Game Recap: Any Road Win’s A Good Win
For the short week, most Gang Green fans wondered which Jets team would show up in Toronto to face the Bills Thursday night. Would it be the exciting, shutdown defense/controlled offense that they saw in the first three games, and on a few occasions after? Or, would it be the inexplicably bad, mistake-prone, shoot-yourself-in-the-foot Jets that fans have also seem on more than one occasion? For the first 30 minutes, it was the latter as the Jets made mistake after mistake and managed to convince the Bills they had a fighting chance. It shouldn’t have been close.
On the opening defensive series, Lito Sheppard missed a pick-6 by an inch. Ok, we can live with that. But, on the first offensive series Sanchez, experiencing a return of the happy feet, overthrew a wide open Cotchery in the end zone, by a lot. Seven points gone. On the fourth Jets’offensive series, Sanchez aired it out from his own 16, hitting Braylon Edwards perfectly in stride with no defender in the stadium—and Edwards dropped it. Did someone say this guy drops passes? Fourteen points gone. Then, on the Jets fifth offensive series, David Clowney, recently the invisible man, caught a touchdown, but reached out to break his fall with one hand and couldn’t control the ball with the other. Twenty-one points gone. If the Jets were going to win this game, it would have to be in spite of their ridiculous, undisciplined errors. They had scored sixteen and it should have been twenty-eight, ridiculous.
Luckily, the Bills proved willing but toothless.
251 yards rushing and stifling defense was too much for the Bills whose renaissance proved short-lived losing to the New Yorkers 19-13. The Jets set a new team record with nearly six hundred yards rushing against a division opponent in two games. The defense was solid, with heavy pressure on Fitzpatrick who did not manage to throw 100 yards. They ran well, with a better than 5.0 yard average on 24 attempts, but a lot of that was on one drive and two runs by Marshawn Lynch. For Kerry Rhodes fans, he looked awful on that series arm tackling, or rather not tackling. Revis and Shepard were absolutely fantastic throughout the game. TO’s birthday party will have to celebrate 3 catches for 31 almost meaningless yards. Enjoy the festivities, big fella.
The usual second half lift we have seen repeatedly this season was derailed in mid-lift by an aggravation of Sanchez’s knee injury in the third quarter. Much will be made of a head first dive for a first down. That’s right, Joe Girardi, head first, again. Rex Ryan was livid after the game. Sanchez left the game during a nice drive and Kellen Clemens was unequal to the task getting sacked on a third down pass attempt, which led to a punt. He completed a pass on the next series, from a short field, and the drive netted a field goal and a 19-10 lead, but there wasn’t much else to brag about. He had more fumbles than completions.
So, the Jets had a lead. It was the fourth quarter. Once again fans wondered: which Jets would show up? There was a lot of football left to play.
Clemens was as close to inept as possible. He couldn’t do a thing. By his third drive, Schotty had him rolling out and they were able to get one first down and use up all of the Bills time outs, but, the offense was frightful without Sanchez.
In the end, it would all be up to the defense. Two and a half minutes left. Up by six. Would this be another Jacksonville? No. Revis, the God of cornerbacks took away the Bills last hope with a pick and it was all over. TJ had a nice run in garbage time and the game finished up with a sorely needed win.
But, the question after the game was, what about Sanchez? Clearly, without him, they have no shot. Clemens may not have practiced with the first team this week, but he looked awful out there. Hardly what you’d expect from a veteran with starting experience. They’re .500, but can they do anything if Sanchez is hurt? We’ll have to find out.
Game Notes:
- Not a great night for Kerry Rhodes. This guy may need to be traded. He isn’t putting in the effort.
- Williams beat Faneca for two sacks. He gets beat more often than a rented mule. Time to draft a guard.
- We need a punter. Weatherford is a liability.
- TJ was splendid. He started slow but has come on like a lion for the past six games.
- Edwards had another drop and he was wide open. He’s talented but he has to learn the proper technique. Signing him for big money makes no sense right now. Even I know you have to catch the ball with your hands at its highest point.
- Brad Smith was fabulous on specials and on a couple of end arounds that went for good yardage. Maybe he should start at QB.
- Sean Ellis is quietly having a Pro Bowl-type season. Without Jenkins, Ellis is the unsung hero of that line.
- Keller was invisible after the first quarter. Does he have game lapses?
- Player of the game? Jay Feely. He was money.

THANK YOU GOD!!!!!!!
-
Weatherford a liability? He had one bad punt the whole game!
-
Revis, Harris, Sanchez and S. Greene all had outstanding games.
what they have in common? All traded up for by Tanny -
^^Weatherford had a couple of bad punts before punting one inside the 10. There after, he was solid.
Feely was great and has been great all season.
-
No, I love and I mean LOVE the terrible throw that hit the cameraman in the nuts… classic! Worst throw ever, best throw yet. =)
-
Every year, the Bills’ season gets officially buried in Toronto.
For every Torontonian who grew up hating the Bills, we’re revelling in this honour. Although I have to say that the fact that Jets fans weren’t out in large numbers tonight was upsetting after the strong showing by Miami fans last year, although the fact that half of Toronto owns beach houses near Miami leads to a lot of transplants.
Although it did look like Jets fans won three of the four fights I saw in the fourth quarter (psst… Toronto cops don’t like that type of thing. Some poor guy got WORKED by a pair of cops that seemed all too happy to introduce his face to the railing).
-
im gonna be right behind the jets bench a few rows up, thank God i dont have to go with the original plan of the paper bag on the head. Hopefully sanchez can play next week. there is still hope!!!
-
If Sanchez can’t start please go with Ainge. At least he has a little pocket awareness.
-
To quote Millen,”the Jets are running the crap out of the ball tonight!”
That’s about the only good thing I heard him say.
Clemens didn’t lose the game, and that was enough for me tonight.
-
Anyone who didnt notice the big improvment Sanchez has made is in denial. The answer to the KC question remains to be seen, but we all got a glimpse of what life would have been like with KC at QB
The kid got picked where he got picked for a reason. Scouts and coaches all know he has all the tools to be great. He cant do it by himself, he needs the coaches to develop properly and put him in a position to be successful.
He made one bad throw all night, was never close to being intercepted by a team that picked him 5 times, and had two TD passes just dropped
The future is bright for the kid. He plays his behind off, tries to get better and has all the tools. If he doesnt play again this year, at least we as Jet fans have seen him come back from adversity and show that he does belong out there
-
Who knows, perhaps they may open the playbook a bit if Clemens does indeed start, and perhaps the extra few days leading to next Sunday may help him get more reps with the first team and get more comfortable…
Clemens does have a good arm. All they need him to do is mix in a few pass plays into a predominant run game, and they should win in Tampa relatively easily…It may actually be better to sit Sanchez against Tampa and let him rest his knee a bit more so he can be in good shape for Atlanta, assuming the injury won’t take him out for several weeks regardless…. in which case we’ll just have to look forward to next year and a healthy Sanchez…
-
Let me add to the above and clarify that I would obviously prefer to have Sanchez start — IF he’s healthy…
and I agree that Sanchez looked good tonight and showed why he will likely be a very good QB in the coming years -
big win tonight guys…revis all i can say is WOW…another game in which he shut down an elite receiver and by the way, he should have had at least 4 picks tonight but I’ll live with the game he played…edwards man, what can i say you gotta make that catch, he did have a great touchdown but he should have had an 80 yard td. the running game was superb as usual. hears an idea by the way, shonne greene had some really good runs tonight and lets give him some more carries…now on the sanchez injury, i know he had his little PR stunt with girrardi so SLIDE!!!!!!!!!!!! he’s still messing us up even if he got that 1st down, just be safe man, you’ve got alot more football this year so don’t screw it up. i don’t wanna see clemens in there, did you see him try and throw? it was bad to watch. all in all, rex and the boys played a solid game tonight…. ONWARD TO THE PLAYOFFS BABY!!!!!!
-
We definetely need a punter and a LG, RT in the draft also depth at NT.
It was a great game by Sanchez, unfortunately he should have had 3td passes today. Hopefully against Indy.
-
For what its worth, Braylon tweeted right after the game he lost the ball in the lights. You’d still expect him to make the catch, but it’s believable. Rogers Centre is a baseball stadium with lights in a baseball configuration. I know at Land Shark they actually have to move the lights for football season.
-
dont mess with a toronto cop. anyway nice win. hope sanchez is ok. onward and upward.
-
brady, p manning, and all the great QBs go head first when they need to. It was late in the 3rd and the Jets were only up by 6 deep in their own territory. If the Jets didn’t get the first, the Bills won again get ridiculously good field position. the right call was for sanchez to go head first. there are no reasonable fans out there that want their QB to slide for it in that situation and not get the first. if sanchez did that in jersey, you can sure as hell believed a lot of people would have been upset with that (especially if the bills got a TD on that next drive).
that injury he sustained was such a freak accident it’s absurd. when a QB is going head first, we’re worried about other players hitting him and not him stubbing his kneecap on the ground.
rex ryan said he never wants sanchez to slide head first. never. that’s the one statement i wholeheartedly disagree with. when the situation is right, you gotta do it for the win.
-
If Sanchez is really hurt and out next game, we need to start either Brad Smith or Ainge. Kellen C looked awful tonight, and he wasn’t much better in the preseason, or in those miserable starts back when he was Chad’s back-up. It’s time to face facts: the Jets can’t win with KC at QB.
-
Great win, just worried about sanchez…if he can’t come back for the falcons game we are in trouble…any way we can get jeff garcia if his injury is worse than what it seems like??
But the defense played a great game, bart and harris are 2 pitbulls, they are beasts! Revis is the effin best , he’s starting to be a big playmaker when they throw to him!
Next to the bucs and keeping my fingers crossed for sanchez, he’s showing a lot of progression!
-
I didnt see the game and I have no right to say anything but KC will start next week if Sanchez cant go….
We are not putting our season in B Smiths hands when he hasnt taken a snap in years…
He could play a lot in a wildcat formation but its KC if Chez cant go.
I can only imagine how horrible he looked. Still not sure why we have 4 QB’s on the roster and not one with more than 8 starts in their career
-
Just read B Edwards twitter and he says eh lost the ball in the lights…..
I ll give the guy a break here
-
schotty doesn’t have the guts to put brad smith in at wildcat
-
Sounds like a predictable Jets v. Bills game. I had a better time at the Phish MSG show than I would have sitting at home watching the game.
-
Agreed with Feely, he’s been so good.
I looked at the standings
to make the playoffs, the jets need to win out, to have the ravens lose a conference game (they play two in pitt and oakland- we also need pitt to lose) and we still wouldnt b guaranteed to win that tiebreaker, at least 1 loss by the steelers, still don’t know how that tiebreaker would work out, two losses by the jags, and a dolphins lossheck of a lot to ask for…
-
For what’s its worth Rhodes said on his twitter that on the missed tackle he had on Lynch he was setting up Revis for an attempted strip (who apparently did try for the strip but I don’t remember the exact play)
-
When they showed the doctors looking at Sanchez on the sideline I saw what’s called an anterior draw sign, indicative of a torn ACL. This is not a good sign….
-
What fun!
D. Revis is this year’s Defensive Player of the Year.
Period.
The others in the running have great personal stats and impact. Revis’ success has created great TEAM impact. And his play has had a direct impact on much of the Team’s situation.
Guess he’s not getting that invite to T.O.’s B-day Party after all… Also liked Revis’ presser — and how pushing T.O. into whining is part of the game plan. Classic. Harsh. And honest.
Lito was a beast! He also made the play of the game. After being horribly burned by Evans who was on his way to a score, Lito somehow grabbed Evans’ shirt and dragged him down from behind. That kept Buffalo to a FG. After a bad play, a GREAT save. Lito was lights out from there on.
If Revis is the DPotY, then can we just go ahead and award TJ the team MVP again? It seems silly to wait. Although we can if we must…
What’s gotten into the SNY guys? Post Game Live has now become ‘Must See TV”! These guys are a stitch…
Was it just me, or was that ‘tackle’ on Lynch’s TD the worst play Leonhard has made all year? Came at him from a bad angle, then tried to tackle him around the shoulders. Lynch is one of the more powerful runners in the league, so tackling him high is a waste of time and energy — especially inside the 5 yd. line. Lynch just went right through Leonhard.
Best camera shot of the night — Evans, Fitzpatrick and T.O. sitting in a row on the bench, looking absolutely shell-shocked. Three Blind Mice. Evans was yelling in frustration and anger; Fitz looked vacantly at the pics from upstairs; T.O. just sat in shock, looking out at the field. I knew the game was over when I saw that shot. Total devastation. These guys just COULD NOT understand how that J-E-T-S secondary had shut them down so thoroughly.
-
The Jets held the Bills to 36 yards and just 4 1st downs in the second half…the Bills’ worst offensive 2nd half for almost 20 years. Great halftime adjustments on defense.
Great creativity in the running game…Jones, Green, T-Rich, B. Smith and Clowney all had good runs. To me, Edwards atoned for his drop with his TD catch and his great run blocking. With a full training camp, Edwards will get much better chemistry with Sanchez.
Sanchez was on his way to his best overall game. The deep seam pass to Cotchery was his best pass of the season and leading the Jets to a TD before the half was huge after all the missed opportunities.
Weatherford’s punting and Faneca’s pass blocking were the only big negatives. Here’s hoping Mark’s knee is okay because KC looked awful.
-
great to see the D play like this… with lito looking back to his early season form this D is back to elite status … revis the god shutdown corner and lito being a very very very good 2nd corner back its gunna be hard for teams to move the ball through the air… i love wat ryans been trying to do with sanchez but i dont see eye to eye on him with his anger with the no slide…. it was a 1st down saving tackle.. i understand where ryan comes from but i love sanchez effort for trying to extend for a crucial first down in deep jet territory
-
Pardon the profanity, but what f-ing channel was this on? I’m a goddamn, diehard Jets fan and I f-ing missed the entire game? What the hell?
-
Greg Sec 130 I was off…..but the passion called for a win..screw the score!!….lol…i failed again but im a t 50% if you count the pats and this game but im gonna keep going keep track of my stats!!……….do you think were going streaking?
-
I think sanchez sliding and hurting his knee might be the best thing that ever happened to our Jets. If KC knows he will be playing against Tampa next week, he will prepare all week, and come in composed, and more than capable to lead us to victory.
His arm is WAY better than Sanchez’s arm, his footwork is about as bad as Marks, and so is his pocket presence for now, but one thing is for certain, KC will not make stupid choices like Sanchez. ANd KC doesnt need some color coded bull(crap) to let him know not to throw 4 or 5 picks a game.
We dont need a Peyton Manning or Drew Brees, we just need a guy that can give the ball to Thomas Jones, throw some play action and occasionally go long just to keep the D on its toes… and most importantly.. we need a guy who wont turn the ball over.. and then our defense will handle the rest. Kellen Clemens is that guy, I hope Mark is out for at least a week so we can c what KC can do at the helm.
-
The defense played well the running game was solid Braylon dont want to hear that you lost it in the light. I know everyone is not going to be happy if kellen is starting but i will say this i know he was a starter but he played on a miserable team and ran for his life then he sat behind Favre i’ll say this hes still young let him have a full week or actually 10 days and lets see what happens
-
Two random thoughts:
1. I absolutely can’t stand that rule where you have to control the ball all the way through your roll on the ground in the end zone. Two feet down and possession of the ball should make it dead ball, TD. At that point, if you’re upright, the defender isn’t allowed to come knock the ball out because it’s a dead ball, so why is the ball still live if you happen to tumble to the ground after establishing possession and two feet? It makes no sense.
2. Kerry Rhodes is still playing like a P-word. Watch the play that Lynch broke down the sideline before the TD. Kerry is IN FRONT OF LYNCH for about 10 yards, refuses to hit him, then Revis has to come tackle Lynch from behind. Even after Revis makes the tackle, watch how hesitant Kerry is to help out on any contact? The guy looks like he’s protecting a dozen different injuries while he’s playing, but I know that’s not the case, so he just doesn’t want to get his uniform dirty. Two dying duck picks last week or not, Kerry is soft as a marshmallow, and the antithesis of what Rex’s defense is supposed to be. I really would be shocked to see him back next year, much less as a starter.
-
1. Joe B – I agree with your #1 completely, particularly since if you’re running the ball, all you have to do is break the plane of the goal line for a split second. The rules for running and passing TDs are inconsistent.
2. I’ve seen all I need to see of KC. He’s just terrible. I would rather put up with all of Sanchez’s mistakes and know the Jets at least have a chance at some sort of passing game then have to watch KC ever again.
-
JetsDoc, I saw the same thing. Possible ACL tear but you really can’t tell from the camera angle. We’ll find out afte his MRI today I’m sure.
My hope is that his patella got dislocated or that he suffered some sort of bone bruise. You can come back from that in a couple of weeks. ACL.. not so much. -
A few random thoughts from the game (nothing new here):
1. Sanchez is growing, he’s our long-term answer at QB
2. Clemmons was horrendous – he was a bad combination of scared and dear-in-the-headlights. Pocket presence? I think the pocket was scared of him. And has he shrunk? Seems very short.
3. TJ and Shonn are studs – do we re-up TJ for next season? Or does such a thing as a sign-and-trade exist in the NFL?
4. If Revis keeps this up for the next few years, could he be Canton-bound, all-time-best CB?
5. Was encouraged to see Braylon bounce back (almost literally on that goal-line play); the two that went through his hands were painful to watch.
6. Though the D played well, I think we need D-line help in the draft – we’re just not getting to the QB enough.
7. Good win. Let’s win next week and keep it going one game at a time.
-
After last night’s performance, if next year is truly an uncapped year, then the Jets should give Revis a long-term deal now and pay all that $$$ up front — like Ryan said in a presser earlier this year, they’re going to have to back up the truck to pay this guy.
I used to be one of those guys who thought KC was okay, and that he never got his shot, but after watching him in brief relief the last two weeks and having seen him in the preseason — yeeesh! If Sanchez is done this year, so is this team.
And as much as I love TJ, Greene looks about 10 times faster — gets to the hole faster, hits it harder and doesn’t go down on first contact. Love what I’ve seen.
Oh, and Cotchery — I know this is crazy, but I like him returning punts. Great, great hands, very good after “the catch” and just solid return after solid return.
-
Andrew Weiss,
You almost sound as if your disappointed with the win? Bottom line, Mark didn’t commit any turn overs, and he gave us the best chance to win the game along with the Defense. Smart Football from here on out to have a chance at a wild card. Lets hope Mark comes back next week because if he doesn’t our chance is over. Clemens is not the answer, as we all saw yesterday. I think eric should be our back up to Mark. -
Another drop, another excuse.
I think they’d start O’Connell before Smith. And Ainge before O’Connell. I’m just going by the depth chart, call me crazy. I would prefer KC to not be on the team, let alone #2, but he will probably start if Sanchez can’t go.
Having the extra three days off here helps them both in preparation for Tampa.
-
Clemens was AWFUL. Can everyone forever give up throwing his name out there for the “should be” starter?
Atrocious.
-
Bench Sanchez,
Are you serious? Did you see Kellen Clemens out there? He FELL DOWN on his first 3rd down attempt. He had as many fumbles as completions. He looks like a 5th grader playing with a bunch of high school kids.
If he has to start I’ll support him, but if he starts we are all F’d.
-
Since we’ve backed ourselves in a corner, we must win all the remaining games for a playoff chance. If Clemens is the QB, we will lose next week.
I can’t believe how scared he looked. He threw that one ball away (into the turf in front of him) when there was no one near him!! He had a couple more seconds to find an open receiver. If I am the opposing coach, I know to bring pressure and he’ll fold fast.
I now see why Mangini played Favre with half an arm rather then Clemens.
-
If Sanchez tore his ACL and is done for the season, or even if it’s just a bruise and he’s out for only one game, the Jets need to go with Ainge at QB–or O’Connell or B. Smith–anybody but K Clemmens.
To have a shot at the playoffs, we need to win out the rest of the way. With KC at QB, we’d be lucky to win one friggin game. The man doesn’t belong on the field. He’s a clipboard QB at best.
We’ve seen enough, Rex, please!
-
Edward — the ball he threw away was actually the best play he had all night. The play was set up for Woodhead to hit the middle and run in space with the WRs blocking, and Woodhead was dragged down, ending the play. No WRs were running routes to bail him out, so if Clemens waited for Woodhead to get up or a WR to realize the play busted, he would have been sacked and maybe couched up the ball on 4th down. I’m not defending Clemens as a player, he stinks, but that play you pointed out actually was the one smart thing he did, at that point in the game, up 9 with 11 mins left on your own 23. Defense had a 3-and-out right after.
-
Ben — I agree with that. I feel like if they need to rest Sanchez for one week, I can live with KC since it is Tampa Bay and Clemens probably knows the system better than anyone and, well, I don’t know, I guess I can just live with it.
But anything more than the Tampa game and the season is lost without Sanchez, so since Clemens is not in the Jets plans for 2010, there would be no point in him playing beyond the Tampa game, in fact, if we learn Sanchez is out now, I would hope Ainge or O’Connell would be elevated immediately for the Tampa game.
Again, for one game against a one win team, I can live with the de facto backup playing with 10 days to prepare with the first unit.
-
A few quick points:
(1) except for the first long gain by Lee Evans, I thought Lito Shepard played very well.
(2) If he stays healthy and stays with the Jets, Revis may be one of the team’s all-time greats. The guy is everywhere. Besides being an amazing cover guy, he is an excellent tackler.
(3) I thought Sanchez showed real improvement last night –then, as is the Jets’ way, he gets hurt. Anyway, he threw some great balls. The one to Cotchery for the long gain on 3rd and 5 was beautiful.
(4) Kerry Rhodes is awful. I don’t know how else to say it. He was no interest in tackling and can’t cover anyone. He’s a poser.
(5) Sean Ellis has had a nice year. And kudos to Marques Douglass and Mike Devito. These guys are nasty versus the run. -
Didn’t the announcers mention something about Sanchez getting fitted with a knee brace? In that case, they must have considered putting him back in, and the injury probably isn’t that bad.
-
miket
Leonhard can’t wrap up because he’s got a broken thumb that’s taped and splinted. He’s a bit of a liability in open field situations but he’s still a better tackler than Kerry Rhodes and he’s got an excuse.
-
The sideline reporter said they were going to the locker room to fit him for a brace, but yeah, they probably kept him out since it was a 9 point lead and held their breath that they didn’t need to risk it. That said, they only took x-rays under the stadium, the MRI will be today.
-
How is it possible to read something along the lines that the jets losing sanchez this year would be no big deal. This why we are hated as jet fans. And we will be fine with kellen clemens. This has to be a joke.
-
Brad Smith is not an NFL QB, he’s a special teams/trick play guy. End of story.
D-line looked awesome, except for the Marshawn drive. Constant pressure and run stuffing. Helped the D Backs all night by making Fitz throw up some creampuffs.
I’ve gone from a Kerry Rhodes fan, to wanting him benched. He is embarassing to watch. He avoids contact and is slow to the ball. I can’t believe Eric Smith is such a better option right now, it’s amazing. -
gotta hope for the best with Sanchez…it was a unique injury. Really looked like it could be just a bone bruise. Smacked the knee cap right on the turf, which is only a few inches thick overlying concrete.
At first, I was like you can’t slide there, gotta get the first. But Rex Ryan is right, it’s the principal of the matter. We don’t need that first down if he’s gonna hurt himself doing it. Always slide if you can’t make it out of bounds. simple as that. I think he’s learned his lesson.
As someone mentioned above…that seam pass line drive right to Cotchery was a great throw. Great deep ball too, he threw it real early, spotted no saftey coverage. Bad play by Braylon, at least he bounced back though.
-
John, you are insulting Revis, he may be one of the games all time greats, if he never plays another game he is already one of the teams all time greats.
I reluctantly agree Lito had a terrific game, as long as the playoffs remain a possibility he has to play which unfortunately will cost them draft position.
Ellis is having a terrific year, especially from the inside on passing downs. I actually wondered for a minute if it made sense to lock him in mcdonalds for the entire offseason and bring him back as a nose tackle, if Jenkins can not return god forbid.
-
Those of you who are saying we will be fine with Clemens know nothing about football.
Clemens has the worst pocket awareness I have ever seen. He does NOTHING better than Sanchez, Sanchez is better in every aspect of the game. Not to mention, he played excellent last night. He had a few missed throws early on, but after that he was making all the reads and throwing great balls. If not for 2 big drops by Clowney and Edwards, Sanchez would have had 200 yards and 3 TD’s at half time. You Sanchez haters need to go sit in the corner for a couple hours.
-
I am concerned Sanchez may have chronic knee issues, remember his inexplicable dislocation in college? Hope not, but fair concern.
How ironic he hurts his knee immediately after they post his stats comparing his rookie season to Joe Namaths.
Clemens will be better with ten days prep, he has always struggled early in games and rebounded once he gets his sea legs. Not a good trate for a back up QB for sure, but he will be find vs. TB.
-
JesusRevis , thank you for making sense.
-
I was worried with what I saw from Clemens but everyone needs to at least give him some slack for his first drive. No one thought Sanchez was hurt. Clemens had no time to warm up and get into the speed of the game. He hasn’t played at all this season (except one play last wknd)…I think with some time to prepare he can at least be serviceable for us. That said, Sanchez did miss a wide open Cotch, but other than that, the kid has the talent and moxie to make every play . Gotta be excited about him. His struggles this season will only pay off in years to come.
-
What are people basing this “clemens will be fine’ . Thats crap. He has shown nothing. And if anyone thinks that KC does anything better then MS THEN WE MADE A HUGE MISTAKE DRAFTING MARK SANCHEZ!
-
Either way, I think Darrelle Revis jersey’s will be a hot item this holiday season.
-
Jesus revis, I agree celemens sucks but if our running game plays like they did this week and our defense dominates most of the game we can win next week, all we need clemens to do is hand off to tj and shonn and we need him to manage the game, and I think he can do that….he sucks though, if he is starting I will be nervous the whole game…but I have faith he can manage the game next week , I don’t know about the rrest of the games but next week is very winnable for us even without sanchez.
Also, if lito keeps on playing well opposite revis we need to lock him up for next year. When he is healthy and plays like last night he compliments revis, between them both they should have had 6 picks!!! And as far as rhodes, he’s a goner, eric smith has won the starting job for the rest of the season in my opinion! Get rid of rhodes for draft picks and pick up mays or berry in the first round!
-
And with the rest of the the picks gt depth on the d line and o line!
-
What did I tell all you guys about Braylon Edwards? Everyone just thought it was because of my beloved Browns and that is why I had such a negative attitude toward the man who is now known as “Bright Lights Edwards”. I said he was a cancer!
How many games did you win before he got there? How many games since? How many drops has he made? How many excuses has he made? He wanted Bright Lights and a Big City to get an acting or modeling career started so what does he do? Makes excuses about the bright lights! Next he will complain about how he is being unfairly criticized by the fans and media.
With Jason Trusnik we got an awesome defensive player with a huge heart in exchange for cancer. And Stuckey…our offensive coordinator totally sucks so the jury is still out on Stuckey. He hasn’t done much but no one else has either. I don’t think the players are responsible for poor game plans and poor play calling.
When a ball hits a guy in the facemask or hands then by God he better catch it! Edwards needs to find different employment. He does not deserve to play in the NFL.

m eazii,
I wish you were right, but the fact is that you can’t have a bum at the QB position and still win. At some point in that game, Clemens would have to make a play. And he looks worse than he did his rookie season right now. I couldn’t believe it. I’ve been down on him for a while, but I at least expected him to be competent at his job, which he isn’t. If he starts the rest of the season, we might as well start out mock drafts.
-
J, have fun with Trusnik…I’ll keep enjoying having an elite WR. It does help to have a decent team around him. Who’s gonna be your head coach next year?
-
Sanchez has a strained PCL. he’ll be alright if he can tolerate the pain.
-
jfromytown,
A cancer? By all accounts, since he’s gotten here, Braylon has been working hard and being a good citizen. Maybe the losing culture in Cleveland finally got to him after 4 1/2 seasons. I don’t know, but what I do know is that he definitely isn’t a cancer. The only game where you can put partial blame of a loss on him was the Jax game. He’s exactly what we needed and we gave up a backup LB (sorry, but Trusnik would be a backup on your squad too if Jackson and Barton weren’t injured) a 3rd WR (at best) and two mid-round picks. All that for a game-changing beast receiver? I’ll take that.
I’m willing to give him a pass on the lights, the Jets haven’t played in a dome since he’s been with the team so he may have had a tough time adjusting. He also caught a ball and bulled his way into the endzone (again). I’ll take the good with the bad in regards to Braylon, because IMO, the good far outweighs the bad.
-
Re: Sanchez with a strained PCL…
-
Good win. We did enough so that our missed TD’s didn’t kill us like they would have against a better team.
Like everyone, I can’t believe how awful Clemens was. I wanted him to get his shot last year, but he hasn’t developed at all. I can see why Ryan’s decision to go with a rookie this year was a no-brainer. I know Rex is trying to boost his confidence by giving him a game ball, but let’s get real. He was barely able to take a snap and if we didn’t recover that fumble, the Bills would’ve had an easy TD. I know Rex won’t do it, but if Sanchez can’t go I’d rather see Ainge.
Lastly, I was shocked when Rex said (in post-game remarks) that he didn’t care about getting the first down and Mark should have slid. I wanted Rex over Cowher and still support him (even through crying spells), but that was a crucial first down, this is football and QBs don’t wear skirts. That was the wrong message to send to a team that he wants to be the toughest. Beat the Bucs and keep it real.
-
Brendan, yea your right but maybe with 9 days to prepare to start the game next week he will be able to make those plays he has too, I mean it is tampa bay, I doubt he will have to make a lot of plays, im sure our running game can take care of that, but like I saiid afteer tampa bay we need the franchise to be under center to have any chance to win….im hoping sanchez is fine, starz where did u get this info from? Can anyone confirm?
-
It’s not a questions of clemens being awful, but he was told not to make a mistake so he looked worse than he was. But don’t forget that huge 3rd down conversion he got to J-co which got the field goal to put us up. And its unreasonable to think he can come off the bench and be a star. All reports say Sanchez had a sprained PCL which means he can play if he can handle the pain. But how can you feel better with brad smith or clemens?
-
I posted the link…espn.
-
thanx starz!
well if he can play i say he starts, he does have 9 days to heal up a little, but they should try to score a lot the first half to sit him out the second half.
-
Clemens was sacked 3? 4 times? He fumbled once, hes terrible, this is how hes always been; no pocket presence, no awareness, and his footwork is awful.
-
reality jet fan and JesusRevis — you are saying: “we are hated as jets fans” and “those of you who are saying we will be fine with Clemens…” and “these people” when it was one troll who said that we are better off without Sanchez. And his name is “Bench Sanchez” for crying out loud.
Every other comment was about how he stinks, or that we’d prefer Ainge, or at BEST that we can maybe win with KC against TB if Sanchez is out, but if more than one week it’s over.
Not a single other comment said we are ok w/o MS. No need to lump an entire fanbase, and this group of posters, over one troll’s comment.
-
Greg,
I said “those of you”, so if you didnt say it, then im not talking about you. But I came into work this morning and went onto the jets blog and I skimmed through this thread and saw that is was said. I wasnt lumping you or anyone else into those comments. Plus, some people here are saying we would be fine with Clemens in the Bucs game, and I say that is false because he is THAT bad.
-
And I have no idea what this means;
reality jet fan and JesusRevis — you are saying: “we are hated as jets fans
-
One person said we are fine with KC, the rest have bashed him. I never said you were talking about me. But when only one troll makes a stupid comment, you don’t need to call out the fanbase like reality did.
And besides, if Sanchez is hurting too much to play, Clemens will be starting next week. Can we win one game with Clemens against Tampa with 10 days to prepare? I think so. Do I want to see him play? NO chance. I’d rather see Ainge. But he will be the starter, and there is a chance he reads this blog. Didn’t you get upset that we were not supportive of Kerry Rhodes?
-
If you skimmed the blog and thought more than one person said it, fine, that makes sense. I assumed you did that, and that was why I was pointing out that it was just the one person.
-
Clemens was a little scary out there last night, but he also had a very good throw to Cotchery on a key 3rd and long to get the Jets into FG range.
Clemens pocket presence was poor, no doubt, and two fumbles in a quarter and a half is a concern. But let’s not pretend that Sanchez is a great QB right now. He’s thrown 17 picks and has 10 fumbles, barely has a 50% completion percentage. I’d like him to be healthy and playing next week, but I don’t think Clemens hurts our chances of winning too much. Especially next week against a poor TB team, the key for the QB is to protect the football, and with the way Sanchez has turned the ball over this season I don’t think our chances are much worse with Clemens there.
-
kerry rhodes…he’s a good player but after a big game last week,he was invisible…but I’m not giving up on him yet. he’s a good playmaker and he’s better than half of the other safeties in the game but rex has to see if he can really strive with the jets,if not you gotta draft a safety or trade for one…leonard holds the other safety spot but he was brought in so rhodes could just play center and make some plays. don’t give up on him yet guys give a bit more time.
-
Jesus Revis, that 1 person was me, i think we will be fine with clemens next week and only next week, its the tampa bay buccaneers for petes sake!!!! they are HORRRRIBLE!!! A 1 AN 10 RECORD PROVES THAT!
now the fact that i think we will be fine with clemens next week is just my OPINION and my JUDGEMENT which im hoping is correct come next sunday if clemens does start! so jesus revis for you to say that my opinion is FALSE is incorrect because i am just stating my opinion which i know is not a fact until next sunday comes and the game is over…but point blank is that next week is very winnable for the jets with clemens under center, our running game and dominant defense will win it for us, IF THEY PLAY LIKE THEY HAVE BEEN THE LAST 2 GAMES! again, this is just my opinion
-
I’m not saying your opinion is false, I just dont agree with it. I have seen enough of Kellen Clemens to know that he is not good enough to play QB in the NFL, and having him on the field will be a huge liability.
-
Clemens looked like he was not prepared to play, and that is a bad thing for a back-up QB. You always hear the (good) back-ups saying that they prepare as though they are going to be the starter. Clemens looked like he was enjoying watching the game and had not planned on ever playing. Not exactly what you want from your back-up. That being said, the completion he had was a nice pass and if he has to start next week, he should look a lot better than he did last night. Sanchez is the man and I hope he is better real soon.
-
Did anyone notice on the Lynch touchdown run, Rhodes was behind the line of scrimmage and had a chance to catch Lynch from behind before he got out of the backfield, but he just quit on the play? That was dissapointing.
-
we actually haven’t seen what he can do with an offensive line we have now…now don’t get me wrong, i do agree with most that he isn’t all that good and is a back up qb at best, that is his role and will never be a starting qb, but all we have seen from him is pre season and a couple of games he had with a horrific offensive line 2 years ago, i am sure with plenty of reps this week with the ones he can manage the game against the bucs and not make any mistakes to lose it for us, that is fair to say because that is all we need him to do…c’mon JR, i know you know football pretty good because i always read your posts and they always make sense…our running game is in sync and our defense is playing outstanding, you can agree with me on that, and im sure you can agree that the bucs are a horrible 1-10 team that our running game and defense should dominate, and if they do dominate i think you would have to agree with me also that we will come out victorious even with clemens under center…i want sanchez to be ready to play against the falcons, that is a huge game for us IF we win our next game
-
I think the source of Clemens’ problems is lousy footwork, which leads to falling down, bobbling snaps, etc. If he could fix that, he would be a decent NFL QB.
-
We clearly need Sanchez back for the stretch run, but I don’t think it’s going to be the apocalypse if we start Clemens against Tampa and give Sanchez another week to heal.
-
Brendan, how many games did you play and win before Bright Lights Edwards and how many have you played and lost since? Simple question and still not answered. He may not be a cancer but his presence has hurt the Jets performance.
Why does it hurt? Because this clearly is a 1st rounder who has lost his mojo and at least needs to be sat down on the bench for a while but there ain’t a coach who has the stones to do it because of his salary. They cannot justify to management why they are paying him millions to sit on the bench. The other players around him see this and know the coaches are not doing everything they can to win despite what is being said to the media.
Why didn’t they sit him in Cleveland? Because they wanted a team to make a trade of any kind for him. They did not want to destroy his trade value. Braylon did that for himself. We already took the salary cap hit for the year. It’s better to try to get something for the guy than to let him just walk away as a free agent.
I have never claimed that Edwards was the sole reason why we were and are losing in Cleveland. The Browns lost games before and lost games since. His presence here was nothing but dropped balls and excuses. Our problems are bigger than Edwards alone could have solved. We won 4 games last year and that was despite all his drops. He had one good game last year…one! MNF against the Giants he looked like the Braylon of old. Preseason of 08 before he had his foot spiked by the Killer, he made a one handed grab in the end zone that made me proud to be a Browns fan. After the foot spike it’s like he had WD40 applied to his hands before every game.
His lack of concentration on the field has continued even though he is no longer on a losing football team. The Jets were certainly not losers before his arrival but since? He has carried the bright lights curse to Jets land. Too bad HBO ended the Sopranos. Maybe Tony could have had the guy whacked for dropping that pass last night because of the “bright lights”. Excuses, excuses, excuses.
My 5 year old cried when I wouldn’t allow him to wear his Edwards jersey anymore until I explained that we traded him away because he couldn’t catch the ball anymore. He threw it in the garbage. Even my 5 year old understands why Cleveland traded Bright Lights for two unknowns.
-
jfromytown,
Ok, here’s your answer. The Jets are 3-5 since he has been here. Since he has come to the Jets their YPG is 166 (vs. 130.5 before he got here). He has opened up the running game. He is also a huge target that takes double teams away from Cotchery and Keller.
And the reason we went from 3-1 Pre-Braylon to 3-5 with Braylon is not any fault of his. Maybe, and this is just a WILD theory I’m gonig to throw out there, maybe we haven’t been as good because A- our All-Pro NT is on IR, B- our home-run threat and most explosive offensive player is on IT, C- our rookie QB played like, well, a rookie and D- we’ve failed AS A TEAM.
Are you out of your mind saying Braylon is the reason we’ve lost games? Jax game aside, you can’t say that. Defense on MNF, whole team against Buffalo, Sanchez in NE, Special teams at home vs Miami. Get a grip man. We know he drops passes, he also does things like catch a ball on the 7 yard line and force his way, emphatically, into the end zone. Have fun with a depth LB, a slot receiver and 2 mid round picks. I’ll take the elite #1 receiver.
-
“I’ll take the elite #1 receiver.”…every single time.
-
Great thing our young, 22 year old rooking QB has two bad knees– sick.
Rhodes attempted ‘tackle’ on the long run by Lynch would have him benched on a high school team.
-
Anyone else notice that after every play he is involved in or jobs up to, Rhodes adjusts his socks, knee pads, and makes sure his shirt is tucked in properly?
-
NorCal – I saw the Rhodes give up, as well as his pull-up on the play he should have creamed the guy. It’s like he’s not trying out there, given up, or just doesn’t want to hurt his friends or something. Hopefully he’ll play OK the rest of the way, first for us, and second so we can get something of value for him in the offseason, ’cause there’s no way he’s on the team next year.
-
They chose me,
That’s nitpicking, I’m sure if we watched the game he is one of many players who do that. It get uncomfortable if your jersey bunches up and having your pads aligned makes running and moving smoother. I think this is an attempt to make something out of nothing.
-
If the Jets start Clemens against the Bucs then just kiss it good bye….Start Ainge Pleeeeaaassse! Clemens looked like crap….Is Garcia still available?

Yes. Brad Smith at quarterback! Or, how about wildcat where Brad actually THROWS the ball. Its amazing that brad never is asked to throw the ball even with all of his experience!!
