Gamethread: Jets @ Buccaneers 12.13.09

Who: New York Jets @ Tampa Bay Buccaneers
When: 1:00 P.M. EST
Where: Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL
Their Last Meeting: After Chad Pennington had once again injured his shoulder, Vinny Testaverde and Brooks Bollinger split some time as the Jets quarterbacks. This would be one of the four games the Jets would win in 2005 as Curtis Martin scored the Jets two touchdowns of the game while Matt Bryant kept the Bucs alive with four FG’s (as Tampa was without their star, Cadillac Williams) but it wouldn’t be enough as the Buccaneers would fall 14-12.

Links: TJB Chat | Intel Report | NFL Preview | TJB PreviewTJB on Twitter |Injury Report | (Post Scriptum: The password to chat is Sanchez09 The password is case sensitive and must be entered as shown above).

Already Bucs fans are calling for an upset with Sanchez staying behind in New York. Both of these teams have come a long way since 2005 but the Buccaneers just haven’t been able to generate much this season and facing a top ranked defense in the NFL, the Bucs or their fans are not in much of a position to brag.

Whether it would be Sanchez or Clemens starting, New York already knew they were going to run a lot against the Bucs defense and that still hasn’t changed but with a change to the QB position Clemens who looked very rusty last week will have to be accurate and alert when it is necessary to make the throws the Jets need to keep eating up the clock and moving the chains. With that gather round and get ready for some hard hitting action in Tampa. Leave us with your thoughts and comments through the afternoon.

Everyone chill out, KC is doing his job, he is what he is…

The Bucs cannot score a TD on the Jets D, we’re going to get some points here, wrap this baby up and get ready for Atlanta

Anyone who says Bart Scott is overrated, only uses stats to evaluate players and has probably never played football before.

The guy does all the dirty work and is the main reason TE’s and RBs dont run free like they did under Mangini. David Harris is also an all-universe player now that Bart is next to him.

It doesn’t really affect us, but I’d rather play a demoralized and eliminated Falcons team than one surging toward the postseason.

We always play good enough to lose. How the Bucs have outscored us in the second half is horrible. Clemens hasn’t started in a long time but, what is Schottenheimer’s excuse.

I dont get how people just think that the Bucs were just going to let the Jets come in here and destroy them. These guys are professionals. There are no gimme’s in the NFL.

The Jets are doing exactly what they are supposed to. You dont win a trophy for making it look pretty and there is no BCS

If the Broncos lose to Philly and the Jags lose one game do the Jets and Dolphins get the Wild Cards?

    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:15 pm #

Don’t forget Denver losing too. They can finish 9-7 if the Ravens win out. Cincy losing too doesn’t hurt, maybe they lose next two games to also offset Ravens… only helps.

  55. greg sec 130
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:16 pm #

Brabble, no, Denver has tiebreaker over us — they’d need to lose two more.

But that would be great is Miami, Jets were WCs…

  56. kd bart
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:18 pm #

They did what they had to do today. Play great defense, run the ball effectively and not put Clemens in a position where he has to do too much. Take it and hope Sanchez is ready for the Falcons.

  57. Revisisbeast
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:19 pm #

Do we have tiebraker over Baltimore?

  58. Scouse Jet
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:20 pm #

So right now there are 4 teams on 7-6 going for 1 wild card spot. We’re also 2 games out of first place in the division.

  59. AKA....Drew
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:20 pm #

Nice win…. Did anyone notice Revis gettin gon B Scott for the penalty? Revis is becoming the face of our franchise.

Also funny hearing how much Revis studies game film and might be the best D player in the league then……. moments later not only “not” hearing how much Rhodes studies anymore but Iron Eagle and Rich Gannon basically killing him for underachieving.

  60. Brabble
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:22 pm #

How do they have the tie break?

If the Jets win out they are 7-5 conference and the Broncos would be 7-5 if they lost to philly. Right? And then it goes to common opponents and I think they Jets would win that.

  61. NamVetJet
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:24 pm #

I thought Revis was getting on Scott for the penalty too. Play was over, you were getting possesion, why pull off someones helmet. Revis was right on if he told him.

    NE: @Buf – Jax – @Tex
    MIA: @Ten – Tex – Pit
    BAL: Chi – @Pit – @Oak
    JAX: Ind – @NE – @Cle

Can NE lose 2? Possible, but not likely.
    Mia could lose all 3
Bal could lose @Pit and maybe next week against the Bears
Jax could lose their next 2

If the ravens lose to the Bears next week, I think 9-7 might be enough to get in. But, we run the board, and I’m sure that we’re in.

  63. Scouse Jet
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:31 pm #

Looking at Denver’s schedule if they lose 1 more I think we win the tie break by having beaten Indy. So winning out would 99,9% certain get us in. 10-6 is a play off score, 9-7 I think will be too.

  64. Scouse Jet
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:35 pm #

If Jax lose next week, we want them to win against NE (apart from the obvious) because it’d mean the patriots would need to go to Houston and win or go home.

  65. Scouse Jet
    13. Dec, 2009 at 4:40 pm #

    Me again,

If the chargers beat the bengals next week they go to 9-5, even if they win at home to KC, we’d equal them at 10-6 by winning out and would also have the tie break over them. If everything fall in to place we could actually be the number 3 seed behind Indy and SD

  66. WW85
    13. Dec, 2009 at 5:07 pm #

Never thought about the Cinci angle.

There is no way Indi is resting anyone if they are undefeated when we play them. We will need to beat them at full strength & that’s the way it should be, anyway.

    Drew

I noticed Revis getting on Scott also.

And its the way it should be. Revis is the best player on the team hands down. No one can say anything to him and he can say anything bc he goes out every game, takes on every challenge, and gets the job done. Honestly, he is the best corner I have ever seen. He should be the face of the franchise

    It finally happened!!!
Kellen proved to all those who are drinking the Clemens “Cool-Aid” that he sucks!!! The man himself has spoken! This same comment can be used for Shotty too!! Who calls that many pass plays against a team that can not block the run!! Is Shotty truly that stupid??

Also Kerry Rhodes stinks as well!! This dope did nothing all game and as the broadcaster stated…he was in the right place at the right time with that interception!!

Got to give a big “Wha Hoo”! to the big play makers in todays game…Jones, Revis, Harris, Pace, Mangold, both Smiths, Woodhead, and the rest of the team!!

  70. jose garcia
    13. Dec, 2009 at 7:52 pm #

let win the next 3 games. We have the team. We have the running game. Beating the Colts would mean that we would have peeked at the right time in the season. We won today 26-3 by running the game. We need to control the clock. We should not throw the ball more than 20 times. We ran one bad reverse. But you still have to run it to keep the defense honest. If you look at our stats there is no reason we cannot win the next 3 games. We only give up 170 yrds per game total. And yet we are only 7-6. But if we continue to run the ball we will be in the playoffs!!!

“…Kerry Rhodes stinks as well!! This dope did nothing all game and as the broadcaster stated…he was in the right place at the right time with that interception!!”

Nothing worse than a player being in the right place and at the right time.

  73. Jets-Fan-4-Life
    13. Dec, 2009 at 9:56 pm #

    Bent,
Kerry has been talking up a big game the last few weeks especially this week between fighting with his coach, and how it might be better to play for someone else at his current caliber (which is average) who would appreciate him more. So from what I saw today he was basically invisible, and I could swear I so Gholston’s jersey on TV more then Rhodes.

As for the interception… Well the broadcaster didn’t sound to excited (and neither did I) because the pass was over thrown to the target receiver and Kerry was just standing 10 yards back where the ball wound up.

Yeah its nice he was there to jump up and catch the ball but where was the effort all game?

Just because he was lucky to catch this ball doesn’t mean he should be on the sidelines acting as if he is going to the Pro-Ball this year, or as if he earned his contract.

You know I had a professor in college that loved seeing end results to assignments but was a bigger fan of…”Show me the work” that provided the results. I believe it this method should apply to the players too (see Jones and Revis for example). Both were awesome today and after watching the game you knew why. With Kerry you never see it, and I believe he has been over hyped for two seasons.

The way I see it I’m sure Rex will be looking to replace him with someone that is more suited to Rex’s Defense. So unless Rex acquires the character player he would prefer to play Free Safety in the off season then Rhodes will be back next year.

  74. Bent
    13. Dec, 2009 at 10:16 pm #

Kerry was employed almost exclusively in coverage, where it is difficult to find fault with anything he did. As for there being a lack of effort, I saw him dive on a few piles, which he is sometimes criticized for not doing, so maybe the effort was there. When the front seven plays so well, there aren’t too many plays to be made when you line up deep.

The guy isn’t paid just to be solid in coverage, but at least he was mistake free and the defense as a whole played great.
