Rex Ryan Would Like to Humbly Suggest an Age-Old Time Passing Diverison to the Patriots
I love the fact that my team’s coach hates everyone on another team. It’s one of his most endearing qualities. Still, it can come across in an amusing way, as Mark Cannizzaro writes in the Post today that Coach Rex Ryan was somewhat perturbed by a long bomb throw to Moss with time ticking out against the Jets.
With 30 seconds remaining and the Patriots leading by 17 points and having thoroughly outplayed the Jets, Tom Brady, working out of a shotgun formation of all things, launched a long pass attempt to Randy Moss.
With Moss covered well by Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis, as he had been all game, the pass fell incomplete, but the damage was done.
It ticked off Rex Ryan, who during a timeout he called with five seconds remaining in the game, a Jets spokesman confirmed what could be seen by the most novice of lip readers, said to one of the officials standing near him on the sideline: “F- – - them.”
…
Asked yesterday if he felt the play call was disrespectful, Ryan, to his credit always truthful, didn’t shy away and deliver some weak, politically correct rubbish.
“Yes,” he said with no hesitation. “It was surprising. We needed to stop them anyway, so no biggie, but I was surprised and I did feel a little disrespected.”
Is it OK for me to just write “hmmm …..” ?
No?
OK then.
Hmmm …..

Meeeeoowwwwww!
on this point – i would hope that the team would follow through on the whole “you take a swipe at us, we are taking 2 at you” talk from earlier in the year
if the pats think its a good idea to go shotgun empty with 30 seconds left and up 17, either scott or harris should take it upon themselves to blitz from the blind side and destroy brady – even at the cost of hitting him late and getting a flag / fine. the fact that we allowed brady to get off a 7 step drop throw in a meaningless part of the game is unacceptable. there should be repercussions for being a total dbag
i think this shows some wrecklessness on the part of belicheat. can you imagine if brady got hurt, or moss pulled a hammy with 30 seconds left in a game that his team is up by 3 scores? i was in disbelief at the time that they were even in the game and especially that they were throwing the ball. furthermore – i know we have some coaching issues of our own, but did you see the 2 challenges by belicheat? those were borderline agregious decisions. that combined with the 4th and 2 from the colts game hopefully shows some cracks in the armour
Who cares, the Pats do this to everyone. Don’t like it, go plant Brady into the ground a la the Giants in 07.
The players rarely ever hate eachother. There’s just too much turnover year in year out. Hell, I was screaming at the TV when Bart Scott was fist-bumping Brady.
I like Ryan, but he is off base here. Stop them. Stop them. Don’t cry like a baby. You earn respect.
I would bet that Moss was begging Brady to throw him a deep one so he could say that he beat Revis, and they thought they might catch Revis sleeping because only a scumbag would throw a deep pass at that moment of the game.
I like the Rex has our team’s back, but I’d really like to hear him cursing out his own players and getting angry with them. Maybe something like, “One of the reasons they were in a position to rub it in is because my starting safety was too busy twittering this week to get himself in the film room or weight room.”
“I like Ryan, but he is off base here. Stop them. Stop them. Don’t cry like a baby. You earn respect.”
Yep. My thoughts exactly. He came in saying that he wasn’t here to kiss Belichick’s rings…and that’s going to piss the Pats off. Don’t kowtow to those scumbags, but at the same token, don’t expect any mercy from them. Next time, send someone to absolutely flatten Brady. Who cares if it’s a cheapshot, that Pats have proven they don’t care about sportsmanship (and not just to the Jets- what did Jeff Fisher ever do to Belichick).
Treat others how they treat you. Belichick has proven to have no concept of competitve ethics (he’s not a cheater- Spygate was somewhat BS- but he’s not a fan of a fair game), so, if he’s not satisified with winning them game handily and needs to rub it in, make it a pyrrhic victory.
I like Ryan because he’s aggressive within the rules and ethics of the game, at it’s most brutish nature. He likes contact, he wants his players to hit, and he’s going to enjoy it when it happens.
But there’s an understanding that the NFL has always had when a game is out of reach, and I imagine that’s what he’s speaking on.
As a fan, I can’t hate Belichick, because he does what I’d want the Jets to do if they were good enough: put foot to throat for 60 full minutes of play, laugh about it, and chalk it up in the win column.
I disagree Angel, he is a real A-hole and I hope that we can take a real hard, cheap shot at Brady next time we play. I hate the Pats more than my worst enemy. I have no idea how many of you can hate the Dolphins more than the Pats. I hope Brady tears up the other knee and never plays again. They are cheap and have no respect for the league at all. I hate them!
Jeff,
Most Jets fans hate the Phins more because we’ve been rivals with them longer. The Pats notoriously were a horrible franchise until this recent string of good seasons. Yes, they made Superbowls in the 80’s and 90’s but for the majority of their history they have been terrible.
That, coupled with the fact that we have had some epic games against the Phins and have been rivals with them forever is the reasons a lot of Jets fans hate the Phins more. Jason Taylor is more hated by me than any Patriot player. It’s not that I don’t hate the Pats, I do, but the Phins have been hated for a much longer time.
Mole:
Yes, indeed a scumbag would throw that pass that late in the game.
Not unheard of in Patriot-ville, though. Remember that Redskins game two years ago?
That’s why, on Sunday, he …
• … kept Brady on the field for an 88-yard drive six minutes into the fourth quarter despite already leading 38-0. On that 14-play drive, the Patriots went for a fourth-and-1 at the Redskins’ 7 and ordered a 35-yard bomb to Randy Moss.
• … went for a fourth-and-2 at the Redskins’ 37 on the next possession while leading 45-0. Backup QB Matt Cassel hit Jabar Gaffney with a 21-yard pass. Two plays later, Cassel scrambled for a 15-yard touchdown run to open up a 52-0 lead.
Asked why he would go for two fourth downs in a blowout, Belichick responded, “What do you want us to do, kick a field goal?”
Pressed further, he said, “It’s 38-0. It’s fourth down. We’re just out there playing.”

Lest we forget earlier this year the Pats were beating the Titans 45-0 AT HALFTIME and Brady still somehow came out throwing in the 3rd quarter.
I agree with Jeff and for the most part with Marooned…, except for what he (Marooned) wrote about spygate being BS. Belicheck is (or at the very least, may be) a cheater, because goodell destroyed the evidence. If there was nothing done that was improper, there would be no reason to destroy the supposed proof. belicheck has cemented his reputation as a scumbag and a probable cheater and the only thing that could have cleared his name was destroyed by the commish who is robert kraft’s lapdog. I am always surprised when people want to let that go. It has nothing to do with hating the pats, just simple common sense. If there is no wrong-doing, simply prove it and the story dies forever. What has been cemented is the fact that the pats have never won a SB that can be unequivocally called Clean. He tries to throw a bomb with 30 seconds left while up 17? He deserves to lose his starting QB and/or WR to injury for the rest of the year.
There’s certainly nothing surprising about the classless move. What’s so aggravating to me is how BB and NE get so much love from the press and Ryan gets killed for for crying. Belichick’s actions are generally contemptuous towards anyone and everyone and he’s somehow held up as some great American icon. The NE fans fawn over him, yet he’s so elitist and arrogant he likely wouldn’t bother to p#*s on them if they were on fire.
JEFFDOLINI,
My Jets fandom was cultivated while I went to high school in New England. Needless to say, it grew out of dislike as a lone New Yorker surrounded by Pats fans. I definitely spearhead an Anti-Boston Brigade when it’s most relevant.
But I guess I count as cruel, too. As much as I hate New England and the former “HC of the NYJ,” there’s something I respect about dominance.
I love Ryan’s trash talk and loved it even more when the Jets backed it up. Throwing deep in a game that’s out of reach qualifies as an equivalent in my eyes.
I dont understand the whole he shouldn’t have said he isn’t here to kiss belicheats rings.
I mean, i wouldn’t want my coach sitting there praising the man, saying he will bend down a kiss his feet, because belicheat is the king of the AFC EAST. He said the right thing any jet fan should want to hear.
It’s just you all drinking the media koolaid.
Rex is like all bullies…..hit him back in the nose and he starts whining. Big talker but he can’t back it up. I would rather have a quiet team that kick’s butt on Sundays. Keep winning the war of words during the week. The Jet’s will be dumping Rex by the end of next year.
over the last 2 years we have split with the pats thats good. as fans we have to notice one thing about ourselves. its our fault we are always rebuilding cause we rip the jets to much last night tirany said on wheelhouse that the jets win over the pats in game 1 one was a fluke as a jet even when you play a good game the stupied media finds a reason to put them down .an he is a jet fan or is he. brady beat buffalo the week before the jets beat him good jenkins had a real good game ryan now has woken up shottie does not fit to run this offense and i believe shottie is on his way out we will finish strong .2010 will be our year sanchez is legit farve started the same way be careful how you want to run out sanchez he did win some games and the specail teams and defense has lost 2 games when sanchez stuggled in the buffalo game he should stay with the run shootie lost that game jacksonville defense lost that one miami s team lost that one as for the pats 17 points on turnovers defense did good take away TO jets win 14/7 defense shut them out in 2nd half but turnover deep in jets territory another 7 points so rex your wrong.th again you beat yourselves this is how you analyse a game not just throw out your frustration like bedingo tierany and the rest rest of the looser media in ny to give the pats 5TURNOVERS and still be in it to the 4th qt tells me the jets are becoming a good team so rex as a fan keep up the good work I have patience sancherz when he makes a mistake looks like a women who lost her boyfriend he need to suck it ip better he should look at farve taps and see how he acted when the game was on the line when he was blowing it thats why the jets needs veteran qb to help sanchez they should just sign garcia for the rest of the year to help sanchez he very similar to sanchez and could help him make better decisions
to be fair, Belicheat got his fair share of criticism a week ago after he choked at the feet of Peyton Manning.
Next time when were donw by 2 scores with 30 seconds remaining lets get a 15 yard pentaly for late hitting the QB thats likes to score BS TD’s late in games.
The Pats will continue to pull this crap until someome punches them in the face for doing it
Stop Complaining and Do Something About It!
Talk is cheap, do something. In that situation, when a team like the Pats is obviously trying to rub it in, they should take a run at Brady. I promise, one late hit on Brady and they won’t bother trying to throw deep anymore.
That is one thing I miss about old-time football. Players were self-policing, that stuff didn’t happen. Today’s players are too concerned about making money to represent anything more then themselves.
If the team is kowtowing down to media pressure, thats their problem. The media has only one goal = to get more eyes to read/watch their stuff. Of course they’re going to blow everything out of proportion. As for the fans, we only care about one thing: Ws. Go out there and win games no matter what. No one is shelling out those highway robbery prices to go watch players “learn and develop.” No one tells their kid about the day they watched Mark Sanchez learn an important lesson about ball security. If the team want fans support, work hard and go win. Thats it, nothing more, nothing less.
another thing iv’e notice first im latino sanchez you are not here to be the latino football hero most latinos in the nfl stay away from that. that is a problem you do not need …your here to help us jet fans finnally win a SB so just concentrate on football. that miami game on Monday nightI said to myself oh no here they come. they age going to mess this kids head up’ and put more pressure on him just be the kid from cali. and be yourself and as a latino I will be proud more that way win just win plus since you started loosing they all forgotten .
JEFFDOLFINI,
Hoping that your team’s players “can take a real hard, cheap shot at Brady” during their next game and then stating that the Patriots “are cheap and have no respect for the league at all” makes you a complete hyprocrite–two wrongs don’t make a right.
Belichick is a low life. Everyone knows this. The Jets should start taking cheap shots at Brady, because in reality, the deep pass to Moss at the end of the game was a cheap, shot.
you know what justice would be the jets go on to win and go 10/6 and meet the pats in the playoffs and beat them and do the same to them in the last 10 seconds in there own house if i had 3 wishes that would be number1 number 2 let me be the DE to hit brady and no 3 hit lottery so i could be 24 hour jet fan on blog and mentally preparing for Sunday .
its just a cheap shot we all know they do crap like that but to be honest i was shocked and surprised they did that but ultimately while the ball was in the air and i saw which side it was going to….it serves them right…dont challenge revis!! hes not stupid…on another note..i hate how this was a statement game for the pats and how the defence FORCED 5 turnovers…the only turnover they forced was the strip sack all the other ones are either a reciever late or a bad throw….mind you hes a rookie….screw belicheck and his stupid pats..parcells wannabe!!!
Let’s be honest the Pats and Belicheat do all that stuff because the commissioner sucks Kraft’s…..Now what happened to: “you take a swipe at one of us, we will take a swipe a 2 of yours”. I guess that was all talk….too. If you see Brady on the shotgun with 30 seconds left after the game is pretty much in hand, then just blitz from all sides and knock the s^%$t out of Brady – penalty or not period. “I feel disrespected” is not going to do it with Bilicheat! What is maddening is all the talk and NO ACTION.
This idea of being ‘disrespected’ and fans just buying it hook, line and sinker shows how badly we are being played by Rex. The fact is on the exact same play he is complaining about, he sent an all-out blitz on Brady (7 rushers). If the Pats shouldn’t be trying to throw deep late in the game, why are the Jets sending the house on the same play? My mom always taught me that people living in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones — how can Rex get it both ways. Even more troubling though is how many fans just can’t wait to gobble down the [stuff] that Rex feeds them without even thinking about it. Rex screws up constantly, but we give him a pass and buy his malarkey without any critical thinking. Shame on us as fans.
