Secondary Getting Healthier?
While lots of attention is being paid to the injury of Mark Sanchez, there’s news about other players and their status against the Buccaneers this coming weekend.
Cornerback Dwight Lowery (ankle) and offensive lineman Robert Turner (knee) also didn’t practice. Ryan said he is “hopeful” that Strickland will play. He and Lowery have missed the past two games.
Having some extra bodies healthy in the secondary would be a help to the Jets, but against the Bucs, it would be less of a concern. The team’s leading WR in terms of receptions is Antionio Bryant, who has just 27 catchs (albeit for 476 yards at a 17.6 average). Better to rest up their secondary to make sure they’re fit for the likes of Atlanta, Indy, or Cinci.

Do they have Revis follow Bryant? Haha that would be funny.
Lowery and Strickland being out becomes more and more a concern especially with the up and down injuries to Lito.
Hopefully Strickland can get back this week and Lowery next week.
Stricklands injury history, very similar to Lito’s, makes his long term future with the Jets questionable. But when he plays the Jets pass defense is upgraded…. Drew Coleman has had a decent year, but Strickland is so much better
I think Lito Sheppard has been underrated and underappreciated by Jets fans on this site. He has struggled to stay on the field, but when hes been healthy, hes played very well for us.
I would rate our corners like this;
Revis
Sheppard
Strickland
Lowery
Coleman
Cole
The Jets can win without Lowery and Strickland this Sunday, but it would be nice to have everyone back to full health by the time we play Atlanta.
Whats the status on Matt Ryan?
TB is 2nd in the league in INTs, with 21. and they dont run the ball well either, in the bottom 1/3 of the league averaging just over 100 per game. this is a great opportunity to stop the run, hopefully play with a lead, and force TB to throw the ball.
Matty Ice looks to be out a few weeks. If Hotlanta loses this week they’re out of the playoff picture so they might hold him out just to keep him from further injury.
Last Sunday, Freeman just threw 5 INTs against Carolina. Let’s see what the Rook does against the leagues best pass defense.
We don’t need to rush anyone back.
Totally agree that Lito gets no repsect here….. The guy is a better player than lowery at this point…..and i like lowery
The problem is he is always injured. If he get nicked we are in trouble the next 2 weeks
I dont want to say I dont like Lowery, but I dont see what the fascination is with him by a lot of fans on this site. The guy is always giving up TD’s. The Jets defense has allowed only 9 passing TD’s all season, and I bet most of them came against Lowery.
JR — Matt Ryan looks like he’ll play this week: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=4723141
However, the article reads like they are forcing injured starters back into the game as a last push for the postseason, and if they lose to the Saints on Sunday, they are officially mathematically eliminated. What would that say for their game against us once they find that out?
The Falcons have a terrible pass defense, which makes it nearly impossible to beat the Saints.
Lito is underapprecaited by most fans…I am one who has been saying he is the type of corner we need to play opposit of revis and is a ball hawk! When he is healthy it makes our pass defense so much better, and he compliments revis…I really want him back next year if he can stay healthy the rest of this season and I am pretty sure he wants to stay is rex’s system…lowery is good and is getting better but at this point lito is the 2nd best cb on the jets roster
Agreed that Lito was underappreciated for a while, but fans seem to be coming around. All comes down to the injury factor, but let’s hope he can finish the season strong.
Good point on the Falcons/Saints game- could be as huge for Jets as any wildcard-picture game. Don’t really understand why fans seem to think that game is so “eminently winnable”- the Falcons have only lost to really good teams and the Panthers, and most of them were close. If they beat the Saints, you gotta think they’re gonna be raring to go w/ the Jets, Bills, & Bucs to finish up. If they lose, you have the emotional letdown, chance of Ryan sitting, etc. Huge difference.
All this talk of Lito being underappreciated is selective memory. In addition to having a bad injury history, he played terribly in preseason and then got injured early on this year. It isn’t until later in the season that he’s been on the field and really played well.
I think we should cut him and then resign him, but people were never underappreciating him. His value to the team was not that high earlier in the year.
