USA Football has given out their awards for their “All Fundamentals Team” and one Jet, Alan Faneca has made the list. The players are selected for their abilities in certain fundamental excellence in the game coupled with their community work, and Faneca was selected for his Combo/Zone Blocking abilities.
Alan Faneca is an All-Fundamentals Team Guard because of his adeptness at combo and zone blocks. Starting from a good three-point stance, he fires off the ball with a good base to turn the defender’s shoulders so the Center can take over the block, then works to the second level to block a LB.
Congrats to Alan on the award. Ironically, the six man selection panel consisted of a number of former players, and coaches, including one Herman Edwards.

Are you kidding me? Faneca having good fundamentals??? I wonder if these guys have even watched his famous matador play this year. You know, the one where he turns around to watch a DT cream Sanchez.
BTW, any group which includes Herman, the Preacher, Edwards needs to call up a replacement player pronto.

This is one weird set of awards. They’re choosing players that have been injured for half the season, that have lost their starting roles due to poor play, and even players that have played well recently but otherwise at a level much lower that previous Pro Bowl seasons. Odd.
Comes to mind: Polamalu, Osi, Finnegan – all guys that have been at the tops at their position, but not necessarily this year. So how do they have the best fundamentals?
