Audible: Are You Confident in Clemens?

Jets Bills Football

While signs point to Mark Sanchez playing on December 13th at Tampa Bay, there has to still be a concern about whether or not the rookie can play. As Bart Scott said a few weeks ago, this team’s hopes are on “life support” … with the Jets trying to win out the rest of the way, can you rely on Kellen Clemens should the need arise?

With the defense firing on all cylinders, a solid running game, and a good complement of receivers, what do you think about Kellen Clemens should he need to start?Do you trust him?  Did he sufficiently scare you last night, or calm your nerves by not turning the ball over?

Some postgame analysis from Custer, Schein and Lucas.

  1. Are you kidding me? He looked totally awful. I’d rather have Sanchez out there on a crutch than Clemens out there healthy.

  2. I’m convinced Sanchez will play if it’s a matter of pain tolerance.

I was nervous with Clemens in, albeit no more nervous than I have been at certain points this year when Sanchez drops back. I was quite pleased with Mark’s performance yesterday, though.

  3. Tell you the truth, I’d rather see Ainge start over Clemens.

  4. I’d rather see O’Connell start over Ainge.

  5. He was so terrible last night that he couldnt even get passes out of his hands. Taking that sack and fumbling inside the jets 10 proved this guy is simply awful. We will lose to tampa if this bum starts.

  6. Put me on the field before Clemens.

  7. Back in July, I believed in the concept of starting Clemens for the first 8 games, and let Sanchez take over at the bye. Of course I realize, that Clemens got thrust into the game under difficult circumstances but I tought he was scary bad. I think the smart long term approach is to rest Sanchez against the Bucs, but I think you risk the season playing Clemens

  8. I wouldn’t feel all that confident with KC, but he’s not nearly as bad as most of you seem to think.

    IMO

  9. Clemens is who I thought he was: a scrub. He will never start in this league and he looked thoroughly incompetent last night. He didn’t turn the ball over, but so what? He can’t complete 50% of his passes and he loves to step into sacks.

  10. Brad Smith.

  11. They can start Clemens, but run the ball and use the wildcat to hide his flaws.

  12. Brad, Clemens completed 50% of his passes last night. 1-2 for 14 yards

  13. If Sanchez cant play Sunday, how about starting Brad Smith? The Jets could run the ball 40-50 times with Jones and Greene, and then mix in some option/wild cat plays with Smith. Just for some sort of balance, they could have him thrown 5-8 passes. It sounds crazy, but it could work.

  14. no but Hell no he is a Bum !

  15. i dont trust him but i think we can win next week against the bucs if he does start…if he does start i doubt he will throw more than 10 times, our running game will score alot

but like someone posted, if its a pain issue the sanchize will start

  16. I had a little confidence in him until I saw last nights performance. They were calling the safest plays possible and he still manged to fumble the ball inside our own 5yd line almost costing us the game. Hopefully Sanchez can tough it up and play

  17. i’m fine giving clemens a shot. after all, he’s got the pope’s blessing going for him, which is nice.

“So we finish the eighteenth and he’s gonna stiff me. And I say, “Hey, Lama, hey, how about a little something, you know, for the effort, you know.” And he says, “Oh, uh, there won’t be any money, but when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.” So I got that goin’ for me, which is nice. ” – Carl Spackler

  18. Clemens didn’t turn the ball over because a teammate alertly jumped on the ball he fumbled. He scared the living daylights out of me. I have very little confidence in Clemens being the starting QB. I realize he is not as bad as he looked last night, after getting thrust into the game, but still. No trust in him. I agree with those who said to start Ainge or O’Connell. I definitely think Ainge is ahead of Clemens.

  19. Sackdance99 was/has been right all along…Kellen Clemens is not a QB for the NFL.

DAZ – Nice post by the way. Gotta love CaddyShack… “Its in the hole! “(Tiger Woods after foreplay)

  20. That was scary yesterday when every time Clemens dropped back to pass. I realize that he probably didn’t get many reps with the first team in practice, but still.
I wonder if it would make sense to start O’Connell against the bucs, just to see how he plays. One good thing about that is that the bucs would have no tape of him to study. I think Clemens would beat the bucs, but I doubt he’d beat anyone else unless getting the first team reps/prep in practice makes a world of difference.

  21. whoever the QB is, he should not attempt more than 15 passes.

there is a reason TB is 1-10. i dont see them scoring more than a few FGs on our D. if we let this team in the endzone, i will be very disappointed.

i actually like the idea of having brad smith back there. he knows the offense well enough to hand the ball off to our backs. he wouldnt have to take every snap for the wildcat, we could put him under center. he certainly has the ability to throw a handful of passes, to keep the D honest

  22. ML,

I’m with you. I have a feeling Ainge would surprise alot of fans. They drafted him but, they treat him like dirt. As a result, most fans think nothing of him. One of these days, he is going to earn some respect. I hope it is with this team because, this team is loaded with talent.

  23. i completely disagree.

last nite was a brutal spot. no reps for weeks, instructions not to throw unless its wide open and only throwing on 3rd & longs. a shock there were botched snaps and procedure calls… all the while they are trying to run the clock out?

if he plays he’ll be fine. he’s not elway, obviously, but clemens could absolutely help beat tampa and/or atlanta. do people think that clemens is incappable of doing what’s needed right now & sanchez is doing… some mobility out of the pocket, ability to challenge downfield, +50% completions, hand-off, limit turnovers. i mean please, really.

if anything an opportunity against tampa could really help trade value after tehe season.

  24. exactly, steviek

I think you and I are alone on this one, but I agree with your assessment.

If Clemens would’ve started from day one, (which Im glad he didn’t), his stat line would probably not be worse than Sanchez, probably less int’s to be honest.

I’m glad Mark’s our guy. I just don’t think KC is a can of ham – given some PT he’d be adequate on a team that runs this well and plays D.

    DM in CO

  25. Elin (Tiger Wood’s wife) – “Why can’t you just be happy with a hole in one (woman)?

    lol!

  26. Ainge first half,if he sucks, o connell. Let them both work with the ones.

  27. Do I really need to comment? KC had 1 completion, 1 fumble and 3 sacks. That’s objectively pretty awful. And, I know he was thrust into the game unexpectedly…but isn’t that like every back up QB in the NFL? He was playing the Bills with a lead, not the Ravens or Steelers. There was not even a hint of competence in his performance. His happy feet made Sanchez look like Big Ben in comparison. I have no confidence that he can beat the Bucs on the road. None, zilch.

As for Brad Smith, no way. He’ll face 9 men in the box defenses. Nobody will think that he’ll pass. I’d go for Ainge, O’Connell or Matt Cavanaugh before I resorted to Smith or Clemens.

  28. I see cojetfan and steviek’s points and in theory they make perfect sense. But man, he just looked so bad out there. He looked nervous, tentative and uncomfortable. There have been tons of times in the NFL when a backup comes in on a second’s notice and plays at least adequately. KC didn’t do that last night, not by a long shot. I guess there have also been many times where the backup comes in and plays terrible, but this guy isn’t just any backup – he was our starter for half a season, has battled for the starter’s job many times and is in his fourth season with the same OC. I just can’t find any argument for him not playing better. I guess you could say he just had a bad game (everyone does) but it seems like he wastes every opportunity he gets.

  29. the ONLY chance the jets had of losing last night was if KC came in and turned the ball over.

In the span of, what, 6 plays? he got hit from behind TWICE and fumbled once INSIDE THE 10!!!! i mean, how is ball control not the ONLY thing on his mind last night?

i’m sorry — good arm or bad arm, hes terrible. he wont be back next year, and he better no f’n start next Sunday.

Gimme a lil Ainge-to-Clowney action before KC buckles on the chin strap…

  30. I have little confidence in Clemens. I have even less confidence in the seemingly popular opinion that Tampa Bay doesn’t pose enough of a threat to warrant playing the first string QB if he’s at all able to play. Tampa Bay is as much a playoff game as any left on the schedule. Anything short of the Jets’ best effort could easily result in a loss and the evaporation of whatever tiny sliver of post-season hope the team’s still clinging to.

  31. I thought Clemens was the better choice for starter prior to the last couple preseason games but he seems to have regressed. I expected him to look better than he did against Buffalo.

  32. I wonder what the CS sees in Clemens that he is still the 2nd string QB? Is it just his experience in the system? If I am not mistaken, he is the 2, O’Connell 3 and Ainge 4. I’d give O’Connell a look, especially against a 1-10 team.

  33. I am totally confident in KC. But sanchez will be fine.

  34. Lets see what Ainge has, and see if he can be our back-up. We know KC is gone, so what point is starting him? He looked OK last night given the situation, but I to would rather have Mark in there. Scary isn’t it?

  35. I like Ainge over Smith, then O’Connell with KC as BEETLEBOMB!

  36. Sack – Correction: Two fumbles. He bobbled a snap.

Clemens probably played ahead of those guys because they’re even less ready.

Brad Smith does NOT have an NFL arm. Having him throw the ball is riskier than when Braylon threw that WR option.

  37. How about Kerry Rhodes? Didn’t he play qb? Maybe he will qb better then saftey

  38. That guy scares the crap out of me. I want Ainge.

  39. I bet Kerry’s arm is better than Brad Smith’s. Seriously.

Shame we need Mangold to play center!

  40. Are you F-ing joking????

I’ve said it since 2007 Clemens is just awful and the team should have made him pack his bags a long time ago!!!

He stunk when he started for Chad in 07, he couldn’t beat Chad out in the off season (especially when the team back him for the 08 season before Favre), then he couldn’t beat out Sanchez this summer!!!

I was at both pre-season home games as well at training camp and saw first hand after 5 minutes he stunk!!!

In Camp he completed only 2 passes out of 10 (with-in the first 15 minutes) to an open receiver! The ball wasn’t even close the scrub (standing 6 yards out) trying to catch the ball!!!!

They should have signed Jeff Garcia over the summer or never traded Ratliff!!!

I say let Ainge play the fist three quarters and then O’ Connell and Clemens split the 4th (in this order since Clemens will be gone next year)!!

  41. Would Ratty have been the answer though? Terrible in preseason and they haven’t even considered him for playing time despite trading for him – and have you seen the Browns QBs play this year? If he can’t crack the rotation there, we should just be glad the Jets cashed in on his “value” when they did.

  42. If last night showed us anything, its that all those Mark Sanchez hater need to SHUT UP. Regardless of his mistakes, when he is the game it is infinitely more exciting and he is our future. When Clemens came in the game, I felt like I was back in 2006 with that garbage team…it was a horrible feeling.

  43. Clemens seems like a good guy but he is a terrible QB. He has terrible pocket presence and has an average arm at best. The fact that the Jets are MUCH more comfortable with a rookie QB who turns the ball over a lot tells you all you need to know. If Sanchez can’t play start Ainge or O’Connell and run the ball a lot.

And to all you people who thought KC looked alright, you must have been watching a different game. He got sacked almost every time he stepped back, and the sacks were on him since the O-line gave him time. He fumbled TWICE once inside his own 10 and one ON A RUNNING PLAY. He showed he has no awareness when he threw the ball into the ground with no defender around him. If the game comes down to KC throwing the ball, the Jets will lose. Lets all just hope that Sanchez can play.

  44. Hell No!!!The guy’s a rock in the pocket,he can’t move around to find open WR’s,he can’t make plays with his feet,he looked like the clasic deer in the headlights last night.People can’t blame the O-line.We have a top 10 O-line,Plus a great running game, and to take 3 sacks in 5 dropbacks is awful!.I’d start Ainge,O’ connell, and Vinny Testaverde before i start Kellen.

  45. A-I-N-G-E. Ainge Ainge Ainge

  46. clemens is alot better the scanchez is right now why wouldnt u want him in over scanchez he going to do what scanchez was surpose to do be a game manger

  47. People with confidence in Clemens are truly mind-boggling. Could Clemens potentially play a decent game? Sure, anything is possible.

He’s shown absolutely nothing to make you think that, though, since what? College maybe? That game against the Ravens he Almost won? He looked completely inept last night.

Brad Smith? C’mon, get real. If Sanchez couldn’t go (which I think he will), the Jets best bet would be a free agent.

Next year if O’Connell isn’t the answer they really need to sign a legit backup.

  48. I actually think KC has the chance to one day be a serviceable backup who gets a shot at starting and does ok for himself. I’m talking 5-6 years from now. He has the big arm and the tools. He just doesn’t have the head, and I think, like Vinny, he could get better as he gets older and wiser. He won’t be as good as Vinny with the Jets, I’m just using him as an example relatively. That said — no, right now KC is not an NFL QB.

  49. jon – that game was actually against the Steelers, and I watched it this preseason again (it was on NFL Network) and he really wasn’t THAT great. He had one really good scramble, and one good toss to get them a late FG.

  50. Okay, somebody’s got to be the first to say this, so I’ll bite.

    What’s Vinny doing these days?

  51. bent that’s really not a bad idea!

  52. VINNY VERDE VICCI BABY!

  53. Give me Clemens any day. Sanchez has 17 picks and 10 fumbles. Clemens had to be rusty and nervous. He’ll be much better after getting snaps as the #1 qb, after a full week of practice. Play conservatively against Tampa Bay and win with defense. Clemens is a free agent, next year. Find out what you’ve got, or don’t have.

  54. BENT LMAFO

    VINNY!!!!

No I dont feel comfortable with Kellen Clemens, I was always under the SackDance influence that Clemens is not an NFL QB. The guy has sold me

  55. I feel fine with him starting against Tampa. The Bucs are awful and he hardly has to be Superman in that game with our run attack and defense. If it gets Sanchez significantly closer to 100% for the last three games of the season, I’m all for it.

  56. I read all of your posts, and had dozen differnt thoughts on the subject, but to make things simple, here is the bottom line.

Kellen is one of the worst QB’s we ever had, a QB Vernon Gholston thanx to Mangenious.

Start Ainge, since most likely he will stick around, let’s see what we got.

  57. I liked Clemens when we drafted him and believed he deserved a shot over the years, but I can’t believe how he has regressed. Not just last night, but in preseason also. He actually looked so much better as a rookie, it’s hard to believe this is the same guy.

Hopefully,Sanchez will be ready for the Bucs, but in the meantime my plan would be to split the reps evenly between Clemens and Ainge and start Clemens vs the Bucs. If he screws up in the 1st Quarter, pull him and go the rest of the way with Ainge. You can explain away splitting the reps as “just in case Clemens gets hurt Ainge needs to be ready too.”

Clemens is gone after this season and will not be on any NFL roster next year. Sorry, but he’s just not an NFL QB; it’s over.

  58. i trust my dead grandmother to throw the ball more than i trust kc,are you kidding me?this guy stinks with a capital S,im all for ainge or brad smith starting, hell even o’connor, but wateva they do,just dont pit clemens in there please,he is a disaster waiting to happen

  59. For all the looooooooong suffering Jet fans (40+ yrs): Clemens makes Richard Todd look like a pro-bowler. Yikes!

  60. is kerry rhodes gone after this season, and if yes,id say yay.

  61. As the sole member of the KC fan club, I believe you will all be surprised.

Not saying he will light it up, but with ten days of reps he will be fine doing what Sanchez did yesterday, handing off to TJ and avoiding turnovers.

I promise you he will not throw 5 INT’s.

He has struggled early in games in the past, but once he settles down he is a perfectly competant QB as long as Schotty does not ask him to do too much too early. Get him a few early simple completions and run the damn ball.

In fact, due to the ineptitude of the opponent they should not push Sanchez, let him rest up for ATL.

  62. joey, “is kerry rhodes gone after this season, and if yes,id say yay”

He’s gone. He’ll be used to get draft choice(s) which in turn, we’ll use to draft a Ryan-type aggressive safety or D-lineman. Maybe Hollywood can hook up with Matt Leinart in Arizona.

  63. Ainge over clemens any day he look terrible!!! I can’t stand him, everytime he drops back for a pass I have to catch my breath!!!!!!

  64. if its not sanchez u can be sure that neither clemens, oconell, or ainge will have the freedom to throw the ball against the bucs. maybe, maybe clemens will if he manages the game well and doesnt mess the offense up. if we all remember, clemens 2 years ago came out against the ravens team which i think was very decent at thetime, they were up like 21-3 at half. clemens lead the team back and the jets could have won had mccareins not dropped 2 balls for touchdowns on the final drive. and if you remember clemens played qb that year w/ kevin barlow as the first string running back. and if you remember clemens played qb that year with a god awful offensive line which was the cause of both chad’s season ending injury and kellens season ending injury. and if im not mistaken the jets had jericho cotchery as their main wr that year and it was his 2nd year and he couldnt make a big play bc the offensive line could never hold togethor for long enough.

last night we saw clemens scared to lose the game for his team, scared to ruin the jets season, and he played conservative… what the jets needed. after watching last night i cannot say that im confident in clemens, but i dont know how anyone can be. but based on how clemens handled himself and his team 2 years ago, with no other support besides himself on the offense and for that matter the horrid defense, i can say that if he reverts back to that he will gain the support and confidence of the fan base instantaneously. remember, mangini didnt let him loose until the 2nd half of his 2nd game… ironically the same game clemens led the talentless jets back to near victory against at the time the league’s best defensive team. last night we saw clemens as he was at the begining of his 10 game stretch 2 years ago. what i hope to see on sunday (if he starts) is the coaches confidence in him to run the offense. if he cant do it then they atleast can run the ball a variety of ways, if he cant do it then they can put ainge in, IF he cant do it its not the end of the world bc we’d be playing a tb team and would likely be in it even if jp losman was our qb.

right now i have minimal confidence in clemens from the spectacle he did last night, however i feel like that mindset could change rather quickly if the coaches trust him enough to do what he does best. having said that though, why would the coaches ever trust him after what he displayed last night? which forces me to believe that mark sanchez u will be playing in 2 knee braces against the bucaneers, like it… or not…

  65. That Ravens game was against a team that was the only ones to lose to the 1-15 dolphins and he actually only had 85 yards through 3 quarters before (surprisingly) they went into a soft zone. Also, a huge percentage of the yardage was YAC by Cotch. He did lead them back well that day, but it really wasn’t his best game, he had much better games later in the year. If you want to be confident about him, point to those games, not that one!

  66. all i want for christmas is a playoff berth period ended…
i don’t care how or who does it!

  67. WOJF

Im just not as comfortable saying he is a “perfectly competent” QB.

The guy might get his chance, but he is going to have to be MUCH MUCH better in terms of getting rid of the football. The knock on the guy that has been a recurring issue in training camp, pre-season games and last night is his lack of pocket awareness and ability to make his reads and get rid of the rock.

I hope he can improve like you said with a week of practice and a little game rust shaken off, but if the kid can go, the kid goes. No question, Clemens does nothing better than Sanchez

  68. I have no confidence in Clemens anymore. Mistakes and I, I at least feel with Sanchez there’s a chance to make a play. With KC, he just looks lost back there. I’m good on him.

  69. I just wanna say that WHY is it when KELLEN is put in they have absolutely NO TRUST in him at all! EVERYTIME they put him in the other team KNOWS that we are gonna RUN it. Dont get me wrong,I want Sanchez in there all the time but **** HAPPENS! All Im saying is the gameplan shouldnt TOTALLY CHANGE once Kellen is put in the game..

  70. If KC goes, he will be my guy. He wears green and white. With regards to Sanchez, in the words of Terrell Owens “thats my quarterback…sniff…thats my quarterback”

  71. as long as kerry rhodes is gone,id be real happy, and also schitty too,i was gonna say tannenbauma, but we know that aint gonna happen no time soon cuz johnson aint got no balls to fire him.

  72. One thing Clemens does better than Sanchez…cope with the cold. Remember the picture of them in the tin baths from the jetscamp site?

Of course, as the Jets are weighing up whether to give him a shot or risk the hobbled rookie it comes before a game in South Florida!

If this game were on the road in Chicago or something, then we’d have a sensible reason for favoring Kellen!

  73. Do I have confidence in Kellen Clemens?

    Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

As I said on a prvious thread, if Sanchez can’t go next game, start Ainge–or O’Connell, or even Brad Smith. But for christ sake keep Clemens off the field.

KC is a clipboard QB at best. He stunk last night, he stink in the preseason, he stunk in 2007. Okay, yes, he seems to be a nice guy, but right now every game counts– we can’t lose a single one and have hope of making it into the playoffs.

With Ainge, or O’Connell, or Brad S, at least we have more of a shot to win than with Kellen.

  74. The people wanting to fire Tanny have got to get a clue about what he has done here. Look at our FA’s compared to the Pats this year, It says alot about Tanny.
Ainge has got to be better than Clemens.Seriously!
I hope that Sanchez can GO…..

  75. i would not play Sanchez Tampa Bay stinks we could run and play good defense we should play ainge let him do like henne did to us in the first Miami game throw 15 times and one bomb to Clowney his favorite target.

  76. fix up sanchez and get him in there. there are no easy games in the nfl and seeing where we stand and what we have shown this year, we are in no position to take anyone lightly. all men aboard i say. make sanchez the hand off guy clemens would be, and have sanchez keep his arse out of trouble. be smart, play smart and let our defense win this.

  77. Clemens had the entire pre-season to win the job and show what he had to offer. If the pre-season meant anything — Ainge should be starting. At least he has an upside. Clemens has nothing to offer.

  78. can we address something else…like having woodhead or clowney start returning punts. sanchez will play. the pcl does nothing for stability of the knee – prevent hyperflexion which barely ever happens. even if he tears it completely he can be fine. just give him a cortisone injection before the game and hes golden, if it even bothers him in 9 days.

  79. Sanchez should be able to play and if he doesn’t against Tampa he’ll be fine for the Falcons game. Aside from that one big third down conversion Clemens looked awful and the Jets certainly can’t make the playoffs with him playing the Bengals and Colts. Tampa isn’t a good team but I’m sure they can figure out a way to stop the offense, which is basically stacking the box and stuffing the run. The Jets made the right decision starting Sanchez because now we fully realize that he gives them a much better chance to win than Clemens does.

  80. The fact that we are even having a discussion about KC right now is terrifying. At one time I thought he should be given a chance but those days are over. The guy just doesn’t seem to have it. Whatever happens with Sanchez over the next few days I hope Thomas Jones is getting a lot of rest right now. Sanchez is banged up even if he does wind up playing. Remember, we are playing Tampa Bay. The only way we lose this game is if we beat ourselves with mistakes and turnovers. Either KC or a less than full strength Sanchez should be kept on a very short leash to make sure that doesn’t happen.

  81. Kellen Clemens is awful. He was awful in 2007 and the book was pretty much written by the end of that season. Somehow he looks to have gotten even worse and I pray we never see him QB a game for us. How bad is it for a team to treat a 2nd round pick in his 4th year as if he was a guy they just picked up off the street.

  82. I dont want him to. but if he goes, we have to support him, just like eddie said.

finally a jet fan who thinks like me.

I dont think Ainge is any better, he has a decent preseason, but so did Ratliff last yr and Clemens 2 yrs ago. Plus he is our 4th QB, with a guy we picked up in week 2 as our 3rd. If our coaches are right about Sanchez being better then Clemens then they are right about Ainge too. No way around it.

I really really hope the kid is play, he is our QB plain and simple, but if Clemens plays, I’ll be rooting my ass off for him.

  83. And i ment the thinks like me in the whole, Lets support the team thing i’ve been preaching for the last 8 weeks.

  84. I say start Revis at QB

  85. Umm…can we get Chad Pennington back? Please.

  86. I’d rather have Glen Foley back there. Talk about being a spark off the bench.
Sadly Clemens will be cut next summer if not traded, (although whoever would bite would be foolish).
Getting back to Bent’s question yesterday: I vote for Vinny to come back as the QB coach next year. He was able to provide Chad with a role model on being a professional QB in today’s NFL: an invaluable teaching lession. We have no one to do that for Mark. Cavanaugh is obviously a nice man, but hasn’t been a QB in the league since the 80’s.

  87. I AGREE WITH ALL THE FANS! KC seems to be very uncomfortable and made too many mistakes. Now we all now why Mark is the starting QB! I think Ange or O’Connel will be a better option in the future, I think the Jets need a veteran QB on the roster to be a viable option is Mark is injured.
Go JETS! It was nice to beat the Bills

  88. he didnt get a chance!!!

  89. Clemens was really solid last night. He should be started over Sanchez for the rest of the season. He’s our only hope to make the playoffs.

…just kidding!!!!!!! but I actually do have a measure of confidence in him. I was NOT worried when he came in last night, and I would not be worried about him playing again, especially after he’s gotten some reps in with the first team this week.

  90. The sad fact is that if Mark isn’t ready to go, it’ll be KC behind center. No way they elevate our 3rd or 4th string QB with one week of practice.

Of course we’ll all support whomever we start at QB, but seeing Kellen back there is a nightmare scenario.

  91. Clemens played like a rookie. He tripped over his own feet, fumbled a snap, got sacked inside the ten and fumbled. He has not proven that he is even worth paying to hold a clipboard.

AINGE is terrible. He was splitting snaps at UT.

Get rid of both of them in the offseason and sign a veteran backup. Someone that can come in, hand the ball off (stay on his feet) maybe complete a few passes and tutor the Sanchise. Garcia would be perfect for this role. Great presence in the clubhouse, well respected by teammates and a guy who became successful by studying under Steve Young. Plus, he can win a few games if the Sanchise goes down.

The biggest problems with our backups is not their lack of ability, but rather their lack of experience. Sanchise has no one to learn from and no one to tutor him. We have all heard Chad’s names thrown around for this role, but is anyone really confident that he will be able to play? And, does anyone really want to start going into cardiac arrest every time he throws an out pattern that takes 9 seconds to get to the sidelines and almost gets pickedd?
