Although Rex Ryan didn’t think that highly of Baltimore DE Paul Kruger this summer, it was his interception that has kept the Jets in the playoff hunt.
The Ravens’ victory was a boost to the Jets’ faint playoff chances.
The Steelers fell to 6-5 and the Ravens improved to 6-5 in the AFC wild-card race. A Steeler victory would’ve put them two games ahead of the Jets (5-6).
”I don’t remember him,” Ryan joked about Kruger before quickly adding, ”No, no, he made a great play. Again, I wasn’t focused on how that would help us, if it would help us.”
Thanks to Kruger, there’s a logjam in the wild-card chase with Denver (7-4), Jacksonville (6-5), Pittsburgh (6-5), Baltimore (6-5), Miami (5-6), Houston (5-6), Tennessee (5-6) and the Jets (5-6) all fighting for the two spots.
On Sunday, the Dolphins, Steelers, Jaguars and Texans all lost, leaving the door slightly ajar for the Jets.
It’s good news for the Jets, to me, seems to be delaying the inevitable. The Jets are 1-4 in their division so the division is out of range. For the Jets to get into the playoffs, they have to have better records than the Dolphins and Jaguars since they lost to both of those teams, while the Jets have the tiebreaker against the the Texans and Titans from their victories there.
Facing the Bills and Bucs in the next two weeks the Jets could put them in good stead for the final stretch, but with the Colts and Bengals still on the menu, this is far from a certainty.

Just win and keep the conversation alive. That all you can look for at this time.

They’ll also likely have to have better records than Pittsburgh, Ravens and Denver too due to conference record. That’s five teams that hold a tie-breaker, meaning that 9-7 won’t get in. I think Denver is 10-6 or 11-5, and three of the other four teams are 9-7. 10-6 probably does get in for the Jets, but I think we’ll finish 8-8 anyway.. Fun to dream tho, for hopefully another few weeks.
Another factor for much, much later is that they actually CAN get in with the same record as Jacksonville, as long as Tennessee and/or Houston are tied too. The tie-breaker for the wild card between three or more teams is broken within the division first, so feasibly Jacksonville can be knocked out by the other teams and then we hold tie-breaker on the remaining team, Houston or Tenn.
It’s a lot to figure out with five weeks left, considering the Jets are unlikely to win the next three games and set up the dream scenarious in Indy anyway.

why not!

NO is going all the way. They are dominant on both sides of the ball, and Breed is the best QB in the game right now, hands down.
That said, Pats are down one after last night, where does that leave us?
-
ne lost yesterday. I knew they were not that good’ but most likely’ it was because Brady was still with rust ha ha ha the jets defense in week 2 did the same thing so I guess the jets win over N.E. was good .
-
bress was not that good with shotie in san diego tells you alot about our OC maybe Sanchez if with right coaching could be just as good
-
Kyle — if we win out and the Pats go 2-3, we pass them. I’d rather they beat Miami next week, to knock Miami behind us. Dolphins still play Houston, Steelers, Jax and Tenn, so they could play spoiler for us (their schedule suddenly got tougher than I thought).

Besides Thursday night’s game, a big game this weekend is Denver at KC. A rivalry game on the road that they could lose. If Denver loses that one, you could see them tumble to 9-7 as they still have road games at Indy, 12/13, and Philly, 12/27, ahead. I don’t see them losing either of their home games to KC and Oakland.
-
if jets do not make it . I will go with NO .That franchise deserves a Super Bowl. PLus I hope the jets could learn .if you look at the coach Payton, he has killer instinct ..and.is so confident .

Focusing on Sanchez’s development as a QB is much more important than a one and done playoff opportunity. Sanchez will be a very solid quarterback in several years – his numbers are realistically better than E. Manning’s in his rookie season.
Focus on in Offseason
Defensive End (julius peppers would be a great idea)
Wide Reciever (draft?)
Safety (trade Rhodes to the Raiders for a high draft pick)
Cornerback -
What conversations like this do is ….make me more sick about the 1st Buffalo loss
Just keep winning and we can keep hoping
-
Jets will be a better playoff team next year we need Jenkins .As foe Leon i don’t know if he will be the same player Green and Jones will do the running next year. Leon may go back to KO and 3rd down ,though this kid wood head had a nice catch ,maybe he could be our Wes walker.

Denver would still hold tie-breaker over us — we’d probably need 8-8 if we lose one (which is how I am approaching this), and they play KC a second time and Oakland once.
Drew — why not do this to ourselves. For one, we are approaching it somewhat healthily aware that it’s unlikely, just to keep our sanity and have a little side fun. For those that laugh at us, or say we are crazy, that’s fine. We are. Fanatics who never give up. When it ends, it ends — we won’t be any more upset than those who gave up already (based on their comments, we’ll be less angry). We stay in for the one time it works out, and we were on the ride from the beginning. And frankly, I don’t remember the times they lost as much as I remember them being 2-5 in 2002 and figuring out how they can win the division when they won a few of games in a row to get to .500. People can choose to accept the pain early in hopes to avoiding some additional pain later, but the trade-off is not feeling the amount of joy we felt in 2002 for sticking it out.

with 6 min Brady got benched I was hopping that No would run up the score to see if they like it NE

Hey man I gotta use the “one game at a time” cliche. TheJets just have to focus on winning the games, not worry about the other teams. Just win and let the chips fall where they may. It may work out, it may not. I am still there, ready to go. There is still a chance that is good in my book, anything can happen. But the question I pose is there are two games on Sunday that are a toss up. First NE and MIA. Who do we want to win. NE so Miami would be a game behind us? or Miami win to put us one game out of the division? Me persaonally we don’t have the tie breaker with Miami, I would like to bury Miami as quick as possible. The other game is I think HOU and Jax. Again it is put another team behind us or bring a team down to the same record. If Hou wins then both teams and the Jets would be 6-6 (with a Jets win on Thurs). If Jax wins Hou would fall to 5-7 a game behind us. So I am unsure do we want a lot of 6-6 teams still in it, or a 7-5 a couple of 6-6 and a couple of 5-5? What are your thoughts? Of course this is all in check but first the Jets need to win. I’d have to say I would hope for NE win to put maimi behiond us and Hou to win and bring jax at the same record. That is the way I would want it.
-
Could live with falling short this season when comparing it to last season. 8-3 with that QB and that schedule ahead of them. To crash and burn with a 1-4 finish and not make it was horrifying.
-
We never do well in those games we’re supposed to win.
-
Greg I couldn’t agree with you more. It feels so much beter sticking it out and staying with the team til the bitter end, and having the Jets pull it off than giving up half way in the season.
-
thats funny Tyrone, I missed that. I just turned it off with 6 min to go haha.
-
Andy, read my comment above — NE holds tiebreaker on us so we are 2.5 back, and Miami plays a lot of teams in the wild card chase later that we want to lose, so we want Miami behind us. Root for NE if you are thinking playoffs, root for Miami if you are not (and want to see NE lose)
-
Also, you 100% want Houston over Jax. We hold tiebreaker on Houston, so they are already behind us, Jacksonville holds tiebreak on us, so 7-5 would be very bad.
-
OK Soounds good. Lets win on Thursady!
-
Any chance Pit falls to Oakland…HAHAHA wishful thinking.
-
This week Im rooting for NE over Miami, Indy over Tenn., Oakland over Pittsburg, K.C. over Denver, Houston over Jacksonville and G.B. over Baltimore on Monday night. Oh yeah. And a Jets win over Buffalo. LOL. Of course.
-
All I know is I want revenge on the Bills this Thursday. They should not have won that first game and I will not allow them to win the second. They are playing well, so good for them, but at least we’ve already seen some of Fitzpatrick. TO is finally getting thrown to, so as always, it’ll be fun to watch what Revis can do.
-
i love to make playoffs and get a shot at Ne and beat them NO gave everybody blue prints on walker plus they have no defense .NE is on its way out . we will own the division .buf loss and jax and miami 2nd game will hurt at the end 3 games we were winning .something the jets need to work on in the off year. IT kills us every year ..everybody in afc and nfc is very beatable its not the 80s maybe we learn from NO how to destroy teams come with Keller .Edwards Cothery GReen Jones and OL we should be able to come out scoring .
-
do you guys think getting seymor when he leaves raiders will be a good idea
-
Our D can shut any team down if they play to talent. We have like 1/100 chance to do this but every team ahead of us has tough games as well.
What am I doing?!! Getting sucked back into the Jet vortex. We’re all a bunch of suckers.
-
WW85,
We all know what we are signing up for. Us against the world!
-
Even I the born contrarian/skeptic just peered at the standing for a few minutes and found it very discouraging due to conferance record tie breakers.
Was hoping 9-7 might be good enough but alas that appears unlikely when you dive deeper into the schedules.
IF the Jets manage to win Thursday we will all be big GB fans on Monday night, since BAL appears the biggest threat of the 6-5 teams.
They have an easy scedule with the only two logical losses vs. GB and reeling PIT, they need to lose them both.
Actually might be a better chance of DEN completely collapsing as they are prone to do.
Not looking good, lets just hope we see improvement the rest of the way and that the next home game v. ATL is meaningful, would take that at this point.
-
WOJF,
Agree the records aren’t in our favor. Just win out and we’re in. The teams we’re competing with don’t have easy roads either and alot of games against one another. Anything’s possible. I just keep watching Bluto’s pep talk from Animal House and realizing there’s always hope.
-
thursdays game is the most important game of the season. not only because it is the next game on the scheudle, but could potentially be the springboard for making a run at the playoffs or at least a winning record
if we win thursday, that gives us a semi-bye week (9 days) to prepare for the bucs. if we beat the bucs, we would be 7-6 and potentially in the hunt.
-
Just two days ago I posted that playoff talk was silly due to teams ahead of us and tiebreaker scenarios. Then every game fell our way.
So now I say…….still silly.
As I said then and still say now, let’s win our next three before entertaining any such talk. Should we be able to actually put together such a streak, (in spite of all the evidence that says we can’t), then, and only then, will such talk be more than a delusional pipedream.
By the way, a “pipedream” is an hallucination an opium addict experiences. Perhaps in this context “Jetsdream” would be more appropriate.
Damn it. I’ve been smoking the Jet pipe again.
We can do this!
I can feel it!
Bring on the Bills! -
I actually will root for Tenn to beat Indy — we need Tenn to tie us so they can knock out other teams that hold the tiebreaker on us, and I would like Indy to have a loss heading into our game with them (but clinch #1).
-
The playoffs are now a pipe dream in my opinion. Hype so Woody The Weasel can pocket our money and earn interest in the months he holds on to the money.
The JETS should now be playing players who are going to be the future of this team and not underperforming 1st teamers. The best thing that can happen to the JETS is lose again to the Bills.
-
Ed, always a pleasure having non-Jets fans around. Come again soon!
-
Isn’t winning nine games in a row the best thing that can happen to the Jets?
-
Watching the Pats-Saints, I was thinking that our D can do this. We stopped the Saints when we had to. We have the personnel to keep every game close.
Our offense obviously just needs to not blow games going into the 4thQ.
I know I’m a sucker but I do see a road to winning every game-even the Colts & the Bengals. DEFENSE takes over & we win.
-
I’ll take a win over the Bills and a loss by the Giants to the Cowboys, leaving both teams at 6-6 with 4 games left. I wonder if that will shut up Giants fans.

As long as we have a shot it keeps the games a lot more fun to watch…. Nothing worse than talking 2010 draft in early Dec…
Plus who knows what can happen…. if we string together a few wins. ( As I typed that I started to shake my head…telling myself why do you do this to yourself….lol )
