Bassett,

It is quite simply really. Let Smith and Rhodes split duties with Leonhard. Rhodes cannot establish himself other than on the practice field. He is a bonehead. Lowery will continue to develop however the guidance is missing so his transition will be the most difficult of the corners. Lito can be kept but he will be replaced by Lowery or another cornerback. I never thought Revis would be so open with his words. I expected him to say nothing and keep his mouth shut until the rest of the season. The cornerbacks need help from the pass rush so drafting a defensive lineman will help.

Great need: NT, CB and MLB (with great rushing ability). However, here is the real problem. No matter what players you have the coaching staff needs to put them in the best schemes (plays) suited to their talents. Rex and his staff have never done that. Like Mangina they have tried to place players in an already existing system and it is not working (square pegs in round holes). Case in point, now Rex is talking about how "maybe" they have to "revise" what Schotty give to Sanchez! They should have done that in pre-season for goodness sake. In my opinion, Rex needs to stop his emotional appeals to his players and serve notice by kicking some of the players butts. The season is over so start benching players who do not perform. Start to clean-house.....Go Jets.

Q2. No do not draft a CB in round one because pass rush is more important and will improve the CB play.

I have never been a Lowery fan but he was growing on me this year, he had beaten out Shephard I thought. I was hoping he would be an adequate number two.

Unfortunately they used him returning kicks for some reason (Is Miller REALLY that out of shape or slow, if not why are they talking him up at CB?), and he sustained what Cimini is calling a Major Injury. Hopefully not that serious.

Strickland had flashed in the slot, but he too got hurt during the game, hopefully not seriously.

I guess Justin Miller will get a shot beginning this week and maybe Cole can do the job.

No matter what they can not play Shephard enough to effect the compensation, thats for sure.

What will improve this secondary the most is a legit pass rusher, so I am leaning toward going that route in the draft, or signing one if possible but they are expensive.

In the remaining games they need to find out if there is a diamond in the rough already on the roster, have seen enough of Thomas and Douglass, need to give serious reps to Westerman, Murrell etc.

Oh yeah, and Gholston too.

We need to be stronger at our core. What I mean is up the middle on both sides of the ball. You look at how the Ravens did it on the D side of the bal. Ngata, Lewis, Scott and Reed, Leonard. We have 60% of that formula. Jenks gets us to 80%, but Rhodes is a big ?? Getting these pieces in place allows the outer pieces of the D to be interchangeable. Having a corner like Revis is a huge plus because you can now theoretically shut down his side and the middle. Defense having some issues but much closer than offense. If you look at what the Pats did when they were winning Superbowls they were solid on the O-line, QB and TE. the major skill positions were interchangeable. Again we have a good base, but Faneca, Woody, Sanchez are not up to snuff. We need to strengthen both sides of the team up the middle and we can be a very good team....but not this year

Ed(itor)-

I thought you gave up being a fan?

I'm sorry, but can you honestly say that in February of 2009, you wanted Brett Favre to return to the Jets? I'm not knocking Brett, the guy is obviously effective, when healthy, but nobody, and I mean nobody knew what he would bring to the 2009 season back in Feb of 2009.

And someone said something about our talent vs other top teams. The Vikings are heads and shoulders above our offensive talent, thats a fact. Sidney Rice is a legit WR in this league. Percy Harvin has become a a very dangerous WR-KR threat. Besides having a moxie and veteran QB they also have the best RB in the NFL.

Just a casual observation-- he had a defense that was nasty in Baltimore. Our defense doesn't talk much-- Scott and Rhodes talk. Our defense is not nasty, outside of David Harris no one plays 'violently', especially in the secondary. Its not why they are losing, but someone talked about them not coming in fired up for the first half.
