Answers and Questions on the Clowney Incident
I’ve read the comments here and on Twitter about our treatment of yesterday’s David Clowney hacking / incident with a fan on Twitter, and I’ve come to the conclusion, that the best thing I can do here is state what the current facts are and what the remaining questions are.
The Facts (as of 1:49AM Tuesday November 24) as far as I know them:
1) Someone using David Clowney’s account sent a note telling a Jets fan AlexL___ to “kill yourself”
2) Everyone’s waiting on Twitter to confirm the statement the team has made … making a public statement about this incident will settle this story. Twitter has not done so, yet.
3) After locating David, the team has notified the press that David Clowney’s account was hacked.
4) A source outside both the Jets and Twitter with knowledge, but inability to speak for either has stated to TheJetsBlog that Twitter saw some IP address variations between users logging in and out. They matched the IP to another account, was connected with a new fake Woody Johnson account (BigWoodyJohnson) that’s already been suspended, that account followed Clowney. The source said “I can tell you that David’s account was definitely hacked.”
5) Clowney has been called into question by the press and his coach for his use of Twitter before.
Questions Yet Unanswered (and Likely to Stay That Way)
1) What additional information can they provide on the particular IP addresses? (Location, etc.)
2) When was the first recorded instance of the offending IP address hacking Clowney’s account?
3) When was the BigWoodyJohnson faux Twitter account set up?
4) Who sent the Direct Message (DM) to AlexL___? Was it the hacker?
5) Were other fans DMed?
6) Why the many hours long delay between the DM to AlexL___ and the hacker’s public tweets?
7) Is there other definite proof to help us resolve this matter?

8) WHO CARES.
The Jets have a lot bigger problems than this to be dealing with right now, and the fact this is being given so much attention after getting embarrassed by the Pats is laughable.
I’m not saying that telling a fan(or anyone for that matter) to kill themselves is right, but why does it matter? Even if Clowney did say it we do live in America and there’s this great freedom of speech thing that we came up with. Something illegal would be threatening to kill someone. Does this reflect bad on Clowney and the team? Sure, but not as bad as getting stomped by the Pats.
Why does David Clowney and Kerry Rhodes continue to TALK SMACK when they Can’t Back It Up?
SHUT UP AND PLAY!!! You’re not actors and you’re not winning. Players? Proove it!
I got a short memory.
We’re not happy, losing. Don’t wanna vote for you to go to Honolulu.
You sound like such a punk, I’d cut you even if you if your were playing up to your 5-year, $35 Million contract.
In other words, I’d rather lose with winners that win with losers.
CANCER
That said, we’ve got a lot of credible players like Revis, Fanaca, Jenkins, Jones, Leonard that should step up and stamp this crap out!
SHUT UP AND PLAY!!!!!!!!!!
And, another thought for Clowney and I’m throwing Rhodes in there too.
Ya gotta remember, that Keyshawn Johnson pulled the same crap, but he backed it up… Took the Jets within a game of the Super Bowl.
You two twitters, tweet. twat and squat when you pee. Got me? Good. Shut the hell up and say something that matters on the field.
Regular Guy Jets Fan Who Pays Your Bills!
Good Night Hollywood! Lay The Wood on Brady and Welker the way our boy, Revis did on Moss.
In fact, be Revis.
Jets Fans
dean, well said.
Dean right on. When you tackle like Rhodes you’re not a tweeter you’re a twatter. Sorry had to. Go Jets
I don’t want to see any “tweets” from these millionaires until they start winning games.
Our team has no class.
What have i learned……..
We have a rookie head coach & rookie QB.
Sanchez needs to throw the ball away and throw to a check down reciever.
Our OC needs to learn a few more vanilla plays with less pre-snap motion and safe passes to get sanchez in the grove (i.e. wr,rb, te, screens, skinny come back routes/posts, crossing patterns) Callahan needs to start getting his hands wet with these responsibilities.
Braylon will be braylon, rhodes will be rhodes and they were drafted in the 1st round/5th round respectively for a reason. Braylon is just as effective without the ball in his hands/He commands respect whether you want to admit it or not. Rhodes commands no respect and that is the reason he is being picked on.
Gholston is not all that bad as a 3-4 DE and can play the run just fine; No big plays but all in all does his job respectively. Just gets paid a lot more than he should but all in all play him @ DE and hold your point of attack.
We need another NT. 1st round. Our defense is garbage without one. And every year that passes make Jenkins older and more injury prone. Jenkins is great but organizationally its time to start looking for his replacement.
Revis is the best CB in the league. He is for real!!!!! To play the patriots year in and year out though, 3 better than average CB’s are needed.
Izzo is a waste of a special teams roster spot. Penalties can be made by anyone. But should not be made by a self proclaimed special teams extroidinare on special teams coverage.
We MISS our pro bowlers LEON, JENKINS
Basset you allude to it but bottom line is anything that comes over twitter needs to be taken with a grain of salt.
Many false twits and tweets are out there, so I would hesitate to be breaking ANY news regarding anything tweeted any time, no matter how heartfelt and real it may seem at the time. Fans need to thicken the skin if you are going to delve into this world.
It is simply an insecure method of communication and no one should be offended by anything tweeted until it is confirmed as accurate.
WOJF is right. People getting all worked up over twitter need to relax. Clowney has 6700 followers. 15 year old girls have more followers than that. Is it really a big deal what he says on there? If it wasn’t for TJB’s Twitter updates I wouldn’t know what any of these guys twitted (except Mangold, because I just love that man).
There probably will be no way to find out if this is just a cover-up by the Jets to protect David or not, though I bet he is not a Jet next year over this. Even if his account was hacked, this was an issue before with him and it is very suspiscious.
And Dean, I just don’t see how stopping players from typing out their thoughts 126 characters at a time will turn them from underachieving players to better players. They are what they are and that they choose to connect with the fans without reaching their potential are two separate issues. Mangold is a great player, Rhodes has lost his passion. Twittering or not twittering wont change it. Kerry is what he is at this point, a has-been who subconsciously has lost his edge due to success off the field.
Yeah I mean Jay Feeley, Mangold, Revis all tweet and they’re having excellent years. It’s not like you spend hours tweeting, it takes about 10 seconds to type that out.
The whole thing is weird. I cant imagine someone wanting to hack into David Clowneys twitter account. In the grand scheme of things he is a nobody on the Jets. I would think if you wanted to hack an account you would go after Kerry Rhodes or someone like that.
Still I dont really care much about it either way, but I think it shows why having twitter is not a great thing. Some of the tweets directed at the Jets players are downright nasty. I know that people are upset with them, but I don’t think that is the type of forum to go after a player. If you buy a ticket you have a right to boo them on the field. If you are a fan you have plenty of outlets to go after them such as at TJB. But to do the twitter thing is unfair to the players and is going to cause a bad situation in the future.
[...] Clowney won’t be reprimanded for the “rogue tweets.” The Jets Blog has an excellent recap of the situation. From the looks of it, there are still many questions to be answered. Tags: david [...]
