LETS GET JACKED UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
I just wish we were playing the panthers in Charlotte.
1 They are bad at home and good on the road
2 Its 3 hours from where I live so I could have went and watched the Jets beat them today in person.
Go JETS!!!!!!!!
Also check out Hutch’s article on Rhodes- some of his teammates anonymously criticize him saying he was overrated from the beginning.
I wasn’t going to re-post from last thread, but since the title of this is “wake up call” I will indulge myself:
As much as I don’t like Schottenheimer and have been calling for his head in 2010, or now, I also have been thinking about this in a different way this morning.
What we all dislike about Schottenheimer is not his ability, or his smarts. Most of us agree that he tries to get too cute, tries to outsmart himself, tries to do too much with too little. Until he came to the Jets a few years ago, his previous two jobs were under his dad. Then on Mangini’s staff, he was highly touted, offered the Miami HC job, and thought to be on his way to a HC job next year.
Point is, maybe this is his wakeup call. He is a young kid with a lot of ability to call a good gameplan — so maybe this demotion or public embarrassment is what his career needed and — like anyone else — can learn and grow from this.
Dare I say, a good six games of gameplanning and calling and I might even ok his return. Anyone with me or am I alone on the island.
From last post: WOJF said: I would be concerned that it took Rex sitting in on his meeting to get it, I mean it has been pretty obvious for quite some time that things needed to be simplified and he failed to either recognize it or stubbornly refused. In any case, I would not trust the development of this QB to him for another season.
I agree with this, but I think it also points to my claim that he is relatively very young for a coach (he just turned 36!), and his stubbornness has never been taken to task until now. What I’m saying is that maybe we give him that rope for six games, see if he is capable of learning from this. If he failed to recognize it, maybe it’s because on paper the Jets have had a pretty decent offense, statistically, and until this year he was heralded as an offensive guru. Same if he stubbornly refused to change. Let’s see if he simplifies things and breaks out the trick plays only when the time calls for it, and if e can being back some of his brains and leave his cockiness at the door.
Mel – I actually find those quotes pretty foolish by the players in question. Even if they think that’s true, they should keep their mouth shut – all comments like that will do is reduce his value if they were to trade him, which only ends up hurting the Jets. Even if you don’t rate him, the best way to help the Jets is to say something like “He is a really talented player but this scheme doesn’t seem ideally suited for him”. Am I wrong?
Bent- I am more of the mindset that you should not diss your teammate (even anonymously) in the press but your point makes sense as well. Still it’s not a given they are going to get rid of him yet- who knows maybe he’ll learn from this experience and start to work harder to fix whatever problems he’s having
the truth is not foolish …..the jets are beyond patching things up now … the leaks and cracks in the locker room make it painfully obvious they’re reeling and pointing fingers… tell me the last time THE JETS have pulled it together once it all starts going wrong …..? best thing to do is finally change the culture in this entire organization …and if that starts with hollywood … so be it …
Anyone check out this sick clip in the Times from a miked-up Stafford from last weeks game? After a gutty performance like that, his teammates would probably follow him to hell and back! Would that Sanchez take a look at this and learn a thing or two. Maybe he’ll stop making that face everytime he throws a back-breaking INT.

Yeah, I agree. I do wonder about the motivation for such comments. Exactly what do these players (assuming the quotes are accurate) gain from making these comments if it (potentially) hurts the team and their teammate? Could it be that they are out to deflect blame from themselves or covet some of the focus and attention he has been given?
Maybe they are trying to motivate him. There are still six games left in the season and they are playing to win (let’s hope), and it’s not like Rhodes won’t be on the field again. If he plays as much as Eric Smith used to that’s still quite a bit. I wouldn’t be shocked to see him get a fumble recovery or pick today, and maybe (tho doubtfully) turn his season around.
could it be that they dont wanna back up his sh-t talkin ..for him …
john m — the last time the Jets pulled it all together once it all starts going wrong? Do you remember 2002? You play to win the game. They were 2-5 and the ESPN power rankings were quoted as: “Stick a fork in them. A win would have given Jets fans some hope, but that’s gone.”
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/teams/ranking?team=nyj&year=2002
Things were only bad midseason twice since then.
you call that pulling it all together…. ??? no wonder we embrace a losers mentality..
Are you suggesting that they aren’t trying because they dislike Rhodes and want his trash talk to come up empty?
Greg – Maybe he’s more likely to get a pick if he plays Smith’s role – he won’t have any deep coverage responsibilities so he might be more in the thick of the action. I wonder though if when they bring in the extra safety if Smith will revert to his usual role and Rhodes will be back to deep coverage, rather than using both in unfamiliar situations. In fact, ideally you might prefer Smith as SS and Leonhard dropping into coverage, but surely they won’t rock the boat by completely changing the roles of three players?
thats called ..pressure’s off …. have a shred of pride..
Pulling together…what about 2006? They were all but out of the playoffs (at 6-5) and won 4 of their last 5 to sneak in.
6-5 is a winning team … no ? hardly 4-6…….
i’m suggesting guys are tired of rhodes chirping and quotes like “embaress them ” while he pulls off big hits…….
yes john m, I call a 2-5 team winning the division and winning the first playoff game 41-0 putting it all together. You don’t?
were talkin 06 now….. 02 is a good and ONLY example … to draw back on …. hardly a norm for the jets..
your right the jets have a rich history of turning around lost seasons…
Quote a leap from: “you call that pulling it all together…. ??? no wonder we embrace a losers mentality..”
to it being a good example once I explained to you what happened.
Since your question was: ” tell me the last time THE JETS have pulled it together once it all starts going wrong …..?” let’s just say I answered it for you in flying colors and put the argument to bed.
I never said they have a history of doing it, just that they did it pretty recently in one of the more dramatic fashions, which is what you asked and then denied.
no …. you pointed out one tired example to a general qoute .. which histopry will so in my favor …. arguement now in bed ….
even a broken clock is right ONCE a day… like a pom pom jet fan in 20 years..
can we show some backbone today COME ON!
I agree those quotes are not helpful to the team and probably a result of frustration lesser known guys feel about Rhodes getting all the attention, while they work harder. I’d prefer a bit more restraint of pen and tongue for the good of the team, but Rhodes can make it all go away with a great effort. Rhodes story is a sadly familiar one: success undercutting the things that created it. Or as Scott Fitzgerald said, and ultimately demonstrated…
“The victor belongs to the spoils.”
and what rhodes cares about the team ??
like all you pm pom wavers are quik to point out , when such matters as twitter hackings occur… this is thier JOB… they’re not just jets … they’re football players .. looking for thier shot to cash in ….. so ya cant have it both ways ….. either their good soliders loyal to the green or the just people trying to make a living …
the bottom line can we please get a win, good god.
john m, please stop your senseless postings.
