We Talkin’ ‘Bout Practice?
After having a great week of practice last week, Rex Ryan thinks that his QB came back strong and had a good week with his teammates.
Jets coaches and players say quarterback Mark Sanchez has looked like a different guy this week in practice.
“I think he’s had his best week of practice,” coach Rex Ryan said. “That’s what it appears to me. Nobody wants it more. He takes it personal and when he does, he puts it all out there. He is doing everything he can. Nobody in this organization prepares as hard as he does. I’m just telling you. He’s here, he’s leading, he’s studying. He is doing everything it takes. That’s what you love about him.”
Now, will that translate tomorrow against Carolina?
“I think he’s going to have a great game,” Ryan said.
Hmm .. Rex isn’t exactly batting 1.000 when it comes to predictions based on assumptions. Ironically, Rex’s DC Mike Pettine voiced some dubiousness at how a team practices and how a team plays saying this week that “the week of preparation rarely correlates to how you play.” You’ll remember that just last week, everyone was talking about what a great week of practice the team had heading into the Patriots game.

I’m surprised the story wasn’t how the defense had it’s worst week of practice, being routinely carved up by Mark Sanchez of all people.
I was joking, but actually, maybe this is a sign that the pass defense will struggle sans Rhodes.
Bent — I am generally impressed about your fund of knowledge(especially as it relates to contracts and financial issues) but…….I will be shocked if the pass defense struggles BECAUSE Rhodes will not start.
All I can say is we shall see. It will be a boost if they cope well without him, but don’t bank on it.
I think Rhodes is a decent safety. Put Jim Leonard in his body, and you’ll have an all-pro. I’d love to have a big hitter in our defensive backfield that recievers fear.
Well hopefully this good week of practice will translate into the Panthers game. Perhaps Ryan’s involvement in the offense will get Sanchez back on track.
Guys….the defense is not going to get better without Rhodes….Rhodes has underachieved which is why he was benched not because Smith is a better option.
Carolina runs the ball alot so E Smith playing this week might not be a bad thing since his talent is playing close to the line of scrimmage.
The ebst thing we can hope for is a few games of Smith and then Rhodes get his job back…..and plays the way he is supposed to.
** Just realized I will miss 2 games while I am in China since we play this Thursday night which will be China’s Friday morning…..ugh!!
Keep in mind guys, that Rhodes will still see a lot of playing time this game (in Eric Smith’s role) and can actually make more of an impact in a smaller, more motivated role.
Wow! Franchez had a great week of practice against such a “violent” defense! (sic)
Ho hum – The Jets defensive strategy in the late stages of games has been: If you take one of our [plays off], we’ll take two of yours…
Sorry, Sec 103, but I’ve been waiting two years for Kerry to step up and make some impactful plays. With his mouth and play, he reminds me of the defensive version of Braylon Edwards. Hey don’t they both have the same modeling agent?
Bitter? I’m not bitter! Who said I was bitter? :-)
I don’t know guys. I know it was pre-season but Eric Smith was our best player then. He has been our only playmaker all season. Smith lacks the coverage skills of Rhodes but had he been in on that Welker play that everyones taking about , Welker would have got the snott knocked out of him. That would have made those guys think twice about crossing the middle.
Can someone tell me outside of one play i can think of with Harris that the jets made a receiver pay for catching a ball? You guys do remeber that Elam couldn’t cover but made plays for us last season.
Let Smith do the hitting and Jimmy do the covering.
bubbybrister/shovelpass you sit in 103?
104 is where it’s at
Big game tomorrow… I think everyone will show up…. should be a good battle
