental errors that take place on the field.

  24. all this talk about Rhodes and his ‘distractions.’
like if he wasnt in a big city or wasnt into being ‘hollywood’ that he would all of a sudden be good.

he is mediocre. are we just now realizing it? when did he become a superstar. lots of talk like he was Ronnie Lott for the past 3 years and now he sucks. HE WAS ALWAYS MEDIOCRE. why harp on it?

  25. No, Rex needs to STFU and make his players practice tackles all week long. Put pads on, run full speed, I dont care if anyone gets hurt, because they certainly need to get it beaten in to their heads how to actually stop someone once they get a hold of them.

  26. believe me mai fellow fans, i was screaming at the tv and mai bewildered friend all day with k.rhodes play today. but the guy is far from “mediocre.”

i have faith in rex. he will find rhodes’ inner beast again.

  27. Sanchez might just need a game to sit and relax, get back on his feet. I still think he is going to be a good qb he just needs time. People that say he is going to be a bust are complete fools because no one knows what he is going to be yet. Not even Sanchez.

BTW The fact that Favre has 21 tds and 3 ints and is having one of the best years of his career is nauseating.

    F Rhodes.

  28. Something tells me the league has figured out Sanchez, as well they might. But the problems seem more abundant: sloppy coaching, a dead-end game plan, toast in the secondary, a rush that needs the blitz to generate pressure, Why would Tann-average want to head into a season with a rookie head coach and a rookie QB? Not logical. But the news gets worse when you consider we drafted a boatload of draft picks for Sanchez and Edwards, neither of whom scares anyone.

  29. great idea lets sit El Sanchezo against CAR, BUF, and TB.
that will really get him in better form.

    step away from the ledge

  30. Our team is a loud mouth team that was scouted well by the opponents after the first few games Miami took it to them with a smash mouth final drive. Today was a debacle that reminded me of the Thanksgiving undressing in Dallas a few seasons ago. Adjustments were made and our “talented” players, like “mad backer” and “hollywood” were exposed for what they are: below average football players who received big contracts by poor Jet evaluations.
It’s just so painful to lay out thousands for PSLs and in return we get this incredible inept play.

  31. Newsflash
In the last few minutes,Welker just made three more catches for 47 yards.

  32. Please, at this point Sanchez probably couldnt even beat Stanford, let alone Buffalo, who played the Jags a hell of a lot better than we did.

  33. Yes but we got edwards in return for those picks. In 2 years sanchez will be one of the top ten qb’s in the nfl Remember he should be a senior right now

  34. Bye bye jets season!!. The season was lost last week against jacksonville. With ALL THE TALK!!!!!! Where did it get the jets finally. Look from the outside in and with a target on their backs. You have to give credit to the THREE BUFFOONS!!!! WOODY, TANNY, AND REX THE THREE BUFFOONS!!!! I hope woody get a hard time for a while on his psl selling. I want project rex to blow up in his face. Tanny will be cut loose eventually….If not by woody then by some angry fans. You have got to love it!!!!

  35. evreyones so negative

  36. T-shirt for next week – Kerry hit the Rhode

  37. JL
Did you watch the game? Please help me see an upside.

  38. Bassett- About the whole “we should have drafted McKelvin over Gholston” issue, I still say we can’t fault the Jets too much for thie move when every mock draft around had the Jets taking Vernon if McFadden and Ryan were both gone. McKelvin I think was considered a reach at the time (though I may be wrong) and I don’t know about you, but if the Jets had taken the cb instead of Gholston I would have been screaming at the TV “why are you taking a cb when you just took one last year?? We need a lb not a cb!” So again I can’t fault them for that.

  39. Revis

  40. I know the attitude Rex has brought here is a breath of fresh air. I believe the culture of the team has changed for the better. But losing games we should be winning and having disappointing games against division rivals sure does make it feel like the same ole Jets.

I’m tired of the disappointment no matter how its packaged. I sure hope these are growing pains we’re experiencing but only time will tell. Will Sanchez become a franchise QB. I hope so but then again Pennington reminded everyone of a young Joe Montana and we all know how that worked out.

Time heals all wounds but this one just seems to keep bleeding year after year.

  41. I agree sit Sanchez!!!! LOL..good way to learn.

Sanchez is going to be OK. Made some nice throws and some bad ones also.

Edwards is Edwads…. some poor non efforts today. I would not pay him the money he wants.

  42. Rex has indeed brought an attitude, but its empty platitudes and big-talk but no hard work ethic to back it up. The players don’t have any fundamentals or conditioning it seems. They constantly miss plays and are always gassed. This team is putrid and the fault lies entirely with the coaches.

  43. gjet93- i watched the game

sanchez- great throw to j-co for a td. not great- perfect throw
    jones- break off another 100
    harris 11 solo tackles
    D- pressure/hits (4total) on brady
special teams- blocked punt, no kick returns for TD
revis- held moss to 34yds 1td

    upside? i think so.

step away from the ledge buddy

  44. I’m a Fin Fan, but you guys need to stop bashing your QB. The dude has only 1 season in college and should be holding a clip board his first season. He needs to sit on the sidelines and learn from a veteran. He needs to learn how to study film, conduct himself on and off the field, etc. He is to young and plays with way to much emotion. He gets real high after a good pass and very low when he makes a mistake. He needs to learn that when he makes a good pass not to start celabrating like he made a TD, but instead focus on the next play. Only celebrate when you actually make a TD. Learn to finishe the Series.

  45. braylon will take less money to stay in new york

  46. Sanchez cost this team from being in the playoffs this year a good running game a decent defense and an avg qb…. would of made the playoffs……

i am not an nfl scout, but what talent is does this kid have….arm strength ….accurracy…. i don’ t see it….

They were built to win n ow…. should of got an NFl qb to get this team where it needs to go not a fragile rookie…..

  47. p. manning played all 16 games his rookie year and threw 28 interceptions with a record of 3-13

just think if he was a rookie in NY he would have been written off his first season by you guys.

    a benching does NOTHING!

  48. I agree with that though i think sanchez will pan out in the future we shoudve traded for someone who already proved themselves like Cutler

  49. If you have no faith in Kellen Clemens to be avg should of got a decent vet….. Let Sanchez play out this year….. but next year if you want to make a playoff run, get a legit backup and have the hook ready…..

By playing him through his crap period in NY is way too much pressure…. this is not a 1-15 team on the way up an avg qb would of taken this team to 10-6, Sanchez cost at least three games this year with more to play…..

  50. Bookie…can not agree more. Did not walk away from this game as Pis@ed off as most. I see the upside and also see the overrated players we have…
We have a decent foundation to build on…and yes I know about building been around long enough. This is the first QB in a long timne that I feel can take this team to the next level. Again only 23. I’d bet 95% of those on ths blog are older tham him.

Think about it where were you at 23?…not QBing an NFL team!!!

  51. built for now?!!

quick go out and get an established QB. Sign Favre!

we all saw how that worked out

  52. matt
so who would you have QB this year?

  53. As far as peyton and his 29 interceptions…. he was on a miserable team… not a team with a top flight defense and good running game….playoff potential…. Make no mistake about it Sanchez cost the jets the playoffs this year……..He could of learn and worked on his fundamentals til next year….. I would give the clipboard next year and tell him in 2011 be ready to start…. But you have to lock up a solid vet

  54. I agree with Matt. Manning was a can’t miss 4-year college starting QB who was playing on a horrible team. What’s Sanchez’s excuse? From what he’s shown us, he’s more likely to turn into a Joey Harrington than an Eli Manning.

  55. Ok, this has officially gotten surreal. We now have NYers, farking NYers, bitching about players with big mouths and Dolphins fans talking more sense about the Jets rookie QB than Jets fans.

Its as if a rip in the space/time continuum just opened up. Soon cats will be living in harmony with dogs, Madonna will be seen as a role model for young girls and women will stop faking orgasms.

  56. again who is the QB…we all knew what would happen with a rookie qb such as Sanchez…

Schotty is not helping…go get a good QB coach…

  57. If you have no faith in Kellen Clemens you should of brought in Jeff Garcia…. This kid is playing like bottom three qb in the league right now… You didnt need a PEyton manning….. I said it after the Saint game…. YOu had ( with Kris Jenkins) a top flight defense a good running game….. Iwould not of benched him then but the hook would of been ready….. Kellen Clemens did not outplay Mark, in preseason however he would not be playing as bad as Mark has been. when teams are gameplanning against you and playing starters the whole time….

  58. The reason why Sanchez is starting this season has nothing to do with him outplaying clemens but more to do with Ryan’s ego. Ryan has that sink or swim macho bravado that his father has and feels he can win with anybody under center.

  59. Who would have thought week 10 and we’d be watching the REGRESSION of the Sanchize. This guy gets worse each week and coaching staff does not to stop the bleeding! We all knew it could be a not so great season but as a fan you want to see growing pains, not shrinking pains. It is offically time to start thinking about next year and seeing what some of the younger players on the roster can do…. Oh, and Gholston? WAIVE HIM. We were getting more out of Ahmad Carroll than Vernon.

  60. Yes he is 23, but thats not my problem, its his. If he couldn’t handle the pressure, he shouldnt have applied for the draft. Sanchez deserves all the questions and doubt from the fans, because, he hasn’t shown any signs at all of improvement. The team has lost 3-4 games entirely due to his bad decisions and play. I’m surprised he can even look the other players in the eye.

  61. ah yes the key word- potential

at the begining of the season:
Packers- had the potential to make the Super Bowl
Titans- had the potential to be another powerhouse team
Cincinatti- had no pontential of doing anything
Ravens- had the potential to win the AFC North
Jets- the potential to make the wild-card spot

    all that wasted potential

  62. Excuse…a college player with 16 games coming into the nfl under a rookie coach, a poor OC and no one to talk to. Who is his mentor? Give the kid a break.

  63. now instead of this kid just working his fundamentals… and being the future he is getting ripped by the New York Media….. Had they brought in kellen Clemens in after the Buffalo massacre…. let this kid sit a few games ( until the playoff hunt was over ) then give him some starts…. NOw his confidence is shaken, fans are turning on him …
    very Frustrating….

  64. i’m not turning on him.

    I’m a fan

  65. The Offensive Coordinator must go!! We score 7!
Mark needs a teacher! Hire Charlie Weis!!!! He would make Sanchez the QB that he can be! His feet are not always set, leads his receivers too much, mech out of wack. What ever happen to RB screens, TE screens to get him into the game first! Charlie is great Coord!! Just ask brady and cassel! Same thing happen last year with bret that tells me it’s the off coord! So predictable.

  66. Why start a kid with 1 year of college experience in the #1 market in the US. You guys eat your young up there…

  67. not to mention if the jaguar lb that tripped over his own feet, you could of thrown that loss to Sanchez too….
He is getting an adult salary…. he is not in little league…. he is playing awful… and should not of been playing for this team this year … unless you gave up on the playoffs…..This season is over and he is not getting sacked like David Carr did, so they should let him play it out now……BUT MAKE NO M ISTAKE HE RUINED THE JET SEASON…. AND SECOND TO HIM WAS THE KRIS JENKINS INJURY…. YES HE IS A ROOKIE….. BUT LEARN ON THE SIDELINES….. QUITE AN AGGRAVATING SEASON…. THANK GOD MY KIDS HAVE TAKEN A LIKEN TO THE GIANTS AND DON’T HAVE TO SUFFER LIKE I DO

  68. Dammed if you do and Dammed if you don’t…lif in NY.
You all will be kissing his A@@ in a few years!!!!

Matt… I know you are joking about KC and as for Sanchez’s confidence, if this is killing him, than he will never make it.

All, relax, this team is going to be OK!!!!

  69. Matt…join your kids!!!!

  70. Stop blaming the OC. The worst thing to do is start changing offense schemes in his second year. Let him go into next year without having to learn a new playbook and instead focus on managing the game. Allow him to play with his natural intincts rather then thinking like all young QB due when they are learning a new offense.

  71. Sanchez is an idiot. There is no doubt he should be benched for at least a game to think about the stupidity of throwing strikes to the wrong color jersey continually. More than anyone one else he threw the game away today and he is not learning. He looks confused and terrified. Maybe he’ll learn but I doubt it.

  72. HOW CAN YOU BLAME THE OFFENSIVE COORDINATOR, YOU HAVE ONE OF THE WORST QBS IN THE LEAGUE PLAYING THE MOST IMPORTANT POSITION…..THE KID MIGHT BE FINE TWO YEARS FROM NOW…. NEXT YEAR IS GOING TO BE SHAKEY ……..HE HAS WEAPONS THATS THE FRUSTRATING PART………I SEEN GUYS QUESTION WHY HE THREW SO MUCH IN TH BUFFALO GAME… THEY WERE STACKING THE BOX,.,,,, WITH 9 PLAYERS IF HE CANT MAKE ACCURATE THROWS THEN HE SHOULD NOT OF BEEN OUT THERE

  73. again who should be out there??????

WHO WOULD YOU PUT OUT THERE AND WHY????

  74. kELLEN CLEMENS WOULD NOT OF HAD 16 PICKS AT THIS POINT WITH THE OFFENSE LINE AND WEAPONS…. I DON ‘T THINK CLEMENS WOULD BE A STAR IN THIS LEAGUE ,,,, CAN HE BE SERVICABLE YES….. SANCHEZ HAS NOT WON ANY GAMES FOR THE JETS WITH 300 YARDS….

  75. >>The reason why Sanchez is starting this season has nothing to do with him outplaying clemens but more to do with Ryan’s ego.

Actually, you’re wrong there. Your first comment was pretty spot on and more sensible than many of the Jets fan’s comment here lately. But the reason Sanchez got the nod is because he outplayed Clemens in the pre-season.

People seem to forget that Clemens has been here for a couple years. He was drafted as the heir apparent and he never seized the job from Penny who is a total class act and a total mediocre QB. He got lots of chances, never got it done.

Sanchez was drafted at great cost to be the future of this franchise. Yea, he asked for it and is getting paid a butt load to get it done. That doesn’t change the fact that he is both young both in age and experience, more so than just about any rookie QB you can name. He is also playing in the media capital of the world in front of the harshest press and fans in the league and on a team that has underperformed for decades.

I’m not making excuses, just stating facts. He’s now playing his senior year of college after starting only his junior year. You guys are free to rip him all you want but remember 2 things, it isn’t going to make him play better and he is the QB of this team barring injury for at least the next 4+years.

  76. so we go with KC and win 9 games…boy that gives our rookie QB experience. I guess he learns what it takes to be a middle or the road qb.

Oh and by the way we still do not make the play-offs.

  77. matt how was that weather for the Buf game? Fitzpatrick couldnt throw the ball either. you try and throw a ball in conditions like that.

and the use of all caps wont change things

  78. you might be wondering as a dolphin fan why and I commenting on a JETS board. Because as much as I hate you guys, I hate Brady more. NE needs to be stopped at all cost!!! I’m sick of them having it easy in the AFC east. I think NE success has more to do with realignment than it has to do with bellicheat. Remember we alwas had two good teams in this division every year. Some years it was the dolphins and the bills, other years the Jets and Colts, or the Dolphins and the Jet, etc. If the Colts were still in our division these last 10 years NE would not have been so successful. God I hate them!

  79. I can see this team being on the “brink” if you look at it how many games have we lost by 3 or less? in an alternate universe you split with the dolphins, beat the bills, and beat jacksonville (all thigns that will happen once rex and sanchez have a year under there belt and mark and braylon get some chemistry, not to mention our top yard getter, our top Dlineman are out which also screws up our special teams significantly) you are now all of a sudden 7-3 with losses to the pats, saints and dolphins, that’s NOT THAT BAD. This is a good team with a core, the goal is to build up this core and have trust in a direction. we’re not as good as 3-0 and we’re not as bad as 1-6 we’re somewhere in the middle, consistency comes with maturation and comfort, give it time fellas there are alot of positives and alot to look forward to.

  80. KELLEN WAS IN THERE THEY WOULD OF BEEN 6-4 ….JET COACHES SEE CLEMENS PLAY EVERY DAY AT PRACTICE,,., IF CLEMENS IS THAT TERRIBLE ……THE JET TEAM NEXT YEAR TO BE SUCCESSFUL DOES NOT NEED A PEYTON MANNING, THEY NEED A SOLID QB, THE WAY KERRY COLLINS PLAYED LAST YEAR…. YOU HAVE THE OFFIENSE LINE RUSHING ATTACK AND KRIS JENKINS BACK THE DEFENSE WILL BE A TOP FIVE DEFENSE….. YOU CANT AFFORD A QB WHO IS A SLOPPY WITH BALL AS THIS KID HAS BEEN…… IF HE WAS GETTING RUSHED EVERY PLAY THEN IT ‘S ON THE OFFENSE LINE…. PROTECTION HAS BEEN ADEQUATE FOR THE KID…….

  81. CAPSLOCK!!!!!!

  82. egos/potential/co-ordinaters/senior years etc….

we lost to a REALLY REALLY good patriots team. to a coach that knows our team as well if not better than our own coach.

oh and everyone was eating up Ryan’s ego waffles. EVERYONE!

  83. fitzpatrick couldnt throw the ball there because he was under pressure every play (bills have a crappy offensive line)….Sanchez was confused and his armed looked weak ….He probably has a avg arm, but in the meadowlands you need a solid arm……
Mark Sanchez can become a good QB ,,,,, not now though,,,, Troy Aikman was benched his rookie year…. PUt the best players on the field… Go out next year and get a solid backup if they have no faith in Clemens…

  84. Starting to understand that RR cannot coach in this league. The last 7 weeks have been a joke….one of the worst runs in Jet history since the days of Kotite. Remember what a great hc his father ended up being…this is bad!

  85. Matt…hit the caps lock…3rd row to the left and enjoy the rest of the season. Sanchez will grow while you are rooting for the Giants with your kids.

  86. well said Mike- and you are correct in my opinion

the rest can drink up their Haterade. its what fuels JETS fans.

  87. Belichek is j.o. for trying to score with randy moss 30 seconds left….. Ryan basicaly slapped his hand at midfield , i believe to let him know that he was a jackass for that move…… he kept Brady in there against the titans in 45-0 game… don’t want anybody to get hurt but if it happens in a game like that you look at this j.o. and laugh.

  88. i think Mark Sanchez will be a decent QB in 2011…. 2010 going to be shakey with some bright things and some horrible things………. hopefully he makes progress…later guys thanks for letting me rant…..

  89. Sanchez should have been benched for the 2nd quarter. Would have been a good message (Is Clemmens THAT bad???)

Benching him moving forward doesnt do anything because we want him to get more experience for next year.

Meanwhile I was a little encouraged that the team picked up some speed after the blocked punt. They started to hit hard and frankly were in the game until the 4th quarter and Sanchez started flinging it all over the place…

  90. Leading up to next week, the talk shouldn’t be that this team lost 6 of 7, but that they havent won a real game since September. That Raiders game wasnt a real game. If you think Sanchez has played bad, you dont know how bad Jamarcus Russel is. You cant really call that a win b/c Russel gives his team about a 2% chance to win. So in reality, the Jets havent won since they beat Tennesse (a game they would have lost if Tennesse hadnt fumbled 2 punt returns).

  91. mannign went 1-15 his rookie season. not saying sanchez is going to pan out, and clearly with better ball control we make a game of this and a few others we win outright. ifs ands or buts is a bad team talking and we are a bad team. i look for improvement next year. the rest of this season, is of interest only as betting propostions arise. on to hockey …

  92. they still play hockey?

  93. If the Jets think next week is going to be a cakewalk, they have another thought coming. The Panthers have a nasty offensive line with 2 good running backs, they might run over this Jet team that cant stop the run. The Panthers will be the best running game the Jets have faced all year.

  94. Rex Ryan is a great coordinator. As a Fin Fan, I wish we played that attacking scheme. The problem is that you need two shut down corners and right now we have two rookies. But a Head Coach is something totally different. You need to be calm and manage the whole team and game and not just Defense. Buddy Ryans eagle teams were some of most undiscipline teams that I seen play.

  95. Apparently nothing will make the Fat Man sit Sanchez…

  96. jeff….last 7 weeks as bad as any run in jets history?? i beg to differ.

and overall this season we have lost to the bills, fins, and jags on literally the last play of the game….and the other fins loss we were at the 12 with a chance to win despite giving up 2 kick return tds…. we are the only team to slow down the saints, and we did it in their bldg…. and today despite an awful game by our offense execpt for a few drives, we were down 10 with the ball 2 or 3 times in the 2nd half….. but just flat out lost to a much better team….

thankfully some people on this blog are smart…. and remember this is a 23 yr old kid with 1 yr starting in college…not many rookies i can think of had this much pressure on them with those credentials…. he clearly has talent and will learn….

and we might be built to win now in alot of ways….but until braylon got here we had a B reciever and a nice tight end and a bunch of stiffs….with a good running game….. not exactly adrian peterson back there guys…
our core is still cool for a few more years…. and there is youth and depth in the LB’s and DL…. and we have a shutdown corner….for ever!!

relax….jesus…..look what happend to the bengals today, look at pittsburgh…. week to week year to year this happens…. asking waaaaay to much for this team to win the AFC east or get 10 wins total in year one with a rookie qb and a rookie coach…..

hopefully finish 8-8 and see sanchez get better….

  97. “Belichek is j.o. for trying to score with randy moss 30 seconds left….. Ryan basicaly slapped his hand at midfield , i believe to let him know that he was a jackass for that move…… he kept Brady in there against the titans in 45-0 game… don’t want anybody to get hurt but if it happens in a game like that you look at this j.o. and laugh.”

I believe that’s why Rex called a timeout with five seconds left. They showed him for a good while after he used it, and he said about a half-dozen times “f**k them, f**k them”, pretty sure referring to Belichick/Pats. Although he was pretty complimentary to Belichick in the postgame.

  98. i love how people think just because peyton manning came back from a terrible rookie season, sanchez can… what a joke..

  99. Rex Cryan is a joke!!!!!!!!! Tanny is a good gm but horrible at selecting coaches…If Rex won’t be fired then at least fire Schottenheimer is hire Weiss..He would help Sanchez immensely…

  100. I think you guys are way past sitting Sanchez at this point. Your season is shot, you might as well allow him to get more reps and learn under fire like he’s been doing all season. Keeping him will be telling him that you believe in him all the way. Benching woud send the wrong message.

  101. Sanchez is going to be a great QB for the Jets.

But he should sit for a game or two. Let’s see what Clemens can do, and take some of the pressure off the rookie.

  102. agreed finfan. ughh it hurts to say i agree with a finsfan
    i feel faint

  103. I don’t know if it’s just me or is it a sign of the times in the world of bloggers and cyber HC’s,GM’s and Owners.First let me set the table so you can feel where I’m coming from.I go back to Shea with the Jets.I was BLESSED to see Broadway Joe on bad wheels he last season in the green and white.I can name the Sack exchange everyone off the top of my head right now.Now since moving south after the Marine Corps it seems to me jmho.New Yorkers whine and are quick to throw people in the garbage.Where did the GRIND go?I watch all them so called expert talking heads on SNY and not a one says”well when I played”Look at Brady yes he may be a Super Bowl champion but watch him. He’s a baby looking for calls, disrespectful to the refs and when he loses to just about anybody he’s the first to RUN off the field.Just like the “genius” Belicheik.Come on New York we’re better than this.Aren’t we?Support the team! Remember how Pat Ewing played his HEART out every night for us and how did them so called experts do him?I know most of you might not care but I myself know the grind from sports to a Recon Marine. But I don’t understand this behind a pc sports fan.

  104. Mr. Pick Six, on November 22nd, 2009 at 11:00 pm Said:
i love how people think just because peyton manning came back from a terrible rookie season, sanchez can… what a joke..

umm….pick six….. are we supposed to think that b/c sanchez has alot of interceptions that he CANT be good EVER?? dont understand your criticism / logic of mocking people who use the FACT that one of the best QB’s of all time had 28 interceptions and a bad rookie year and is now a hall of famer.

its called logic…we have a FACT that one of the best QBs ever was worse then sanchez and is now a hall of famer.

troy aikman at age 23 in his rookie yr had 9 tds and 18 picks in 11 games!! the next season he had 11 and 18 in 15 games…. think we would all take troys career for sanchez….

of course it doesnt mean sanchez WILL be good, but it means he MIGHT be good…based on the fact that alot of great QBs sucked their rookie years…..so calling the thought that he can be good despite what we have seen b/c manning did it a “joke” of a thought….is really unintelligent….

  105. Sorry Jet’s fans, but your team will never, I repeat, NEVER win a SB until they change their approach to winning.
I’m not a football genius, just a Patriot junkie basking in their success after years of promise, broken prmises and discarded HC’s and 1st round pick’s that no one else wanted.Sound familiar?
Success started with a committed owner with enough $ to play,( remember the gambling axiom, ” you can’t win with scared money.”).Then you hire proven football people iwith a record of success, not someone learning as they go. They also need a GM and coach who know good talent and the cost of good talent.
Example, Welker from Miami for a #2 and #7. Moss from Oakland for a #4, and Brady in the 6th round! What did the Jet’s pay for Edwards.???
Hiring professionals works. Keep Rexy to dump the Gatorade buck on the MVP of each game, but hire a proven winner to coach ypur team.
Thirty years of losers and losing for Pat’s fans, but the last 10 years have been sweet!

  106. The welker trade should never had happend, but because we had a new coaching staff that didn’t appreciate welkers talent, they decided to not match the pats offer. At that point NE knew our roster better then Cam Cameron…

It’s like if the jets giving up wayne chrebet. If Chrebet was playing with Brady that would be insane.

  107. Fire Rex Cryan and hire Jon Gruden or Mike Shanahan (before the Bills do)…That’s what they should have done last season…Like I said after they fired Mangini, NO MORE ROOKIE HC’S !!!!!!!!!!

  108. you have to give ryan at least 3 years before even thinking of firing him.

  109. dolphinfan- dont ever, and i mean EVER say such a disgraceful thing like that.

Brady to Chrebet… that sounds like nails on a chalkboard while sticking a 9volt batter to my tongue.

i have to wash my eyeballs with Oxyclean now

  110. dude….welker is sick in your system….with your sick QB…. would be average everywhere else…

u got moss cheap b/c at that point he was a cancer who only played when he wanted to…and admitted it…

brady u hit big on =) and when u hired belichek he wasnt exactly a proven winner….guy sucked as a HC before…. but learned for years as a coordinator and from the best in parcells…

we have an owner who will pay…

and rex paid his dues as a coordinator…and hopefully will be a good coach…

  111. that was for “hthehat” by the way….

  112. I guess Rex Cryan’s tearful speech really got the players motivated….NOT!!!!!!!!!! The moment he cried, his players lost all respect for him…At first they were shocked and touched but they’re gonna look back at that speech and have a big laugh!!!! Rex is like a fat woman going through menopause walking around with his big fat sagging boobs….

  113. How many banners did Chrebet win you?

  114. Welker was great with the dolphins in teams with no QB and little talent. He would give the Pats all kinds of problems, that’s why Belichek signed him when he had the chance. Cameron didn’t know welker as well as Belicheck did. What has made NE great is their front office, great offense scheme, playing in a weak conference and realignment.

  115. dolphinfanforlive, at least three years!!! Are you kidding!!! of course you don’t want the Jets to fire Rex Cryan….As long as he’s the coach, the Dolphins will destroy the Jets…Just like you keep defending Schottenheimer….I can’t blame you though…If the Jets had a real head coach then your team would be in trouble against them…The Jets should have NEVER gambled on yet another rookie head coach…Especially when there were great former head coaches available…….

  116. and welker has won you how many banners?

chrebet was as stand up of guy as there ever was in the NFL. there is no room in this blog for hatred toward a TJB Hall of Famer.

  117. Klecko71

Isnt it funny how lucky winners seem to be? Keep telling yourselves that and it’ll be another 40 years before you win anything. ( I bet you’re a Knicks fan too !?

  118. hthehat,

As a phin fan Chrebet as a dolphin killer (one of many). The was was a carbon copy of Welker.

knew how to find the soft spot in defenses, great hands, and had a fantastic mortor who played with a chip on his shoulders.

I always hated playing against him because he would not stop no matter what the score was.

  119. Does anybody disagree that thus far Rex Cryan has been a horrible HC and has shown zero signs of ever being even a decent one???Even his one strength (defense) has been awful as of late…Rex Cryan is in way over his head and should have never been hired…Why do you think the Ravens passed over him and went outside the organization to hire a HC??

  120. What can I say? we suck.

  121. Jetsrdone,

what great coaches are available? If they were such great coaches they would not be available.

    Gruden, won with dungeys guys

Shannon, finally one with geat qb in John Elway and great running back and cheating the salary cap.

Holgrem, hasn’t won anything in 20years and only with Farve in his prime.

To early to give up on Rex now, hopefully for the jets sake he learns to manage the whole team better and keep his pie hole shut.

  122. My comments on Chrebet were directed to chrebookie who sounds like a Brady hater.
I respected chrebet, but if he had Tom Terrific throwing to him maybe he’d have a few rings too.

  123. ha…hthehat….i do like the knicks…. thankfully i am a yankee fan though so it balances things out.

dude i aint saying you were “lucky”…. but u cant just say it was brilliance on your part to get moss that cheap….the price was down b/c he was such an ass…

and welker was a good player who is now a pro bowler partly b/c of your hall of fame qb and ur system….you cant deny that….
aint like you traded for jerry rice in his prime for a 2 and a 7 =)

and hey what we gave up for edwards might seem like nothing in a few years…. b/c we are clearly keeping him.

  124. Maybe Rex can pull a Mangini and have Henry Winkler come to practice and use the Waterboy dialoge as a motivational speech. The players and coaches already pretend to be football players, maybe he can have them pretend to be good at it for a change.

  125. Has a nickname been decided for the Jets defense yet?? Didn’t this site conduct a poll or something?? I thought that D-Rex was in the lead…Whatever happened to that poll?? I vote for Rex Cryan’s Babies!!! Rex Cryan is the traditional bully…Talks a lot of smack…picks on others..but cry’s like a little baby when he gets hit back….

  126. jetsrdone,

I am assuming you are a Pat’s fan. Do you agree with them trying to throw a bomb to Moss with 30 sec left. It’s seem like a very pitty thing to do. Yes I hate jet fans with a passion, god knows we get a couple of loudmouths on the radio here in south florida, but I just don’t see a shula or a parcells doing something like that to another team no matter how much smack the other side talked.

  127. The guys look like they are playing with no heart. They look like a downtrodden team. I wasn’t expecting a win but I was expecting them to be competitive.

I know Welker is a great receiver but the dude nearly had 200YDS of receiving!

I like Mark Sanchez but I nominate the Sanchise to be known as Mark Intersanchez for the remaining of the season.

  128. shameful, i feel nothing but embarrassment but do not feel sorry for this team in anyway

  129. Klecko71
I know what you’re trying to say, I think. But, when a team keeps guessing right, time after time,,,I mean come ooon give em some credit
They also know what talent is worth on salary, ie Lawyer Malloy, Adam Venitieri,Richard Seymour. They let these guys go when they got too expensive a nd never skipped a beat.

  130. dolphinfanforlive, all three of those guys are great coaches….You could make those excuses against any head coach that has won a championship..Like Belichick only won because of Brady…Or Parcells only won with LT or because Belichich was his defensive coordinator..Or Dungy only won because of Manning…Or Jimmy Johnson only won because of Emmit and Aikman…You could do that in all sports like Phil Jackson only won becuse of Jordan and Shag/Bryan combo..or Riley only won because of Magic/worthy/Kareem and Shag/Wayde combos…..Also, Cowher was also available but Woody wouldn’t meet with him because he was supposedly out of the country or something and Cowher said he was insulted…But you probably will say that Cowher is also no good because he only won because he had Big Ben…

  131. When your team, and HC, shut up, then you can begin to compete with a real team. On the field. False bravado = Fear.

Unfortunately for Jets fans, I don’t see that happening anytime soon.

  132. Did anyone get a good read on rex ryans lips towards the end of the game after bellichek classlessly tried to go deep to moss?

  133. dolphinfanforlive, your statement “If they were such great coaches they would not be available” also makes zero sense…I guess Bill Parcells wasn’t a great coach when the Patriots, Jets, and Cowboys got him because he was available…I could go on and on with a many more examples in all the pro sports to disprove that statement…

  134. Freakin Pats fans, cant stand em. Only reason their miserable team is any good is because that JO Belichick didnt have the stones to be in Parcells shadow in NYC. Then, they got lucky to get Brady in the draft. As if they had a clue he’s be that good. They just took a flyer on a decent starter from a top college football program for their backup spot. Of course it was the Jets who knocked Bledsoe out to start the nightmare that is the Brady era.

  135. Man, why do you guys even care so much after the last few weeks.

If you had your hopes up for this game, then that is all on you.

Don’t get me wrong, I love the Jets and was rooting like hell, but you have to have expected the worse today.

This is not our year, plain and simple. Let’s hope they can get a little momentum going into the offseason over the next couple weeks and try and unrattle our franchise QB.

I was over this 3 weeks ago because this season was over 3 weeks ago.

Still rooting though, and I will till I die.

  136. Kevin1234512346, Rex Cryan is the one person that I can’t blame Belichick for being classless against..Rex Cryan is just as classless as Belichick except that Belichick is one of the greatest coaches of all-time and Rex Cryan is not even a decent one….

  137. Listen guys..The direction of the season was set when we decided to start a rookie QB this season. Just because it worked twice last year for the Falcons and the Ravens, does not mean it was going to work again. When Sanchez is not erratic, this team does very well. However, you can see the team and coaching staff tense up when he starts throwing picks. The whole plan unravels, and the team implodes. I think Sanchez will be a great QB, but we should have started the season with Clemens. He deserved to start, and if he stumbled, Sanchez could have came in with little pressure. Rex is a young coach, and he bought into his own BS. The only Jet that has room to talk smack is Joe Namath. Everyone else needs to shut up and play football. Also, I don’t care what anyone else says, we should have brought Ray Lewis here instead of Bart Scott. I don’t care how old he is..

Everyone needs to relax….I never thought this team would do better than 8-8. They are a year or two away…But, I love the atmosphere and energy. Don’t let our years of suffering as Jets fans squash te potential we are building. Rex Ryan is a winner, I believe in him. I’m out!!!!

  138. 100% F’in pissed off…but hey when SANCHEZ BRINGS HIS INTERCEPTIONS DOWN TO ABOUT 2 PER GAME WE WILL DEF HAVE A SHOT TO WIN

  139. oh yeah Kerry rhodes better show he has some balls in the remaining season or he IS GONZOOOOOOOOO

  140. Shamik, are you serious with them just getting lucky with Brady?? Look it up and you’ll see that Belichick had his Quarterbacks coach Dick Rehbein personally work out both Brady and Tim Rattay and he recommended Brady and Belichick agreed with Rehbein’s decision..They loved Brady even before Drew Bledsoe got injured and would have replaced him the next season because they were already so high on Brady in practice/preseason etc…

  141. overall the jets are just a ridiculous team. even in the mangini regime we all knew deep down they could never get it together. between the 4-12 seasons, the upsets. the collapses, and everything that happened this season, it can all be blamed on inconsistency. we can all be honest and say the jets havent looked “forreal” in quite some time. maybe since 04 when we were a field goal away from the afc championship game. yet i will remain optimistic and watch sanchez and the offense get on the same page. there are too many weapons on this team for them to not be able to develop. the defense needs some readjustments (get rid of rhodes, lito, thomas) but overall we will see things come together eventually. i could be completely wrong, but this is just my opinion. when the jets can play consistently and dominate in consecutive games, we can all have hope and see them make it to the playoffs. until then, go jets.

  142. BTW, I’m a Jets fan, not a Pats fan……

  143. Rex Cryan is not even a good motivator…Herm Edwards was a great motivator!!!!!!

  144. play to win the fu**in game!

  145. How come nobody is getting on Bart Scott?? I loved the signing but he’s been a major bust…Was he really only good in Baltimore because of Ray Lewis?? I’m really worried about this guy…

  146. if rex ryan does not lead this “talented” team to the playoffs next year he will be fired. mark my words. woody and tanny wont put up with his bs on and off the field any longer. all they care about are psl’s anyways. we need to win and win fast. this team needs to get it together. it will be a long offseason but the draft, and the months to come should give us time to prepare and rebuild are team to playoff caliber. anyone with me?

  147. This season has been a really tough one to swallow, so much upside and then we crash and burn. But isn’t this expected as a Jets fan? Well their are definetly a couple moves we can make so turn the corner with this squad. Get rid of the GM, we could have gotten steve hutchinson but instead we got alan faneca and now hes always on his back…c’mon. Try to trade rhodes pushing the fact he’ll play better out of New York for some draft picks. Get rid of shotty asap. Draft a cornerback first round to help revis. Erik Berry may be going to high sorry guys but cb donavan warren might be a good draft choice. I say get d-line depth through free agency. Then draft o-line and possibly a safety. But knowing the Jets we’ll do none of this and be mediocre for a couple mor years….damn..

  148. Hey people. I just got in. What a joke today. 2 things stick out the most.

    1. Kerry Rhodes is Jason Sehorn
    2. Brian Schott should be history

  149. I have been a Jets fan forever. By default I have known “our” misery over the years. I usually don’t get to see the Jets games since I live in the Midwest. However, they televised the Jets/Pats here today. I could not believe how BAD the Jets played. What’s alarming is that Sanchez nor Rex have shown any positive growth in their respective positions (QB/Head Coach). The team was obviously very ill prepared for this game. They looked “flat” and disorganized. Rookie or not, Sanchez is not learning from previous D-coverages which is very disturbing. Sanchez talks a very good game but continues to do the same mistakes over and over again. Plus, from what I saw he doesn’t have the NFL arm. Likewise, Rex talks a good game but the team looks very ill prepared and unemotional (ironic). Also, after throwing his third interception Rex should have pulled Sanchez out so he gets the message. Apparently Rex will not do that. My theory is that he keeps Sanchez in because there is a possibility that Clements will be so much better that he will be proved wrong about starting a rookie QB. I always said we will be 5-11 and that our SB is the NFL draft. Now what picks do we have again?

  150. “This is not our year, plain and simple. Let’s hope they can get a little momentum going into the offseason over the next couple weeks and try and unrattle our franchise QB.”

Hahahaha…when is our year will? Season in season out its the same old story. Different coaches, different qb’s….it dont matter. Heck we even had farve for a season and that was a complete joke. The jets have no heart at this point. They should be playing whistle to whistle and the drive just isnt there. If the team dosent want it why should we. Makes me sick to my stomach to get upset over this team every week and for what? Even if we dont win at least act like you want too. The jets need to give a 100% and they arent. Its complete BS and it blows my mind.

  151. Sanchez is a JV QB, at best, at this point. He may be a top-notch NFL QB someday — but that’s not THIS year. The game is simply way too fast for him at this point.

Ainge or Kellen — I don’t care which. Rex needs to give this team the best chance to win, each and every Sunday. And, at this juncture, that simply IS NOT Sanchez.

If this is grooming him for great play in games NEXT year, I’ll tune back in NEXT year. This is THIS year. I want to get through a Sunday without putting my foot through the TV.

I wanna see some wins, I don’t care who gives them to me. Let Sanchez go grow up on his own time.

I wanna know exactly when his teammates grab him in the locker room and threaten to beat the crap out of him because HE is costing THEM a playoff check. Maybe Faneca doesn’t need that money but Eric Smith and others do. This team has got to begin policing itself.

A rookie QB is fine for 2-14 teams, it’s why they got a high pick. That’s why no one cares if the newbie QB stinks up the joint, because the entire team stinks. The FO is busy retooling the roster, so by the time the team is OK, so is the QB.

But you can’t let him learn in obscurity if you’re supposed to WIN NOW and he’s supposed to lead you there. He’ll be naked to the world — just like Mark. He’s got NO margin for error or room for growth. Stupid, just stupid.

Last summer, I wanted neither Mark nor Kellen — I wanted The Best Man. And now that is clearly NOT Mark.

  152. Kerry just imitates Scott talking a good game. Not actually performing.

The Gholston pick will haunt us for at least 2 more years, worst pick ever…yep.

Next year will be better because that is how the Jets roll good one year bad the next.

Sanchez sucks only because the stupid MF of a OC puts him in bad situations. Fire Marty’s son now and let Callahan fix this. It can be fixed.

At seasons end you cut Lito, trade Rhodes, rehab Leon, and draft either Eric Berry or Cody from Bama to be the backup for Jenkins.

Rex has a chacteristic I like, he is honest and doesn’t BS you. That trait will help change this team.

I hope that Woodhead gets a chance to be a PR or KR or we let him go somewhere else for a chance.

I think with this OC we have now that maybe 2 more wins is all we are looking at for the remainder of the season.

Someone mentioned practicing tackling all week in pads, I second that. The team should also practice caring because I don’t think that they do.

  153. I agree with most of the frustration about Sanchez not appearing to learn much from his mistakes, but just an observation – it would be helpful if in general the O Line could give him more than .3 seconds to make his read, and also if they had a single receiver on this team that played his butt off each and every play. Even when the jets receivers do make a play, they are usually blanketed by one or two defenders. It’s obvious and easy to put this all on Sanchez, and he does deserve a lot of the criticism he’s getting, but a lot of this garbage was happening last year with Favre too. Personally, I’m ready for a change in OC, and maybe even QB and Rcvr. coaches.

  154. they’ve checked out on the blow hard …… he’s lost the team …. nobody in that room believes that clown knows a thing about winning ….. cryin yes … winning in the nfl ..nope

  155. ya know whats scary .. when the jets were trying out sanchez and falling in love with his talent … who was it that was evaluating his talent and readiness? i mean the front office was gushing about how great and mature he was , how fundamentaly sound he was…… so who evaluated him .. tanny ? schotty?? please tell me it wasnt rex ….. the qb guru…

  156. For the first time, I think Kerry’s performance can be blamed, at least partially, on twitter. Last week on here we saw several comments along the lines of “Rhodes is soft, he never goes for the big hit” and you have to believe he probably received many similar messages to his twitter feed.

Yesterday, as has been my fear for a while, Rhodes started to go for the big hit, overpursue and gamble in an attempt to make that elusive big play. He hadn’t been doing that in the games prior to this and while the impact plays have eluded him, he has stuck to his assignment and made very few mistakes (even the well publicized Ginn/Lewis plays were partially attributable to Revis and Leonhard and he unofficially had just 3 missed tackles – Harris had 6 and Leonhard had 8).

Now, with the season slipping away from the Jets, he is trying too hard to find an impact play and making mistakes as a result. You have to wonder if he is desperate to help the team win or just wants to improve his stats, even if his overall performance dips as a result.

Yes, his tackling was weak yesterday, as he didn’t wrap up on a few occasions, but that is not normally the case. Has he allowed the criticism of the fans to impact his play on the field, even though for the mostpart he had at least been reliable, even if he hadn’t made big plays?

Furthermore, anyone calling for Rhodes to be cut or traded will be disappointed to learn that this would give rise to a $12m dead money cap hit that the Jets can ill afford. Even if there’s no cap next year, it’s possible that there would still be a sizeable cap hit in 2011, because under the special rules for an uncapped season there is no acceleration of signing bonuses. Nobody has officially confirmed the procedure yet, or if there’s a way around it (eg advance enough 2011 money into the uncapped year to create room for any cap hit in that year).

As with Gholston though, they may be stuck with him for at least another year. I don’t know which is better, a guy who used to be good that has seemingly regressed or a guy who may one day be good but isn’t close yet.

  157. Just wanted to say thanks to hthehat and dolphinsfanforlive for coming on here and not trolling.

Fans of other teams continue to be welcomed here as long as they join in the discussion and treat other readers with respect.

It makes a change to have some opposing fans that do this rather than just coming here to tell us that our blog sucks, insult other readers or laugh at us and call us losers, so thanks guys.

  158. Bent,

Defend Rhodes all you want but Belichick trusts tom brady, tom brady trusts wes welker and wes welker dominated and embarrassed the jets pass defense. Rhodes plays with inept with a lack of hunger and willingness to give up the body. His name “hollywood” confirms this. He will only defend his playing area sveral times in the game depending on the players around him and without Leonhard in for most of the plays he simply could not control his area. Welker, edleman, faulk you name it. Rhodes should be responsible for these players at some point during the game. He was finally exposed in one way for the type of player he really is. He inflates himself to cover his weaknesses. He wants the fans’ support but he cannot even lead the secondary properly. Last year he was out ten yards from the play and either the third or fourth player to the ball carrier after the carrier was brought down to the ground. This year his peers gave him another chance but he simply cannot lead or establish himself on the football field.

  159. I may be wrong, but I think Leonhard played the entire game. The Pats are moving the ball like that on every team in the league at the moment and were having success yesterday regardless of whether or not they looked in Rhodes’ “area” (more often than not they seemed to be attacking one-on-one matchups with guys like Strickland and Harris).

Even though Rhodes made some poor plays yesterday, the biggest problem with this defense is still an inability to get pressure without sending extra guys.

One bright spot is where we thought the biggest weakness would be (defensive line depth behind Jenkins), the likes of DeVito and Pouha continue to fill in well. Ideally, Jenkins can return next year and these guys will be rotational players rather than full time, but I do think their decision not to draft a lineman was a sensible one, especially with Pitoitua emerging too (although he was inactive yesterday).

  160. I have defended Rhiodes for the last 4 weeks especially when fans were really killing him. The fact is he played awful yesterday.

I had the discussion with Coery thru twitter which Bent touched on. I got the feeling that he was “trying” to make big hits and not wrapped up at all. I was afaraid most of the defense would start “trying” to make things happen to get scores and TO’s….. Thats not Kerry’s game. For the most part he is a sure drag down tackler that has great range. His range and tackling were just bad yesterday and probably has been in most of the season.

  161. Recent History: In 2008 you selected Vernon the Ghost while Mayo was still on the board, (2008 Defensive Rookie of the Year). We should have sent you a thank you card and a big wet one. Sitting Sanchez is just stupid, how is he going to get better riding the pine? Either he rides the pine since day 1 and stays there for the year or he plays since day 1 and stays there for the year, there are no other good choices. Odd question: Just how many chins does your HC have? I counted seven during the last time out and they were all shaking. I have a problem with any HC that doesn’t have the discipline to back away from the pastry bar, let alone run a team. Enjoy the rest of the year, you have six games left and you owe Buffalo a payback so… Remember the chant every football fan has said at one time or another: There’s always next year.

  162. Yes, Drew, I remember you saying you were concerned about this before it even happened.

He needs to focus on doing his job like he was earlier in the season and the big plays will come. They might not come to him, they might come to someone else, but the efficiency of the defense as a whole should be his primary concern, not his own numbers.

Listening to your online critics and over-pressing is not the approach I would recommend if the results are going to look like yesterday.

  163. Well the loss sucks. But going in everyone new it would be real tough to pull off the win. Can anyone stop Welker? Geez. I will still hope for a miracle to make the playoffs, although it is a stretch, but all I ask for is the Jets to finish at 9-7 or 8-8, and more importantly to see signs of improvement from the team and of course Sanchez. He is our guy right now. We have to stick by him and understand he is very young and still learining the ropes of the NFL. Remember he was only a starter for one season at USC. We all cheered on draft day when we got him. Now we need to be patient with him.

  164. Monday Morning Ramblings…….You can now look at the remaining games as an additional 2010 preseason. Sanchez has 6 games to play against 1st string defenses to get more experience. The team has been exposed and nothing is too surprising. Need depth at O line and need better play calling. I almost thing Sanchez should operate out of the gun so he does not get killed. Rhodes is overrated and has been for years. D-line is getting tired and I would expect teams to start running it down our throat more. Gholston is a bust. Cant do anyhing about it now. Only thing to do is to put him on the edge and see if he can rush the QB on occasion. Other than that write him off. I would hope Callahan is OC next year and Scotty’s time has come and gone. Look at it this way….at least we did not give him the Head Coach job

  165. hthehat said….Klecko71
I know what you’re trying to say, I think. But, when a team keeps guessing right, time after time,,,I mean come ooon give em some credit
They also know what talent is worth on salary, ie Lawyer Malloy, Adam Venitieri,Richard Seymour. They let these guys go when they got too expensive a nd never skipped a beat.

hey, it wasnt guessing on moss….he was the worlds biggest ass at that point and alot of teams passed b/c of it…thats why u got him cheap… and u guys took the chance b/c of the “structure” you had there of not letting an ass ruin the team =) he also knew he was going to a great team….

and yes ur front office has made plenty of good moves with dumping guys at the right time etc…. its a well run organization no doubt…

  166. everybody is blaming ryan and schotty ….you have the worst production at qb….sure he is a rookie but it is not productive….he should not be playing give him the clipboard, get a little more mature and physicaly better work on his fundamentals….. starting spot should be up for grabs in 2010…..you can’t have one guy cost you the playoffs like this guy did this year…. 2011 will be sanchez coming out party…

  167. I miss Jenks and Leon.

    a lot.

  168. You know this ranting and raving is gettng really old.Who in their right mind, realistically thought that the Jets were going to live upto the hype.Mark Sanchez has only played less than 20 football games in his career but yet we judge him to be a seasoned veteran. We lose our best DT and our most electric offensive weapon(LEON) and this team with a new Head coach and rookie quarterback are supposed to miraculously recover…Sanchez needs to play the remainder of the season, gain the experience, learn the system, and learn from his mistakes no matter how many their are…He is the future of this team or do we want to have another ALex Smith like in SF sit the bench making millions of dollars that could have been spent elsewhere…And the way everyone turns on this team everytime things go bad I’m glad your not my friends or family cause I would be left for dead in a gutter somewhere…This is football,a game, entertainment…GET IT!!! If your life revolves around the success of a football team and you have that much anger and resentment I have a few psychiatrists numbers you can call…Support this team… stop belittling it because if your not part of the solution your part of the problem…JET FAN FOR LIFE….

  169. things could be worse..we could still have man-gina

  170. On a side note, can anyone tell me for sure who in fact pressed the hardest to draft Gholston? I was vehemently against it, but I recall the Pats maybe putting out feelers about him. Sort of baiting us into drafting him like Sanchez was baited into throw INTs yesterday.

    Anyone know for sure?

  171. GANGGREEN,
thanks for the Dr.Phil moment but how exactly does that relate the Jets? They just suck right now and this forum provides an outlet to vent, which is healthy.

  172. James – a source told Cimini last week that it was Mangini that lobbied for him and the scouts wanted to take a cornerback. Take that with a pinch of salt though because they are probably just trying to shift the blame.

  173. I agree with what some people are saying, that this team is too fueled by emotion and not much on the game-planning and execution. It’s evident in both the head coach and the QB.

In hindsight, it would have been better to just start Clemens at the beginning of the season. Sitting a whole year does a QB a lot of good! He could have focused on developing his technique and polish without having to face the criticisms brought by the responsibility of being the starting QB. I think if Flacco and Matt Ryan did not have such solid seasons last season then we would see Sanchez benched. I guarantee you if Clemens was playing then we would be at least 6 – 4.

  174. Pats get it done over & over. Last year I thought was their greatest year: 11-5 with a backup QB WHO NEVER PLAYED 1 GAME ALSO FROM USC???? Pats know how to put average players in great situations.

It just shows what a long road our coaches have to climb vs the Pats. This year is about coaching, putting Sanchez in bad situtations & no accountability for his careless play. This is careless coaching.

Sanchez will start garbage time the rest of the year–more importantly, Rex & co needs to learn a truckload about creating good situations for this QB & team.

  175. Rhodes must go NOW!! I watched him quite a bit last night seeing where and what he does. On the last touchdown he didn’t even attempt to shed his block and allowed Maroney to skate on in. He also doesn’t know how to tackle. Throwing a shoulder into someone will not make them fall down.

Where in the hell is Calvin Pace? He has done nothing since he’s been back. Just give Gholsten the rest of the yr. and lets see if he has anything or we can use him a trade bait.

  176. Firstly, I didn’t think the defense played that poorly. If we had any offense, the game would have been 14-10 at halftime. Not a great defense effort, but not terrible.

As you’ve all said, Rhodes is embarrassing. Pace hasn’t materialized as the pass rusher that we desperately need and does Bryan Thomas EVER make a play?

I really questions Schotty. You can’t run, run, then put Sanchez in 3rd and long over and over again.

  177. Thanks Bent.

  178. Will,

Pace is getting doubled every single play because of a lack of pressure-causing defenders. He’s our only real rusher and teams know it. Gholston isn’t ready, we got to see him the first four games remember, and he most certainly isn’t trade bait. No one is going to pay him $21mil to develop and take him off our hands.

  179. Rhodes play has gone downhill since he signed that big deal.

There is no more explosion in his play. He waits for the play to come to him. He is yapping on twitter about the fans voting him to the pro-bowl, hell I want John McGray back
